00:01 Hello there, happy Sabbath. Come on in.
00:03 We're about to meet with the King. 00:50 Hello there, everyone. 00:51 It's lovely to see you again. 00:53 Hi, Aunty Cecily, how are you going? 00:55 I'm well, thank you, Aunty Nat, 00:56 and it's great to be back again with you and the children. 00:59 Yes, I can't believe another week has whizzed by. 01:03 Aunty, Nat, can I say hello to someone? 01:06 You sure can, Alesha. 01:07 Who would you like to say hello to? 01:08 Uncle David. 01:10 Yes, let's all say hello to Uncle David. 01:12 Hello, Uncle David. 01:14 Speaking of hellos, 01:15 we can't forget to say hello to Teddy. 01:18 Hello Teddy, you're such a good boy sitting there 01:20 on the couch with us. 01:22 Aunty Cecily, would you like to say a prayer for us 01:24 before we commence our worship time? 01:26 Yes, I'd love to. Let's bow our heads. 01:28 Dear Heavenly Father, 01:30 we just thank You for keeping us safe 01:32 through another week. 01:33 We thank You so much for the Sabbath day. 01:36 And we pray that Your Holy Spirit 01:38 would speak to our hearts as we worship 01:40 You now, in Jesus' name, amen. 01:43 Amen. Thanks, Aunty Cecily. 01:45 Now, let's find out 01:48 what our next key to the kingdom is. 01:50 Liana, are you able to open that for us? 01:55 Can you tell us what's on the key? 01:58 Hold it up, so we can see. 02:00 Grow to be like Jesus. 02:01 Oh, okay, can you switch it over 02:04 and let's see what the memory verse says. 02:06 Ephesians 4:15. 02:09 Sophie, can you look that up for us 02:11 and read it to us from the Bible? 02:13 "Speaking the truth in love 02:15 may grow up in all things into Him 02:17 who is the head, Christ. 02:19 Thanks, Sophie. 02:21 Aunty, Cecily, can you tell us more about this key? 02:23 Yes. 02:25 Remember last Sabbath we discovered that 02:27 being a Christian means to follow Christ 02:30 and His example of life and service. 02:33 Well, today we're going to learn more of 02:35 what it means to grow to be like Jesus. 02:39 When we were babies, we had a lot of growing to do, 02:42 didn't we? 02:43 And when we're baby Christians, 02:45 we have a lot of growing to do too. 02:47 The Bible talks about growing in John 15:4-5. 02:52 Jesus said, "Abide in Me and I in you, 02:56 as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself 03:00 unless it abides in the vine, 03:02 neither can you, unless you abide in Me." 03:07 I'm the vine and you are the branches. 03:10 "He who abides in Me and I in him bears much fruit. 03:16 For without Me, you can do nothing." 03:19 Now I have a picture here of a grapevine, 03:23 with fruit on it. 03:25 Sophie, would the fruit grow on the branches, 03:29 if it wasn't connected to the vine? 03:31 No. 03:32 What would happen to it? It would die. 03:34 Yes, that's right. 03:36 So if we want to grow to be like Jesus, 03:39 we must be connected to Jesus. 03:42 Later in our study 03:43 we'll learn about Elijah's willingness 03:45 to obey God 03:46 and how God gave him the courage to stand up 03:50 for what was right and follow his instructions. 03:53 Growing to be like Jesus, 03:56 we too can do great things for God as well. 03:59 Philippians 4:13 says, 04:02 "I can do all things through Christ 04:04 who strengthens me." 04:06 Jesus came to this earth as a baby. 04:09 And like you and me, 04:11 He had to grow up into a child and then an adult. 04:15 Jesus prayed and spoke to His Father 04:17 all the time. 04:19 And that's one way we can grow to be like Jesus. 04:22 If we listen to Him and obey, 04:25 we'll naturally bear fruit, 04:27 just the same way that grapes will appear 04:30 on a healthy grapevine. 04:33 Galatians 5:22-23 says 04:36 that when we stay connected to God through His Holy Spirit, 04:40 like the branches to the vine, 04:42 we will bear the fruit of love, and joy, and peace, 04:46 and patience, gentleness, and meekness, 04:49 and kindness, and self control. 04:52 So this Sabbath, as we spend time with the King, 04:56 we need to ask for the desire 04:58 and the power to grow to be more and more like Jesus. 05:02 Thanks, Aunty Cecily. 05:03 We can all ask God to help us to grow more like Jesus. 05:07 Do you know what? 05:09 I can say that Braedan has arrived to help us 05:10 with our worship time. 05:12 Thanks, Braedan. Thanks, Aunty Nat. 05:14 Hi, boys and girls. 05:15 I hope you're up for a challenge today 05:17 because we're going to sing "The Books of the Bible." 05:21 Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers 05:25 Deuteronomy, Joshua Judges, Ruth 05:29 1st and 2nd Samuel 1st and 2nd Kings 05:33 1st and 2nd Chronicles 05:37 Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job 05:40 Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes 05:44 Song of Solomon Isaiah, Jeremiah 05:47 Lamentations, Ezekiel 05:51 Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos 05:55 Obadiah, Jonah, Micah 05:58 Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai 06:02 Zechariah, Malachi 06:05 Matthew, Mark, Luke and John 06:09 Acts, Romans, 1st and 2nd Corinthians 06:12 Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians 06:16 1st and 2nd Thessalonians 06:20 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus, Philemon 06:23 Hebrews, James, 1st and 2nd Peter 06:27 1st and 2nd, 3rd John, Jude and Revelation 06:30 That's the Old and New Testament 06:32 Amen! 06:35 Braedan, can we please sing "The B-I-B-L-E." 06:38 We certainly can. 06:41 The B-I-B-L-E Yes, that's the book for me 06:46 I stand alone on the word of God 06:49 The B-I-B-L-E 06:51 The B-I-B-L-E Yes, that's the book for me 06:56 I stand alone on the word of God 06:59 The B-I-B-L-E 07:02 Braedan, can we please sing 07:03 "Read your Bible Pray Every day." 07:05 I love songs about the Bible. Let's sing it. 07:10 Read your Bible, pray every day 07:14 Pray every day, pray every day 07:18 Read your Bible, pray every day 07:22 And you'll grow, grow, grow 07:25 And you'll grow, grow, grow 07:29 And you'll grow, grow, grow 07:34 Read your Bible, pray every day 07:37 And you'll grow, grow, grow 07:41 Thanks, Braedan, that was wonderful. 07:44 Now Dr. John's back with another story. 07:47 Let's go and join him in his study. 07:49 Hello, boys and girls, 07:50 it's wonderful to see you again. 07:52 And this time, we are saying hello 07:55 to the boys and girls in America, the United States 07:59 because this story happened over there. 08:02 And it is about a girl 08:05 who died over 60 years ago, 08:10 but parts of her are still alive. 08:13 Her name was Henrietta. 08:16 And they called her Henny. 08:20 In fact her first name was Henny Pleasant. 08:24 She was so sweet. 08:26 But she was so poor, 08:28 and they were tobacco farmers. 08:30 I'm not sure that I would want to be a tobacco farmer 08:34 but they got almost no money. 08:37 In fact, 08:39 she got married because her mother died 08:42 and she had nowhere to go. 08:44 She was only 14 years old when she had her first baby. 08:49 And she ended up with five babies. 08:52 And because of the unhealthy living conditions, 08:57 she got sick and she went to hospital. 09:01 And they discovered that she had cancer, 09:05 and it was going to kill her. 09:07 Now it's not all doom and gloom. 09:10 A lot of people get cancer today. 09:12 We have wonderful treatments for cancer 09:15 because of Henrietta. 09:19 She died, and they took some cells from her body, 09:23 so they could put them under the microscope 09:26 and check to see what the problem was. 09:29 Now, everybody and you and I, 09:32 when they take our cells from our body 09:35 just by a little injection or a scrape on the skin, 09:39 our cells can only live for about two days, 09:45 and then they die. 09:47 You just can't keep them alive. 09:49 And they checked Henny's cells after two days, 09:53 they were still alive. 09:55 He put them away in the fridge 09:58 and about a week later, he had another look, 10:01 he saw something amazing, her cells was still living. 10:06 And they said, "This is strange. 10:08 We have never seen anybody like this." 10:11 And they kept those cells and they managed to grow them. 10:15 And almost every disease 10:17 that they are treating today from polio, 10:20 we don't get polio now, because they developed vaccines 10:24 because they're able to test cells 10:26 that weren't dying. 10:29 And every person who had polio, 10:33 and doesn't have it today can thanks Henrietta Lacks 10:38 and they call these cells, 10:40 HeLa cells from H-E, for Henrietta 10:44 and L-A for her surname Lacks 10:47 and they have grown over 20 tons of these cells. 10:53 They are used all over Australia 10:56 and Henrietta's cells are still living. 10:59 And she is the only person in history 11:03 with immortal cells. 11:07 And she knows nothing about... 11:09 They don't even know where her grave is. 11:12 They only had two photographs of her. 11:15 That is a very poor photograph. 11:19 Because the photograph I took this from 11:21 is a very poor one. 11:22 She has a sweet face, 11:24 she lived and died 11:26 without knowing that 11:28 she was going to save the lives 11:30 of millions, and millions, and millions of people. 11:35 How many of us are immortal? 11:38 We will be immortal when Jesus gives us life. 11:41 But He was living on this earth. 11:44 And Satan was doing everything he could to kill Him. 11:49 And we are told that Satan and all his angels 11:53 and the hosts of heaven were watching the day 11:57 that Jesus died on the cross. 11:59 Heaven was so sorry, 12:02 but Satan and his angels had a wild party 12:05 because they had killed Jesus, 12:07 He was put in a tomb and they had 12:09 the strongest soldiers in the world guarding it, 12:12 so nobody could steal the body. 12:14 And he said, Jesus is dead, I have won. 12:18 But Jesus had the immortal strength 12:21 within Him. 12:22 And He came back to life. 12:25 I tell you, the day 12:27 that Jesus walked out of that tomb, 12:31 Satan, knew that he was doomed. 12:35 By the fact that He came back to life 12:37 and He died for us, 12:39 He gave us the chance of immortality. 12:43 And I hope 12:44 that Henrietta Lacks 12:45 will come back to life one day. 12:47 I think she was a good woman, 12:49 and she will be with us in heaven. 12:51 Are you looking forward to that? 12:52 I certainly am. Thank you. 12:54 Hi, boys and girls. Welcome to our Bible study. 12:57 If you haven't got your Bibles ready yet, 12:58 go get them now 13:00 so you can follow along with us. 13:01 Matthew, can you please say a prayer for us 13:02 before we commence our study? 13:05 Dear Father, thank You for our Bibles. 13:07 Please help us to understand 13:09 what we are reading today 13:11 and may warm the hearts of those 13:13 who are joining us at home, 13:14 in Jesus' name, amen. 13:16 Thanks, Matthew. 13:17 Now, Sophie, what did we learn about last Sabbath? 13:20 That King Solomon followed the gods of his wives. 13:23 Yes, he did, didn't he? 13:25 And today we're going to look at what happened 13:28 as a result of Solomon, 13:30 allowing the worship of the idols in his kingdom. 13:34 Before Solomon died, his servant Jeroboam, 13:37 who was an officer of his labor force 13:39 was given a message from the Prophet Ahijah. 13:43 Let's see what he says. 13:45 Erin, can you please read 1 Kings 11:30-32? 13:50 "Then Ahijah took hold of the new garment 13:53 that was on him, and tore it into twelve pieces. 13:56 He said to Jeroboam, 'Take for yourself ten pieces,' 13:59 for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, 14:03 'Behold, I will tear the kingdom 14:05 out of the hand of Solomon 14:06 and will give ten tribes to you, 14:09 but he shall have one tribe 14:11 for the sake of My servant David, 14:15 and for the sake of Jerusalem, 14:16 the city which I have chosen 14:18 out of all the tribes of Israel.'" 14:20 So the prophecy that God pronounced on Solomon 14:23 that we looked at last Sabbath came true. 14:26 Let's see what else the prophet had to say. 14:28 Caleb, can you please read 1 Kings 11:37-38? 14:34 "So I will take you, 14:35 and you shall reign over all your heart desires, 14:39 and you shall be king over Israel. 14:42 Then it shall be, 14:43 if you heed all that I command you, 14:45 walk in My ways, 14:47 and do what is right in My sight, 14:49 to keep My statutes and My commandments, 14:53 as My servant David did, 14:55 then I will be with you and build for you 14:57 an enduring house, as I built for David, 15:00 and I will give Israel to you." 15:03 So God reassured Jeroboam 15:05 that if he followed Him and His commandments, 15:08 God would bless him. 15:10 A short time later, 15:12 Solomon died and Rehoboam, his son was proclaimed king. 15:16 But Jeroboam and Rehoboam 15:18 got into a disagreement about taxes. 15:21 And with this the split was made final, 15:23 Jeroboam and the 10 tribes split off from Rehoboam. 15:27 Aunty Cecily, can you just show us the map 15:29 that we have the northern tribe now, 15:32 which is the kingdom of Israel, all that there. 15:35 And then we have the southern tribe, 15:38 which was now the kingdom of Judah. 15:41 Okay, Bethany, can you please read 15:44 1 Kings 12:28-29? 15:50 "Therefore the king asked advice, 15:52 made two calves of gold, and said to the people, 15:55 'It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. 15:58 Here are your gods, O Israel, 15:59 which brought you up from the land of Egypt.' 16:01 And he set up one in Bethel, and the other one in Dan." 16:05 So Jeroboam had the opportunity to do good in Israel. 16:10 God promised he would be with him 16:12 if he followed His commandments but instead, 16:15 Jeroboam encouraged the people 16:16 to worship the golden calf, an idol. 16:20 God sent a prophet to warn King Jeroboam, of his sin, 16:24 but King Jeroboam did not repent, 16:26 he continued in his idol worship, 16:29 and lead the kingdom of Israel into apostasy. 16:33 He ruled for 22 years. 16:35 And after he died, six other kings followed him. 16:38 But the Bible tells us 16:40 they all did evil in the sight of the Lord. 16:43 And you can see here 16:44 that we have a chart of the kings 16:47 and you see Jeroboam the first there, 16:49 king of Israel, northern tribes, 16:52 and he died and six kings followed him 16:54 and they all did evil in the sight of the Lord. 16:58 Let's look at what's going on in the southern kingdom. 17:00 Sophie, can you please read 2 Chronicles 11:16-17? 17:06 "And after the Levites left, 17:08 those from all the tribes of Israel, 17:11 such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel, 17:15 came to Jerusalem 17:16 to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers. 17:19 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, 17:21 and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon 17:24 strong for three years, 17:25 because they walked in the way of 17:27 David and Solomon for three years." 17:31 So the people from the northern tribe 17:33 who wanted to worship God alone, 17:35 moved with the Levites to the southern kingdom. 17:38 And for the first three years Rehoboam's reign, all went well 17:43 as they followed God and did what was right. 17:46 But something happened. 17:47 Matthew, can you please read 2 Chronicles 12:1-2? 17:53 "Now it came to pass, 17:54 when Rehoboam had established the kingdom 17:57 and had strengthened himself, 17:59 that he forsook the law of the Lord, 18:01 and all Israel along with him. 18:04 And it happened in the fifth year 18:05 of King Rehoboam 18:07 that Shishak, the king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, 18:12 because they had transgressed against the Lord." 18:15 Good reading Matthew, thank you so much. 18:17 So Rehoboam started to worship idols. 18:21 And the king of Egypt came to attack Jerusalem. 18:24 God sent a prophet to warn Judah 18:26 of their apostasy. 18:28 This time the king and the people repented. 18:31 God heard this and calls the king of Egypt 18:34 not to destroy them, 18:36 but take away all the beautiful treasures 18:38 from the palace and the temple instead. 18:41 King Rehoboam did humble himself for a while, 18:45 but before he died, he returned to his evil ways. 18:48 His son Abijah ruled for three years, 18:51 but he did not follow God. 18:53 Asa his son then came to the throne. 18:55 Abigail, can you please read 2 Chronicles 14:2-4? 19:01 "Asa did what was good 19:02 and right in the eyes of the Lord his God, 19:04 for he removed the altars of the foreign gods 19:07 and the high places, 19:09 and broke down all sacred pillars 19:11 and cut down the wooden images. 19:13 He commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers, 19:16 and to observe the law and the commandment." 19:19 Wow. 19:20 So finally we have a king 19:22 who chose to follow and worship God 19:24 and he led the kingdom of Judah to do the same. 19:27 Now can you please find King Asa on our chart, 19:30 please, Aunt Cecily? 19:31 There, he is there. Okay. 19:33 Okay, so let's see what happened in Israel 19:36 in the northern kingdom. 19:37 And, Aunty Cecily, I'm going to get you 19:39 to read 1 Kings 16:29-30. 19:43 "In the 38th year of Asa king of Judah, 19:47 Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel, 19:51 and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel 19:55 in Samaria 22 years. 19:58 Now Ahab the son of Omri 20:00 did evil in the sight of the Lord, 20:02 more than all who were before him." 20:05 Can you show us where King Ahab is on the chart? 20:09 There, he is there. 20:10 Okay, Erin, 20:11 can you please read 1 Kings 16:31-32? 20:16 "And it came to pass, 20:17 as though it had been a trivial thing for him 20:20 to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, 20:23 that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, 20:28 king of the Sidonians. 20:29 And he went and served Baal and worshiped him. 20:33 And he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, 20:37 which he had built in Samaria." 20:39 So Ahab was a wicked king. 20:41 King Ahab and his wife Jezebel 20:43 brought Baal worship into the Israel big time. 20:47 Everywhere you looked in Israel, 20:49 there were temples and idol images 20:51 built to worship Baal and Ashtoreth. 20:54 Let's have a look at our torchlight, 20:56 Mrs. White's writings 20:57 to see what they shine on what we've been reading. 21:00 Caleb, can you do that for us please? 21:03 "Yet the Lord did not give Israel up 21:05 without first doing all that could be done 21:07 to lead them back to their allegiance to Him. 21:12 Through long, dark years 21:13 when ruler after ruler stood up in bold defiance of Heaven 21:17 and led Israel deeper and still deeper into idolatry, 21:21 God sent message after message to His backslidden people. 21:26 Through His prophets He gave them every opportunity 21:29 to stay the tide of apostasy and to return to Him." 21:33 Well done. Thanks, Caleb. 21:35 So God always has a plan. 21:38 He sends prophets and messengers 21:40 to warn His people. 21:42 Let's read about that. 21:43 Bethany, can you please read 1 Kings 17:1? 21:48 "And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, 21:51 said to Ahab, 21:53 'As the Lord God of Israel lives, 21:55 before whom I stand, 21:56 there shall not be dew nor rain these years, 21:59 except at my word.'" 22:02 So God sent a prophet named Elijah, 22:05 to warn King Ahab. 22:07 King Ahab and his wife Jezebel had led the people of Israel 22:11 to believe it was Baal 22:13 who provided the dew and rain to water the earth. 22:16 They worshiped not God their Creator, 22:19 but they worshiped the creation. 22:22 God wanted to show the people 22:23 it was Him alone that provided all their needs, 22:27 not a stone statue. 22:29 Let's look at our memory verse in Matthew 4:10, 22:33 and let's read that together. 22:35 And for the girls and boys at home, 22:36 Matthew is found in the New Testament. 22:40 Okay. 22:43 "For it is written, 22:45 you shall worship the Lord your God, 22:48 and Him only you shall serve." 22:53 Okay, let's see what God said to Elijah, 22:56 after He had delivered the message to King Ahab. 23:00 Sophie, can you please read that for us 23:02 in 1 Kings 17:3-4? 23:07 "Get away from here and turn eastward, 23:09 and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 23:12 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, 23:15 and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." 23:19 Do you think that King Ahab and Jezebel were angry, 23:22 when they heard the message delivered by Elijah? 23:24 Yes. Yes, they were. 23:26 They were furious, 23:27 and God wanted to hide Elijah to keep him safe. 23:31 Okay, let's find out more about those ravens. 23:33 Matthew, can you please read 1 Kings 17:5-6? 23:38 "So he went and did accordingly to the word of the Lord, 23:42 for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, 23:45 which flows into the Jordan. 23:47 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, 23:50 and bread and meat in the evening, 23:53 and he drank from the brook." 23:54 Wow. 23:55 So twice a day, God commanded the ravens to feed Elijah. 24:00 Pretty amazing, hey... 24:02 Because there was no rain, 24:04 the brooks and streams eventually started to dry up 24:07 and God sent Elijah up to Zarephath in Phoenicia, 24:10 where a widow would supply his daily needs. 24:14 Next Sabbath we'll show you a map 24:15 tracking Elijah's journey. 24:17 Thank you, boys and girls, for reading along with us. 24:20 We have a devotional available that goes into more depth 24:22 on what we studied today. 24:24 Here's how you can get that. 24:26 Hey, boys and girls, as Aunty Nat said, 24:28 you can get your own devotionals. 24:30 Yes, you can download them free from our website 24:32 at adaywiththeking.com. 24:33 And, Anna, we can't forget to tell the kids 24:35 to check out Teddy's blog. 24:37 We have some behind the scene photos 24:39 of filming the program. 24:40 Yes. 24:41 And we also have some photos of Teddy 24:43 going on his annual visit to the vet. 24:44 We love to hear where on the world 24:46 you're watching the program from, 24:47 so drop us a line and let us know. 24:49 Get a pen and write down our email address now, 24:52 dwk@3abnaustralia.org.au. 24:56 So hop online today! 24:59 Thanks, Kate and Anna. 25:00 Yes, boys and girls, we love to hear from you. 25:03 Aunty Nat, can you tell us 25:04 what we're going to be studying about next week? 25:06 Yes, next Sabbath we're going to study about 25:09 fire from heaven. 25:10 See if you can work out from your Bible 25:13 what we are going to look at next week. 25:15 Aunty Cecily, shall we go over a memory verse 25:17 from our Bible study today? 25:18 Yes. 25:19 Do you like to still say that together? 25:21 Matthew 4:10. 25:23 For it is written, 25:25 you shall worship the Lord your God, 25:28 and Him only you shall serve." 25:32 Well, children our worship time's 25:34 almost over again. 25:36 Sophie, what did you learn about the King today? 25:38 That God wants us to grow to be like Jesus. 25:41 Yes, He does. 25:43 And He wants us to pray every day 25:45 to ask Him for help 25:47 because we can't do it by ourselves. 25:50 Aunty Nat, do you think we're ready to sing our song 25:52 to the children at home? 25:54 I think we are. 25:55 Let's turn around and we can sing this, 25:57 our blessing song to the boys and girls at home. 26:04 May God bless you and keep you 26:09 And fill your heart with love 26:15 May God guide and protect you 26:20 And watch you from above 26:25 And Sabbath after Sabbath 26:30 We greet the day of rest 26:35 The day the King of glory 26:40 Has sanctified and blessed 26:45 Goodbye my friend till we meet again 26:51 For another day with the King 26:56 Goodbye!
