00:03 Hello there. Happy Sabbath. Come on in. We're about to meet
00:08 with the King. 00:09 ¤ ¤ 00:54 Hello, I'm Auntie Nat. It's great you could all join us to 00:57 meet with the King. We're about 00:59 to open the Sabbath. Come and 01:01 join our worship time together. Hello Auntie Cecily. 01:04 Hello Auntie Nat. 01:05 Thanks for joining us. And hello children. It's great to see you 01:09 here too. It's great to be able to meet and worship the King. 01:13 Auntie Cecily, would you please say a prayer for us to open our 01:16 worship time. 01:18 Yes. Dear Father in heaven we thank you that we can come and 01:22 worship you again on another Sabbath and we pray that you 01:26 would bless our hearts and minds. For Jesus' sake, Amen. 01:30 Amen. Do you know this is a great time to reflect on our 01:33 week and count the blessings that God has sent us. Liam you 01:37 have a blessing for us today. 01:39 My family, they were in a very tough time and we just prayed 01:45 to God and He helped us out of it. 01:47 That's great, Liam. Thanks for sharing that blessing with us. 01:50 Auntie Cecily, you have a blessing to share with us 01:53 about the Sabbath. 01:54 Yes. You know after Jesus died on the cross his disciples 01:59 continued to keep the 02:01 Sabbath as a witness to us of the importance of this 02:04 special day of rest. Sabbath observance was still a big part 02:09 of the disciples lives. The fact that it is mentioned numerous 02:14 times through the book of Acts shows us that God wanted to us 02:19 not to forget it. Do you know that we are also Christ's 02:25 disciples? God wants us to keep the Sabbath like they did. The 02:30 disciples had a special close relationship with Jesus. They 02:35 spent three and a half years with Him. We don't have Jesus in 02:40 the flesh with us, but we have the Bible to show us how to 02:46 live. Jesus promises us in John 20:29 that those of us who 02:52 haven't seen Jesus in the flesh but believe in Him just the same 02:57 will be blessed. Let's claim that promise and believe in the 03:02 Bible and the witness that Jesus and the disciples left for 03:06 us in keeping the Sabbath. 03:08 Amen. Thanks Auntie Cecily. Do you know another way we can 03:12 worship God is through song and we have Pastor Rick here to help 03:18 us. Thanks Pastor Rick. 03:19 Hi boys and girls. Let's sing 03:21 I Have Decided to Follow Jesus. 04:06 Pastor Rick could we please sing I Have the Joy? 04:10 I Have the Joy. Let's do it. 04:47 Pastor Rick can we please sing Seek Ye First? 04:50 Yes, let's do. It's a lovely song. You ready? 05:40 Thanks Pastor Rick. It's great to praise God in song. 05:43 Kate, we had a blessing at Sunnyside this week. Will we 05:47 share that with the children at home. Yes. Okay let's go have 05:50 a look at that. 05:52 Hello boys and girls. My name is Dr. John Hammond. Welcome to 06:00 the Australian home of Mrs. Ellen White. Come with me. 06:04 I've got some stories to tell you. 06:12 Thank you for coming back to listen to the stories about 06:18 Ellen. Ellen was one of the greatest writers the world has 06:23 ever seen. She was probably, I'm going to use a big word, the 06:28 most prolific, in other words she wrote more than any other 06:33 woman ever wrote. Her pile of books, one on top of the other, 06:37 and all her articles written in many languages would reach up 06:42 far higher than the very top of this house. Today if I want to 06:47 write a book, well this is my little invention, I wish it was, 06:51 but this is mine. I turn this on and I can sit in an airplane 06:56 or a train and I can type and it talks to my I phone. Doesn't 07:01 even have to touch. I just type and it comes on the screen. 07:07 It is so easy. Well before they invented computers, we used 07:13 pens and pens are great because you just twist and out comes the 07:19 ink and you can write thousands of words without running out. 07:25 Well before that we had the typewriters. This typewriter is 07:33 nearly 120 years old and you type one letter at a time and 07:39 if you did two at a time they would get jammed. And that 07:44 much good and it cost a lot of money. No computer and you 07:50 just had to slowly type away. Well Ellen when she wrote, she 07:54 wrote she didn't have a typewriter. She had secretaries. 07:59 But she would take some ink and this ink well belonged to my 08:05 grandmother and this is what Ellen used; just a simple pen. 08:12 And they were blotchy, they were scratchy. And I'm going to start 08:16 to write. So I will write Hello my name is Dr., but you know 08:29 as you wrote the ink would be used up and it would have to be 08:37 put back in and you'd put your arm on it and there'd be a 08:46 smudge. You could try and mop it up. If the rain came on it, it 08:53 would smudge. And that, even 100 years ago, was all that you 08:59 had to write with. And you know, she wrote all those books and as 09:06 she wrote, she would send the copy and her secretary would get 09:13 paper in the typewriter. And little Rory Thompson that we 09:17 spoke about in our last story, he learned after his leg got 09:22 better how to use one of these machines and he used to type for 09:27 her. Because Ellen wasn't a very good speller and she would rely 09:33 on her secretaries. While she was here she wrote a book that 09:38 was very, very important and people have said that this book, 09:46 called the Desire of Ages, aside from the Bible, is probably the 09:51 greatest book ever written in the English language. And she 09:55 wrote it while she was living here in Sunnyside. In fact, 09:59 if you go outside you'll see a little sign, a little plaque, 10:04 and it says Under this tree, the tree is gone, it was an old 10:09 pine tree, is where she sat down and she wrote this book and 10:13 Satan didn't like her writing the book because it was all 10:17 about the life of Jesus. Another book she wrote while she was 10:22 here at Sunnyside was this book. How'd you like to buy this book 10:27 second hand. It is very tattered and I'll tell you why it's 10:32 tattered. It's a book called Christ's Object Lessons and in 10:36 1913 a man knocked at my grandmother's door in New 10:40 Zealand and he said I've got a book here written by a lady 10:44 called Ellen and my grandmother bought this and because of that 10:50 she learned to love Jesus and she joined our church and my 10:55 grandfather became a minister. My father was a missionary and 10:59 I worked for the church for all these years because of the 11:04 wonderful work and the wonderful writing of Ellen inspired by 11:11 angels to write for God the story of Jesus Christ. And the 11:15 world is so thankful for what Ellen did and what Ellen wrote 11:20 all with a fountain pen. That's a great story. 11:24 Hi boys and girls. Happy Sabbath I hope you have your Bibles 11:28 ready. It would be good if you could follow along with us. 11:31 Auntie Cecily would you like to say a prayer for us please? 11:35 Dear Father, thank you for our Bibles. May the children's 11:39 hearts be warmed to you and please give us understanding 11:44 as we read your words. In Jesus' name Amen. 11:48 Amen. Now Sarah, what happened last week, what did we study 11:52 about? Jacob. Jacob. And something happened to Jacob. 11:56 Who deceived him? Laban. Laban. And what happened? 11:59 He has two wives instead of one. 12:01 He does, doesn't he? And there became a lot of jealousy and 12:04 strife because there were two wives and as well as the maids. 12:08 They had lots of children and all that jealousy and strife 12:13 affected the 12 personalities of Jacob's sons. And we're going 12:17 read about one son in particular and his name was 12:21 Joseph. Okay, Liam, you've got our first reading. And that 12:26 tells us who they were. Genesis 35:23-26. 12:31 Now the sons of Jacob were 12. The sons of Leah were Reuben, 12:37 Jacob's firstborn and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and 12:44 Zebulon. The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin. The sons of 12:50 Bilhah, Rachel's maid servant, were Dan and Naphtali. The sons 12:56 of Zilpah, Leah's maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were 13:01 the sons of Jacob who were born to him an Paddan-aram. 13:06 Wow, so that's 12 sons, that's a lot of children. Let's go over 13:10 their names again. Let's have a look in the Bible. So who was 13:16 the firstborn. Reuben. Reuben. And then there was Simeon, and 13:22 Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulon and then Joseph and Benjamin and 13:29 then Dan and Naphtali and then Gad and Asher. That's a lot of 13:35 boys isn't it? Okay. So today we're going to study about 13:40 Joseph. Now who was Joseph's mother? Rachel. Rachel. And was 13:45 Rachel Jacob's favorite wife. Yes. Unfortunately Jacob favored 13:50 Joseph because he favored Rachel and that caused a lot of problem 13:55 in the family. Ella, can you please read Genesis 37:3-4. 14:01 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all the children because 14:07 he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many 14:11 colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him 14:16 more than all of his brothers, they hated him and could not 14:20 speak peacefully to him. 14:23 Mmm. So Jacob made a very special coat for Joseph and it 14:26 was a coat of many colors. It was the type of coat that people 14:30 of distinction wore. Do you think his brothers were mad 14:33 about that? Yes. They were very mad because they saw that their 14:36 father was favoring Joseph and they were a bit worried that 14:39 perhaps Joseph, who was one of the youngest, was going to take 14:44 birthright instead of one of the oldest. But Joseph was different 14:48 to the other boys. Okay, Ella you're going to read a Torch 14:51 Light now from Mrs. White's writings to see what she has to 14:55 say about that. 15:02 There was one, however, of a widely different character, the 15:06 elder son of Rachel, Joseph, whose rare personal beauty 15:11 seemed to reflect in word, 15:15 beauty of mind and heart, pure active, and joyous. The lad gave 15:21 evidence also of moral, earnest and firmness. He listened to his 15:28 father's instructions and loved to obey God. 15:31 _ that Joseph loved to obey God. But Joseph obeying 15:37 God, do you think that made his brother's even madder. Yes. 15:40 It did. It made them very cross. Okay now Elijah you have our 15:44 next reading for us. Genesis 37:5-8. 15:48 Now Jacob had a dream and he told it to his brothers and they 15:52 hated him even more. So he said to them. Please hear this dream 15:56 which I have dreamed. There we were binding sheaves in the 16:01 field and behold my sheaf arose and also stood upright and 16:05 indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my 16:09 sheaf. And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over 16:13 us; or shall you indeed have dominion over us. They hated him 16:17 even more for his dreams and for his words. 16:19 Mmm. His brothers were very cross with him. Okay, Auntie 16:23 Cecily, can you ready Genesis 37:9-11 please. 16:28 Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his 16:31 brothers and said, Look, I have dreamed another dream and this 16:36 time the sun, the moon and the 11 stars bowed down to me. 16:43 Though his told it to his father and his brothers and his father 16:48 rebuked him and said to him what is this dream you have dreamed? 16:52 Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down 16:58 to the earth before you? And his brothers envied him. But his 17:03 father kept the matter in mind. 17:04 So look, I have a picture here of Joseph having a sleep and 17:09 you can see there is the picture of the two dreams. So we have 17:13 the dream of the stars and the moon bowing down before him, 17:16 and the sheaves of wheat bowing down before him. And they are 17:20 the dreams that he had. Do you know what? Even his father in 17:23 the end rebuked him but the Bible said he kept the matter 17:26 in his mind. I think he must have been thinking perhaps God 17:30 is revealing something special to my son. Do you think God was 17:34 revealing something special to Joseph. Yes. He was. So one day 17:38 Joseph's brothers go off with their father's sheep to find 17:42 pasture. And Jacob asked Joseph to do something. Kate, can you 17:46 please read for us in Genesis 37:14-20. 17:50 And he said to him please go and see if it is well with your 17:54 brothers and well with the flocks and bring back word to 17:58 me. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron and he 18:03 went to Shechem. 18:04 Now a certain man found him and there he was wandering in the 18:09 field and the man asked him saying, What are you seeking? 18:14 So he said, I am seeking my brothers. Please tell me where 18:18 they are feeding their flocks. And the man said, They have 18:24 departed from here for I heard them say let us go to Dothan. 18:30 So Joseph went after his brothers and found them in 18:33 Dothan. Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came 18:39 near them they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said 18:45 to one another. Look this dreamer is coming. Come 18:49 therefore let us now kill him and cast him into some pit and 18:54 we shall say, some wild beast has devoured him. We shall see 18:58 what become of his dreams. 19:00 Mmm. So his brothers weren't happy were they? They were so 19:03 angry they wanted to kill him. Where else have we read in the 19:08 Bible about a brother killing a brother? Cain and Abel. That's 19:12 right. And Cain killed Abel because he was cross at Abel 19:16 for being obedient. And is the same thing happening here? Yes. 19:20 The brothers realized that God was bestowing a special 19:23 prophetic inspiration on Joseph but they didn't want to know 19:26 about it. They did not want to repent and leave their evil ways 19:29 And every time they looked at Joseph, they were just so cross 19:32 because they didn't want to change. But do you now what? 19:36 God called Reuben to intervene and he talked his brothers into 19:40 not killing Joseph. Let's see what happened. Nick can you 19:44 please read Genesis 37:23. 19:48 So it came to pass when Joseph had come to his brothers that 19:59 they stripped Joseph of his tunic, the tunic of many colors, 20:02 that was on him. 20:06 Mmm. So they didn't kill him. They threw him into a pit. 20:09 I wonder what happens next. Sarah, can you please read 20:12 Genesis 37:26-28. 20:15 So Judas said to his brothers What profit is there if we kill 20:19 our brother and conceal his blood. Come and let us sell him 20:23 to the Ishmaelite's and let not our hand be upon him, for he is 20:28 our brother and our flesh. And his brothers listened. Then 20:32 Midianite traders passed by, so the brothers pulled Joseph up 20:37 and lifted him out of the pit and sold him to the Israelites 20:41 for 20 shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt. 20:45 What a terrible thing. Imagine selling your brother or sister 20:49 as a slave. Goodness me. But God intervened. They didn't kill 20:52 him, they sold him. Okay Auntie Cecily can you please read our 20:56 next verse for us. Genesis 37:31-35. 21:00 Then they took Joseph's tunic, killed a kid of the goats and 21:05 dipped the tunic in the blood. Then they sent the tunic of many 21:10 colours and they brought it to their father and said, We have 21:14 found this. Do you know whether it is you son's tunic or not? 21:19 And he recognized it and said, It is my son's tunic. A wild 21:25 beast had devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces. 21:30 And Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist and 21:35 mourned for his son many days. And all his sons and all his 21:40 daughters arose to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted 21:45 and he said, For I shall go down into the grave to my son in 21:51 mourning. Thus his father wept for him. 21:53 Mmm. So the brothers lied to their father. But do you know 21:57 what? Joseph was still alive and that was God's doing. He 22:01 protected him and even though he was sold as a slave, which 22:04 terrible, he was still alive and God had something very special. 22:08 Quickly let's read Psalm 18:2, our memory verse before we 22:13 finish. Okay. The Lord is my 22:19 rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God my strength 22:25 in whom I will trust. My shield and the horn of my salvation 22:30 my stronghold. 22:32 What an amazing promise that God has provided for us. 22:35 Thank you boys and girls for joining us today in reading the 22:38 Bible. It was wonderful to have you along with us. If you ask 22:42 God, He will strengthen you in the time of need. He will 22:45 deliver you. In our story today things appeared disastrous but 22:49 God can bring something good out of bad. That is what we are 22:53 going to study about next Sabbath. 22:57 God delivered Joseph out of the hands of his brothers. God had a 23:02 plan for his life and God has a plan for your life as well. When 23:07 we study our Bibles, God can reveal his will for our lives. 23:11 Sabbath's a great time to reading our Bibles but God also 23:16 wants us to read our Bibles every day. Auntie Nat, can you 23:21 tell us about the devotional that relates to our study today? 23:24 Sure Auntie Cecily. We have a seven-day devotional study 23:27 available on Joseph, the subject we studied together today. This 23:31 devotional expands on what we have learnt. You can download it 23:35 and print it free from our website which is 23:37 www.adaywiththeking.com. This will help you to read your Bible 23:42 every day and to spend time getting to know God. Auntie 23:46 Cecily will we do our memory verse? 23:47 Yes. Are you ready to read it through all 23:49 together children? Yes. 23:50 Psalm 18:2- The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer 23:58 my God, my strength, in him I will trust, my shield and the 24:04 horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 24:08 Auntie Nat, you ready to sing our blessing song to the 24:11 children? Let's do that. 24:12 ¤May God bless you and keep you, and fill your heart with love¤ 24:28 ¤May God guide and protect you and watch you from above¤ 24:38 ¤As Sabbath after Sabbath we greet the day of rest¤ 24:48 ¤The day the King of glory has sanctified and blessed¤ 24:58 ¤Good bye my friend till we meet again¤ 25:04 ¤For another day with the King¤ 25:11 Good bye, Good bye. See you next Sabbath. 25:13 ¤ ¤ |
