00:01 Hello there! Happy Sabbath!
00:02 Come on in, we're about to meet with the King! 00:52 Hello, welcome to our worship time! 00:54 I'm so glad you came back. 00:56 Come on in and join us! 00:57 Aunty Cecily, it's so good to see you, how are you? 00:59 I'm well thanks, Aunty Nat, and I'm so glad 01:02 it's the Sabbath and I love spending it with the children. 01:05 Yes, I can't believe another week zoomed by. 01:08 It's gone by so quickly! 01:10 How are you today kids? Good! 01:14 Can you remember who else we need to say "hello" to? 01:17 Yes, it's Teddy! Hello Teddy! 01:20 How are you? You are such a handsome boy! 01:23 Aunt Cecily, can you say a prayer 01:25 for us to open our worship time? Yes, I'd love to. 01:28 Let's bow our heads. 01:29 Dear Jesus... We thank You so much that we can come 01:32 aside from the week and that we can worship You, 01:35 and welcome the Sabbath hours. 01:37 We pray that You would be with us in our worship time. 01:41 In Jesus name... Amen, Amen, Amen! 01:44 Thanks Aunty Cecily, how was your week? 01:47 I've had a lovely week, but, you know, I really 01:49 enjoy the Sabbath so that I can stop work and just 01:52 spend time with God. 01:54 Aunty Cecily, how do you spend time with God on the Sabbath? 01:57 Ah, that's a good question, Matthew. 02:00 Well, because we stop doing our regular activities 02:03 on the Sabbath - like work and school, our brains have time to 02:07 rest and think about all the wonderful things 02:10 God has done for us. 02:11 We can go to church and study the Bible together, 02:14 and listen to a sermon from the pastor, and all these things 02:18 can draw us closer to Jesus. 02:20 Yes, our lives can benefit so much 02:23 from resting on the Sabbath. 02:25 God is ready to pour out His blessings on us. 02:28 Now speaking of blessings, let's have a look in our 02:31 blessing box and see what else we can do 02:33 for someone on the Sabbath. 02:35 Caleb, you're going to do that for us today. 02:38 "Help mom and dad prepare for Sabbath." 02:41 Wow, what a great blessing! 02:43 Sometimes when we've had a really busy week, 02:45 it could be a bit tricky to get ready for the Sabbath. 02:48 Do you help your family prepare for the Sabbath? 02:51 Caleb, can you think of some jobs that you could do 02:53 around the house to prepare for the Sabbath? 02:55 Um, vacuuming. 02:56 Oh Caleb, I think that would be 02:58 a great blessing to your mom. 02:59 It would be a lovely gift to her. 03:01 Aunt Cecily, I know that you have a wonderful blessing 03:04 to share with us as well. 03:06 Yes, you know we spoke last Sabbath about the Tree of Life, 03:10 and how God restores it to us when we get to heaven. 03:14 This will allow us to have a forever-friendship with Jesus. 03:18 Now our Bible story today is about friendship too. 03:21 Jesus wants you to be His friend. 03:24 He loves us so much that He wants to give us 03:27 a new body when He comes again. 03:29 There will be no more aches and pains, and no more 03:32 illness and no more dying or growing old. 03:36 There will be no more tiredness or lack of energy. 03:39 God will restore us to fullness of life. 03:42 All the lumps and the bumps and the scars, 03:45 and the deformities of this life will all be taken away, 03:48 and Jesus will be the only One 03:50 in heaven who will have any scars. 03:53 The marks on His feet and his hands which He received 03:57 while dying on the cross, for you and me, 04:00 will be there for all of us to see. 04:04 Listen to this from 1 Corinthians 15:51-52... 04:10 "Behold I tell you a mystery, we shall not all sleep, 04:15 but we shall all be changed in a moment, 04:18 in a twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet, 04:21 for the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ 04:25 will be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed." 04:29 Isn't that a beautiful promise of hope! 04:32 So we need to believe in God's promises! 04:35 Wow, thanks Aunty Cecily. 04:38 Can you imagine, a new body that never gets tired 04:40 or has any aches and pains. Aw, that would be wonderful! 04:42 Can't wait! God is SO good! 04:45 And I can see that Pastor Rick has joined us. 04:47 Thanks Pastor Rick, you are such a blessing to us! 04:50 And I'm just so glad to be with you. 04:52 Children, I hear you're going to be learning 04:54 about David and Goliath. 04:55 Now when I was little, I think I remember David 04:58 was the little guy; Goliath was the big man, 05:01 but the Lord helped David win the battle, is that true? Yes. 05:05 So let's sing about that, "Only a Boy Named David." 05:57 Pastor Rick, can we please sing "The Family of God?" 06:01 It's a lovely song too, isn't it? 06:02 Boy, we sing some good songs here. 06:05 Yes we can - "The Family of God." 07:04 Pastor Rick, can we please sing "God is My Best Friend?" 07:07 Only if God is your best friend. We can do it! Yes! 08:25 Thanks Pastor Rick, we really 08:27 enjoy these happy songs together. 08:30 Now, who is our favorite storyteller? 08:33 Doctor John! Yes! 08:36 Well let's go and see what story he has for us today. 08:41 Hello boys and girls, I'm Dr. John and welcome to story time. 08:45 And all the other boys and girls watching, 08:47 we're glad you are here too. 08:49 Many years ago, over 100 years ago, a handsome, young man 08:55 met a beautiful, young girl at Avondale College, 08:59 and his name was Norman and her name was Irma, 09:03 and they got married. 09:04 And they were asked if they would go to the worst 09:09 island in the worst country in the whole world 09:13 because the cannibals were so awful and so cruel, 09:17 but they agreed to go and off they went to Malekula. 09:23 Well they worked there so faithfully with all these 09:26 cannibals around them and unfortunately Norman got sick. 09:31 He died of blackwater fever and 09:35 Mrs. Wiles had to dig his own grave for him, 09:39 and then she had to bury him and had to guard the grave 09:44 because the cannibals wanted to dig him up and eat him. 09:49 And, you know, she finally left, she was a wonderful lady, 09:52 I met her and another missionary came - his name was 09:57 Will, "Will Smith" and his family. 10:00 And they lived in a little house 10:02 right near where the "Wiles" used to live. 10:05 And nearby was a horrible cannibal, 10:08 and his name was "Ool." 10:11 Ool had been married several times - he killed his first wife 10:14 because she left the pig out in the rain. 10:18 And every day, he would go to another village, 10:22 he would capture somebody and kill them and he'd 10:26 bring the body home and he'd say to his wife, 10:28 "Lahari," cook this for me! 10:31 Make a stew, make a roast, and then he was running out 10:36 of food and he said, "That missionary, Pastor Smith, 10:41 mmm, yum, yum, I'm going to kill him and eat him." 10:47 And then his son, Dick, said, "Don't go there because 10:54 the angels guard." 10:55 "What do you mean?" 10:58 He went off and he had a look, there were no angels. 11:00 He said, "You didn't go at the right time." 11:03 "You go at nighttime and you will see the angels." 11:06 So late that night, it was the darkest time of the month, 11:10 and he was so black and he crept along and he saw 11:14 this "glow" through the trees and he got closer, 11:18 and what he saw looked like this - "Angels with swords, 11:24 very, very bright," but they were standing so close together, 11:29 right around the house, they couldn't get in. 11:35 He came back the next night. 11:36 He said, "Oh, he's got strong people looking after him." 11:42 And he kept on asking his wife to cook him flesh, 11:47 and finally, Lahari said, "I'm going to leave you. 11:50 I'm going to go and live next to Pastor Smith 11:54 because he has the big angels guarding him." 11:57 "I don't want you to go." 11:59 She said, "I'm going because 12:01 I cannot cook for you any longer." 12:05 You know, "Ool," he came along because he was hungry, 12:09 and that night when he sat down to eat instead of 12:13 meat with a flesh fork, it was sweet potatoes and yam, 12:21 stuck the fork in - didn't taste very nice because 12:27 he was used to eating human flesh - because it was an 12:33 addiction and they liked it so much they would keep on eating. 12:36 And finally he said, "If I come, will the angels 12:42 look after me as well?" 12:43 "You must stop eating human flesh," and he stopped. 12:49 He got sick later and as he was dying, he said, 12:53 "Please bury me inside the ring of angels and don't 12:58 put me back in the skull house where all the devils are 13:02 because I know that any missionary with angels 13:07 that stand in a ring around his house must be good for him." 13:11 And you know, he died and Dick, his son, who had been a 13:17 cannibal, he went and studied and he became Pastor Dick. 13:23 And he became a black missionary on the island 13:27 of Malekula - the worst island, in the worst country 13:32 where the devil was the strongest, 13:35 and had the people in his grip - God sent missionaries 13:39 like Pastor and Mrs. Wiles and Pastor and Mrs. Smith 13:42 and the people became converted 13:45 and the devil lost. Thank you boys and girls. 13:50 Hi girls and boys, welcome to our Bible study! 13:53 If you haven't got your Bibles ready yet, 13:55 go get them now so you can follow along with us. 13:57 Bethany, would you like to say a prayer for us please? Yep. 14:00 Dear Father... Thank You for the opportunity of 14:04 being able to open our Bibles and read Your word. 14:07 Please help us to understand what we read. 14:10 We ask you to bless the children who are watching 14:12 us at home. In Jesus name... Amen. 14:15 Amen. Thank you Bethany. 14:16 Now Matthew, we had an interesting study last Sabbath, 14:19 what was that about? 14:20 That Saul disobeyed God. Yes he did. 14:23 And do you know what, today, we're going to 14:26 read about a person that Samuel said would overtake 14:30 Saul's position as king. 14:32 Samuel was instructed to go to Bethlehem to anoint 14:35 a new king, so when Samuel arrived at Bethlehem, 14:39 he invited the elders and Jesse and his sons to the sacrifice. 14:43 Matthew, can you please read 1 Samuel 16:6-7 and 10. 14:50 "So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab 14:54 and said, "Surely the Lord's anointed is before Him!" 14:58 But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance 15:01 or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. 15:04 For the Lord does not see as man sees; 15:07 for man looks at the outward appearance, 15:09 but the Lord looks at the heart." 15:11 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. 15:14 And Samuel said to Jesse, "The Lord has not chosen these." 15:18 Thanks Matthew. 15:20 So none that the seven sons of Jesse were the ones God chose. 15:24 Samuel asked Jesse if he had another son. 15:27 Jesse told Samuel that there is a younger son 15:31 not present but out in the field minding the sheep. 15:34 Samuel asks him to go get him. 15:37 Let's continue reading. 15:38 Bethany, can you read 1 Samuel 16:12-13? Yep. 15:44 "So he sent and brought him in. 15:45 Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. 15:50 And the Lord said, "Arise, anoint him; 15:52 for this is the one!" 15:54 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the 15:58 midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord 16:01 came upon David from that day forward. 16:03 So Samuel arose and went to Ramah." Thanks Bethany. 16:07 So Samuel anoints David. 16:09 Now Samuel wanted to anoint Jesse's oldest son, Eliab, 16:12 because he looked like Saul, very tall and handsome. 16:16 But this time, God wanted a man after His own heart. 16:20 Okay, now the Philistines wanted to go out and make 16:24 war with the Israelites, let's see what happens. 16:27 J. J., can you please read 1 Samuel 17:3-7. Yes. 16:31 "The Philistines stood on a mountain on one side, 16:34 and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side, 16:38 with a valley between them. 16:39 And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, 16:44 named Goliath, from Gath, 16:46 whose height was six cubits and a span. 16:48 He had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed 16:52 with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat 16:56 was 5,000 shekels of bronze. 16:58 And he had bronze armor on his legs and a bronze 17:02 javelin between his shoulders. 17:05 Now the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, 17:08 and his iron spearhead weighed 600 shekels; and a 17:13 shield-bearer went before him." 17:15 Wow, thanks J. J. 17:18 So the Philistines had a giant working for them. 17:21 His name was Goliath. 17:23 Now we just read that Goliath was 6 cubits and a span tall. 17:27 Now a cubit is 18 inches and a span is half a cubit. 17:32 So when you work it out, it all adds up to 117 inches, 17:38 which in our measurement is 297 centimeters tall. 17:42 That's nearly 3 meters. 17:45 And boys and girls, guess what? 17:47 We have a replica of Goliath in our lounge room. 17:52 He is very big. 17:53 Now J. J., I want you to go and stand up against Goliath 17:57 to show the girls and boys at home how big this giant was. 18:01 Off you go - he was a big man! Well done! 18:07 There you go! Thanks J. J. 18:10 You can come and sit back down now. 18:12 Okay, so let's see what Goliath 18:15 was yelling out to the Israelites. 18:16 Aunt Cecily, can you please read 1 Samuel 17:10-11 and 16. 18:23 "And the Philistine said, "I defy the armies of Israel 18:27 this day. Give me a man that we may fight together. 18:31 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, 18:36 They were dismayed and greatly afraid. 18:39 And the Philistine drew near and presented himself 18:42 40 days morning and evening." 18:45 Oh, so for 40 days, every morning and every evening, 18:51 Goliath came out and repeated this speech... 18:54 And verse 11 tells us the Israelites were very afraid! 18:59 Now David's three older brothers had gone up with Saul 19:02 to fight the Philistines and David's father asked David 19:05 to take some food supplies to them. 19:06 When David arrives, he hears the ranting and raving of 19:10 Goliath challenging Israel. 19:12 Let see what David says. 19:13 Anna, can you please read 1 Samuel 17:26. 19:19 "Then David spoke to the men who stood by him saying, 19:22 "What shall be done for the men who kills this Philistine 19:25 and takes away the reproach from Israel? 19:29 For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should 19:32 defy the armies of the living God?" 19:34 Umm, thanks Anna. 19:35 Now if we were to read on, it was reported to Saul 19:38 what David said and he called for him. Let's see what happens. 19:41 Matthew, can you please read 1 Samuel 17:32-33 and 36. 19:47 "Then David said to Saul, "Let no man's heart fail because 19:52 of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine." 19:55 And Saul said to David, "You are not able to go against 19:59 this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, 20:02 and he a man of war from his youth." 20:04 "Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this 20:08 uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, 20:13 seeing he had defied the armies of the living God." 20:16 Wow, so David is telling Saul he has killed lions and bears, 20:21 and just as the Lord delivered him from these animals, 20:24 God will also deliver him from giants. 20:26 Do you think David had faith? Yes! 20:29 Oh I think he did and you look at the size of that giant, 20:32 I think he had a big faith. 20:34 Well, David was so indignant that someone 20:38 would make fun of his God, Saul finally agreed 20:41 that David could go fight the giant, 20:44 and he put his armor on David, but do you know what? 20:47 David couldn't walk in all that armor. 20:49 So he took it off and let's see what happens. 20:51 Bethany, can you please read 1 Samuel 17:40-43? Yep. 20:57 "Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose 21:02 for himself five smooth stones from the brook, 21:05 and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch 21:08 which he had, and his sling was in his hand. 21:11 And he drew near to the Philistine. 21:13 So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, 21:17 and the man who bore the shield went before him. 21:19 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, 21:23 he disdained him; for he was only a youth, 21:25 ruddy and good-looking. 21:28 So the Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come 21:32 to me with sticks?" 21:33 And the Philistine cursed David by his gods." 21:36 Umm, so Goliath is not happy that such a young man 21:38 would dare come out and fight him, and he cursed him. 21:42 Let's see what David says. 21:43 Kate, can you read 1 Samuel 17:45 and then 49-50. 21:51 "Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me 21:57 with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, 22:00 but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, 22:03 the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied." 22:07 Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone 22:12 and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead 22:17 so that the stone sank into his forehead and he fell on 22:20 his face to the earth. 22:21 So David prevailed over the Philistine 22:24 with a sling and a stone and struck the Philistine 22:27 and killed him, but there was no sword in the hand of David." 22:32 Hmm, so David took that giant 22:35 Goliath down with just a slingshot. 22:38 If we were to read on, David used Goliath's sword and 22:41 cut off his head and the Philistines 22:44 fled with the Israelites in pursuit. 22:47 So after this victory, Saul would not let David 22:51 return home to his father, but kept him in the palace. 22:54 Let's read what happens. 22:56 Caleb, can you please read 1 Samuel 18:3-4. 23:00 "Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because 23:04 he loved him as his own soul. 23:06 And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it 23:10 to David with his armor, even to 23:13 his sword and his bow and and his belt." Thanks Caleb. 23:18 So Jonathan, Saul's son, and David formed a very 23:22 special friendship and bond and this got orchestrated 23:25 so Jonathan could keep David safe. 23:28 Now do you know, after all these things that happened, 23:31 Saul became very jealous because, you know what, 23:34 after David killed that giant, do you think he became popular? 23:37 Yes, he did and Saul became very jealous and he was angry. 23:42 Do you know what Saul is really saying that David 23:46 is making Saul look bad. 23:48 Let's look at our torch light and Bethany, 23:51 could you please read that for us? 23:55 "The people were not slow to see that David was 23:58 a competent person and that the affairs entrusted 24:02 to his hands were managed with wisdom and skill. 24:06 The counsels of the young man were of a wise 24:10 and discreet character, and proved to be safe to follow. 24:14 While the judgment of Saul was at times unreliable 24:17 and his decisions were not wise. Thanks Bethany. 24:20 Let's all go to our memory verse now, found in Proverbs 9:10. 24:36 So having fear of the Lord means having love and 24:38 respect for God and being obedient. 24:41 This verse is telling us... if we do this, 24:44 God will bless us with wisdom. 24:46 Thank you boys and girls for reading along with us. 24:49 We have a devotional available that goes into more depth 24:52 on what we've studied today, here's how you can get that. 24:55 Hey boys and girls! Proverbs 9:10 26:16 Abigail, we've come to the end of another worship time, 26:18 what did you learn from the King today? 26:20 That even though David was young, 26:22 he still did great things for God. 26:25 He certainly did and do you know that we can all do 26:28 great things for God, but we need to surrender 26:30 our heart to Him. 26:33 Well, we've come to the end of our worship 26:35 and that's the time to sing our blessing song 26:37 to the children, so let's turn around and do that. 26:46 May God bless you and keep you, 26:51 and fill your heart with love. 26:56 May God guide and protect you, 27:01 and watch you from above. 27:06 As Sabbath after Sabbath, 27:11 we greet the Day of Rest, 27:16 the day the King of Glory 27:21 has sanctified and blessed. 27:27 Goodbye my friend, till we meet again, 27:32 for another day with the King! 27:37 Goodbye! See you next Sabbath! 27:51 I'm looking forward to going to heaven 27:52 because they'll be never-ending food. 27:59 I'm looking forward to going to heaven because 28:02 I'd get to see all the Bible characters. 28:09 I can't wait to get to heaven 28:11 because I'll be able to play with all the animals. |
