00:01 Hello there. Happy Sabbath. Come on in. We're about to meet
00:06 with the king.
00:08 ¤ ¤
00:54 Good day. I'm Auntie Nat. It's great that you could all join
00:57 us to meet with the King. We're
00:59 about to open the Sabbath. Come
01:00 and join our worship time together. Hello Auntie Cecily.
01:03 It's great you could join us again.
01:04 Hello Auntie Nat.
01:06 Hello children. It's great that you could come and meet the
01:09 King. And hello Teddy, it's great that you could be here
01:13 too. Auntie Cecily, would you please say a prayer for us to
01:17 open our worship time together.
01:19 Yes. Dear God thank you for bringing us safely through
01:23 another week and thank you for your Sabbath and thank you for
01:27 all the boys and girls who are able to join us today.
01:31 In Jesus' name, Amen.
01:34 Amen. Do you know this is a great time to reflect on our
01:37 week and see how God has blessed us. Nick you have a blessing
01:41 for us.
01:42 Um, once my cat was lost and he was lost for four days and
01:48 my mom was praying for him and hoping he'd be okay and everyone
01:53 was really scared. So mom had been door knocking and trying
01:59 to find out if they'd seen him for a few days. And then she
02:04 went to our next door neighbors and he heard a meow under the
02:09 house so they let him out and they found him under there and
02:13 that was a really good blessing.
02:16 That's great Nick thanks for sharing that blessing with us.
02:19 Auntie Cecily you have
02:21 a blessing to share with us about the Sabbath.
02:24 Yes. When Jesus comes again to take us to heaven and then gives
02:29 us an earth made new, we will still be keeping the Sabbath.
02:34 Mmm. That's what Isaiah 66:22 and 23 tells us. For eternity
02:39 Sabbath will continue. So if we're going to be keeping the
02:44 Sabbath in heaven we should get used to keeping it on this earth
02:49 Keeping the Sabbath is a sign of our love for God and by it we
02:54 let people know that he is our King.
02:57 Praise God! Thanks Cecily for sharing that with us. Do you
03:01 know another way we can worship God is through song and we have
03:05 Pastor Rick here with us. Thanks Pastor Rick.
03:08 Hi boys and girls. Let's sing the song Remember the Sabbath.
04:38 Pastor Rick do you think we could sing O Friend Do You
04:41 Love Jesus?
04:42 Oh I think we certainly can.
06:00 Pastor Rick can we sing Be Like Jesus?
06:04 Yes, that's a great song. Let's sing it together.
06:45 Thanks Pastor Rick. It's great to share God and worship God
06:49 in song. Ben we discovered a blessing at Sunnyside this week.
06:52 Will we share that with the children at home? Yes.
06:55 Okay let's go have a look at that.
07:01 Hello boys and girls. My name is Dr. John Hammond. Welcome to the
07:07 Australian home of Mrs. Ellen White. Come with me.
07:11 I've got some stories to tell you.
07:15 Thank you for coming back to listen to another story about
07:24 Ellen. Now I want you to do something because I want you to
07:32 do what your mother did probably as soon as you were
07:36 born. Hold up your fingers. Have you got 10? Yes. You know my
07:41 son is a doctor and he delivers lots of babies and sometimes
07:46 a baby is born with an extra finger. And as soon as they do
07:51 that, they just snip it off and the baby grows up normally.
07:57 It happens quite often. But every now and again someone is
08:02 born with a finger missing or a funny hand because we don't all
08:07 develop the same way and that is why our mamas always look at our
08:12 fingers and toes when we are born. A little girl called Katy
08:18 lived here in Courenbong. Her name was Katy Ennis and she was
08:24 four years old. At the age of four you start to notice the
08:30 other boys and girls have got more fingers than I did. When I
08:36 was a little boy I lived in a town called Kempsey and there
08:41 was a man there who worked in a sawmill. And he was sawing a
08:45 piece of wood one day and he was whistling, looking the wrong
08:50 way and the saw went whoosh and took off his thumb. He was so
08:55 sad because he was an elder. He could no longer shake hands with
08:59 people because it felt so strange and you go yuck and
09:07 finally he came to my father. My father was a surgeon. He said
09:11 Doctor what can we do. I can't be an elder because I'm too
09:16 ashamed about my missing thumb. And my dad said, I'll tell you
09:21 what I can do. I can take your big toe, cut it off, and I can
09:27 stitch it and sew and graft it onto your hand and then I'll
09:32 trim it and nobody will know that it's not a thumb. He did
09:36 that. The man was so happy. He went back to church. He could
09:41 shake people's hands. He could even suck his toe in church.
09:46 But little Katy, she knew she had a problem because her hand
09:52 was very small and very, very thin and after church Ellen used
09:57 to meet them all up in the foyer where the big village church is
10:01 now but it was a wooden church. And she knew all the kids by
10:06 name and she saw that Katy would stand back and she would always
10:11 cover her hand. And when she wasn't covering her hand she
10:17 would put it behind her back. She was very sad. One day when
10:21 she was seven Ellen called her and she said come here. Show me
10:27 me your hand. She said you've got a beautiful hand but I want
10:31 to have a meeting with you in heaven and I'm going to look
10:36 at your hand and I'm going to ask you how you used your
10:40 withered, imperfect hand to help Jesus while you were living on
10:45 earth. And Ellen went home and she never met Katy again but
10:50 Katy grew up. She got married. She became a midwife, delivered
10:55 babies, and she went to live in Indonesia and she became one of
11:01 the most famous midwives in the whole country of Java because
11:06 her hand was so small that sometimes when a baby is being
11:10 born it is very, very difficult when you've got a big hand to
11:14 help the baby be born. And because she had only three
11:19 fingers and they were very long, her hand was small and very thin
11:25 she was able to help deliver babies without them being hurt.
11:30 When she gets to heaven she's going to meet Ellen and I'm sure
11:35 she can hardly wait. And I suspect when she meets Jesus
11:39 she'll even say thank you for letting me born the way I was
11:43 because I help so many babies come into this world because
11:48 of my deformity.
11:49 And boys and girls and all of you who are listening
11:53 there may be some of you who are not pretty. You may think you're
11:57 not very smart. You may think you haven't got everything right
12:01 with your body. You may think there are other people who are
12:06 better and smarter and quicker but Jesus chose you to be
12:11 exactly the way you are because he has a work for every one of
12:16 us and he used Ellen all her life. Hasn't that been wonderful
12:22 Thank you.
12:23 Good day boys and girls. Happy Sabbath. Welcome to our Bible
12:27 study. I hope you have your Bibles ready to read along with
12:31 us. Auntie Cecily, can you please pray for us.
12:35 Dear Father thank you for bringing us together on another
12:39 Sabbath to study your word. We pray that you would be with us.
12:43 In Jesus' name, Amen.
12:46 Amen. Now Liam what happened last Sabbath? Who was it about?
12:49 Joseph became the prime minister of Egypt and he also saved Egypt
12:55 from starvation.
12:56 Yes he did, didn't he? Through God; God helped him to do that.
13:00 We're going to read what happens about Joseph's family.
13:03 Okay, Liam, you're going to read our first verse again. It's
13:06 Genesis 42:1-5.
13:13 When Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, Jacob said to
13:18 his sons, Why do you look at one another? And he said, Indeed I
13:23 have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down to that place
13:28 and buy for us there that we may live and not die. So Joseph's 10
13:33 brothers went down to buy grain in Egypt. But Jacob did not send
13:38 Joseph's brother Benjamin with his brothers for he said, Lest
13:44 calamity befall him. And the sons of Israel went to buy grain
13:49 among those who journeyed for the famine was in the land of
13:54 Canaan.
13:56 So the famine had stretched all the way to Canaan from Egypt
13:59 to Joseph's family and Jacob sends the 10 brothers down to
14:03 buy some food. Now did Jacob send Benjamin? No. No because he
14:07 was afraid something would happen to him just like what
14:10 happened to Joseph. Ella, you're going to read Genesis 42:6-9
14:14 please.
14:16 Now Joseph was governor over the land and it was he who sold to
14:20 all the people of the land. And Joseph's brothers came and
14:25 bowed down before him with their faces to the earth. Joseph saw
14:29 his brothers and recognized them. But he acted as a stranger
14:33 to them and spoke roughly to them. Then he said to them,
14:37 Where do you come and they said from the land of Canaan to buy
14:41 food. So Joseph recognized his brothers but they did not
14:44 recognize him. Then Joseph remembered about the dreams
14:48 which he had dreamt about them and he said to them, You are
14:53 spies and you've come to see the nakedness of the land.
14:57 So the brothers don't recognize him do they? No. Joseph was
15:01 wearing Egyptian clothes and he was all grown up. But Joseph
15:05 recognizes his brothers. What about all those dreams that
15:09 Joseph had. Were his brothers bowing down to him? So those
15:14 dreams came true, didn't they? They did. Praise the Lord. But
15:18 he's really concerned that Benjamin is not with them and
15:22 he's worried that something's happened to him. So he throws
15:27 them into prison. Okay Elijah, you are going to read for us
15:32 Genesis 42:18-20.
15:34 Then Joseph said to them on the third day, Do this and live for
15:39 I fear God. If you are honest men, let one of your brothers
15:44 be confined to your prison house but you go and carry grain for
15:48 the famine of your houses and bring your youngest brother to
15:52 me so your words will be verified and ye shall not die.
15:55 And they did so.
15:56 So Joseph's testing them. He wants to know that Benjamin is
16:03 very safe. Okay, Nick, let's read Genesis 42:21 please.
16:09 Then they said to one another, We are truly guilty concerning
16:13 our brother for we saw the anguish of his soul when he
16:17 pleaded with us we would not hear. Therefore this distress
16:22 has come upon us.
16:23 Mmm. Let's have a look at our Torch Light, Mrs. White's
16:26 writings and see what she has to shine on this verse. Elijah,
16:29 would you please read that for us.
16:39 During the years since Joseph
16:40 had been separated from his
16:42 brothers, these sons of Jacob had changed in character. The
16:46 three days in the Egyptian prison were days of bitter
16:49 sorrow as the brothers reflected upon their past sins.
16:52 So do you think Joseph's brothers were starting to feel
16:56 bad what they'd done to Joseph? Yeah. And do you know what?
16:59 I think God had been working on their hearts all these years.
17:03 Do you know that if we ask God He can forgive us for our sins
17:06 and He can change our hearts too. Let's look at Psalm 51:10,
17:10 our memory verse, and let's read that together and see what the
17:13 Bible promises us.
17:15 You ready? Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a
17:25 steadfast spirit within me.
17:27 So if we read the last part of verse 24, the Bible tells us
17:31 that Joseph chose Simeon to stay back in prison and he let the
17:35 other brothers go home to buy grain. In verse 25, Joseph
17:39 orders that the money the brothers brought with them to
17:42 pay for the food be put back in their sacks. Let's see what
17:46 happens next. Kate, can you please read for us
17:49 Genesis 42:28.
17:51 So he said to his brothers my money has been restored and
17:57 there it is in my sack. Then their hearts failed them and
18:02 all said, saying to one another, What is this that God has done
18:06 to us?
18:08 Mmm. But one of the problems that the brothers had when they
18:11 sold Joseph as a slave to the traders, it was lying and they
18:15 lied to their father about the disappearance of Joseph. I think
18:18 Joseph was testing them to find out to see whether their
18:22 character had been changed. The brothers finally got home and
18:26 they told their father Jacob all what had happened. Okay
18:30 Auntie Cecily, you're going read for us Genesis 42:36 and 38.
18:35 And Jacob their father said to them you have bereaved me.
18:41 Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more and you want to take
18:46 Benjamin. All these things are against me. But he said my son
18:51 shall not go down with you for his brother is dead and he is
18:56 left alone. If any calamity should befall him along the way
19:01 in which you go then you would bring down my gray hair with
19:05 sorrow to the grave. Jacob was really sad wasn't he. He was
19:10 upset. He'd lost his son Joseph. But was he really lost? No. No
19:15 didn't know that. His son Simeon was in jail and then Benjamin
19:19 was supposed to go down next time they bought food. Otherwise
19:23 they'd all starve. Sarah you're going to read for us
19:26 Genesis 43:1-3 please.
19:30 Now the famine was severe in the land and it came to pass when
19:33 they had eaten up the grain which they had bought from Egypt
19:37 that their father said to them, Go back, buy us a little food.
19:40 But Judah spoke to him saying the man solemnly warned us
19:45 saying you shall not see my face unless your brother is with you
19:49 Mmm. Well the famine's still on, they've got no food, and Jacob
19:52 wants the boys to go down and buy more food. But Judah said
19:55 there's no point us going down. Who did they have to have before
19:58 they went back down? Benjamin. Benjamin. Okay Liam, you're
20:03 going to read our next verse, Genesis 43:9.
20:08 I myself will be surety for him. From my hand you shall require
20:14 him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you,
20:20 then let me bear the blame forever.
20:24 So Judah told his father he would bear the blame if anything
20:27 happened to Benjamin. And if we were to read Genesis 42:37
20:31 Reuben said he would allow his two sons to die if he didn't
20:34 bring Benjamin back alive. Did they act that way with Joseph?
20:39 No. No, they hated him, couldn't wait to get rid of him. But now
20:43 they say they would do everything to bring back
20:45 Benjamin alive. Do you think God had changed their hearts? Yes.
20:49 I think he has. Do you know what? It was a hard decision,
20:52 but Jacob finally consented to Benjamin to go down to Egypt to
20:57 buy grain. So, off they go, back down to Egypt. Okay. Now when
21:02 they go back down Joseph sees they have Benjamin and so he
21:06 sends them to his house for a meal. Ella, you're going to
21:09 Genesis 44:1-2 for us.
21:15 And he commanded the steward of his house saying, Fill the
21:22 men's sacks with grain, as much as they can carry, and put each
21:25 man's money in the mouth of his sack. Also put my cup the silver
21:29 cup in the mouth of the sack of the youngest and his grain
21:33 money, so he did according to word that Joseph had spoken.
21:37 Mmm. If we were to continue to read the Bible tells us that
21:41 after the brothers had left, Joseph's men went after them
21:46 and whose sack do you think that cup was found in. Benjamin.
21:50 Benjamin's. Oh the brothers were so upset How were they going
21:54 to face their father going home without Benjamin. But do you
21:58 know what. Judah begged Joseph to keep him as a slave instead
22:02 of Benjamin. And do you know what? Joseph then knew that the
22:06 brothers had full repentance for what they had done. Joseph
22:10 was satisfied and he revealed himself to his brothers and
22:14 Genesis 45 tells of that reunion. Elijah you're going
22:18 to read that for us. Genesis 45:14,15.
22:21 Then he fell on his brother Benjamin's neck and wept and
22:26 Benjamin wept on his neck. Moreover he kissed all his
22:31 brothers and wept over them. And after that his brothers talked
22:35 Wow! So God did bring something good out of something bad.
22:38 Pharaoh was so grateful for what Joseph had done for his
22:41 country and he was very happy that Joseph had found his family
22:45 again. He wanted his family to come down to Egypt and live in
22:49 Goshen on the edge of Egypt because there were still five
22:53 years of famine to go. Joseph was reunited and thus
22:56 the family lived in peace together. Thank you boys and
22:59 girls for joining us in reading the Bible. It was great to have
23:02 you along with us today. It's been wonderful that you've
23:04 joined us as we've journeyed through the book of Genesis.
23:07 We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have. Always remember
23:10 that God loves you so much. If you give your heart to him like
23:14 Joseph did. God can bring you out of what seems something
23:18 disastrous into something very good. Trust Him, pray to Him and
23:22 read His word and watch Him turn your life around just as he did
23:25 in the story of Joseph and his brothers as well as in many
23:29 stories that we have read about in the book of Genesis. May God
23:33 bless each and every one of you.
23:40 When we read our Bibles our hearts can be touched and
23:43 changed by the Holy Spirit. God wants our hearts. He wants to
23:48 spend eternity with you. God wants you to read your Bibles
23:53 everyday so he can communicate with you and tell you how much
23:57 He loves you. Auntie Nat would you tell us about the devotional
24:02 that relates to our study today?
24:03 Sure. Yes, we have a seven-day devotional study available on
24:07 Joseph and His Brothers, the subject we studied together
24:11 today. This devotional expands on what we learnt. You can
24:15 download and print it free from www.adaywiththeking.com.
24:19 This will help you read your Bible every day and spend time
24:22 getting to know God. Auntie Cecily will we go over our memory
24:26 verse?
24:28 Yes, Children ready to say it all together?
24:29 Psalm 51:10- Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew
24:38 a steadfast spirit within me.
24:41 Auntie Nat, do you think it would be nice if the boys and
24:46 girls joined us in singing our blessing song this time?
24:47 I think that would be really lovely. Girls and boys can you
24:51 turn around and we're going to sing to the children at home.
25:01 ¤May God bless and keep you and fill your heart with love¤
25:11 ¤May God guide and protect you and watch you from above¤
25:21 as Sabbath after Sabbath we greet the day of rest,
25:31 ¤the day the King of glory has sanctified and blessed¤
25:42 ¤Good bye my friend till we meet again¤
25:46 ¤For an another day with the King¤
25:52 Good bye, Good bye. Good bye.
