00:01 Hello there. Happy Sabbath.
00:02 Come on in. We're about to meet with the King. 00:05 ¤ ¤ 00:51 Hello everyone. It's great to see you back with us to 00:53 worship the King. How are you Auntie Cecily? 00:55 I'm very well thank you Auntie 00:57 Nat and I'm so glad to be here 00:59 being able to worship the King again. 01:01 Yes the week has zoomed by and I can't believe the kids are 01:05 back with us already. How are you all today. Good. Oh that's 01:09 great. Now Auntie Cecily, I know you want to say a big hello to 01:12 someone who's been watching the program. 01:14 Yes. I want to say hello to Eloise from Queensland. Hello 01:18 Eloise. Hello. Hey Auntie Cecily you're from Queensland aren't 01:23 you. Yes. And it's just a lovely 01:26 place to live. I love the beaches and the weather and 01:30 delicious tropical fruit. 01:31 Oh yum, my favorite. That sounds wonderful doesn't it. 01:35 Now who else do we have to say hello to. Oh Teddy, you are so 01:39 quiet sitting there. Welcome Teddy to our worship time. 01:44 Aunt Cecily, can you please say a prayer for us. 01:46 Yes. Dear Father in heaven, we thank you so much for keeping us 01:50 safe through another week and we pray that you would be with us 01:54 as we worship you now. In Jesus' name. Amen. 01:58 Amen. Thanks Auntie Cecily. Do you know, we have a blessing box 02:01 that tells us about some blessings that we can share with 02:05 others on the Sabbath. Mia would you like to open the box 02:09 and have a look inside? 02:13 Visit a sick person who is in hospital or a nursing home. 02:16 Wow. That would be a nice thing to do wouldn't it? It would be a 02:20 real bright spot to their day. Do you sometimes visit someone 02:24 who is sick and needs cheering up. Can you think of something 02:28 you can take when you visit someone sick? Mia. 02:30 A bunch of flowers. 02:31 Ah, that would be beautiful, wouldn't it. It would show them 02:34 how much you care. It's a good idea, too, to check with the 02:37 nurses that it's okay to visit them, but most of the time it's 02:41 okay. Boys and girls, have you visited someone who is not well 02:44 in their home or hospital or a nursing home to show how much 02:48 Jesus loves them. If you have, we'd love to hear about it at 02:51 www. adaywiththeking. com. dwk@eabnaustralia. org. au 02:54 Aunt Cecily. I now you have a blessing to share with us as 02:58 well. Yes. Remember last Sabbath we 03:00 spoke about the battle of Jericho. Just as God fought the 03:04 battle of Jericho for Joshua, God will fight our battles for 03:09 us as we prepare our hearts and minds for heaven. Our story 03:14 today is about how a peace treaty was made without 03:18 consulting God and the trouble that it brought to Israel. We 03:22 shouldn't make treaties with this world that will prevent us 03:26 from living for Jesus. In all our decisions we need to pray 03:31 and ask God's will for us first. This builds our trust and our 03:35 faith in Him and it helps us to believe in the promises of the 03:39 Bible. Now I want to leave you with another lovely promise. 03:45 It's found in Luke 21:34-36 and Jesus is speaking and He says 03:51 But take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with 03:56 carousing, drunkenness and cares of this life and that day come 04:01 upon you unexpectedly for it will come as a snare 04:05 on all those who 04:06 dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch, therefore, and 04:11 pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all 04:15 these things that will come to pass and to stand before the 04:19 Son of Man. So remember to prepare your hearts for Jesus 04:23 and to believe in God's promises. 04:26 Wow. Thanks Auntie Cecily. Making sure our hearts are 04:29 connected to Jesus through prayer is really important. 04:32 I can see that Pastor Rick has joined us. Thanks so much Pastor 04:37 Rick. I'm glad to be here, especially 04:39 because it's the Sabbath. 04:41 Children, tell me, is it 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or the 7th day 04:45 that the Lord gave us to worship. Seventh. He gave us 04:49 every day, but the seventh is a special day, isn't it? Now 04:52 I've got a song called The Seventh is the Sabbath of 04:55 the Lord. So let's try and sing it together. 05:36 Pastor Rick can we sing My Lord Knows the Way Through the 05:41 Wilderness? 05:42 That's one of my favorite songs and it's a really lovely song 05:46 because it tells me that Jesus leads us also. 06:23 Can we sing it again? 07:00 Pastor Rick can we please sing I Am So Glad? 07:03 I'm so glad you asked could we sing that song because 07:06 it's lovely to be able to sing songs about Jesus. 08:19 Thanks Pastor Rick. Singing praises to God really lifts our 08:22 spirits. And now Dr. John has another inspiring story for us. 08:26 Let's go and listen. 08:28 Hi boys and girls. I'm Dr. John. 08:31 And welcome back to story time. 08:33 And welcome back to boys and girls everywhere. I want to tell 08:38 you a story about a little boy with a big name, strange name. 08:43 His name was Griffith Francis Jones All the way in Wales, way on the 08:49 other side of the world. And as he grew up he discovered he 08:54 wasn't really growing up. He was very, very short. In fact, 08:59 he wasn't any taller than you boys here. He was only about 09:04 that tall. And he was very smart and when he was 15, he thought 09:08 what am I 09:09 going to do with myself? I'm too small to be much good. So he 09:13 went to sea as a cabin boy. Now a cabin boy has to clean the 09:17 decks, make the beds, cook the food, wash the floor, clean the 09:22 toilets. And after a while he thought I can do better than 09:26 that. So he started to study. He said, I'm going to become a 09:31 captain. He studied so hard that by the time he was 26, he had 09:36 the title of master mariner. Very few people ever get that 09:41 title. He could sail anywhere in the world. He didn't use a GPS. 09:45 He had to use instruments to see where the sun was and the stars 09:49 so he could navigate. And he had such a tidy ship. One day he was 09:53 walking along and he saw a piece of paper on the deck. 09:57 And he thought, That's not good enough on my ship. He picked it 10:00 up. He was about to throw it away and he saw that it was 10:05 about the Bible and he read it and he gave his heart to Jesus. 10:09 From that moment he decided he was going to be a missionary. 10:13 Well he went back home and he married a girl who was older 10:20 and taller and stronger. But they were very happy. They 10:26 lived together for many, many years. Mr. and Mrs. Jones. And 10:32 he became Pastor Jones and when he got married he put on his 10:38 wedding certificate missionary instead of master mariner and 10:43 finally they said, you're not good at the jobs that you do 10:48 here because he worked in a health store and he had to give 10:52 somebody a massage and he looked on the packet of the 10:56 salts and it said rub the salt into their back. And he gave a 11:01 big man a bath and then he had to stand on a stool because he 11:06 was so short. How'd you like to have that rubbed in your back? 11:13 Pretty rough stuff. He started to rub and he started to glow 11:18 red all right and redder and redder until the man said, Hey 11:24 stop! So he knocked the container and there was salt 11:28 all over the ceiling and the walls and the floor and the boss 11:33 came in and said you're sacked. And so he became a master 11:37 mariner. He came out to the Pacific and they gave him his own 11:43 boat. And this is the Melanesia on the day that it was launched. 11:48 And if you look there you can't even see him, he's such a short 11:52 man. So they had to take another photo. And there he is, standing 11:58 there next to his wife. Pastor G. F. Jones or Captain Jones. In 12:04 fact, they loved him so much they called him Jonesey. 12:07 You know he went everywhere. No missionary ever sailed more 12:12 than Pastor Jones. One day in the Solomon's his wife got sick, 12:17 so sick with malaria that they said she's going to die. She was 12:22 unconscious. And while she was unconscious his heart was 12:25 breaking. He got a tape measure, she was lying on the bed and he 12:30 started to measure her. What do you think he was measuring her 12:35 for? Yes? A coffin. Certainly, it was a coffin. And then he 12:40 marked on the floor where he was going to take the wood and build 12:45 a coffin and he marked it with chalk. But you know, Mrs. Jones 12:49 got better and when she sat up and she looked at that on the 12:56 floor, she thought, that looks like a coffin. Well she gave him 13:01 a hard time over that and they laughed and laughed. But you 13:06 know they lived such a long time and no missionary ever did a 13:10 greater job. He could not get lost. He knew every reef, every 13:15 small island in the Pacific; Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, 13:19 New Guinea, Australia, he knew the whole lot. A wonderful 13:23 little man who became a giant for God. 13:26 Thank you boys and girls. 13:29 Hi boys and girls. Welcome to our Bible study. If you haven't 13:32 got your Bibles ready yet, go get them now so that you can 13:35 follow along with us. Matthew can you please say a prayer to 13:38 open our Bible study. 13:40 Dear Lord, thank you for loving us so much. Please help us to 13:44 understand the verses in the Bible as we read them in the 13:48 study today. Be with the children joining us at home. 13:52 In Jesus' name. Amen. 13:53 Amen. Thank you Matthew. So we're going to continue reading 13:56 the book of Joshua and today we're going to look at some very 14:00 interesting stories. Anna, can you start us off please and 14:05 start in Joshua 9:3-6. 14:07 But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had 14:13 to Jericho and Ai, they worked craftily and pretended to be 14:19 ambassadors. And they took old sacks on their donkeys, old wine 14:24 skins torn and mended, old and patched sandals on their feet 14:29 and old garments on themselves; and all the bread of their 14:33 provision was dry and moldy. And they went to Joshua, to the 14:39 camp at Gilgal and said to him and to the men of Israel, We 14:44 have come from a far country. Now, therefore, make a covenant 14:49 with us. 14:51 Mmm. Thanks Anna. So the Gibeonites were a group of 14:54 people living in the land of Canaan. They were spread across 14:58 four cities. One of them was a great royal city called the City 15:03 of Gibeon. So a group of men dressed themselves up in old, 15:07 tattered clothes, took provisions that were moldy to 15:12 give the illusion that they'd come from a faraway place. 15:16 Verse 6 tells us, that Anna just read, they wanted to make a 15:20 covenant or a peace treaty with Joshua so he wouldn't harm their 15:25 cities. Matthew can you please read Joshua 9:7-9 and let's see 15:29 what happens. 15:31 Then the men of Israel said to the Hivites, Perhaps you dwell 15:35 among us; so how can we make a covenant with you? But they 15:39 said to Joshua, We are your servants and Joshua said to them 15:42 Who are you and where do you come from? So then said to him, 15:45 From a very far country, your servants have come because of 15:49 the name of the Lord your God for we have heard of His fame 15:52 and all that He did in Egypt. 15:54 Thanks Matthew. So upon further questioning by both the 15:58 Israelites and Joshua, the Gibeonites deny that they are 16:02 from Canaan. In Deuteronomy 7:2 God had warned, through 16:06 Moses, that when the Israelites came into the land of Canaan 16:12 they were not to make any covenants with the Canaanites 16:15 because God knew that this would lead to idol worship and 16:19 spiritual decline. The Gibeonites knew this 16:23 and they lied and they said they came from a land far beyond 16:28 Canaan. Bethany, can you please read Joshua 9:14-16. 16:32 Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions but 16:37 they did not ask counsel of the Lord. So Joshua made peace with 16:41 them and made a covenant with them to let them live. And the 16:44 rulers of the congregation swore to them. And it happened at the 16:47 end of three days after they made a covenant with them that 16:51 they heard that they were their neighbors who dwelt near them. 16:56 Okay, so Joshua made an unwise decision. He didn't consult God. 17:00 He went ahead and made a peace treaty with the Gibeonites 17:04 believing their lie. How many days later did they find out? 17:09 Three. Three days later. Even though the Gibeonites had got 17:13 their peace treaty through lying because Joshua had made an oath 17:17 or a promise in the presence of the Lord, they could not reverse 17:21 the treaty. Let's see what happens next. Caleb can you 17:25 please read Joshua 10:3-4. 17:27 Therefore, Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Horan king of 17:36 Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish and Debir 17:43 king of Eglon saying, Come up to me and help me that we may 17:49 attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the 17:54 children of Israel. 17:56 Thanks Caleb. You did well, some of those names are a bit tricky 17:59 aren't they. So there were five kings that had declared to go 18:03 up and make war with the Gibeonites for making a peace 18:06 treaty with the Israelites. So even though the Gibeonites had 18:10 secured the peace treaty by lying, they had given up their 18:13 idol worship and agreed to worship the Israelites' God. 18:16 Therefore, Joshua had to honor the covenant he made with them 18:21 and go to the Gibeonites rescue. This time Joshua consulted God. 18:25 Do you think that's a good idea? Yes. Always good to consult God 18:28 first. And we have just read in verse eight that God promised 18:31 to be with Joshua and win the battle for them. They marched 18:35 all night and arrived in the morning. Let's see what God does 18:40 Auntie Cecily can you read Joshua 10:11 please. 18:42 And it happened as they fled before Israel and were on the 18:47 descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hail stones 18:52 from heaven on them as far as Azekah and they died. There were 18:57 more who died from the hail stones than the children of 19:01 Israel killed with the sword. 19:02 Oh, so God sent a very big hail storm to fall on the enemy, but 19:08 something happened. Anna, can you please read Joshua 10:12-13. 19:12 Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered 19:17 up the Amorites before the children of Israel. And he said 19:21 in the sight of Israel, Sun stand still over the Gibeon and 19:23 moon in the valley of Aijalon. So the sun stood still and the 19:30 moon stopped till the people had revenge upon their enemies. 19:34 Is this not written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood 19:38 stood still in the midst of heaven and did not hasten to go 19:41 down for about a whole day. 19:44 Thank you. So Joshua knew he needed more time to fight the 19:49 enemy. So he prayed and he asked God to lengthen the day 19:55 by keeping the sun from going down and God answered his 20:00 prayer. Verse 14 tells us it's the only time in history that 20:04 it's the only time in history that God has heeded a man's 20:08 voice and allowed the sun to stand still. Isn't that awesome? 20:11 Now if we were to continue reading the Bible, it tells us 20:14 that many areas in Canaan were conquered for the children of 20:19 Israel. By this time, Joshua was old and God wanted Joshua to 20:23 divide the land amongst the Israelites and it was up to them 20:27 to subdue the land in their territory. Now we have a big map 20:30 here and it shows us who got what portion of the land. 20:35 I might get you to point to a few Cecily. We've got Simeon 20:39 down in the bottom, the purple area. We've got Judah; that 20:44 tribe had quite a large area. We've got Dan and Benjamin and 20:48 Ephraim. Now the green bit above is actually the tribe of 20:52 Manasseh and the tribe of Manasseh had two areas, one on 20:57 one side of the Jordan, yeah over there, thanks Cecily and 21:01 then one back over into the main area. Thank you. And then 21:05 We've got Issachar, Zebulon, Asher and Naphtali and then on 21:09 the other side of the Jordan, the east side, we've got the 21:13 other half tribe of Manasseh, Gad and Reuben. Okay. Now do you 21:18 remember there were two spies all those years before that gave 21:22 a good report. Can you remember who they were, Anna? 21:24 Joshua and Caleb. 21:26 Yes it was and after the dividing of all that land that 21:30 you see there, Caleb came to Joshua to claim the land that 21:34 God promised. Matthew, can you please read Joshua 14:12-13. 21:40 Now, therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke 21:45 in that; for you heard in that day how the Anakin were there 21:50 and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that 21:55 the Lord will be with me and I shall be able to drive them out 22:00 as the Lord said. And Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to 22:04 Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. 22:08 Wow. So Caleb wanted the mountain that the 10 spies said 22:12 couldn't be conquered all those years before because of the 22:16 giants. And we're going to talk a bit about more giants later 22:21 on. Caleb was now 85 years old and he wanted the town of Hebron 22:25 to show with God's strength he and his tribe could conquer 22:30 those giants. What faith he had. Aunt Cecily can you please show 22:35 us where the town of Hebron is that Caleb wanted as his 22:39 in heritance. Right there. Thank you. Okay. Now Bethany can you 22:42 please read Joshua 19:49-50. 22:46 When they had made an end of dividing the land as an 22:50 inheritance according to their borders, the children of Israel 22:54 gave an inheritance among them to Joshua the son of Nun. 22:57 According to the word of the Lord they gave him the city 23:00 which he asked for, Timnath- Serah, in the mountains of 23:03 Ephraim. And he built the city and dwelt in it. 23:06 So this was the city that Joshua received. Let's have a look at 23:10 our Torch Light, Mrs. White's writings, to see what they shine 23:13 on the verse. Kate can you please read that for us. 23:19 To him, as to Caleb, a special promise of inheritance had been 23:22 given, yet he asked for no extensive province, but only a 23:26 single city. They gave him the city which he asked,... and he 23:30 he built the city and dwelt therein. The name given to the 23:35 city was Timnath-serah, the portion that remains,-a standing 23:40 testimony to the noble character and unselfish spirit of the 23:45 conqueror, who, instead of being the first to appropriate the 23:51 spoils of conquest, deferred his claim until the humblest of his 23:57 people had been served. 24:00 Thanks Kate. So Joshua received his portion with a humble spirit 24:04 and this shows his character of a true leader. Now Aunt 24:08 Cecily I'm just going to get you to show the children where that 24:13 is, Timnath-serah. That's where his claim was there. Now if we 24:17 were to continue reading the book of Joshua he, like Moses, 24:21 warned the children of Israel to be faithful to the 24:25 commandments. J J can you read Joshua 24:29 please. 24:30 Now it came to pass after these things that Joshua the son of 24:34 Nun, the servant of the Lord, died being one-hundred and ten 24:39 years old. 24:40 Wow. So Joshua lived a long and full life didn't he? We're going 24:44 do to our memory verse found in Deuteronomy 10:20 and we're 24:50 going to read that together. You've all got it there. 24:55 You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and to 25:01 Him you shall hold fast and take oaths in his name. 25:08 Thank you so much. So that's a good verse for us to claim 25:12 isn't it? Just like Joshua we can also choose to serve God. 25:15 Thank you boys and girls for reading along with us. We have 25:18 a devotional available that goes into more depth on what we 25:21 studied today. Here's how you can get that. 25:24 Hey boys and girls, like Auntie Nat said you can download our 25:29 devotionals free from our website at 25:32 www.adaywiththeking.com 25:36 Hey Nick don't forget about Teddy. 25:37 Oh yes. Auntie Nat can you tell us what we're going to study about 26:00 next week? 26:02 Yes, next Sabbath we're going to study about a man who tests God. 26:05 I wonder if you can work out what that is. I'll give you a 26:08 clue. Have a look at the book of Judges. Come back next week 26:12 and we'll study that together. Aunt Cecily shall go over our 26:15 memory verse that we learnt in our Bible study today. 26:17 Yes. Boys and girls, are you ready to do that? 26:20 Deuteronomy 10:20-You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall 26:28 serve Him and to him you shall hold fast. 26:32 Auntie Nat, we've learned a lot today, but our time's almost 26:36 gone. 26:37 Yes, our worship time always goes by so quickly. Matthew 26:40 what did you learn about the King today? 26:43 That praying to Jesus keeps us close to Him. 26:46 Yes it certainly does. It's a good thing to remember. Aunt 26:49 Cecily are you ready to sing our good bye song? 26:53 Yes. Are you ready children? Let's turn around and sing to 26:55 the boys and girls at home. 26:58 ¤May God bless you and keep you and fill your heart with love¤ 27:12 ¤May God guide and protect you and watch you from above¤ 27:25 ¤The day the King of glory has sanctified and blessed¤ 27:41 ¤Good bye my friends till we meet again¤ 27:48 ¤For another day with the King¤ 27:54 Good bye, good bye. See you next Sabbath. 27:58 ¤ ¤ |
