00:02 Hello there! Happy Sabbath!
00:04 Come on in, we're about to meet with the King! 00:53 Good day, I'm Aunty Nat, and I'm Aunty Cecily! 00:57 We're so glad you've decided to join us 00:59 in our worship time with the King, aren't we kids? YES! 01:03 Aunt Cecily, I know you have someone to say "hello" to 01:06 who has been watching our program. 01:07 Yes, I'd like to say "hello" to Cohen and Elijah 01:11 from New South Wales, Australia, 01:13 and I know they love watching "A Day With The King" 01:15 And you know, they even visited us here at 3ABN. 01:20 Hello! Hello! Hey! 01:22 It's so good that so many of you are 01:24 joining us in worshipping the King! 01:27 Isn't it good, our virtual lounge room is getting bigger! 01:30 Aunty Nat, I think we're going to need 01:32 a bigger lounge room soon. 01:34 Well that's the miracle of technology, there will always 01:37 be enough room for more children to join us 01:40 from around the world. 01:41 Aunty Nat, don't forget to welcome Teddy! 01:43 Ohh, we can't forget to welcome Teddy, but you know, 01:45 he's so easy to forget because he's so quiet. 01:48 Kalie, can you please say a prayer for us 01:50 to welcome in the Sabbath? Yes. 01:53 Dear Jesus... Thank You for this wonderful day and thank You 01:59 that we all can be here today. Amen, Amen! 02:03 Thank you Kalie. 02:04 How's your week been Aunty Cecily? 02:06 I made some new friends this week and I'm really 02:09 looking forward to meeting them some more 02:12 and getting to know them better. 02:14 But I always love coming to the Sabbath because 02:16 I get to know the Lord better on the Sabbath. 02:19 Yeah, I'm so happy the Sabbath is here so that we can just 02:22 stop and take some time out to get to know God, 02:26 but do you know what else we can do on the Sabbath? 02:28 We can share blessings with people on the Sabbath. 02:31 And we've got our blessing box here and Jireh is going to 02:35 open it and tell us something that we can do for someone else. 02:39 Study the Bible with some friends. 02:42 Wow, and do you know what? 02:43 That would be a good opportunity to involve 02:45 friends who don't know Jesus. 02:47 Can you think of some people who may want to learn 02:50 more about Jesus through studying the Bible? 02:53 Jireh, can you think of someone who can help you 02:55 study the Bible with your friends? My dad! 02:58 Oh, that's such a good idea! 03:00 You know, sometimes we need people to help us 03:03 to get started so that we can get the confidence to do that. 03:06 Aunt Cecily, I know you've been sharing some beautiful 03:09 blessings with us about the second coming of Jesus, 03:11 can you tell us one more? Yes, I can. 03:13 Do you remember our talk about Satan pretending to be Jesus? 03:18 He wants to deceive us into thinking that he is Jesus. 03:23 Later in our Bible story, we'll discover that the Israelites 03:27 were deceived into thinking that they knew better than God! 03:31 They wanted a king but that was not God's plan. 03:35 I want to tell you another way that we can be deceived 03:38 in the last days. 03:40 We've been talking about the second coming of Jesus, 03:43 but we don't actually know when He's going to come. 03:47 Mark 13:32-33 says... "But of that day and hour, 03:54 no one knows; not even the angels in heaven, 03:58 nor the Son, but only the Father. 04:02 Take heed, watch and pray for you do not know 04:06 when the time is." 04:07 So only God the Father knows when Jesus is 04:11 coming back to take us home. 04:13 Matthew 25:13 says... "Watch therefore, for you know 04:18 neither the day nor the hour 04:21 in which the Son of Man is coming." 04:24 So Jesus is telling us to watch and pray. 04:28 We may not know the date, but Jesus has given us 04:31 some signs that we can know when the time is near, 04:34 and you can read about that in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. 04:41 You can look that up in your Bibles. 04:44 If you hear on the news or someone tells you the 04:47 date that Jesus is going to return, don't believe them. 04:51 We have just read the verses from the Bible that say 04:55 only God knows. 04:56 So trust and believe in God's promises. 04:59 Ah, thanks Aunty Cecily! 05:01 Jesus really wants us to watch and pray and study our Bibles 05:05 so we don't get confused about when Jesus is going to come. 05:09 Do you know what? 05:11 I think Pastor Rick is over there. 05:12 Thanks, Pastor Rick, for joining us! 05:15 Lovely as always to be with everyone, especially 05:19 singing praises and songs to Jesus and our first 05:21 song I'd like us to sing is, "Happiness is the Lord." 06:40 Pastor Rick, can we please sing, "Every day With Jesus." 06:43 "Every day With Jesus," what a wonderful thought kids 06:46 if we'd spent every day with Jesus, 06:49 how special would that be? Beautiful! 06:51 So we're going to sing this through twice. 07:59 Pastor Rick, can we sing "Standing on the Promises?" 08:03 I think that's a lovely song! 08:04 All of the songs we sing are really good songs, 08:06 but this is special because it's talking about the promises 08:09 that God gives us and you can be sure to stand on them. 08:12 And it moves along a bit! 08:53 Thanks Pastor Rick, that was really enjoyable! 08:55 We've been talking a lot in our worships about 08:58 believing God's promises - just like our last song said. 09:02 And now it's time to catch up with Dr. John and enjoy 09:05 another one of his VERY interesting stories. 09:09 Hello boys and girls, I'm Dr. John and welcome to story time, 09:14 and to all the boys and girls watching - we're really 09:17 glad to have you too. 09:20 I'm going to ask you a question, first of all to the boys... 09:24 Put your hand up, be honest, if you have a girlfriend. 09:30 Oh girls, put your hand up if you have a boyfriend. 09:36 I think I know why... because you're only about 9, 10, 11. 09:44 Another 10 years from now and you'll be very interested 09:49 in wondering who you're going to marry. 09:53 You know, when I grew up, I knew a boy who never 09:58 met his wife until the day they got married, 10:02 but I had seen her. 10:05 He wasn't allowed to see her because it was called 10:09 "an arranged marriage," and he used to wonder, 10:13 "What does she look like? Is she fair? Is she fat? 10:18 Is she thin? Is she smart? Is she dumb? 10:21 Can she cook?" 10:22 And he used to come to us and he used to say, "What does my 10:27 wife-to-be look like?" 10:31 We were very naughty. 10:33 We said, "She's got a big wart on the end of her nose." 10:37 Laughter from children. 10:39 "Really?" And she's got ears like an elephant." "Oh no!" 10:44 "And a great big beak." He was so worried. 10:48 And the day he saw her, she was so beautiful, 10:52 and he looked at us to say... "You rats! 10:56 You told us all the wrong things." 10:59 You know when I first met my wife, who was to become 11:03 Mrs. Hammond, I saw her and I thought, "You are so 11:07 beautiful and I'm gonna change your name to Mrs. Hammond," 11:12 and I did! 11:13 And when I asked her to marry me, she said, "Yes," 11:18 of course she would. 11:21 What do you arrange when you're going to have a marriage? 11:25 What's the first thing? 11:29 The date, and the next thing? The church. 11:36 Obviously you girls and boys have never been married before. 11:40 And then who is the pastor who is going to marry you. 11:44 And you arrange all these things. 11:46 Well, I want to tell you about "Natonga and Nai," 11:51 and they lived in this village, on this island of Bellona 11:56 in the Solomon Islands and they fell in love, 11:59 and they wanted to get married, but there was a problem. 12:04 There was a church; they had all their friends; 12:08 they were old enough; they loved each other; 12:12 he was handsome; she was pretty... there was one problem. 12:16 The war was on and all the pastors had gone away. 12:22 And they said, "Oh, we really want to get married, 12:25 please, what are we going to do?" 12:27 And they would hold hands and look at each other and say, 12:31 "We're going to get married, who is going to marry us?" 12:35 Until Natonga had a brilliant idea - he said, "I know 12:41 what to do, Nai... and he got the church; they brought all 12:45 the flowers and they got all the visitors to dress up 12:49 in their best clothes and they went into the church, 12:54 and there was no pastor and you know what Natonga said to Nai? 13:00 The pastor is here, Jesus is going to marry us. 13:05 And they said, "That's a good idea." Shhhh 13:10 And they all knelt down in the front of the church, 13:13 they knelt on the cushions and everybody was sitting there; 13:17 all the flowers were in the window along the aisle, 13:20 and they shut their eyes and Natonga said, in a loud voice, 13:25 "Jesus, I hope You are listening, I hope You are here 13:30 with us and we want you to marry us and while our eyes 13:35 are shut and our heads are bowed, please marry us," 13:40 and everybody shut their eyes. 13:42 And when they opened their eyes, Natonga said, "Ladies and 13:48 gentleman, we are now married." 13:53 And everybody clapped and gave them a round of applause, 13:56 and they had a big party. 13:57 And when they were all finished and the missionary came back, 14:01 he said, "Are you married?" 14:03 "Oh yes, we're married and here's our little baby 14:07 because Jesus married us." 14:09 And that was the happiest marriage you have ever seen. 14:13 Thank you boys and girls. 14:16 Hi boys and girls, welcome to our Bible study. 14:18 If you haven't got your Bibles ready yet, 14:20 go get them now so you can follow along with us. 14:23 Matthew, you're going to say a prayer for us, 14:26 can you please pray? 14:29 "Dear Father... Thank You for loving us so much! 14:32 Thank You for Your word where we can learn more 14:34 about You and what You have done for us. 14:37 Be with the children at home who are watching right now. 14:39 In Jesus name... Amen, Amen! Thank you Matthew. 14:43 Now Caleb, we studied something very interesting last week. 14:47 We studied about how the Philistines stole 14:50 the ark of the covenant. 14:52 Was that a positive experience for them? No. 14:55 No it wasn't, and what did they want to do with the ark? 14:57 They wanted to give it back. 14:59 They did and it did go back to the Israelites, didn't it? 15:01 Yes, that was a very interesting story. 15:04 Okay, so today we're going to study how the first king of 15:08 Israel came about. 15:10 And Anna, as always you're going to start off our reading, 15:13 1 Samuel 8:1-3... 15:16 "Now it came to pass when Samuel was old that he made 15:20 his sons judges over Israel. 15:23 The name of his firstborn was Joel; the name of his 15:28 second son Abijah. 15:29 They were judges in Beersheba. 15:32 But his sons did not walk in his ways. 15:34 They turned aside after dishonest gain; took bribes 15:39 and perverted justice." Thanks Anna. 15:42 So now Samuel was a priest, a prophet and a judge. 15:47 And his godly life had been a great 15:49 influence on the Israelites which brought great reform 15:52 in Israel. 15:54 Samuel, because of his old age, had handed the judging 15:57 responsibilities to his sons, but Samuel's sons were 16:01 doing the wrong thing and they chose not to follow 16:06 in their father's footsteps. Let's read on... 16:08 Matthew can you please read 1 Samuel 8:4-6. 16:15 "Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and 16:18 came to Samuel at Ramah, 16:20 and said to him, "Look, you are old and your sons do not 16:24 walk in your ways; now make us a 16:26 king to judge us like other nations. 16:29 But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, 16:31 "Give us a king to judge us." 16:32 So Samuel prayed to the Lord." 16:34 So what are the people asking for? A king! 16:39 They're asking for a king, just like the nations around them. 16:43 But up until this time, God was the head of the nation, 16:46 and He had used people like Samuel 16:48 to guide the Israelite nation, 16:51 but now the Israelites wanted a king to rule them. 16:54 God wanted Samuel to tell the Israelites what was 16:58 going to happen if a king ruled over them. 17:00 Let's see what some of the things are. 17:02 Kate, can you please read 1 Samuel 8:15-17. 17:08 "He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, 17:11 and give it to his officers and servants. 17:15 And he will take your male servants, your female servants, 17:18 your finest young men and your donkeys, 17:21 and put them to his work. 17:22 He will take a tenth of your sheep, 17:25 and you will be his servants." 17:29 So it sounds like there's going to be a lot of taking. 17:31 The king is going to take a lot. 17:32 Do you know what - God knows the end from the beginning, 17:36 and He knew down the track that there was going to be some 17:38 good kings, but there was also going to be 17:40 some pretty wicked kings. 17:42 And, do you know what - God knows what's best for us. 17:45 But even though Samuel warned them, the Israelites 17:49 still wanted a king. 17:50 Caleb, you're going to read for us, 1 Samuel 8:22. 17:55 "So the Lord said to Samuel, "Heed their voice, 18:00 make them a king." 18:01 And Samuel said to the men of Israel, 18:04 "Every man go to his city." 18:07 Hmm. Okay J. J., you're going to read our torch light today, 18:11 our writings from Mrs. Ellen White and they're going to 18:14 shine some information on that verse that we just read. 18:22 "When men choose to have their own way without seeking 18:26 counsel from God, go in opposition to His revealed will, 18:30 He often grants their desires 18:33 in order that through the bitter 18:40 experience that follows, they may be led to realize their 18:44 folly and to repent for their sin." Thank you J. J. 18:49 Do you know what? God let them have 18:51 a king even though He knew it was not best for them. 18:56 God allowed them to have free choice. 18:59 We will find out, in the Sabbaths to come, 19:02 what happens because of the choice they made. 19:05 So we are now going to discover who the son of a man 19:08 named "Kish" was. 19:10 Aunt Cecily, can you please read us 1 Samuel 9:2-3. 19:14 "And he had a choice and handsome son whose name was 19:18 Saul. There was not a more handsome person than he 19:22 among the children of Israel. 19:24 From his shoulders upward, he was taller than any 19:27 of the people. 19:29 Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul's father, were lost, 19:33 and Kish said to his son, Saul, "Please take one of the 19:37 servants with you and arise, go and look for the donkeys." 19:42 Umm, thanks Aunty Cecily. 19:44 So the name of Kish's son was who? Saul! 19:48 And Saul was sent by his father, with a servant to find 19:52 his donkeys that had gone missing. 19:54 Anna, can you please read 1 Samuel 9:4-6. 19:59 "So he passed through the mountains of Ephraim, 20:03 and through the land of Shalisha, 20:05 but they did not find them. 20:07 Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, 20:12 and they were not there. 20:13 Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, 20:18 but they did not find them. 20:20 When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said 20:24 to his servant who was with him, "Come, let us return, 20:29 lest my father cease caring about the donkeys 20:31 and become worried about us." 20:33 And he said to him, "Look now, there is in this city 20:36 a man of God, and he is an honorable man; 20:39 all that he says surely comes to pass. 20:42 So let us go there; perhaps he can show 20:44 us the way that we should go." Thanks Anna. 20:48 So they looked all over the countryside for three days, 20:51 looking for those missing donkeys. 20:52 Did they find them? No, they didn't. 20:56 No, so Saul's servant had an idea to go and see 21:00 Samuel who was the prophet who lived 21:02 nearby in the city of Ramah. 21:05 Perhaps he could tell them what to do next. 21:08 Now Matthew, let's read about that, 1 Samuel 9:14-17. 21:13 "So they went up to the city. 21:15 As they were coming into the city, there was Samuel, 21:19 coming out toward them on his way up to the high place. 21:22 Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear the day before Saul 21:26 came, saying, "Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man 21:29 from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander 21:33 over My people Israel, that he may save My people 21:36 from the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked 21:39 upon My People, because their cry has come to Me." 21:42 So when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him, 21:46 "There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. 21:49 This one shall reign over My people." Thanks Matthew. 21:53 So the Lord had told Samuel that he would meet Saul on this day, 21:57 and that he was going to be the king. 21:59 Bethany, can you please read 1 Samuel 9:18-20? Yep. 22:05 "Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, 22:09 "Please tell me, where is the seer's house?" 22:11 Samuel answered Saul and said, "I am the seer. 22:14 Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with 22:18 me today and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you 22:23 all that is in your heart. 22:25 But as for the donkeys that were lost three days ago, 22:28 do not be anxious about them, for they have been found. 22:31 And on whom is all the desire of Israel? 22:34 Is it not on you and on all your father's house?" 22:40 Umm, so Samuel invites Saul to the sacrificial feast, 22:44 and after the offering has been made, he tells Saul 22:49 his donkeys have been found. 22:51 Samuel also indicates to Saul that something was going 22:54 to happen to him to change his life forever. 22:57 Okay, Kate, can you please read 1 Samuel 9:27 and 10:1. 23:03 "As they were going down to the outskirts of the city, 23:08 Samuel said to Saul, "Tell the servant to go on ahead of us." 23:12 And he went on. "But you stand here awhile, that I may 23:15 announce to you the word of God." 23:17 "Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, 23:21 and kissed him and said: "Is it not because the Lord 23:25 has anointed you commander over His inheritance?" Thanks Kate. 23:30 So Samuel anointed Saul as king. 23:33 So Samuel calls all the Israelites to Mizpah 23:36 to publically choose the king that they requested 23:38 by casting lot through prayer and divine guidance. 23:42 Let's read that, Caleb, 1 Samuel 10:20-22 please. 23:47 "And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come 23:53 near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. 23:57 When he had called the tribe of Benjamin to come near 24:01 by their families, the family of Matri was chosen. 24:06 And Saul the son of Kish was chosen. 24:09 But when they sought him, he could not be found. 24:13 Therefore they inquired of the Lord further, 24:17 "Has the man come here yet?" 24:20 And the Lord answered, "There he is, hidden among the 24:23 equipment." 24:25 So Saul was so overwhelmed with the responsibility 24:28 ahead of him, he hid, but God told them where to find him. 24:33 Let's look at our memory verse found in 1 Samuel 12:24, 24:37 and let's read that together. 24:52 So God was reminding them that He was their God, 24:55 and to remember the wonderful things 24:58 that He had done for them. 24:59 I think that's something we could remember as well. 25:03 Thank you boys and girls for reading along with us. 25:05 We have a devotional available that goes into more 25:08 depth on what we've studied today. 25:10 Here's how you can get that. 25:12 Hey boys and girls! See you next Sabbath! 28:21 I'm looking forward to going to heaven because 28:23 they'll be never-ending food. 28:29 I'm looking forward to going to heaven 28:32 because I'd get to see all the Bible characters. 28:39 I can't wait to get to heaven because 28:41 I'd be able to play with all the animals. |
