00:02 It's time to go on a journey, a search for treasure.
00:08 This is no ordinary treasure though. 00:11 This priceless discovery contains God's Word, 00:16 including secrets from the past and future 00:20 that will change your life. 00:23 Welcome to Bible Treasures. 00:32 Hey, Elizabeth. Hi, Nori. 00:34 How was your ride? It was great. 00:36 I found so many fossils. 00:37 I wish I could have gone. Oh, me too. 00:39 Hey, guys. Hey, Sam. 00:40 Hey, Sam, what's wrong? 00:41 I couldn't remember how to throw a boomerang. 00:44 A boomerang? 00:46 But eventually it came back to me. 00:52 Hey, everybody, how's it going? 00:53 Hey! Why don't you come on in, guys. 00:55 Man. 00:56 I'm so excited to see you guys today, 00:58 another day on the dig is always a good day. 00:59 Yes. My name is Rich Aguilera. 01:01 And welcome to Bible Treasures. 01:03 We have an awesome team assembled as always, 01:06 let them introduce themselves. 01:08 Hi, I'm Elizabeth. 01:09 And I'm your computer ops girl. Awesome. 01:12 And I'm Sam, your expert when it comes 01:14 to historical documents. 01:16 And I'm Nori, and I love digging 01:18 into our treasure chest for more artifacts. 01:19 Cool. 01:21 Well, you know what, before we get started, 01:22 why don't we sharpen and stretch out 01:24 our brains a little bit 01:25 with a brain teaser? 01:26 Oh, yay! Yes. 01:28 I love testing you guys to see 01:29 if you guys can think of these things. 01:31 All right, I got a really good one for you guys. 01:33 Here we go. 01:34 If an electric train is going west at 90 miles per hour, 01:38 and there is a strong easterly wind, 01:41 which way does the smoke from the train drift? 01:45 That's a really hard one. 01:48 I wonder. 01:50 Oh, hey, I think we got a message from headquarters. 01:51 Oh, let's go check it out. Oh, so exciting. 01:55 See, if we got a new assignment. 01:58 At church last week, the pastor said, 02:01 we need to depend on God. 02:03 Does that mean I don't have to do anything 02:06 and God will take care of everything? 02:08 Wow, that's an interesting question. 02:10 I'm trying to figure out 02:12 if he's being a little sarcastic. 02:14 Yeah, me too. Well, you know what? 02:15 Sometimes when people are little confused, 02:17 might come out as sarcastic. 02:18 Yeah. That's true. How should we respond? 02:19 Yeah. How should we? Well, you know what? 02:21 First things first, 02:23 let's kind of get this really good question... 02:24 Write it down in our journal. 02:25 In our journal. Oh, just write it down. 02:27 How dependable is God? 02:30 That's a great question. Yep. 02:31 And you know what? 02:33 I'm already thinking of what we need to do. 02:34 What do we need to do? What? 02:35 There's an artifact I'm thinking that will help us. 02:37 Oh, yeah. 02:38 Can you pick it for us, Nori? 02:40 I think it's 42C. 42C. 02:42 Yeah. Is it? 02:44 It's amazing how we can get cool lessons 02:45 out of different little artifacts. 02:47 Here it is. This is really cool. 02:48 Hey, thank you. 02:50 Wow, I love that design. 02:51 Look at that. Isn't this nice? 02:52 This is a pillowcase. A pillowcase? 02:54 It's a pillowcase and I brought it 02:56 from a country called Peru. 02:58 Oh, cool. 02:59 Oh, I know where Peru is. 03:00 You want me to show it to you on map? 03:02 That'd be great, Sam, if you can show it to us. 03:03 It's right here. 03:05 That's right, that's Peru. You know what? 03:06 We could probably learn a lot 03:08 if we check out a location brief. 03:09 Oh, yeah. Let's go see it. 03:11 Elizabeth, do you think there's one on the computer 03:12 we can look at? 03:13 Oh, yeah. 03:15 Awesome. 03:16 Location brief, Peru. 03:20 Lake Titicaca is a large deep lake 03:24 in the middle of the Andes Mountains, 03:26 between Peru and Bolivia. 03:30 The elevation of this lake is over 12,500 feet 03:35 above sea level, 03:37 making it one of the largest and highest navigable lakes 03:43 in the world. 03:45 It's a very big lake, 03:47 measuring 118 miles long and 50 miles wide. 03:54 At its deepest, it's almost 1000 feet deep. 04:00 The climate here is cold and dry year round 04:04 because of the high altitude. 04:07 Many visitors often get altitude sickness 04:11 when visiting Lake Titicaca. 04:14 Since the lake is surrounded by mountains, 04:17 there are many rivers and streams 04:20 that feed into the lake. 04:22 And in the lake, there are 41 unique islands, 04:26 some which are densely populated. 04:30 Strangely, there is only one river 04:33 that flows outward, and it's a small river, 04:37 draining only 5% of the excess water. 04:41 The other 95% is lost to evaporation from the sun 04:46 and from strong winds. 04:50 There are hundreds of different Incan ruins in this region. 04:55 And many historians claim that this is 04:58 where the Incan Empire began. 05:02 One of the islands alone 05:04 Isla del Sol has 180 ruins. 05:09 One of the most unique people groups of the area 05:13 are the Uros people 05:15 that live on Lake Titicaca on small manmade islands 05:20 built from layers of totora reeds. 05:25 Another unique group is the people 05:27 that live on the Island of Amantani. 05:32 There are no cars or any kind of machines on the island. 05:36 So everything is done by hand. 05:41 This like is no doubt one of the most fascinating lakes 05:46 in the world. 05:48 This concludes this location brief. 05:53 That's so cool. Beautiful. 05:55 Wow, that's a cool place. 05:56 Yeah, really cool. 05:58 I got to travel there not too long ago. 05:59 Oh, really? 06:00 But we went to a really cool part of Peru 06:02 called Lake Titicaca. 06:03 I never heard of it. 06:05 Yeah, it's right on the border of Peru and Bolivia. 06:07 But the cool thing is, is that on this lake, 06:10 there is a group of people 06:11 that have been living on the lake. 06:13 Really? On the lake? 06:15 On the lake. How is that possible? 06:16 And they've been there for hundreds of years. 06:18 Really? 06:20 They're called the Uros people. 06:21 What is that? 06:23 Well, this is an interesting culture of people 06:24 that decided to build islands that float on the lake. 06:30 Oh, cool. Yeah. 06:31 So we decided, wouldn't it be cool 06:33 if we can spend some time there with the Uros people. 06:35 It must be cool. 06:37 They're really isolated because they're way out 06:38 in the lake and very few people know about them, 06:40 but we were able to get an opportunity 06:42 to go spend time with them. 06:43 Cool, that's awesome. 06:45 So we went to this town. 06:46 The town was called Puno. 06:48 And when we arrived, 06:49 a man picked us up in the center of town, 06:51 took us in a taxi to the edge 06:53 where there was like a little dock. 06:55 And then we got on this little itty bitty boat. 06:57 I mean, it was like twice as long as this table. 06:59 Oh, wow, that's so small. 07:01 That's it and then we started chugging out 07:02 into the middle of the lake. 07:06 And right away, eventually we arrived to this 07:08 little community of islands, if I'm not mistaken, 07:11 there was about 80 islands. 07:12 Eighty? Oh, that's a lot of islands. 07:14 Yeah, and each one is very small 07:16 because there's only about two or three families 07:18 at the most that live on each island. 07:19 Okay. What? 07:21 Yeah. 07:22 And these people decided 07:23 that they could take us to their island 07:25 where we would get to visit and stay with them 07:26 for a whole day. 07:27 How's their culture? 07:29 It was really different. It was amazing because... 07:30 So each family has their own island? 07:32 Their own island and they share different parts... 07:34 That's awesome. 07:35 It was very cool. Yeah. 07:36 Now, I was super curious. 07:38 And I was wondering what, 07:39 how in the world could they make an island 07:40 and how could it just float? 07:42 Yeah, how did they? 07:43 We learned a lot about the Uros people 07:45 because it turns out they make their island 07:47 out of a totora plant. 07:48 What's a totora plant? 07:50 Now, it's a reed, you know those grassy tall reeds that 07:53 grow on the edges of the lake? 07:54 Yeah. 07:55 Well, at Lake Titicaca, 07:57 there's a lot of reed that grow around the edges. 07:58 Oh, okay. 08:00 And the Uros people really depend on those totora plants 08:03 for everything. 08:05 Everything? 08:06 Yeah, I mean, besides building their island out of the totora, 08:08 I mean, there was super thick piles up of the totora 08:12 and they build up their island and it floats. 08:14 Well, what will happen if there was no totora? 08:16 They would be in trouble. 08:17 Yeah. That's true. 08:19 They really depend on the totora, 08:20 and it's not just the island 08:21 they actually build their house out of the totora. 08:23 Their house? Really? 08:24 They build boats out of the totora. 08:25 So it could easily fall over. 08:27 You would think so, 08:28 but the totora plant is really dependable. 08:29 They even eat the totora. 08:32 They do everything. It's amazing. 08:33 So that would be like eating your own house. 08:35 Yeah, if it comes right. 08:37 Now, the cool thing that first evening 08:39 that we got to be there, 08:40 they sat us down and they gave us dinner 08:42 and we got to eat together. 08:44 It was really nice. Oh, they're nice people. 08:45 Oh, they were super friendly. 08:47 And the cool thing is we got to ask questions. 08:48 They took us out on their boat. 08:50 They showed us how they would fish 08:52 and it was really cool. 08:53 But that night after supper, their young teenager, 08:57 a guy that was kind of like your age, 08:58 came out, and you know what? 09:00 He had made this. 09:02 Oh, that's so cool. Yep. 09:05 And he wanted to see if I wanted to buy it. 09:07 Oh, so you bought it? 09:08 Absolutely, absolutely, how was it? 09:10 I would love to buy this from you. 09:12 So he told me how he made it, 09:14 and how he depended on 09:16 selling little things here and there 09:17 so that they can kind of support themselves. 09:19 And their family, yeah. 09:20 Yeah. Right. 09:21 So I got to thinking, man, 09:23 I definitely want to support him. 09:24 And it made me also think of how much they depend 09:25 on the totora reeds... 09:27 Yeah, that's true. For survival. 09:29 And just as the question today was talking about, 09:32 I think there's a Bible verse that reminds us 09:34 how much we need to depend on God. 09:36 You want me to look it up? 09:38 Could you find a good verse for us? 09:39 I think there's one in Mark 13:31. 09:44 Mark 13:31. Mark 13:31. 09:45 There's a good verse in there that shows us exactly 09:48 what we're trying to teach here. 09:49 Oh, here it is. 09:51 Right about here. 09:53 "Heaven and earth will pass away, 09:55 but My words will by no means pass away." 09:59 What does that mean? 10:00 It means, God's words are dependable. 10:02 Yeah. 10:04 Everything else will come and go, 10:05 but God's words will stay forever. 10:08 Now that's dependable. As the totora plant. 10:09 Yeah, well, the totora plant doesn't stay forever. 10:11 That'd be kinda cool, right? 10:13 But it's very dependable. 10:15 God's word is very dependable. 10:17 Oh, that's awesome. You know what? 10:18 We've got to write this verse down in our journal. 10:21 Yes, good verse to remember. 10:22 That was Mark 13:31. Mark 13:31. 10:27 Cool. 10:28 Do you have any pictures from Peru? 10:29 Yeah, yeah, any pictures? 10:31 You know, I did bring some back. 10:32 I think they're on the file too. 10:34 Oh, they're on the file. 10:35 Elizabeth, look up the file that's called the Uros people, 10:37 I think. 10:38 Okay. There it is. 10:41 Wow, their houses are so cool. 10:43 And that one sounds even better. 10:46 That's awesome. 10:47 Today's question is interesting, 10:49 because although the treasure 10:50 text reminds us that God is dependable. 10:53 The question also asks if that means 10:55 we don't have to do anything, 10:57 and that we can just sit back 10:58 and God will take care of everything. 11:00 I think God wants each one of us to be responsible 11:03 for doing our part. 11:05 The Bible speaks many times about how bad it is to be lazy, 11:09 and how everyone needs to help with various responsibilities. 11:11 Yeah. 11:13 It kind of reminded me of that young teenager 11:15 on that floating island that sold me this pillowcase. 11:18 Yes, God is providing them with the wonderful totora reeds 11:22 that sustain their lives there. 11:24 But these families still have to go out 11:26 and work for themselves too. 11:28 Yeah. 11:29 In this case, that son went beyond the totora 11:32 to make these neat, handmade items, 11:35 so that he could sell them to help his family. 11:37 I thought that was awesome. 11:39 And that's why I bought it. 11:40 I wanted to support the young man, 11:43 because I think that he was being a great example 11:46 for young people everywhere. 11:47 Yeah, that's true. 11:49 Each one of you also has things that you can do 11:51 to help your family. 11:53 I think God wants each one of us 11:55 to be a big helper, wherever we are. 11:57 When you're at home, 11:59 you shouldn't be lazy and sit around 12:00 while everyone else provides for you. 12:03 You should do your part too. 12:05 You can clean your room, make your bed, 12:07 help do chores around the house. 12:10 Yes, God is dependable. 12:12 But I hope you will decide today 12:14 to also be dependable to your family 12:16 by helping to do your part. 12:19 And by the way, if you do it with a long, 12:21 grumpy face, that doesn't really count. 12:23 No. That doesn't count. 12:25 Do it with a joyful heart. 12:26 Yeah. 12:28 God has set the ultimate example. 12:29 Heaven and earth may come and go 12:31 as the Bible verse says, 12:33 but God will always be dependable. 12:35 Let's you and me do the same. 12:37 Just like it says there in today's Bible Treasure. 12:40 Yeah. 12:41 Hey, guys, let's have a closing prayer. 12:43 Yeah, we should invite the crew. 12:44 Let's bring them in. Let's bring them in. 12:46 Hey, guys, come on in. 12:47 Would one of you guys like to pray for us? 12:49 Oh, sure. I would. I love to. 12:51 Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Let's bow our heads. 12:55 Dear Jesus, thank You for just being so dependable 12:58 and creating us and just knowing that 13:00 we could always look to you 13:01 when we have problems. 13:03 I pray this all in Jesus' name, amen. 13:06 Hey, do you guys wanna hear the answer to the brain teaser? 13:07 The brain teaser! 13:09 Yeah! Definitely. 13:10 All right, that was a hard one I think. 13:11 Let's see if you guys can figure it out. 13:13 Let me read it for you guys again. 13:15 If an electric train is going west at 90 miles per hour, 13:19 and there is a strong easterly wind, 13:21 which direction will the smoke from the train drift? 13:24 East? Yeah, that would I would say. 13:26 I don't know. No. 13:28 I think, I know. 13:30 It's an electric train. There is no smoke. 13:32 That's right. 13:35 You guys got it. I get it. 13:36 I'm so glad you joined us today for Bible Treasures. 13:39 Don't forget to search for treasure every day. 13:44 See you next time. 13:45 Let's go out to the dig site, guys. 13:47 Bring this artifact? Yeah, bring that with us. 13:48 We can take a look at it. 13:51 I bet we're gonna find some pretty cool stuff today. 13:53 Whatever really. Something to remember. 13:54 Yeah. |
