Yeah 01:29 All right, well, I got a cool brain teaser here for you guys. 01:31 What is it? That's a good idea. 01:32 Let's see if you guys can get it. 01:33 Pay very close attention. Okay. 01:35 This could be a little sneaky. 01:37 What is it? All right. 01:38 My seas have no water, my mountains have no rock, 01:43 and my land has no grass. 01:45 What am I? 01:47 That's a hard one. 01:48 That's super hard, I know. 01:50 Yeah, you guys can think about it, 01:51 see if you can get it. 01:53 Oh, did we get a notification? 01:54 Oh, cool. Yeah. 01:56 Could be a new message from headquarters. 02:00 One of my best friends 02:02 that I've known since we were kids, 02:04 he's been changing a lot. 02:06 He's been bragging, always has to be first voice, 02:09 always has to win. 02:10 And it's been getting really frustrating. 02:13 So I don't know what should I do? 02:17 That's a tough question. 02:18 Yeah, I feel that. 02:20 He seems so sad. 02:22 Well, that's called being prideful. 02:24 Sometimes people change, 02:26 and sometimes it's not for the better. 02:28 Yeah, so how do we respond? 02:30 Well, you know, first things first, 02:32 let's get this question in our journal. 02:33 Good idea. That's a good idea. 02:34 It's a really good question. 02:38 A problem with pride. 02:43 Good question. Yeah. 02:45 You know what though, I think I have an idea. 02:47 What? But we need an artifact. 02:49 Oh, yeah. Nori, can you get one for us? 02:50 Yeah, what? That one? I think it's 17D. 02:52 17D? Yeah. 02:54 I think that will help us. 02:55 I love how we bring our little props along 02:56 and our little treasures along 02:58 and they help us teach these lessons. 02:59 Sound good. Yeah. 03:01 Awesome. Here it is. 03:02 This is a building. 03:04 It's called the Burj Khalifa. 03:06 And it's located in a city called Dubai, 03:08 in a country called the United Arab Emirates. 03:11 Oh! 03:12 Isn't it the tallest building in the world? 03:14 It is the tallest building in the world. 03:15 Yeah. 03:16 Hey, Sam, can you show us on the map where Dubai is? 03:18 Sure. Yeah, I want to know. 03:19 It's right here. 03:21 There it is. Yep. That's it. 03:22 It's a neat modern city. And you know what? 03:24 It might be a good idea for us to see a location brief. 03:27 I got one. Tim, you got one? 03:29 Awesome. Let's check it out. 03:30 It's a great idea. 03:32 Right there. 03:33 I see it. There it is. 03:35 Yeah. 03:36 Location brief, Dubai. 03:41 The United Arab Emirates 03:43 is a country in the Persian Gulf 03:46 bordering the countries of Saudi Arabia and Oman. 03:51 As the name says, 03:53 it's made up of a group of seven emirates 03:57 or kingdoms that have come together 04:00 to form one country. 04:03 There are hundreds of miles of shoreline 04:06 with the Persian Gulf. 04:08 But a large part of the land is vast rolling sand dunes 04:13 that stretch for hundreds of miles. 04:16 During the winter, the climate is warm 04:20 in the United Arab Emirates. 04:22 But in the summer, it can become blistering hot, 04:26 with normal daily temperatures 04:28 climbing up to 113 degrees Fahrenheit. 04:33 The capital of the United Arab Emirates 04:36 is Abu Dhabi. 04:38 It's the center of politics and industry. 04:42 But the largest and most modern city is Dubai. 04:48 And Dubai is also a major center 04:50 for business and tourism. 04:53 Dubai has attracted a lot of attention recently 04:57 due to its immense construction projects, 05:01 including the world's tallest manmade structure, 05:05 the Burj Khalifa with 163 floors 05:11 and 57 elevators. 05:14 An example of some of the 05:16 unique construction achievements 05:18 include a huge indoor snow ski area. 05:23 You can also find 05:24 some of the largest and most modern hotels, 05:27 water parks, and sports venues. 05:31 Another major achievement 05:33 is the construction of huge new areas of land 05:36 that have been built up in the Persian Gulf, 05:39 such as the Palm Jumeirah and The World Islands 05:44 allowing for new buildings and cities to be built 05:48 where before there was just water. 05:52 This concludes this location brief. 05:56 Wow! Dubai is a beautiful city. 05:58 It is. It really is beautiful. 05:59 Really cool, very modern. 06:01 They've built most of that city 06:02 just in the last couple decades. 06:03 Wow! Really? 06:05 And this building is kind of like the centerpiece now 06:07 because this is the tallest building in the world. 06:10 Wow! What is it called? 06:11 It's called the Burj Khalifa, 06:13 which means the Tower of Khalifa, 06:14 which is the name of one of the president's there. 06:16 Really? That's a good name. 06:18 And I'm not sure how long it took to build it. 06:20 And it's just an amazing building. 06:22 Now the cool thing about this for us and for our family is 06:25 my younger son was fascinated when this was built. 06:28 He thought, "Wow, tallest building in the world." 06:31 And it really is tall because if you've ever been 06:32 to New York City, 06:34 just think of the Empire State Building, 06:36 it's about half as tall. 06:37 Oh! Wow! That is so tall. 06:39 It's amazing. 06:40 Yeah, it's cool. It's amazing. 06:43 Now this last summer, we got to travel 06:45 to the United Arab Emirates. 06:47 And we all got off the airplane. 06:49 And when we left the airport, 06:51 this thing was so tall, we can see it from the airport. 06:54 It's about 160 something floors. 06:56 Really? Oh, my goodness. 06:57 Yeah. So we were so excited. 06:59 We could see it in the distance. 07:00 And so the next day, after we had checked in, 07:02 we took a car, and we went over to the base. 07:05 And that's where we bought our tickets. 07:06 So the next day, 07:08 we can go up to the observatory. 07:10 Really? Yeah. 07:11 What floor up is that? How many floors? 07:13 I think it was on the 124th floor, 07:14 so something around here. 07:16 Twenty fourth? It's incredible. 07:17 So we got our tickets. 07:19 And the next day, we showed up on time. 07:21 And we took the elevator up, 07:22 and it was like this super crazy high speed elevator 07:25 that took us all the way up. 07:26 I would have loved to be on that. 07:27 It was like less than a minute. 07:29 It was amazing. 07:30 So we went all the way to the observatory. 07:32 And we got out, and it was cool because we can see... 07:34 It seemed like we can see for miles around. 07:36 I bet. Wow. 07:37 Now the interesting thing is 07:39 when you walk up around in the observatory, 07:41 there's all sorts of cool displays 07:43 that talk about all the facts 07:45 and pictures of how they built it 07:47 and all the materials they used. 07:48 Oh! 07:49 But then of course, they would be cool. 07:51 It's really cool. 07:52 There's just one display though that was kind of interesting, 07:54 it caught my eye... 07:55 Because the whole thing was all about the records 07:58 that were broken by this building. 08:00 Really? How many records? 08:02 It's the biggest, it's the tallest, 08:03 it's the everything. 08:04 They built it the fastest, the fastest elevator, 08:06 and all this stuff. 08:07 Oh, wow! 08:08 You know what, I got to think of these people here 08:10 in the United Arab Emirates 08:11 are really proud of their building. 08:13 And they were just telling everybody, 08:14 "Look at our awesome building. 08:15 Look how great it is. 08:17 Look at this awesome thing we built." 08:18 Yeah. 08:19 But the interesting thing about that 08:21 is that this story reminded me of another tall building 08:24 that the Bible talks about. 08:26 What tall building? Which one? 08:27 Is it The Tower of Babel? 08:29 That's the one. The Tower of Babel. 08:30 Oh, I didn't really think of that. 08:31 Some people started building this building, 08:33 and they thought it was going to be the best. 08:35 And you know what they actually said, 08:36 "Let us make a name for ourselves 08:40 by building this cool building." 08:42 And it kind of reminded me of this 08:44 'cause they were really proud of their building 08:46 just like the people in the Tower of Babel 08:48 were proud of their building. 08:49 But if you remember the Bible story, 08:51 that story didn't end very well... 08:52 Oh, it did. 08:54 'Cause pride can destroy people. 08:55 Really. 08:57 And there's actually a Bible verse 08:58 that can help us understand this. 08:59 You want me to look it up for you? 09:01 Could you please, Sam? Sure. What is it? 09:02 I've got a perfect one for you. 09:03 It's Proverbs 29:23. 09:08 Proverbs 29:23. 09:09 Yeah, Proverbs 29:23. 09:11 What does it say? 09:12 I think I found it. 09:15 Okay, here it is. 09:16 That is it. 09:19 "A man's pride will bring him low, 09:21 but the humble in spirit will retain honor." 09:25 What does that mean? 09:26 It's interesting 09:27 because there's two parts to this verse. 09:29 It says that the people that have pride, low, 09:33 and the people that are humble, honorable. 09:36 Oh, yeah. That makes sense. 09:38 That's a good verse, isn't it? Yeah, great. 09:39 We got to write this down here so then we can remember this. 09:41 Yeah. Good idea. 09:43 So that really wasn't a good idea 09:45 to make their city seem so big. 09:46 Yeah. Yeah. 09:48 Proverbs 29:23. 09:50 Because pride could bring it all the way down. 09:52 Yeah. 09:54 Do you have any pictures about that? 09:56 Yeah, actually, you know what? 09:57 I did bring some pictures back, 09:58 and I think they're on the file. 10:00 Oh, yeah, I think I saw a picture. 10:01 Yeah. Check into the file. I have to see that. 10:02 Maybe it's called Dubai. 10:04 Oh, look. 10:05 I see it. 10:06 I see that. Wow! 10:08 That's such a cool picture. 10:10 That's awesome. Look at it. 10:11 I love that one too. Oh, yeah. 10:13 You know, in Genesis, the Bible says 10:15 that the folks building the Tower of Babel, 10:17 they wanted to make a name for themselves. 10:20 And it's the same as saying they wanted to be famous. 10:23 Pride is a dangerous thing. 10:26 It's interesting that oftentimes 10:27 people don't even realize 10:29 that they're just going on and on 10:30 bragging about themselves 10:32 without noticing that it's making them 10:34 kind of look foolish. 10:35 Yeah. 10:37 Just as our treasure text says today. 10:39 I don't think anyone wants to look foolish, 10:41 so it would seem 10:43 like this is a pretty good and amazing advice 10:46 when the Bible helps us to be honorable instead. 10:49 Yeah. 10:50 Here's a fun way to help us remember 10:52 how to best not be foolish with pride 10:55 and instead be honorable. 10:57 I want to draw something for you. 10:59 Really? 11:00 I'm going to draw a person. 11:02 Now here's the head, and here's the eyes. 11:07 Oh! 11:09 Pride makes us want to look at ourselves. 11:11 Oh, that's true. 11:12 Instead, let's look at God first and then others. 11:15 Yeah. 11:17 And when we look at others, 11:18 it's not to point out their mistakes. 11:20 Now here's the mouth. 11:24 Pride makes us brag about ourselves constantly. 11:27 Oh, yeah. 11:28 Let's instead use our words 11:30 to help and build others up. 11:33 Yeah. Yeah. 11:34 Here's our ears. 11:36 Oh! 11:38 A proud person doesn't like to hear anyone correct him 11:41 or tell him he might be wrong about something. 11:43 That's true. 11:45 We need to realize that 11:46 sometimes we make mistakes or hurt others. 11:49 So we need to listen and apologize when necessary. 11:52 That's totally true. 11:54 Now here's the hands. 11:55 Oh! 11:59 Pride causes people to get into fights. 12:02 The reason he's fighting 12:03 is because he never gets what he wants 12:06 or he hates being corrected. 12:08 Instead, let's use our hands 12:10 to do good things for others instead. 12:12 Yeah. That's good. 12:14 And here's the feet. 12:16 Pride makes us stomp our feet and lose our temper 12:19 because everyone has to do things his way. 12:22 Let's instead use our feet to go and serve others needs, 12:26 even without being asked. 12:29 I hope you will decide today 12:31 to take God's amazing advice and resist pride. 12:34 Instead, let's ask God 12:36 to help us be a person of honor, 12:39 just like it says in today's Bible Treasure. 12:42 Hey, you know what? 12:44 We should pray. Good idea. 12:45 Let's bring our crew in. We got to bring our crew in. 12:46 Hey, guys, come on in. 12:48 Come on in. Come on back in. 12:50 Would one of you like to offer prayer for us? 12:53 Yes, I would. Awesome, Sam. 12:55 Let's all bow our heads and Sam will pray. 12:59 Dear, Jesus, help us to be a better person like it says 13:03 in our Bible text today. 13:04 Help us not to be filled with pride, 13:06 and help us to always know You are the one 13:09 who's given us everything that we have, 13:11 so we should not be prideful. 13:13 In Your Son Jesus' name, I do pray, amen. 13:15 Amen. All right. 13:17 Hey, do you guy want to see the answer 13:19 for today's brain teaser? 13:20 Yes! 13:22 I have a feeling you guys have been scratching your head 13:24 trying to figure out the answer to this one. 13:26 Definitely. All right, here we go. 13:27 What is it? 13:28 My seas have no water, my mountains have no rock, 13:33 and my land has no grass. 13:35 What am I? 13:39 I don't know. 13:40 That's a tough one, huh? 13:42 Is it a map? 13:44 It is a map. 13:45 Good job, Sam, a map. 13:47 I get it. I definitely get it. 13:49 I'm so glad you joined us today for Bible Treasures. 13:52 Don't forget to search for treasure every day. 13:57 See you next time. Come on, guys. 13:59 Let's go. Yeah. 14:00 We learned something today, guys. 14:02 We're gonna find some cool stuff 14:03 and then we just gonna ahead. 14:04 Let's see if we can find something. |
