00:01 Hello there. Happy Sabbath.
00:03 Come on in. We're about to meet with the King.
00:05 ¤ ¤
00:53 Hello everyone. Hello Auntie Nat
00:55 Hello Auntie Cecily. Are you
00:57 excited about our worship time today?
00:59 I am and I know the children are
01:01 excited too about all the boys and girls from all around the
01:04 world who have joined us, aren't you? Yes. Yes. Now Auntie
01:08 Nat I know you want to send a big hello to some people who are
01:11 watching our program each week.
01:13 Yes. A little bird has told me that there are people watching
01:16 us in England. Oh hello.
01:19 If you are watching us from England or anywhere else in the
01:22 United Kingdom send us an e-mail to dwk@3abnaustralia. org. au to
01:25 say hello. We would love to hear from you. Our address is
01:28 dwk@3abnaustralia. org. au.
01:30 Auntie Nat. It's so good to have an extended lounge room where
01:34 we have children from all around the world joining us. Speaking
01:38 about hello, hello Teddy. How are you? Wouldn't know his
01:41 his floppy ears. They actually have to have help to sit up
01:45 don't they? Kate would you like to say a prayer for us before
01:49 we commence our worship time together.
01:52 Dear Jesus, thank you for the Sabbath. Please be with us while
01:56 we're studying and thank you for bringing us safely through
02:00 the week. In Jesus' name. Amen.
02:02 Amen. Thank you Kate. Auntie Nat how was your week?
02:06 Well I've had a really busy week in my garden, but I am glad that
02:12 the Sabbath is here and I so enjoy it because we can rest.
02:16 Yes. It's great to just stop and set aside our regular work and
02:21 spend some time with the Lord isn't it?
02:25 Aunt Cecily, I'm glad it's Sabbath because we don't have
02:28 to do any homework.
02:30 (Chuckles) That is a blessing isn't it. And speaking of
02:34 blessings, we have our blessing box here. Ruth would you like
02:38 to open our blessing box and tell us a way that we can bless
02:42 somebody during the Sabbath?
02:44 Take some friends and sing to the residents at a nursing home.
02:51 Oh isn't that a lovely thing to do. Wow. Thank you. And you know
02:57 if you had a musical instrument you could all come together with
03:02 your choir and musical instruments and you could
03:04 have a concert, couldn't you? Do you have a musical talent
03:08 that you could share with someone to tell them about
03:11 Jesus? What are your favorite songs about Jesus that you like
03:15 to sing or play on a musical instrument? And if you feel that
03:19 you can't sing or play a musical instrument, you could
03:22 always tell a poem or read a Bible verse to the people in the
03:27 nursing home, couldn't you? Ruth what do you like to play
03:30 or sing?
03:32 Well I like to play _good on the piano.
03:37 Oh so you're a pianist. Lovely. That sounds great. Wouldn't it
03:42 be a blessing to be able to share that with some other
03:46 people. Yes. We can just show them how much God loves them.
03:50 Sometimes a song Auntie Cecily about Jesus can be very
03:53 powerful and touch someone that a sermon or words can't.
03:55 Yes that's true.
03:58 Now Auntie Cecily you've been sharing with us some amazing
04:01 blessings about Jesus and his second coming. Would you like
04:03 to tell us about that today?
04:04 Yes, sure. Do you remember our discussion about the coming of
04:09 Jesus and how it's going to be a very noisy event. We've learned
04:14 that no one's going to miss it. Now later in our Bible story
04:18 we're going to learn about a young lady named Ruth. We'll
04:23 follow her mother-in-law Naomi back to Canaan. Ruth loved Naomi
04:28 and she decided that Naomi's God was worth following. Just like
04:33 Ruth, if we love Jesus, we won't be afraid to follow Him either.
04:38 When Jesus comes with great power and glory and all the
04:43 noise, we won't need to be afraid if we love Him with all
04:48 our hearts. God will protect us and keep us safe. We're told
04:54 in Revelation 6:15-17 that those who don't love Jesus will want
04:59 the rocks to fall on them and hide them. But Isaiah 25:9 tells
05:04 us that those who love Jesus will receive Him with gladness
05:09 and joy meaning we'll be so happy to see him we won't be
05:13 afraid. Remember
05:15 to believe and claim the promises in the Bible and
05:19 prepare your hearts for Jesus' return.
05:23 Thanks Auntie Cecily for sharing that with us. I am so looking
05:26 forward to when Jesus comes to take us back home. And I can see
05:29 that Pastor Rick has joined us again. Thank you Pastor Rick.
05:32 You're such a blessing to us. Thank you for joining us again.
05:35 So glad to be here again playing
05:37 music and praising God. And I understand you're learning about
05:42 Ruth from the Bible. We have a song about Ruth.
06:28 Pastor Rick, can we please sing When the Way is Rough and Steep?
06:34 That's a great song and it's a song that moves along pretty
06:37 fast. It goes like this.
07:09 Sing it again.
07:37 Pastor Rick, can we please sing Redeemed?
07:40 Aw, that's a beautiful song, Bethany. Thanks for choosing
07:43 that one.
08:51 Thanks Pastor Rick. We always enjoy having a sing along
08:54 with you. Now it's story time again with Dr. John. Wonder what
08:59 he has for us today?
09:02 Hello boys and girls. I'm Dr. John and welcome to story
09:06 time and welcome to boys and girls everywhere who are
09:10 watching and listening. A little boy was born in the Solomon
09:15 Islands. He was as black as black as his father who was a
09:21 cannibal who had given it up and he said this little boy I'm
09:26 going to call him No Strings because they used to have these
09:32 special strings made from vines and the devil used to tie them
09:37 to himself with the strings and so he was called No Strings
09:44 which we know as Cata Arangaso And he grew up to be a fine boy
09:50 and well educated. You probably don't know what he's doing there
09:56 and it's what we call a computer in the 1920s, a typewriter. He
10:02 learned to type and he finally became a pastor. Can you see his
10:07 kind face? And he became a leader. And during the war a
10:13 nasty officer, Officer Thomas, came to his village and he said
10:19 Cata, Cata Arangaso, we want to come here and use your school
10:24 house tomorrow and we're going to have a trial for some
10:29 Japanese prisoners and we want you to be the translator. Oh sir
10:34 you can do it today, you can do it the day after tomorrow but
10:39 tomorrow is Sabbath. Hah, Sabbath. You will be there
10:47 you will translate or else. He said Sir, I'm sorry. He stood up
10:54 tall, he looked him in the face, I serve God and tomorrow is his
11:00 Sabbath. We'll see about that. He took him and he laid him over
11:08 a big 44 gallon drum and he ordered the soldiers to flog him
11:13 until the blood poured out. And then he said now will you
11:19 interpret, now will you open your school tomorrow. He said
11:26 sir I serve God. God first and you second. Right I will shoot
11:33 you. They took him and they tied him to a coconut tree and they
11:40 lined up the soldiers with their rifles and Officer Thomas
11:46 said I will count one, two three and when I say three, you
11:51 shoot and get him in the heart. And Cata thought this was his
11:59 last day on earth. And he stood there and the officer said one,
12:06 two, (lips moving), no sound came out. Uh-hum_.
12:14 I'll do it again. One, two, (lips moving). He had the wrong
12:22 time. He didn't talk for two days and they threw him in
12:27 jail. And he was there with a sore back, so frightened
12:33 because he'd almost been shot. And a tall man with a set of
12:39 who walked right through the gate up to the prison, opened
12:45 the door and said Cata Arangaso. Wake up. Cata jumped up. Oh who
12:50 are you. Come with me. Unlocked the door, took him out, took him
12:55 down the path down to the lagoon There was a canoe. He said,
13:00 Start paddling and go. And off he went. You know they never
13:06 ever saw that man again. He was an angel. The keys had stayed
13:11 next to Officer Thomas all night You know Cata was more than
13:17 brave. He saved the lives of 214 airmen whose planes had crashed.
13:22 And if you go to the museum here in Couranbong, I'll read it for
13:28 you. Air Force Association, California Wing, citation of
13:32 merit to Cata Arangaso for bravery in leading over 200
13:37 Allied Soldiers to safety through enemy lines.
13:43 And Cata he went all over the world telling his story and I
13:48 got this yesterday and I polished it up because it is a
13:52 tribute to a very important man. Pastor Cata Arangaso became one
13:58 of the greatest missionaries in the entire Pacific Ocean.
14:03 Thank you boys and girls.
14:04 Hi boys and girls. Welcome to our Bible study. If you haven't
14:08 got your Bibles ready yet, go get them now so you can follow
14:12 along with us. Bethany, can you please say a prayer for us?
14:16 Yeah. Dear Father, please send your Holy Spirit to us so we can
14:20 understand what we are reading in Your word. We love you Lord,
14:24 we surrender our hearts to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
14:27 Amen. Now Kate there was a character in the Bible that we
14:31 studied about last Sabbath. Who was that? Samson. Samson. And
14:34 did he live a life that God intended him to live? Nope.
14:37 No, he didn't. But eventually God got his heart so in the end
14:42 it turned out okay. Today we're going to look at a new book in
14:47 the Bible, the book of Ruth. And we're going to start our
14:50 reading off with you Anna. Can you please start in Ruth 1:1-2.
14:55 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled that there
14:59 was a famine in the land and a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah,
15:03 went to dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his
15:07 two sons. The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his
15:11 wife was Naomi and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and
15:15 Chilion-Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. And they went to the
15:20 country of Moab and remained there.
15:21 Thanks Anna. So we have this family who were living in
15:26 Bethlehem, Judah and because of a famine they decide to leave
15:29 Judah and go to Moab. Now Aunt Cecily can you show us that on
15:33 the map please. There's Bethlehem there and we think
15:36 that they probably went that way and down into Moab. Thank you.
15:42 Okay. Let's continue reading. Matthew can you please read
15:45 Ruth 1:3.
15:46 Then Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died, and she was left, and her
15:51 Mmm. And we don't know when this happened, whether it was just
15:56 soon as they arrived or a little time later. Let's see what
16:00 happens next. Bethany, can you read Ruth 1:4.
16:05 Now they took wives of the women of Moab; the name of the
16:10 one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth and they dwelt
16:14 there about 10 years.
16:16 Mmm. So after Elimelech dies Naomi and his sons choose to
16:20 stay in Moab. They don't go home they choose to stay and they
16:24 stay for 10 years and they married Moabite women. Okay,
16:29 Kate, can you please read Ruth 1:5.
16:30 Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died; so the woman survived
16:35 her two sons and her husband.
16:37 Thanks Kate. So has Naomi had a good time in Moab? No, she
16:42 hasn't. She's lost her husband and she's lost her two sons. But
16:47 you know what? Naomi finds out that the famine in Bethlehem is
16:51 over and she wants to return. So not long into their journey
16:55 Naomi decides that it would better if her daughters-in-laws
16:59 stayed in their own country and then they'd be free to marry
17:02 again. J J can you please read Ruth 1:14-15.
17:09 Then they lifted up their voices and wept again and Orpah kissed
17:13 her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her and she said, Look
17:20 your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods.
17:27 Return after your sister-in-law.
17:28 Thanks J J. So Orpah chooses to stay in her country but Ruth
17:33 doesn't want to stay in Moab. Let's continue reading and see
17:39 what she says. Aunt Cecily can you please Ruth 1:16-17.
17:43 But Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave you or to turn back
17:49 from following after you. For wherever you go I will go and
17:53 wherever you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people,
18:00 and your God my God. Where you die I will die and there will I be
18:05 buried. The Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death
18:10 parts you and me.
18:13 Ruth showed great faith and reached out and believed Naomi's
18:18 God. Anna, can you please read Ruth 1:19.
18:21 Now the two of them went until they came to Bethlehem and it
18:25 happened when they had come to Bethlehem that all the city was
18:30 excited because of them and the women said, Is this Naomi?
18:34 Mmm. So we're happy to have Naomi back. Yes. They were,
18:38 weren't they. And they arrived at harvest time. Okay, Matthew
18:44 can you please read Ruth 2:3-5.
18:48 Then she left and went and gleaned in the field after the
18:50 reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field
18:54 that belonged to Boaz who was of the family of Elimelech. Now
18:58 behold Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, The
19:01 Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless
19:05 you. Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the
19:09 reapers, Whose young woman is this?
19:14 Mmm. So Ruth decides, with Naomi's permission, to go and
19:17 find some grain in someone's field. Boaz turns up at his
19:20 property to see how his reapers and harvesters are going and
19:24 notices a strange woman in his field and wonders who it is.
19:28 Bethany, can you please read Ruth 2:6-7.
19:34 So the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered and said
19:36 It is the young Moabite woman who came back with Naomi from
19:40 the country of Moab. And she said, Please let me glean and
19:43 gather after the reapers among the sheaves. So she came and has
19:47 continued from morning until now, though she rested a little
19:50 in the house.
19:51 Mmm. So let's see what Boaz says to her. Kate, can you read
19:54 Ruth 2:8-9 please.
19:56 Then Boaz said to Ruth, You will listen, my daughter, will
20:02 not? Do not go to glean in another field, nor go from here,
20:07 but stay close by my women. Let your eyes be on the field which
20:11 they reap and go after them. Have I not commanded the young
20:17 men not to touch you and when you are thirsty go to the
20:20 vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn.
20:24 Thanks Kate. So Boaz wants to make sure that Ruth is safe and
20:29 wants her to come to his field only so he can make sure that
20:34 she's not harmed. Caleb, can you read Ruth 2:10-12?
20:38 So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground and said to
20:43 him, Why have I found favor in your eyes that you should take
20:47 notice of me since I am a foreigner. And Boaz answered and
20:52 said to her, It has been fully reported to me all that you have
20:57 done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband
21:01 and how you have left your father and your mother and the
21:05 land of your birth and have come to a people whom you did
21:10 not know before. The Lord repay your work and a full reward be
21:15 given you by the Lord God of Israel. Under His wings you have
21:20 come for refuge.
21:21 Thanks Caleb. So Ruth's kindness to her mother-in-law and the
21:26 sacrifice that she made in leaving her old life behind and
21:30 in following Naomi's God was very well known in Bethlehem.
21:33 God wants people just like Ruth to come to the knowledge of Him.
21:38 Let's look at our Torch Light that Mrs. White shines some
21:42 light on this verse that we've read. Thanks Auntie Cecily.
21:46 No distinction on account of
21:49 nationality, race or caste is
21:53 recognized by God. He is the maker of all mankind. All men
21:59 are of one family by creation and all are one through
22:04 redemption. Christ came to demolish every wall of petition
22:07 to through open every compartment of the temple
22:12 courts that every soul may have free access to God. His love is
22:18 so broad, so deep, so full that it penetrates every way. It
22:24 lifts out of Satan's influence those who have been deluded by
22:28 his deceptions and places them within reach of the throne of
22:34 God, the throne encircled by the rainbow of promise. In Christ
22:39 there is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free.
22:43 Wow. Thanks Auntie Cecily. God is so good! We're all going
22:46 read our memory verse together. Can you all go back to Ruth 1:16
22:50 Let's read that together.
22:52 For wherever you go I will go, and wherever you lodge I will
22:59 lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God.
23:05 So Ruth chose by faith to believe in God. Let's find out
23:10 what happens next in the story. Now Naomi wanted to do a bit
23:15 of matchmaking and secure Ruth's future. Let's read what she does
23:20 Matthew, can you read Ruth 2:3-5 for us please.
23:25 Now Boaz, whose young women you were with, is he not our
23:31 relative? In fact he's winnowing barley today at the threshing
23:35 floor. Therefore, wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your
23:39 best garment and go down to the threshing floor. But do not
23:42 make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and
23:45 drinking. Then it shall be that when he lies down that you shall
23:49 notice the place where he lies. You shall go in, uncover his
23:52 feet and lie down and he will tell you what you should do.
23:55 And she said to her, All that you say to me, I will do.
24:00 Mmm. So Ruth did what her mother-in-law instructed and
24:04 let's see what happens next. Bethany, you're going to read
24:07 Ruth 3:8-11.
24:08 Now it happened at midnight that the man was startled and turned
24:12 himself and there a woman was lying at his feet. And he said,
24:16 Who are you? So she answered. I am Ruth your maidservant. Take
24:20 your maidservant under your wing for you are a close relative.
24:24 Then he said, Blessed are you of the Lord, my daughter, for you
24:27 have showed more kindness at the end that at the beginning in
24:31 that you did not go after young men, whether poor or rich. And
24:35 now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you
24:38 you request for all the people of my town know that you are
24:41 a virtuous woman.
24:42 Mmm. So really Ruth proposes to Boaz and if we were to read
24:46 chapter four of Ruth, it tells us that Boaz had to do a bit of
24:50 negotiation with the elders of the town, but Boaz sorts it all
24:54 out and Boaz marries Ruth and they have a baby and they
24:59 call him Obed who was the grandfather of David. Naomi is
25:04 blessed as her sadness of losing her husband and her sons is
25:08 then turned to joy as she celebrates the birth of her
25:11 grandson. Thank you boys and girls for reading along with us.
25:14 We have a devotional available that goes into more depth than
25:17 what we studied today. Here's how you can get that.
25:21 Hey boys and girls. Like Auntie Nat said, you can download our
25:26 devotional free from our website at www.adaywiththeking.com
25:31 Hey Nick, don't forget about Teddy.
25:33 Oh yes. While you're there you can visit Teddy's blog. He's
25:37 posted some videos of his intense training for the show.
25:41 Boys and girls, we want to hear from you.
25:43 Send us an e-mail at dwk@3abnaustralia.org.au
25:45 on how you're enjoying the show. So hop online today.
25:48 Thanks Sarah and Nick. Yes, we'd love to hear from you. Auntie
25:52 Nat can you tell us what we're going to study about next week?
25:56 Yes. Next Sabbath we're going to study about a little boy who
26:00 loved God with all his heart. I wonder if you can work out who
26:04 that is. We look forward to studying that with you next week
26:07 Aunt Cecily shall we go over our memory verse that we learned
26:09 today in our Bible study.
26:12 Yes, let's do that. Are you ready children?
26:13 Let's read together.
26:31 Guess what, Auntie Nat. Worship time's nearly over again.
26:35 What, already? Our time goes by so quickly. Caleb, what did you
26:39 learn today about the King?
26:41 I learnt that Jesus will protect us and keep us safe.
26:43 Yes He certainly will. All we have to do is give our heart
26:46 to Jesus. Aunt Cecily can we sing our blessing song to the
26:50 children at home.
26:51 Yes, that's a great idea. Do you want to turn around girls
26:53 and boys and we can sing the song.
26:57 ¤May God bless you and keep you and fill your heart with love¤
27:11 ¤May God guide and protect you and watch you from above¤
27:21 ¤As Sabbath after Sabbath we greet the day of rest¤
27:32 ¤The day the King of glory has sanctified and blessed¤
27:42 ¤Good bye my friends till we meet again¤
27:46 ¤For another day with the King¤
27:52 Good bye. See you again next Sabbath.
