Here it is. 01:33 What weighs more, 01:34 a pound of feathers or a pound of bricks? 01:38 Can't get it down. 01:40 Oh, hey. 01:41 Do we got a message? 01:42 Oh, yeah, a message! 01:44 We got a message from headquarters. 01:45 We gotta see this. 01:46 Right here. 01:48 I don't mean to be ungrateful, 01:49 but there is a girl at school that just got a brand new phone 01:52 that thing is amazing. 01:54 My parents say I should be happy 01:55 with the one I have, 01:57 but I would really like a new one. 01:59 What do I do? 02:01 Yeah, that's a good question. 02:03 I'm sure we can think of a lot things we wish we had. 02:05 Definitely. 02:06 Yeah, I need a new magnet-shrooms like bad. 02:09 You know what? 02:10 If we think about it 02:12 we can probably all think of a lot of stuff 02:13 that we'd really like to have. 02:16 Yeah. 02:17 What should we do? 02:19 Well, how about we start writing this down 02:21 in our journal first? 02:22 Yeah, let's go. 02:24 All right, that's a good idea. 02:26 How much stuff do I need? 02:29 It's true. 02:30 Yeah. 02:32 Where do we go from here? 02:33 You know what? I know exactly where to go. 02:34 There is an artifact we can look at. 02:36 What number? 02:37 It is artifact 21D, I believe. 02:39 Okay. Cool. 02:41 21D. Yeah. 02:42 I love bringing around all my little trinkets, 02:43 it's a little treasures. 02:45 Yeah. 02:46 You never know when you're gonna need it. 02:48 Right. Yes, I see it. 02:49 Wait, is that a giraffe? 02:51 Where did you get this from? 02:53 A giraffe, isn't that cool? 02:54 I actually bought this giraffe in a country called Botswana. 02:58 Oh, I never heard of that before. 02:59 Where's that? Botswana, yeah. 03:01 Sam, do you know where Botswana is? 03:02 Can you point it to us on the map? 03:03 Yes, I do. 03:05 I know where Botswana is, it's about right here I think. 03:08 That's it. That's Botswana. 03:09 There it is. Yeah. 03:11 There's probably a lot we can probably learn 03:12 from Botswana. 03:14 So may be, Tim, you can find a location brief. 03:15 Okay. That will be a good idea. 03:16 That we can learn little more. Yes. 03:18 Well, check it out there. Let's see. 03:20 We need to see this. 03:22 Right here. 03:23 Oh, there it is. 03:25 Location brief Botswana. 03:27 Botswana is a landlocked country 03:30 in Southern Africa. 03:32 It is a very flat and dry country 03:35 with about 70% of the country 03:38 being part of the Kalahari Desert. 03:42 Nevertheless there are amazing natural wonders 03:46 to be seen here. 03:47 Since about 38% of the country 03:50 is dedicated to national parks and wildlife reserves. 03:56 One of its most famous parks is Chobe National Park. 04:01 Botswana has the largest concentration 04:04 of African elephants in the whole world 04:08 with over 50,000 elephants within its borders. 04:13 Between the dry and rainy season, 04:15 many of them migrate over 150 miles 04:20 from one part of the country to another. 04:24 Since preservation of these lands is a big deal, 04:28 it also means that there are immense areas 04:31 of the country, where little or no people live. 04:34 Areas where animals and nature can thrive freely. 04:39 Botswana is also a home 04:42 to one of the largest salt pan areas in the world, 04:46 where water has evaporated leaving huge flat areas 04:50 of salt and the desert. 04:53 The Kalahari Desert is home 04:56 to many different kinds of animals, 04:59 ranging from meerkats to flamingos to leopards. 05:04 One of the most unique kinds of trees 05:07 can be found in Botswana, the baobab tree. 05:12 It's famous for having a very wide trunk 05:15 and small upper branches. 05:18 The huge trunks can hold thousands of liters of water 05:23 which helps them survive droughts. 05:26 Botswana is an amazing country 05:29 with incredible natural wonders. 05:33 This concludes this location brief. 05:40 That's pretty cool. Yeah. 05:41 Botswana really is a, really cool country. 05:43 Oh, that's awesome. 05:45 And the reason we went to Botswana 05:46 is because my wife and I wanted to go on safari. 05:48 Oh, cool. 05:49 Yeah, but of course our goal was 05:51 to take pictures of the animals. 05:52 Oh. 05:53 Now the reason we have this, it's kinda cool 05:55 because first of all we arrived in South Africa. 05:59 And we wanted to get around by renting a car. 06:01 Nice. 06:02 So we rented a car, but you know what happened? 06:04 What? What happened? 06:05 We were kind of disappointed, 06:07 'cause the car that they gave us, 06:08 it didn't have air conditioning. 06:10 Oh. 06:11 It's really hot out there. 06:13 Yeah. Ah, that was terrible. 06:14 We were just frustrated and upset, we're like, 06:15 they are giving us a car 06:17 to drive around in Africa for two weeks 06:18 and there's no air conditioning, so. 06:20 Oh, that's terrible. That's terrible. 06:21 But they said that's the only car we have, 06:22 so they said take it or leave it, 06:24 so we wanted to see Africa, 06:25 so we took our car. 06:26 You know, we were a little bit of grumpy. 06:28 Yeah. But we went on our way. 06:30 And we started driving and we drove into Botswana 06:32 to the capital Gaborone. 06:34 Gaborone? 06:36 Where is that at? That's a weird name. 06:37 That's the name of the capital. 06:38 Okay. Oh. 06:40 Now from there we had to drive north, 06:41 it was far away 12-15 hours through this huge desert 06:45 to try to get... 06:47 A desert? 06:48 A desert, but that was a cool desert 06:49 'cause they had set this part 06:51 of the country aside as a reserve. 06:52 Oh, that's nice. 06:53 And a reserve is a part of the country 06:55 that they say no construction, no roads, no nothing 06:58 and the animals can just roam around. 07:00 That's nice. 07:01 In fact we can get how God made it from the beginning. 07:03 Did you take pictures? 07:04 So that's where we were heading 07:05 because we wanted to see the animals 07:07 in their own environment. 07:08 And I had my camera gear and we had all our stuff and, 07:12 of course, we had our car with no air conditioning. 07:15 But the story that I wanna tell you about 07:17 why this giraffe reminds me of that? 07:19 We were driving down the super long stretch of desert 07:23 and we hadn't seen anybody for like an hour or two. 07:27 There was no towns, no traffic, no other cars, nothing. 07:30 No bathrooms? Nothing. 07:31 No bathrooms, not even gas stations, nothing. 07:33 Oh. 07:35 It was these long stretches of highway. 07:36 Wow! 07:38 So we were just driving along, 07:39 driving along and all of a sudden 07:41 I saw something up ahead. 07:42 What was it? A giraffe? 07:44 No, it wasn't a giraffe. 07:46 There was a man sitting on the side of the road. 07:48 Really? 07:49 Yeah, we haven't seen anybody for a long time 07:51 and I didn't even see any villages, 07:53 and when I saw him, I'm like, 07:54 where did this guy come from? 07:56 When we started driving towards him and getting closer, 07:59 an interesting thing happened. 08:00 What? What happened? 08:02 The man all of a sudden, as we were approaching 08:04 he stood up. 08:05 He did. 08:07 He picked something up from the floor 08:09 and he started walking towards the edge of the road, 08:13 and I was kinda curious 08:14 'cause, you know, I hadn't seen anybody in so long. 08:16 And as he approached to the edge of the road, 08:18 he took this object that he had and he lifted it over his head. 08:23 What was the object? 08:24 It was a watermelon. 08:27 What's the point of a watermelon? 08:28 A watermelon? He had a watermelon. 08:31 You know, what he was doing? 08:32 No. What? 08:34 He was selling his only watermelon. 08:36 For what reason? 08:38 He wanted to make some money. 08:39 Oh. 08:40 Well, that's a good idea. 08:42 He had walked all the way from his village, 08:43 which was who knows where and his only job 08:45 that day was to go stand by the highway. 08:47 And sell one watermelon. 08:49 And to sell one watermelon, 08:51 to make a little bit of money for his family. 08:52 Yeah. 08:53 Well, that's amazing. That's nice. 08:55 But you know what happened? What? 08:56 I was in such a hurry to get where I was going. 08:59 I just drove right by. 09:00 Oh. Okay. 09:02 And I felt kinda bad 09:03 'cause this guy was just trying sell 09:05 his one watermelon. 09:07 He didn't look like he was mad or anything he was, 09:09 had a big smile on his face. 09:11 But you know what he reminded me of? 09:12 What? What? 09:14 Reminded me of how grumpy I was and my wife 09:16 'cause we didn't get a car with air conditioning. 09:18 Yeah. 09:20 Ah, we wanted our car with air conditioning 09:21 and here was this nice man content with the world 09:25 just trying to sell his one watermelon. 09:27 One watermelon, yeah. Yeah. 09:28 Makes you think about things. 09:29 It does. Yeah, it really does. 09:31 And the Bible reminds us too that we need to be content 09:33 and be happy with the things that we have been given. 09:34 Yeah. 09:36 I think there's probably a good verse 09:37 that we could find... 09:38 I bet there is. 09:40 To help us to remember and understand this. 09:41 I can find it. 09:43 All right, I think I know the good one, it's Hebrews. 09:45 Look in Hebrews 13:5. 09:49 Okay, Hebrews is back here. 09:51 That verse I think will just hit the nail on the head. 09:54 It's right here. All right. 09:56 Read it for us, Sam. Okay. 09:57 "Let your conduct be without... 10:00 Covetousness. 10:01 "Covetousness," thank you. 10:03 Be content with such things as you have, 10:06 for He himself has said, 10:07 I will never leave you nor forsake you." 10:11 That's a good verse. God made it pretty clear. 10:12 He did. It was pretty clear. 10:13 He wants us to be content with the things that we have. 10:17 I gotta write this down, right? Yeah. 10:18 Good idea. That's a good idea. 10:20 Definitely. That was what, Hebrews? 10:21 Hebrews 13:5. 10:24 Hebrews 13:5. 10:28 Can we see some of your photos? Yeah, sure. 10:30 Oh, great. You know what? 10:32 I think there is a file, Tim, is that right, 10:33 on Botswana road? 10:34 Come on, let's go check them out. 10:36 Let's check it out, safari pictures. 10:37 See, did you get them? 10:39 Right here. Yup. 10:40 That's such a good picture. Oh, yeah. 10:42 It's really cool. 10:43 The sand. 10:44 And that one... 10:46 That one's even better. Definitely. Yeah. 10:47 Oh, it's cool. 10:49 How about that one? Yeah. 10:50 You know, we live in interesting times. 10:52 It seems like almost every day something really cool 10:54 is being invented. 10:55 Of course whenever we see something new, 10:58 our nature is to want to have that thing. 11:02 When I was little 11:03 the first video game ever was invented, 11:06 it was called pong. 11:07 Then a few years later they invented the Atari 2600, 11:12 these were amazing inventions. 11:14 Boy, did I want one? 11:17 I asked my parents, 11:18 but when we investigated the price 11:20 that was just no way we could ever afford 11:23 to get one of those. 11:25 It was hard accepting that I couldn't get one 11:27 and today it's probably even harder for you guys. 11:31 Yeah. 11:32 I know 'cause you guys 11:33 are constantly being shown new things, 11:35 and new technology, 11:37 and new apps, and new devices. 11:40 You look around and you notice 11:41 that some of your friends have the newest whatever 11:45 and you wanna get one of those, too. 11:47 Plus advertisements make it so hard 11:50 not to want one. 11:51 So sometimes we find ourselves feeling 11:54 like we just can't be happy 11:56 because there's something we want but we can't have. 11:59 Yeah. Oh, yeah. 12:00 We must be careful, 12:02 because when you are not content, 12:04 that leads to coveting. 12:06 That word was in our treasure text today. 12:08 Right. 12:10 There's even one of those in the Ten Commandments 12:11 that warns people about not coveting 12:14 or wanting what other people have. 12:17 That's because when you want something so badly 12:20 that intense want can lead people 12:23 to do bad things and hurtful things. 12:25 Yeah, that's true. 12:27 And, of course, 12:28 that will lead us away from God. 12:30 I hope that you'll decide today 12:32 to be content with what you have. 12:35 Don't spend the bunch of time and energy 12:37 wanting what others have 12:39 because that will steal your joy 12:41 and separate you from God. 12:43 It says it right there in today's Bible treasure. 12:47 Hey! 12:48 Why don't we end with the prayer? 12:49 Great idea. That's a good idea. 12:51 Hey, let's bring the crew in. 12:52 Oh, yeah, come in guys. Come on guys. 12:54 Hey, crew, come on in. 12:55 Let's finish with the prayer. 12:56 Would somebody like to offer prayer for us? 12:58 Me. Awesome, Tim. 12:59 Why don't we bow our heads? 13:02 Dear Jesus, thank You for making us thankful 13:06 for the stuff we have and makes up other people 13:09 to be thankful for what they have. 13:10 Amen. Amen. 13:13 Well, how many of you guys are interested 13:14 in finding out the answer to our brainteaser? 13:17 I. Definitely me. 13:19 All right, let's see, 13:20 I don't know if you guys remember 13:22 the brainteaser that I read, 13:23 but let me read it to you again. 13:24 Okay. Just in case. 13:26 Let's see if I can find it. All right. 13:28 What weighs more, 13:29 a pound of feathers or a pound of bricks? 13:33 A pound of bricks. 13:35 Yeah, that's what I was thinking. 13:36 Definitely. 13:38 Ah, I think they are the same. 13:39 Am I right? He got it. 13:41 That's true, they are both a pound. 13:42 A pound, they are both a pound. 13:43 Oh, they are both a pound, it make sense. 13:45 Good one, I like it. 13:46 I get it now, 13:47 I'm so glad you joined us today for Bible Treasures. 13:49 Don't forget to search for treasure every day. 13:53 We'll see you next time. 13:55 Come on, guys, let's head out to the dig site. 13:56 Cool, I'm ready. Let's go find some nice stuff. 13:57 Yeah, we gonna find some cool stuff. 13:59 I can't wait to see that. |
