00:02 Hello, there. Happy Sabbath.
00:03 Come on in. We're about to meet with the King. 00:52 Hello, I'm Aunty Cecily. 00:54 And I'm Aunty Nat. 00:55 It's a blessing to have you back with us 00:57 to be a part of our worship. 01:00 Have you all had a good week? 01:02 Yes! 01:03 Aunty Nat, how's your week been? 01:05 Do you have a blessing to share with us? 01:07 Yes, I would like to share a blessing. 01:09 I want the girls and boys at home 01:11 to know a bit more about Teddy. 01:14 Teddy sits so quietly on this couch, 01:16 week in and week out. 01:18 And we say hello to him every week. 01:21 But God sent Teddy to us out of the blue. 01:24 He was found on the side of the road, 01:26 and we believe he was dumped 01:28 as some other animals were found in the same place 01:31 over several weeks. 01:33 So God brought Teddy into our lives, 01:37 I believe, particularly for this program. 01:40 He is such a good bunny. 01:42 From day one, he has sat here quietly. 01:45 He has never jumped off the couch. 01:48 Yet, if he sits on the couch at home, 01:50 he jumps off straightaway 01:52 and runs around the lounge room. 01:53 Teddy was an answer to Aunty Nat's prayers. 01:57 God is so faithful. 01:59 So I just wanted to share that blessing with you 02:02 because I feel so blessed. 02:04 Oh, yes. 02:05 He certainly is a blessing, 02:06 and I've really enjoyed becoming friends with Teddy. 02:10 Joey, can you open our worship time 02:12 with a prayer, please? 02:13 Dear Father, thank You so much for the Sabbath day. 02:17 Thank You for the many blessings 02:19 You have sent us this past week. 02:22 Thank You for sending Teddy to us. 02:25 We love You, Lord. 02:26 In Jesus' name, amen. 02:27 Amen. Amen. 02:30 Would you like to know 02:31 what our next key to the kingdom is? 02:34 Yes. 02:35 Let's ask Abby if she'd open our gift box 02:38 and tell us what our key says. 02:42 Witnessing. 02:44 So witnessing is the gift that God offers to give us. 02:47 And what's the text? 02:49 2 Corinthians 3:2. 02:51 Thanks, Abby. 02:52 Bryce, would you read that for us, please? 02:55 "You are our epistle written in our hearts, 02:58 known and read by all men." 03:00 Thanks, Bryce. 03:01 We're God's epistle 03:03 or letter to the world 03:05 just like this letter in this envelope. 03:08 And when we read a letter, 03:11 we get information about things, 03:13 don't we? 03:14 Just like you can read a letter, 03:16 our lives are read by everyone we come in contact with. 03:20 And people will decide what God is like 03:23 from how we act and the things we say. 03:27 Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came to give us life 03:31 and to give it more abundantly. 03:34 Now happy Christians are a good advertisement 03:37 for Jesus, 03:38 but unhappy Christians 03:40 are not a very good advertisement at all. 03:43 That makes being a Christian a very important responsibility 03:47 to be happy, and cooperative, and patient, and kind, 03:51 and caring for others. 03:54 Our lives and how we behave and how we treat people 03:58 and how we spend our time and money, 04:01 even how we dress and present ourselves, 04:03 or send a message to others 04:05 as to whether or not it's worth following Jesus. 04:10 Remember the wonderful miracle that happened to Naaman? 04:13 Because of the witness of the little maid, 04:15 well, later on in our lesson with Aunty Nat, 04:18 we're going to learn what happened to Jonah 04:21 when he, at first, refused to witness for God. 04:25 Is there some way, Bryce, 04:27 in which you can show what Jesus is like? 04:29 Do something nice to someone. 04:32 Yes, Bryce, that's a nice way. 04:34 There are other ways to witness too, 04:37 like singing to people about Jesus' love 04:40 or even sharing one of our devotionals 04:42 with a friend. 04:44 These ways will always be more successful, 04:46 if our lives are happy 04:48 and we're thoughtful and kind to others. 04:50 So remember, you're always on the show 04:53 as a Christian 04:54 and your witness is important in helping others find Jesus. 04:59 So let's ask God to send us the gift of witnessing. 05:03 Amen, Cecily. Thank you so much. 05:07 Our key to the kingdom today gives us a lot to think about. 05:10 We need to shine our light for Jesus, 05:13 so people can see Him in us. 05:16 We need to sing some songs about that. 05:18 Thanks, Braedan, 05:20 for coming to help us do just that. 05:22 Thanks, Aunty Nat. Hi, boys and girls. 05:24 Let's sing "We're a Band of Happy Children." 05:31 We're a band of happy children 05:35 Trusting Jesus, trusting Jesus 05:39 On the path that leads to heaven 05:43 Trusting all the way 05:47 Zion's hill we're bravery climbing 05:51 Trusting Jesus, trusting Jesus 05:55 Guided by our glorious captain 05:59 Trusting all the way 06:03 We're a band of happy children 06:07 Trusting Jesus, trusting Jesus 06:11 On the path that leads to heaven 06:15 Trusting all the way 06:20 Braedan, can we please sing 06:22 "Rise and Shine, Boys and Girls?" 06:24 We certainly can. 06:27 Rise and shine, boys and girls 06:30 Sing and smile and pray 06:34 Gladly look in the book 06:38 Let it light your way 06:41 Do your best, show the rest 06:45 Jesus lives inside 06:49 Rise and sing, boys and girls 06:53 Shine out far and wide 06:58 Braedan, can we please sing "I Have the Joy?" 07:00 That's one of my favorites. Let's sing it together. 07:04 I have the joy, joy, joy, joy 07:07 Down in my heart Down in my heart 07:11 Down in my heart I have the joy, joy, joy, joy 07:16 Down in my heart Down in my heart to stay! 07:21 I have the peace that passes understanding 07:24 Down in my heart 07:26 Down in my heart Down in my heart 07:29 I have the peace that passes understanding 07:32 Down in my heart Down in my heart to stay! 07:39 Thanks, Braedan. 07:40 We really enjoy your company and your music 07:42 in our worship time. 07:44 And we never get tired of Dr. John stories, do we? 07:48 Let's go and see if he has another one for us. 07:52 Hello, boys and girls. 07:53 It's wonderful to be back together again. 07:56 And I want to say hello to all the boys and girls 07:59 around the world. 08:00 I know that you watch A Day with the King. 08:03 You know, I love the Bible. 08:05 But there are some strange stories 08:07 and there are many scientists who hate the Bible, 08:11 and they use one story in particular to say, 08:16 "What a made up story? It could never happen." 08:19 It is the story of Jonah, Jonah the son of Amittai 08:24 who was swallowed by a whale. 08:27 And I have gone to a lot of trouble 08:29 to research a story about a man called James Bartley, 08:33 who was a crew member on a boat called the Star of the East. 08:37 And I know that the boat left New Zealand 08:42 in 1891 08:44 and sailed across the Pacific Ocean 08:46 around the bottom of South America 08:49 and was up near the Falkland Islands, 08:52 when they spotted the whale. 08:54 Now in those days, 08:55 you went hunting for a whale in a small boat 08:58 and a big spear, 09:00 and a whale is still the largest creature 09:04 that God has ever made. 09:06 They are huge. 09:07 Look at all the men there and they chased it in a boat. 09:12 The boat was only half as long as the whale. 09:15 And when they got close, 09:17 they threw a spear into the whale 09:19 and it dived right down. 09:22 They can go down about 1,000 meters. 09:26 And then it came up, that's called sounding. 09:30 He came out so fast. 09:32 And as he came up, his tail hit the boat. 09:36 And the boat went up in the air 09:38 and all the sailors inside went up in the air 09:41 and one person went up just a little bit 09:44 higher than the rest. 09:47 That was James Bartley. 09:50 And as he was falling, he looked down and he saw... 09:54 This would really be terrified. 09:56 A great big mouth just open up and he fell in feet first. 10:03 He felt himself being sucked 10:06 into a big sack, like a bag. 10:10 And it was warm. 10:12 It was very stinky and hot. 10:18 The warmth went hotter and hotter. 10:21 He felt some fish. 10:25 And he suddenly realized, 10:27 he had been swallowed by a whale. 10:30 I couldn't imagine much worse than that. 10:33 And all the men in the boats, they rode back to the boats, 10:36 and they said, "James Bartley is dead. 10:40 He's been swallowed by the whale." 10:44 Well, later that evening, 10:46 a dead whale floated to the surface. 10:49 And they pulled it on to the boat 10:52 and they started to cut it up. 10:54 It's called flensing. 10:56 And as they're cutting off the flesh, 10:58 because they used to use the oil to make fuel. 11:04 And as they cut it open, 11:06 they got down to the stomach and they said, 11:09 "This might be the whale that swallowed James Bartley." 11:12 So they got to the stomach 11:14 and they carefully slit it open 11:17 and out flopped James Bartley. 11:21 He had been so terrorized by what was happening. 11:25 He'd gone a little bit mad. 11:28 And then he went unconscious, 11:29 and it took two weeks 11:30 before he could even talk about it. 11:32 He was just shaking. 11:34 And he recovered. 11:36 He never looked the same again. 11:40 Some reports said that he went very pale in his skin. 11:44 Others said his skin went rather yellow 11:47 because the digestive juices in the whale 11:50 were starting to work on him." 11:51 But you know, it was a true story. 11:55 And I am so glad that I finally, 11:59 and it took a lot of research, 12:02 I found a picture of James Bartley. 12:05 He went back. He lived for another 29 years. 12:10 You know what? 12:11 He never, ever, ever went back in the ocean. 12:17 He had had enough. He worked on the shore. 12:20 And there is a cemetery in Gloucester, 12:23 and he's buried there. 12:24 And it says, "James Bartley, the man swallowed by a whale." 12:29 And even though people will try to prove to you 12:32 that it is impossible, 12:35 whales can swallow very big squid. 12:39 It could never have happened. 12:41 I believe it because 12:42 Jonah the son of Amittai in the Bible 12:46 was swallowed by a whale to teach him a lesson, 12:49 so he could work for God. 12:51 And the Bible is true. 12:53 I hope you don't learn a lesson like that though. 12:55 Thank you, boys and girls. 12:58 Come in and join us for our Bible study. 13:00 Don't forget to grab your Bible, 13:01 so you can follow along with us. 13:03 Caleb, can you please say a prayer for us 13:05 before we commence our study? 13:07 Dear Father, thank You for the blessings 13:09 You give us every day. 13:10 Please let Your love and light shine through us. 13:13 Be with us as we read our Bibles. 13:15 In Jesus' name, amen. Amen. 13:17 Thank you, Caleb. 13:19 Now, Abby, what did we study about last Sabbath? 13:22 Captain Naaman and his healing from leprosy. 13:25 Yes. And who was the person who told him about Elisha? 13:28 The little maid. The little made. 13:30 Yes, she showed great faith. 13:32 Today, we're going to study about another prophet 13:35 that was raised up to do a work for Him. 13:37 But first, let's have a look at what those kings were up to 13:42 during this time. 13:43 Now last Sabbath, 13:44 we found out that King Jehoahaz was a wicked king. 13:48 He died and his son Jehoash or Joash, 13:51 as he was known, came to the throne. 13:53 Can you just show us that, Aunty Cecily? 13:56 Okay. Erin, can you please read 2 Kings 13:10 to 11? 14:01 "In the 37th year of Joash, king of Judah, 14:04 Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz 14:08 became king over Israel in Samaria, 14:10 and reigned 16 years. 14:13 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. 14:16 And he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam 14:19 the son of Nebat, 14:20 who made Israel sin, but walked in them." 14:24 So Jehoash was no better than his father. 14:27 Even though Jehoash didn't follow the Lord, 14:30 when Elisha was sick, 14:32 he went to seek counsel from him 14:34 regarding the king of Syria. 14:36 Jehoash realized that 14:38 Elisha had been such an asset to Israel. 14:41 But after 50 years of ministry, Elisha died. 14:45 Caleb, can you read about that? 14:47 Can you read 2 Kings 13:20 to 21? 14:51 "Then Elisha died, and they buried him. 14:55 And the raiding bands from Moab 14:57 invaded the land in the spring of the year. 15:02 So it was, as they were burying a man, 15:06 that suddenly they spied a band of raiders, 15:10 and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha. 15:13 And where the man was let down 15:15 and touched the bones of Elisha, 15:17 he revived and stood on his feet." 15:19 Wow! 15:21 So Elisha was so full of the Holy Spirit. 15:23 Remember, he asked for a double portion 15:25 that even his dead bones had power. 15:29 When that dead body touched Elisha's bones, 15:31 the man was resurrected to life. 15:34 What a miracle! Okay. 15:36 So King Jehoash or Joash died 15:39 and his son Jeroboam II came to the throne. 15:43 And it was during this time 15:44 that God called Jonah, the prophet. 15:47 Can you just show us that on the chart? 15:50 There we go. 15:53 So let's go over to the Book of Jonah now. 15:56 Bethany, can you please read Jonah 1:1 to 3? 16:03 "Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah 16:05 the son of Amittai, 16:06 saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, 16:09 and cry out against it. 16:11 For their wickedness has come up before Me.' 16:14 But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish 16:16 from the presence of the Lord. 16:18 He went down to Joppa 16:19 and found a ship going to Tarshish. 16:21 So he paid the fare 16:23 and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish 16:25 from the presence of the Lord." 16:27 Thanks, Bethany. 16:28 So Jonah was asked to go and preach 16:30 in the city of Nineveh. 16:32 Let's look at our map here. 16:33 Aunty Cecily is holding it for us. 16:35 So Nineveh is up here in Assyria, 16:37 which is about 800 kilometers away, 16:39 which is now modern-day Iraq. 16:41 We just read the city was very wicked. 16:44 But verse 3 tells us that Jonah, instead of obeying God, 16:49 goes to the sea port at Joppa 16:52 and takes the first ship sailing to Tarshish, 16:55 which is way over here now in modern-day Spain. 16:58 Tarshish was five times the distance away from Nineveh 17:02 where he was supposed to go. 17:04 Let's see what happens. 17:06 Abigail, can you please read Jonah 1:4 to 5? 17:10 "But the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, 17:13 and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, 17:16 so that the ship was about to be broken up. 17:19 Then the mariners were afraid, 17:21 and every man cried out to his God, 17:24 and threw the cargo that was on the ship 17:26 into the sea to lighten the load. 17:29 But Jonah had gone down 17:30 into the lowest parts of the ship, 17:32 he had lain down, and was fast asleep." 17:38 So while all this was happening, 17:41 Jonah was sleeping. 17:42 But the captain finds him and tells him 17:44 to start praying to his God to save them. 17:47 The Bible tells us the crew found out that 17:49 Jonah was the trouble for the storm. 17:52 Let's see what they say to Jonah. 17:54 Matthew, can you read Jonah 1:11 to 12? 17:58 "'Then they said to him, 18:00 'What shall we do to you 18:02 that the sea may be calm for us?' 18:05 For the sea was growing more tempestuous. 18:08 And he said to them, 18:09 'Pick me up and throw me into the sea, 18:12 then the sea will become calm for you. 18:15 For I know that 18:17 this great tempest is because of me.'" 18:21 So the crew didn't want to throw Jonah in the sea 18:24 and they battle along for a while, 18:26 but the sea got worse. 18:28 They cried out to Jonah's God 18:30 to forgive them for what they were going to do. 18:32 Mia, can you read Jonah 1:15 to 16? 18:36 "So they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, 18:39 and the sea ceased from its raging. 18:42 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly 18:46 and offered a sacrifice to the Lord and took vows." 18:50 Wow! 18:51 So when the crew saw 18:52 how quickly the storm had calmed down, 18:55 they believed in Jonah's God and worshiped Him. 18:58 So now Jonah is in the sea. 19:01 Let's see what happens. 19:02 Aunty Cecily, can you read Jonah 1:17 and 2:1? 19:06 "Now the Lord had prepared a great fish 19:08 to swallow Jonah. 19:10 And Jonah was in the belly of the fish 19:13 three days and three nights. 19:15 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord, his God from the fish's belly." 19:19 Wow! What a miracle God performed to save Jonah! 19:23 Now imagine, 19:24 you're in the stomach of a fish. 19:27 It'd be very dark, smelly, and probably very tight. 19:30 There wouldn't be much room to move around. 19:33 What do you think Jonah did in this situation? 19:36 What do you think he did? Prayed. 19:37 He prayed. 19:39 And Chapter 2 of Jonah records his prayer. 19:42 Let's see what God does. Erin, can you read Jonah 2:10? 19:47 "So the Lord spoke to the fish 19:49 and it vomited Jonah onto dry land." 19:52 Now we don't know where 19:53 along the stretch of coast of Israel 19:55 that the fish delivered Jonah to. 19:57 But I imagine that once that happened 19:58 that Jonah had a bit of time for recuperation 20:01 after his ordeal. 20:03 Okay, Caleb, 20:04 can you please read Jonah 3:1 to 2? 20:08 "Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time 20:12 saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city 20:16 and preach to it the message I tell you.'" 20:21 So God was not finished with Jonah. 20:24 He was giving him a second chance. 20:26 Do you think he was obedient at this time? 20:28 Yes. Oh, we'll wait and see. 20:30 Bethany, can you read Jonah 3:3 to 4? 20:33 "So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh 20:35 according to the word of the Lord. 20:37 Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, 20:39 a three-day journey in extent. 20:41 And Jonah began to enter the city 20:44 on the first day's walk. 20:45 Then he cried out and said, 'Yet forty days, 20:47 and Nineveh shall be overthrown!'" 20:50 Oh, phew, finally! So Jonah finally went. 20:53 Hurray! 20:55 Nineveh was a very big and beautiful city 20:58 which took three days to travel through. 21:01 God gave Jonah a message to warn Nineveh. 21:04 If they didn't repent of their wickedness in 40 days, 21:08 the city would be destroyed. 21:10 And guess what? 21:12 The people and even the king 21:14 believed the message and repented. 21:16 Abigail, can you read Jonah 3:10? 21:20 "Then God saw their works 21:22 that they had turned from their evil way, 21:24 and God relented from the disaster 21:27 that He had said He would bring upon them, 21:30 and He did not do it." 21:32 So because they repented, 21:34 God decided not to destroy the city of Nineveh. 21:37 Praise the Lord. 21:39 But 4:1 tells us that Jonah was not happy 21:43 that Nineveh was spared. 21:45 He was more worried about his reputation 21:47 as a prophet. 21:48 Let's have a look at our torchlight, 21:50 Mrs. White's writings to see what they shine on this verse. 21:54 Matthew, can you read that for us? 21:57 "Confused, humiliated, 21:59 and unable to understand God's purpose 22:02 in sparing Nineveh, 22:03 Jonah nevertheless 22:05 had fulfilled the commission given him 22:07 to warn the great city. 22:09 And though the event predicted did not come to pass, 22:14 yet the message of warning was nonetheless from God. 22:18 And it accomplished the purpose God designed it should." 22:22 Thanks, Matthew. 22:23 So God was able to use Jonah 22:25 despite his foibles or his personality. 22:28 And God's grace, and mercy, and love 22:30 was able to be shone into the city in a faraway land 22:34 that had no knowledge of the true and living God. 22:38 Okay. 22:39 Let's have a look at the Kings again 22:41 from the northern kingdom of Israel. 22:43 After Jeroboam II, 22:44 there were six more kings that came to power, 22:49 and all six of them were evil. 22:51 During that time, God sent two more prophets, 22:55 Hosea and Amos to warn the kingdom of Israel 22:59 that what would happen 23:00 if they continued in their idolatry. 23:03 Mia, can you please read 2 Kings 17:6? 23:08 "In the ninth year of Hoshea, 23:10 the king of Assyria took Samaria 23:12 and carried Israel away to Assyria 23:15 and placed them in Halah 23:17 and by the Habor the River of Gozan 23:22 and in the city of the Medes." 23:26 Medes. 23:27 So the northern kingdom of Israel 23:29 now cease to exist. 23:31 After 200 years and 20 kings, 23:35 the northern kingdom failed to remove idol worship 23:38 completely from the kingdom. 23:40 In the end, they chose not to repent 23:43 and turn back to God. 23:45 Let's have a look at a verse that God asks us to do. 23:48 Let's have a look at our memory verse 23:50 in Joshua 22:5. 23:53 And we're going to read that together. 23:57 "But take careful heed to Love the Lord your God, 24:02 to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, 24:06 to hold fast to Him, 24:08 and to serve Him with all your heart 24:11 and with all your soul." 24:13 What a sobering reminder for us. 24:15 We can learn from Israel's experience. 24:19 Thank you, boys and girls, for reading along with us. 24:21 We have a devotional available that goes into more depth 24:24 on what we studied today. 24:26 Here's how you can get that. 24:28 Hey, boys and girls. 24:29 As Aunty Nat said, 24:31 you can get your own devotionals. 24:32 Yes, you can download them free from our website 24:34 at adaywiththeking.com. 24:36 And, Anna, we can't forget to tell the kids 24:37 to check out Teddy's blog. 24:39 We have some behind the scene photos 24:40 of filming the program. 24:42 Yes. 24:43 And we also have some photos of Teddy 24:45 going on his annual visit to the vet. 24:47 We love to hear where on the world 24:48 you're watching the program from. 24:50 So drop us a line and let us know. 24:52 Get a pen and write down our email address now 24:55 dwk@3abnaustralia.org.au. 24:58 So hop online today. 25:01 Thanks, Kate and Anna. 25:03 Aunty Nat, what are we going to be studying next week? 25:05 Yes, next Sabbath, 25:07 we're going to have a closer look 25:08 at some more of those kings, one of whom was very young. 25:13 Come back next week to find out who that was. 25:16 Aunty Cecily, should we go over our memory verse? 25:18 Yes. Let's say it all together. 25:20 Joshua 22:5, 25:24 "But take careful heed to love the Lord your God, 25:29 to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, 25:34 to hold fast to Him, 25:36 and to serve Him with all your heart 25:39 and with all your soul." 25:42 That's a powerful memory verse. 25:44 But our worship time has gone by so quickly. 25:48 And, Bryce, what did you learn about the king today? 25:51 That you can never run away from God. 25:52 Oh, yes. 25:54 Jonah tried to do that, didn't he? 25:55 But God still reached his heart 25:58 even when he was in a fish's belly. 26:00 God goes to amazing efforts to use us to share His love. 26:05 I think it's time to sing our blessings song. 26:07 What do you think, Aunty Cecily? 26:09 Yes. Let's sing to the children at home. 26:11 So turn around. 26:19 May God bless you and keep you 26:24 And fill your heart with love 26:29 May God guide and protect you 26:34 And watch you from above 26:40 And Sabbath after Sabbath 26:45 We greet the day of rest 26:50 The day the King of glory 26:55 Has sanctified and blessed 27:00 Goodbye, my friend, till we meet again 27:05 For another day with the King 27:11 Goodbye! See you next Sabbath! 27:21 My favorite story in the Bible was Noah's Ark 27:24 because he obeyed God 27:26 and all the animals were saved in the ark. 27:30 My favorite story in the Bible is about the 12 spies 27:33 and how Caleb and Joshua stood up in front of everybody. 27:40 My favorite story in the Bible 27:41 is Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus 27:43 'cause He is the Savior of the world. |
