00:02 Hello there! Happy Sabbath!
00:04 Come on in, we're about to meet with the King! 00:53 Hello, I'm Aunty Net and it's great you have come 00:55 to join us for our worship time. 00:57 Hi Aunty Cecily, how has your week been? 01:00 Oh okay, good but a busy week. 01:02 But I'm so glad to be here 01:03 with you all for another worship time. 01:05 Yes, I'm glad the Sabbath has arrived. 01:09 Aunty Cecily, would you like to say hello to someone 01:11 who regularly watches our program 01:13 and joins with our worship time? 01:15 I sure would... I actually have several children 01:18 to say hello to. 01:19 I'd like to send a BIG Hello to Colby, Tyler and Brianna 01:24 from Queensland. 01:25 Hi Colby, Tyler and Brianna! Hello! 01:29 Now there's someone else we need to say hello to... 01:31 Hello Teddy, so good to have you on the couch with us. 01:35 Erin, can you please say a prayer for us 01:38 to welcome in our worship time? 01:40 Dear Lord... Thank You that we are all here together 01:43 to welcome in Your Sabbath day. 01:45 Thank You for the many blessings You have given us this week. 01:48 In Jesus name... Amen, Amen! 01:51 Thank you Erin. 01:52 Now let's look at another key to the Kingdom. 01:56 And I'm going to get Sophie to open our box today 01:59 and see what our key is. 02:05 "Confess your wrongs." 02:06 Can you turn the label over and tell us what the Bible 02:09 text is? 02:10 1 John 1:9. Thanks Sophie. 02:14 Caleb, can you please read that text for us from the Bible? 02:17 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just 02:21 to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from 02:24 all unrighteousness." Thank you Caleb. 02:27 Aunty Cecily, can you tell us more about this key? 02:30 Yes, remember last week's lesson, David repented of 02:34 his sin but he also confessed it. 02:38 He didn't try to make his sin any less serious 02:40 than it really was. 02:42 Confession is not about blaming someone else. 02:45 It's about taking responsibility for our own actions. 02:49 In David's prayer of repentance in Psalm 51:3, 02:53 he said... "For I acknowledge or I admit my transgressions, 02:58 and my sin is always before me." 03:01 So to confess your sin - is to admit that you did it. 03:05 Confession will not be acceptable to God 03:08 without sincere repentance and a 03:10 willingness to change our ways. 03:13 God has created us with the power of choice, 03:16 and we can choose whether to follow God or not. 03:20 What we can do is give our will or our power of choice 03:25 to God and ask Him to guide us or to direct our 03:29 steps day-by-day so that we are simply 03:32 carrying out His will. 03:34 Caleb, have you had to confess something to your mom or dad 03:38 when you've done something wrong? Yeah. 03:40 And was that a hard thing to do? Not really. 03:44 And why was that? 03:46 I knew mom wouldn't be angry with me if I told her 03:48 the truth and owned up. 03:50 Well, it's just like that when we confess our sins 03:53 to our Heavenly Father, sometimes it seems hard to do, 03:57 but if we ask God to help us confess, we'll find that it's 04:01 not so hard to do and we'll feel so much better when we do. 04:06 So as we spend time with the King this Sabbath, 04:09 let's ask God to give us the gift of repentance 04:12 and confession so that God can forgive us and cleanse us, 04:16 and keep a place for us in His Kingdom. 04:19 Thanks, Aunty Cecily, for sharing the third key with us. 04:22 God wants us to ask Him about everything and He will 04:26 give us the help we need. 04:28 I can see that Braedan has arrived to help us 04:31 with our worship time. 04:32 It's good to be here! Hi boys and girls! 04:34 Let's sing "Remember the Sabbath." 05:22 Braedan, can we please sing, "I Am So Glad?" 05:25 We certainly can. 06:29 Braedan, can we please sing, "A Little Talk with Jesus?" 06:32 That's a great song, let's sing it together. 07:22 Thanks Braedan! 07:23 Singing praises to God really lifts our spirits. 07:27 Now Dr. John has another inspiring 07:29 story for us, let's go and listen! 07:32 Hello boys and girls, it's wonderful to have 07:35 you as my little friends again. 07:38 I want to say a special welcome to the older people 07:41 all around the world because I know you watch 07:43 "A Day With the King," and you love the stories. 07:47 Thank you for joining us today. 07:49 I want to tell you a story from the Bible and I'll bet 07:52 you've never heard it before. 07:53 It's from the Bible and from history and there's just 07:57 one little verse in the Bible that mentions his name. 07:59 But I'll start with a man called, "Manaen," 08:03 and he was a prophet. 08:06 And he was walking down the road one day, 08:08 and this is from Josephus, the historian... 08:12 And God said to Manahen, "Do you see that little 08:15 boy walking down the road?" 08:17 Jeremiah, you be my little boy today - stand-up and 08:21 turn around. 08:22 Now this little boy was going to school and he wasn't 08:27 too happy about it. 08:28 He was walking - come on, going-to-school-face, alright! 08:33 Now God said to Manahen "I want you to go and tell 08:38 that boy that one day he's going to be king." 08:43 Now how do you tell a little boy, who is 7 years old, 08:46 (you're a bit older than 7), how do you tell a little boy 08:49 something that he will not forget because little boys 08:52 have got very good forgetteries, and so Manahen thought... 08:56 "I know what I'll do." 08:58 He snuck up behind him... (don't you look at me, 09:01 you look that way) and when the little boy 09:06 least expected it, Manahen came up behind him 09:11 and went "BOOM" on the backside! 09:13 And he jumped in the air and he turned around 09:16 and he said, "Young man, one day you will be king, 09:21 off you go to school." 09:22 Thank you Jeremiah. 09:25 Many years later, the boy became king! 09:30 And the first thing he did was to call Manahen. 09:33 He said, "You made a prophecy that I was 09:36 going to be king, and you were right!" 09:39 He said, "Will I be king for 10 years?" "Um hm" 09:44 "Oh good, will I be king for 20 years?" 09:47 "Um hm." Then he got bold, 09:51 he said, "30 years?" 09:54 And Manahen's face didn't look quite as cheerful, 09:57 and he said, "Yes, but your last 10:02 10 years won't be very happy ones." "Oh, okay." 10:07 And he said, "I'm going to reward you by adopting 10:11 your son and he will be a half- brother to one of the princes." 10:15 The king's name was... he called himself "Hero," Hero the Great, 10:20 we know him as "Herod" and he became a special friend 10:25 to little Manaen, the son of Manahen, 10:28 to King Antipas and he stayed with him. 10:33 He ate at the royal table; everything he did 10:37 was at the royal table and he was probably 10:40 watching when Jesus was tortured and teased, 10:45 and mocked by King Antipas. 10:49 And one day he said, "I cannot stay here any longer." 10:54 And he said, "That man that you crucified, Jesus Christ, 10:59 I believe He was the Messiah, the Son of God, 11:03 the Savior of the world and I have to leave." 11:08 He went all the way across to Antioch and all the disciples 11:12 were in Antioch because they had been driven by 11:15 persecution out of Jerusalem. 11:18 And one day God said, "I want you to do a very special 11:24 thing - I want you to ordain my servant "Saul 11:28 and Barnabas to be ministers and to spread the gospel 11:33 to the whole world." 11:34 And I've got one of your "Day With the Kings Bibles," 11:38 and I've got a bookmark here and there is only one text 11:41 that mentions "Manaen," and it is from Acts 13:1. 11:47 Let me read it... "Now in the church that was at Antioch 11:50 there were certain prophets and teachers; 11:52 Barnabas, Simeon, Lucius and Manaen (then it says) 11:59 who had been brought up with 12:01 Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 12:04 And as they ministered to the Lord and fasted, 12:06 the Lord said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul..." 12:09 And they fasted and prayed and they put their hands on them, 12:14 and ordained them to the gospel. 12:16 That little boy, who grew up in that awful home, 12:20 there is a lovely hymn that says, "Turn your eyes 12:24 upon Jesus," and he saw Jesus at His trial and he gave 12:29 his heart to Him and I'm really looking forward 12:32 to meeting Manaen in the Kingdom of Heaven, are you? 12:36 We're all going to be there, thank you boys and girls! 12:39 Come on in and join us for our Bible study! 12:42 Don't forget to grab your Bible, so you can follow along with us. 12:45 Aunty Cecily, can you please say a prayer 12:47 for us to open our study? Yes. 12:49 Dear Heavenly Father... Thank You for our Bibles, 12:52 and we just pray for the Holy Spirit to guide our minds 12:56 and give us understanding as we read from Your word. 13:00 And please bless the children who are joining us 13:03 from home. In Jesus name... Amen, Amen! 13:07 Abigail, do you remember what we studied about last Sabbath? 13:10 David and his sin with Bathsheba. 13:13 Yes, we know that David repented and God forgave him, 13:16 but God could not take away the consequences of David's sin, 13:20 and that is what we're going to study about today 13:22 because it particularly affected his children. 13:25 Okay Erin, you're going to begin our study with 13:28 2 Samuel 12:24-25. 13:32 "Then David comforted Bathsheba, his wife, and went into her 13:37 and lay with her, so she bore a son and he called 13:41 his name "Solomon." 13:43 Now the Lord loved him, and He sent word by the 13:46 hand of Nathan the prophet; 13:47 so he called his name Jedidiah because of the Lord." 13:52 So even though there was great controversy 13:55 surrounding Solomon's birth, God loved him, 13:59 and he was given a special name by God, "Jedidiah," 14:03 which means "beloved by the Lord." 14:05 You know what? God is so good! 14:07 Now because David had lots of children from different 14:10 wives, the children were always in conflict with one another. 14:14 The Bible tells us that Amnon did a great wrong against his 14:19 stepsister Tamar and Absalom killed his stepbrother Ammon 14:23 for what he did. 14:24 Can you remember last Sabbath, we read about David 14:26 pronouncing his own judgment by saying the 14:28 wrongdoer should pay fourfold... 14:31 well this prophesy that David would lose four of his sons 14:35 to death; the first was Bathsheba's first child, 14:38 and now the second was Amnon. 14:40 Abigail, can you read 2 Samuel 13:37 and 39. 14:46 "But Absalom fled and fled to Talmai, the son of 14:49 Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his 14:52 son every day. 14:53 And King David longed to see Absalom for he had 14:56 been comforted concerning Amnon, because he was dead." 15:00 Thanks Abigail. 15:01 Absalom fled to Geshur and stayed with King Talmai, 15:05 who was actually his grandfather, 15:07 and stayed there 3 years. 15:09 Can you show us where the area "Geshur" is? 15:11 Thank you Aunty Cecily. 15:13 After David had mourned the loss of Amnon, 15:15 he longed to make amends with Absalom. 15:19 Joab, who was David's commander, wanted to help 15:21 with reuniting David and Absalom; this he did and 15:25 David agreed to bring his son back from exile, 15:29 but he was not allowed to speak to his father. 15:31 Bethany, can you read 2 Samuel 14:25-26? Yes. 15:37 "Now in all Israel there was no one who was praised 15:41 as much as Absalom for his good looks. 15:43 From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head 15:46 there was no blemish in him. 15:48 And when he cut the hair of his head, at the end of 15:50 every year, he cut it because it was heavy on him, 15:53 when he cut it, he weighed the hair of his head at 15:56 200 shekels according to the king's standard." 15:59 So Absalom was known for his good looks and beautiful hair. 16:04 Now since being back in Jerusalem, Absalom had not 16:08 seen his father for 2 years. 16:09 If you add up the three years he was in exile, 16:12 he had not seen his father for 5 years... this Absalom 16:16 was getting tired of and demanded to speak to Joab, 16:19 David's commander to find out why. 16:22 Sophie, can you read 2 Samuel 14:33. 16:26 "So Joab went to the king and told him, and when he had 16:29 called for Absalom, he came to the king and bowed 16:32 himself on his face to the ground before the king. 16:35 Then the king kissed Absalom." Thanks Sophie. 16:38 Finally reconciliation happened, but on Absalom's 16:41 part was only superficial. 16:44 He had become bitter and was working out ways 16:47 he could overthrow his father. 16:49 Absalom started standing at the main entrance of Jerusalem. 16:53 Let's see what he would say. 16:54 Matthew, can you read 2 Samuel 15:4-6. 16:59 "Moreover Absalom would say, "Oh, that I were made 17:02 judge in the land, and everyone who has any suit 17:05 or cause would come to me; then I would give him justice. 17:09 And so it was, whenever anyone came near to bow down 17:13 to say that, he would put his hand and take him and kiss him. 17:18 In this manner Absalom acted toward all Israel 17:22 who came to the king for judgment. 17:27 So Absalom stole the hearts of the 17:29 men of Israel." Thanks Matthew. 17:31 So, Absalom, unbeknown to his father, 17:34 was undermining David's leadership as king and telling 17:38 the people that, basically, he would do a better job. 17:42 Mia, can you read 2 Samuel 15:13-14. 17:46 "Now a messenger came to David saying, "The hearts of the men 17:50 of Israel are with Absalom." 17:53 So David said to all his servants who were with him 17:57 at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee, or we shall not escape 18:01 from Absalom. 18:03 Make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and 18:09 bring disaster upon us and strike the city 18:12 with the edge of the sword." Thanks Mia. 18:15 So with the threat of his own son in taking over his throne, 18:19 David left Jerusalem with his household and his army 18:23 so his beautiful city would not experience the ravages of war. 18:27 David mourned greatly that he had to leave Jerusalem. 18:31 David knew the reason his son was committing treason 18:35 against him - was the result of his sin with Bathsheba. 18:39 Okay, let's see where they go. 18:41 Aunty Cecily, can you read 2 Samuel 17:24. 18:46 "Then David went to Mahanaim and Absalom crossed over 18:50 the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him." 18:54 Okay, let's have a look on the map where Mahanaim is. 18:57 Aunty Cecily, can you please show us that? 18:59 We've looked at that city before. 19:01 So we just read that Absalom followed in pursuit 19:04 with his men and if we were to read on, the Bible tells us 19:06 that Absalom and his men lost the battle and Absalom died. 19:11 Absalom was David's third son to die in the prophecy. 19:15 The Bible tells us that after after this, 19:17 David returned to Jerusalem to continue his rule as king 19:20 over Israel - let's see what David gets up to next. 19:25 Erin, can you please read 1 Chronicles - we going over 19:29 to 1 Chronicles now... 1 Chronicles 21:2-3, please. 19:36 "So David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, 19:40 "Go, number Israel from Beersheba to Dan, 19:43 and bring the number of them to me that I may know it. 19:47 And Joab answered, "May the Lord make His people a 19:50 hundred times more than they are. 19:52 But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? 19:57 Why then does my lord inquire this thing? 20:00 Why should he be a cause of guilt in Israel?" 20:03 Oh dear! David wanted to follow the customs of what the 20:07 nations around him were doing. 20:09 Pride moved on his heart, even Joab, David's commander, 20:13 knew that they shouldn't do this thing. 20:16 Let's look at our torch light, Mrs. White's writings, 20:19 to see what they shine on these verses. 20:21 Abigail, can you please read that for us? 20:25 "The prosperity of Israel under David had been due to the 20:29 blessing of God rather than to the ability of her king 20:33 or strength of her armies, but increasing of the military 20:38 resources in the kingdom would give the impression of 20:42 surrounding nations that Israel's trust was in 20:45 her armies not in the power of Jehovah." Thanks Abigail. 20:48 God wanted the nation of Israel to depend on Him 20:52 to fight their battles. 20:53 He didn't want them to depend on the numbers of 20:56 their army, but David was insistent. 20:58 Bethany, can you read 1 Chronicles 21:7-8, please. 21:03 "And God was displeased with this thing; 21:06 therefore, He struck Israel. 21:08 So David said to God, "I have sinned greatly because I have 21:12 done this thing, but now I pray, take away the iniquity 21:17 of Your servant for I have done very foolishly." 21:20 Again David realized what he had done and repented. 21:24 God sent the prophet Gad to David and God gave David 21:28 three choices of punishment; either 3 years of famine, 21:32 3 months of war with his enemies, or 3 days 21:36 punishment from God." 21:38 Sophie, can you read 1 Chronicles 21:13. 21:42 "And David said to Gad, "I am in great distress. 21:46 Please let me fall into the hand of the Lord, 21:48 for His mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into 21:52 the hand of man." 21:53 So David decided that he would much rather receive 21:57 punishment from God than from man because he knew 22:00 God was more merciful. 22:02 Let's look at our memory verse in Ephesians 2:4, 22:07 and let's read that together. 22:11 Ya got that? 22:13 "But God who is rich in mercy because of His great love 22:18 with which He loved us..." 22:21 So because of God's great love for us, 22:23 He shows us great mercies. 22:25 Matthew, can you please read 1 Chronicles 21:14-16. 22:32 "So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel, 22:36 and 70,000 men of Israel fell. 22:39 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. 22:42 As he was destroying, the Lord looked and relented 22:47 of the disaster, He said to the angel who was 22:50 destroy, "It is enough; now restrain your hand." 22:54 And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshing floor 22:58 of Ornan the Jebusite. 23:01 Then David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord 23:05 standing between earth and heaven, having in his hand 23:09 a drawn sword stretched out over Jerusalem. 23:12 So David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, 23:17 and fell on their faces." Thanks Matthew. 23:23 David was greatly humbled that 70,000 23:25 had died because of his sin. 23:28 God directed David to build an altar to God at the 23:31 threshing floor of Ornan and offered burnt offerings 23:35 and peace offerings to God. 23:37 This David did and God accepted the offerings 23:40 with fire from heaven. 23:41 We serve such a merciful God. 23:44 Thank you boys and girls for reading along with us. 23:46 We have a devotional available that goes into more depth 23:49 than what we studied today. 23:51 Here's how you can get that... 23:53 Hey boys and girls, as Aunty Nat said, 23:55 you can get your own devotionals. 23:57 Yes, you can download them free from our website at: 23:59 adaywiththeking.com 24:00 and Anna, we can't forget to tell the kids to 24:03 check out Teddy's blog. 24:04 We have some behind the scenes photos of filming the programs. 24:07 Yes, and we also have some photos of Teddy going 24:10 on his annual visit to the vet. 24:11 We love to hear where in the world 24:13 you're watching the programs from, 24:15 so drop us a line and let us know. 24:16 Get a pen and write down our email address now: 24:19 dwk@3abnaustralia.org.au 24:23 So hop on line today! 24:25 Thanks Kate and Dana! 24:27 Boys and girls, perhaps there's someone you can share 24:30 one of the devotionals with to help them understand 24:33 how much God loves them. 24:35 Aunty Net, can you tell us what we're going 24:36 to be studying about next week? 24:38 Yes, next Sabbath, we are going to study about a king 24:42 who asked for something special from God. 24:45 We look forward to studying that with you again next week. 24:47 Aunty Cecily, shall we go over the memory verse 24:49 we learned in our Bible study today? Yes. 24:51 Let's all say it together... Ephesians 2:4... 25:03 Well children, our worship time is almost over again. 25:08 Caleb, what did you learn about the king today? 25:11 That God wants us to ask Him if we need help. 25:15 Yes, He does. 25:16 God is always willing to help us. 25:18 Aunty Net, are we ready to sing our blessing song 25:21 to the girls and boys at home? 25:23 Yes, I think so - children can you turn around 25:26 so that we can sing our blessing song 25:27 to the children at home. 25:34 May God bless you and keep you, 25:39 and fill your heart with love. 25:44 May God guide and protect you, 25:49 and watch you from above. 25:55 And Sabbath after Sabbath, 26:00 we greet the Day of Rest. 26:05 The day the King of Glory 26:10 has sanctified and blessed. 26:15 Goodbye my friend till we meet again, 26:20 for another day with the King. 26:26 Goodbye! See you next Sabbath! 26:36 My favorite story in the Bible is about Jesus because 26:41 He loves children. 26:46 My favorite Bible story is David because of how 26:48 he trusted and had lots of faith in God 26:51 through all the tough times. 26:54 My favorite story is Ruth because she was brave 26:57 to follow Naomi to a foreign town. |
