And what's on the farm. 01:07 There's chickens, goats and veggies. 01:09 Oh, that's wonderful. I love visiting farms. 01:13 And we've also got Teddy with us again on this sofa, 01:15 it's lovely to have you with us, Teddy. 01:19 Aunty Nat, could you please say a prayer for us 01:21 to open our worship time? 01:22 Sure, I'd love to. 01:24 Dearest Heavenly Father, 01:26 we just praise and thank Your name 01:27 that You've brought us safely through another week. 01:30 We thank You that we're all here 01:31 to open Your Sabbath with You. 01:33 And we ask a special blessing on the children 01:36 watching at home, in Jesus' name, amen. 01:39 Amen. Thanks, Aunty Nat. 01:41 Now, let's see 01:42 what our next key to the kingdom is. 01:44 Bethany, would you like to tell us? 01:49 Share God's love. And what's the text? 01:52 Matthew 20:28. Thanks, Bethany. 01:55 Ellen, could you please read that for us that text? 01:57 Sure. 01:59 "The Son of man did not come to be served, 02:01 but to serve, 02:02 and to give his life a ransom for many." 02:05 Thanks, Ellen. 02:07 Over the past two Sabbaths we've discovered 02:09 why it is important to follow Jesus 02:12 and to grow to be like Him. 02:15 One of the important ways we can follow Jesus' example 02:19 is to share God's love with others. 02:21 When we share God's love 02:23 through helping and caring for others, 02:25 really good things happen. 02:28 Those whose hearts are touched by us 02:30 sharing God's love with them, have heaven opened to them. 02:35 Also, when we share God's love with others, 02:37 it helps us to grow to be more like Jesus. 02:41 So there's nothing more exciting and satisfying 02:44 than sharing God's love. 02:46 Sharing God's love can be as simple as 02:49 what these children are doing. 02:51 This girl's helping somebody vacuuming. 02:54 You know, you could help somebody 02:55 who's elderly or not well, 02:57 and help them clean up their house. 03:00 Or you could help them with the washing up 03:03 or helping them in the garden 03:05 or there's a number of things you could do, isn't there? 03:08 So when we do things for others, 03:10 God is honored. 03:12 For it says in Matthew 5:16, 03:14 "Let your light shine before men, 03:17 that they may see your good works 03:19 and glorify your Father which is in heaven." 03:23 Later in our Bible study, 03:25 we'll learn of the service of Elijah, 03:27 and how he humbly stood for God in a great crisis, 03:32 and help draw the people of Israel back to God. 03:36 So as we spend time with the Kingly Sabbath, 03:39 let's ask Him for a spirit of love and service 03:42 to bless others in our family 03:44 and our neighborhood or perhaps at school. 03:47 Let's follow Jesus' example, and share God's love. 03:52 Thanks, Aunty Cecily. 03:53 Sharing God's love not only blesses others, 03:57 but is also a blessing to us. 03:59 I can see that Braedan is here. 04:01 And I thank you, Braden, 04:03 for sharing your music with us today. 04:06 Hi, boys and girls, let's sing "This is the day." 04:10 This is the day This is the day 04:14 That the Lord has made That the Lord has made 04:18 We will rejoice We will rejoice 04:21 And be glad in it And be glad in it 04:26 This is the day That the Lord has made 04:29 We will rejoice And be glad in it 04:33 This is the day, this is the day 04:37 That the Lord has made 04:41 This is the day, this is the day 04:44 That the Lord has made That the Lord has made 04:48 We will rejoice We will rejoice 04:52 And be glad in it And be glad in it 04:56 This is the day That the Lord has made 05:00 We will rejoice And be glad in it 05:04 This is the day, this is the day 05:07 That the Lord has made 05:13 Braedan, could we please sing "This little light of mine?" 05:15 We certainly can. 05:18 This little light of mine 05:21 I'm gonna let it shine 05:23 This little light of mine 05:25 I'm gonna let it shine 05:27 Let it shine, let it shine Let it shine 05:32 Don't let Satan blow it out 05:35 I'm gonna let it shine 05:37 Don't let Satan blow it out 05:40 I'm gonna let it shine 05:41 Let it shine Let it shine 05:44 Let it shine 05:48 Braedan, can we sing "Shine just where you are?" 05:51 We certainly can. Let's sing it together. 05:57 Shine, shine, just where you are 06:02 Shine, shine, just where you are 06:06 Send forth the light into the night 06:11 Shine for the Lord where you are And again. 06:15 Shine, shine, just where you are 06:19 Shine, shine, just where you are 06:24 Send forth the light into the night 06:28 Shine for the Lord where you are 06:33 Thanks, Braedan. 06:34 Won't it be wonderful 06:36 when we get to sing with the angels in heaven? 06:38 And now it's time for another story from Dr. John. 06:41 Do you want to see 06:42 what Dr. John's up to in his study? 06:45 Yes. 06:46 Well, let's go and find Dr. John. 06:48 Hello, boys and girls. 06:50 Isn't it wonderful to be back together? 06:52 And I want to say 06:54 hello to all the boys and girls in China 06:57 because when you have a name like Poon Lim, 07:01 you've got to be Chinese. 07:02 I got a picture of Poon Lim, 07:05 he was quite handsome. 07:07 Well dressed 07:09 but the last picture I show you in the story, 07:12 he doesn't look nearly as well dressed as this. 07:16 He worked on a boat 07:18 during the Second World War so this story happened 07:22 about 70 years ago, 07:24 and he was on a boat called the Benlomond. 07:28 He was second steward, 07:30 and he was having breakfast one day, 07:34 and he didn't realize 07:36 that a submarine had been following the boat 07:40 and aimed a torpedo and fired it. 07:45 And Poon Lim was having breakfast. 07:47 And all of a sudden, 07:49 there was a massive bang, 07:53 and he was blown off his seat 07:57 into the water. 07:59 And when he got to the surface and looked around, 08:03 he was the only person there, the only survivor. 08:07 He couldn't swim, 08:09 at least, he thought he couldn't swim, 08:11 he dog pedaled. 08:12 And he got on to a life raft. 08:15 And we actually have a picture of his life raft. 08:20 Just a little float and a roof. 08:24 He had just a little bit of water and some biscuits, 08:27 they only lasted a couple of days. 08:30 And then he got nothing. 08:31 Every time it rained, 08:33 he would gather the water there, 08:36 and the canvas. 08:38 He started to get hungry 08:39 so he undid a bit of the canvas, 08:42 and he made a fishing line. 08:45 And he got a bit of a torch 08:47 and he bent the wire round 08:50 and he made a fishing hook. 08:52 And he dangled it over the water, 08:54 but no fish were biting. 08:56 Why weren't the fish biting? 08:59 What do you need? 09:00 Bait. Right. 09:02 He had no bait. 09:04 What do you do when you got no bait? 09:09 He finally decided 09:10 he was going to have to use part of his body. 09:16 Which part would you use? 09:18 He had a knife made from a bit of tin. 09:22 There's always the ear. 09:26 There's always a toe. 09:29 He decided on a little finger. 09:32 And so he looked at it. 09:35 Goodbye finger. 09:37 Put it in his mouth 09:40 and it was gonna be really painful. 09:43 All of a sudden he heard a flap of wings 09:46 and it was a seagull, 09:48 landed just out of reach. 09:51 Very carefully he put his hand, 09:54 it took him nearly half an hour. 09:56 Slowly, slowly, and he grabbed it. 09:59 You got afraid. 10:00 You didn't get a biggest fright as a seagull. 10:04 It might sound a bit yucky but he drank the blood, 10:08 he now had bait and he started to catch fish. 10:13 And he kept a bit of bait every time 10:16 and he fished some more. 10:18 And every time it rained, 10:19 he would gather a bit 10:21 and he was on that boat, 10:24 that little life raft by himself 10:26 for 133 days. 10:30 He set a world record 10:33 and he finally was picked up by some fishermen 10:37 on the far side of the ocean. 10:40 Remember how handsome he was at the beginning? 10:43 He's grown a beard. 10:45 And his clothes are ragged 10:47 but because he was so smart, 10:51 he was able to walk ashore unassisted 10:56 and when he got home 10:57 because of his ability not to panic, 11:02 he was taken to England. 11:04 And he stood before the King of England, 11:08 who gave him the British Empire medal 11:11 for being smart, 11:13 and they got him to write a book on survival. 11:17 But you know why he lived? 11:21 Not just because he was smart. 11:23 He lived because he always believed 11:28 that he would live. 11:30 It is called faith. 11:32 He said, no matter what happens, 11:34 I will never ever give up the thought 11:37 that I will be saved. 11:39 Now, there's a lesson there for us. 11:43 We don't want to ever give up believing 11:46 that we'll be saved by the Lord Jesus Christ 11:48 'cause many people die, 11:50 because they haven't got their faith. 11:52 Thank you, boys and girls. 11:54 Hello, welcome back. It's time for our Bible study. 11:56 I hope you have your Bibles ready 11:58 so you can follow along with us. 12:00 Mia, can you please say a prayer for us 12:01 before we commence our study? 12:04 Dear Father, thank You for our Bibles 12:06 in which we can learn so much about You. 12:09 Help us to understand what we read in our Bibles, 12:13 please be with the children who are joining us at home. 12:17 In Jesus' name, amen. 12:18 Amen. Thank you, Mia. 12:20 Now, Erin, what did we learn about last Sabbath? 12:23 That the kingdom of Israel split in two, 12:26 after King Solomon died. 12:27 Yes it did, didn't it? 12:29 And who was the wicked king that brought in Baal worship? 12:31 King Ahab. 12:33 And who was the prophet that God sent? 12:35 Elijah. Elijah. 12:36 Thank you, Erin. 12:38 Well, now Elijah was a wanted man 12:41 and King Ahab had people out looking for him everywhere. 12:47 But at this time remember there was a drought 12:50 and it was very severe and we left off last week study 12:54 with God directing Elijah to go up to Zarephath 12:57 which was up in Phoenicia. 12:58 Can you just show us where that is, Aunty Cecily? 13:01 Way up there. 13:02 Thank you. 13:04 Now, Erin, you're gonna commence our reading today. 13:06 Can you please read 1 Kings 17:10-12? 13:10 "So he arose and went to Zarephath. 13:13 And when he came to the gate of the city, 13:16 indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. 13:18 And he called to her and said, 13:20 'Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.' 13:24 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, 13:27 'Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.' 13:30 So she said, 'As the Lord your God lives, 13:32 I do not have bread, 13:34 only a handful of flour in a bin, 13:36 and a little oil in a jar, 13:38 and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks 13:40 that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, 13:44 that we may eat it, and die.'" 13:46 Oh, dear. Things are not good. 13:48 Elijah told her not to be afraid 13:51 and reassured her 13:53 that her food would not run out. 13:54 Caleb, can you please read verses 15 to 16? 13:59 "So she went away 14:00 and did according to the word of Elijah, 14:03 and she and he and her household 14:05 ate for many days. 14:07 The bin of flour was not used up, 14:08 nor did the jar of oil run dry, 14:11 according to the word of the Lord 14:13 which He spoke by Elijah." 14:15 What an amazing miracle God performed. 14:18 Now after some time 14:21 the widow's only son got sick 14:24 and he died and she cried out in great distress to Elijah. 14:28 Let's see what Elijah does. 14:30 Bethany, can you please read 14:31 1 Kings 17:21-22? 14:35 "And he stretched himself out on the child three times, 14:38 and cried out to the Lord and said, 14:40 'O Lord my God, I pray, 14:42 let this child's soul come back to him.' 14:45 Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah, 14:47 and the soul of the child came back to him, 14:49 and he revived." 14:50 Wow, so God through Elijah raised the widow's son to life. 14:55 1 Kings 18:1 tells us 14:58 that the drought lasted three years. 15:01 And God told Elijah to go present himself to King Ahab, 15:06 which would have been somewhere down at Samaria. 15:09 Can you please show us Samaria, Aunty Cecily? 15:11 There we go, on the map. 15:13 Okay, Sophie, can you please read 15:15 1 Kings 18:17-19? 15:18 "Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, 15:21 that Ahab said to him 15:23 'Is that you, O troubler of Israel?' 15:25 And he answered, 'I have not troubled Israel, 15:28 but you and your father's house have, 15:30 in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord 15:33 and have followed the Baals. 15:35 Now therefore, 15:36 send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, 15:39 the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, 15:42 and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, 15:45 who eat at Jezebel's table.'" 15:46 So where was Elijah wanting everyone to go? 15:50 Mount Carmel. 15:52 Aunty Cecily, can you please show us 15:54 where Mount Carmel is on the map? 15:55 Way up there on the point. 15:57 So King Ahab summoned all of Israel to Mount Carmel. 16:02 Elijah spoke to the false prophets 16:04 and proposed a test 16:06 to see who was the true God. 16:08 Let's see what he said to them. 16:10 Matthew, can you please read 16:12 1 Kings 18:25-26? 16:15 "Now Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, 16:18 'Choose one bull for yourselves 16:20 and prepare it first, for you are many, 16:23 and call on the name of your god, 16:25 but put no fire under it.' 16:28 So they took the bull which was given them, 16:30 and they prepared it, 16:32 and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, 16:36 saying, 'O Baal, hear us!' 16:38 But there was no voice, no one answered. 16:46 Then they leaped about the altar 16:48 which they had made." 16:50 Yeah, well done, Matty. 16:51 So the false prophets prepared an altar 16:54 to their so called Baal god 16:56 and called out to him all morning 16:59 to come and consume their sacrifice. 17:02 Did he show up? 17:03 No. No. 17:05 Let's see what Elijah said to them. 17:06 Mia, can you read 1 Kings 18:27-29? 17:12 "And so it was, at noon, 17:13 that Elijah mocked them and said, 17:15 'Cry aloud, for he is a god, either he is meditating, 17:19 or he is busy, or he is on a journey, 17:21 or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened.' 17:25 So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, 17:27 as was their custom, with knives and lances, 17:31 until the blood gushed out on them. 17:34 And when midday was past, 17:36 they prophesied until the time of the offering 17:40 of the evening sacrifice. 17:41 But there was no voice, no one answered, 17:44 no one paid attention." 17:46 Wow, so those false prophets got themselves 17:48 so worked up around their altar, 17:50 they actually cut themselves and screamed 17:53 and carried on until they were absolutely exhausted. 17:56 Their behavior really shocked the Israelites 17:59 and they've finally realized what they had been worshipping. 18:03 If we were to read on 18:05 Elijah called the people to come close to him, 18:07 and he quietly and reverently prepared his altar, 18:11 he got three lots of water 18:13 and poured it all over the sacrifice. 18:15 Let's see what happened. 18:17 Aunty Cecily, can you please read 18:18 1 Kings 18:36-37? 18:23 "And it came to pass, 18:24 at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, 18:28 that Elijah the prophet came near and said, 18:32 'Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, 18:35 let it be known this day that You are God in Israel 18:40 and I am Your servant, 18:42 and that I have done all these things at Your word. 18:46 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, 18:48 that this people may know that You are the Lord God, 18:53 and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." 18:57 Now, did Elijah leap and yell around his altar? 19:00 No. No. 19:02 He just knelt down and prayed to God. 19:04 Erin, can you please read 1 Kings 18:38-39? 19:09 "Then the fire of the Lord fell 19:11 and consumed the burnt sacrifice, 19:13 and the wood and the stones and the dust, 19:16 and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 19:19 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces, 19:22 and they said, 'The Lord, He is God! 19:24 The Lord, He is God.'" 19:26 Wow. 19:27 So God accepted the sacrifice, 19:28 and God's fire came down from heaven, 19:32 and He even burnt up the stones and the water. 19:35 All of Israel finally repented 19:37 and acknowledged God as the true God. 19:41 Even though the false prophets witness the great power of God, 19:45 they still chose not to repent and they died for their sins. 19:49 If we were to continue to read, 19:51 Elijah went and prayed to God to send the long awaited rain. 19:55 Let's see what Elijah told his servant. 19:58 Caleb, can you please read 1 Kings 18:43-44? 20:03 "And said to his servant, 20:05 'Go up now, look toward the sea.' 20:07 So he went up and looked, and said, 'There is nothing.' 20:11 And seven times he said, 'Go again.' 20:13 Then it came to pass the seventh time, 20:15 that he said, 20:16 'There is a cloud, as small as a man's hand, 20:18 rising out of the sea!' 20:20 So he said, 'Go up, say to Ahab, 20:23 'Prepare your chariot, 20:25 and go down before the rain stops you.'" 20:27 Wow. 20:28 So Elijah prayed how many times? 20:30 Seven. 20:32 Seven times before his servants came back and told him 20:35 that he could see a dark rain cloud 20:38 in the distance. 20:39 Elijah persevered in prayer and didn't give up. 20:42 Let's have a look at our memory verse 20:44 in Colossians 4:2. 20:46 And for the boys and girls at home 20:48 Colossians is in the New Testament. 20:50 Let's read that together. 20:52 "Continue earnestly in prayer, 20:55 being vigilant in it with thanksgiving." 20:59 So we are also encouraged to pray 21:02 and not to give up. 21:04 Well, the rains came and the drought was broken. 21:07 When King Ahab told Jezebel that her prophets had failed, 21:11 she was furious. 21:14 Jezebel was so angry 21:16 that she threatened to have Elijah killed. 21:19 When Elijah heard the news, 21:20 he ran all the way to Beersheba. 21:24 Let's have a look at on our map, 21:25 Aunty Cecily, can you show us Jezreel 21:28 and he ran all the way down to Beersheba, 21:31 which is about 140 kilometers. 21:33 Where he left his servant 21:35 and then he went a day's journey 21:37 out further in the wilderness. 21:39 Bethany, can you please read 1 Kings 19:5-6? 21:44 "Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, 21:46 suddenly an angel touched him, and said, 'Arise and eat.' 21:50 Then he looked, 21:51 and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, 21:55 and a jar of water. 21:56 So he ate and drank, and lay down again." 21:59 Thanks, Bethany. 22:00 So God in His mercy sent an angel to minister to Elijah. 22:04 Verse 7 tells us the angel fed Elijah a second time. 22:09 The food the angel gave Elijah was so good 22:13 that it sustained him for 40 days, 22:15 as he traveled to Mount Horeb, 22:17 or Mount Sinai as it is known. 22:20 Here God spoke to Elijah 22:22 and told him that he had more work for Elijah to do. 22:26 Even though Elijah ran away, 22:28 God still loved him 22:30 and still wanted to work through him. 22:33 Let's have a look at our torchlight, 22:35 Mrs. White's writings to see what those shine 22:37 on what we've been reading. 22:39 Sophie, can you read that for us please? 22:42 "He who was Elijah's strength is strong to uphold 22:45 every struggling child of His, no matter how weak. 22:48 Of everyone He expects loyalty, 22:51 and to everyone He grants power according to the need. 22:54 In his own strength man is strengthless, 22:56 but in the might of God 22:57 he may be strong to overcome evil 23:00 and to help others to overcome. 23:02 Satan can never gain advantage of him 23:05 who makes God his defense." 23:07 Thanks, Sophie. 23:09 What an encouragement to us. 23:11 Thank you, boys and girls, for reading along with us. 23:13 We have a devotional available that goes into more depth 23:16 in what we studied today. 23:18 Here's how you can get that. 23:20 Hey, boys and girls, as Aunty Nat said, 23:22 you can get your own devotionals. 23:23 Yes, you can download them free 23:24 from our website at adaywiththeking.com 23:27 And, Anna, we can't forget to tell the kids 23:29 to check out Teddy's blog. 23:30 We have some behind the scene photos 23:32 of filming the program. 23:33 Yes. 23:35 And we also have some photos of Teddy going 23:36 on his annual visit to the vet. 23:38 We love to hear where on the world 23:40 you're watching the program from, 23:41 so drop us a line and let us know. 23:43 Get a pen and write down our email address now, 23:46 dwk@3abnaustralia.org.au. 23:50 So hop online today! 23:52 Thanks, Kate and Anna.
