00:02 Hello there, happy Sabbath.
00:03 Come on in, we're about to meet with the King. 00:42 Welcome to our lounge room 00:44 at the commencement of another Sabbath day. 00:46 I'm Aunty Leah and we're so pleased 00:48 to have Uncle Daniel with us too. 00:51 Hello, Aunty Leah. 00:52 Hi, Uncle Daniel. 00:54 And hello to each one of you here with us. 00:56 I love the way you help out with our worship time. 00:59 Hello! 01:01 Is there anyone else you'd like to say hello to? 01:04 I would. Who's that? 01:06 I want to say hello to my friend Talitha. 01:08 She lives in Beaudesert in Queensland, Australia. 01:11 Hello, Talitha! 01:13 Bryce, would you please say a prayer for us 01:16 to invite Jesus to be with us today as we worship? 01:20 Dear, Lord, thank You 01:22 for keeping us safe this week. 01:23 Please be with us now in Jesus' name, amen. 01:26 Amen. 01:28 Thank you, Bryce. 01:29 Aunty Leah, 01:30 what clue to Bible prophecy do you have for us today? 01:34 Well, last week we learned about prophetic time. 01:38 Our jewel box contains another Bible gem 01:40 about prophetic time. 01:42 Who would like to find that? 01:43 I would. 01:49 Wow! 01:50 What does that lovely gemstone represent? 01:53 Ezekiel 4:6. 01:55 In this text, God tells to Prophet Ezekiel 01:58 to lie on his side for a set amount of time 02:01 as a symbol of what God is going to do 02:04 to rebellious Israelites. 02:06 Chemiah, would you please read that for us? 02:08 Sure. 02:11 "Lie again on your right side, 02:13 then you shall bear 02:14 the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days. 02:17 I have laid on you a day for each year." 02:21 Thank you. 02:22 Like our verse last week, God uses a day in prophecy 02:26 to represent one literal or one calendar year. 02:29 We need to work out some more time prophecies 02:32 which we'll use in the weeks ahead. 02:35 How long does one day in prophecy represent? 02:37 One year! 02:39 If a prophecy talked about seven days, 02:42 how long would that be? 02:43 Seven years! 02:45 Yes. 02:46 If a prophecy talked about one week 02:48 in prophetic time, 02:49 how many literal years would that equal? 02:52 Seven years! Yes. 02:54 Because one week equals seven days. 02:57 If the Bible talked about the middle of the week, 03:00 it would be talking about 03:01 halfway through the week, right? 03:03 So what is half of seven? 03:05 Three and a half! 03:07 If a prophecy talks about three and a half days, 03:10 how many years is it referring to in real time? 03:13 Three and a half years! 03:15 Very good. 03:17 We're going to learn about a prophecy 03:19 that is 70 weeks long. 03:21 Wow! 03:22 That's 70 times 7, which is 490 days. 03:26 So 490 prophetic days is how many years? 03:31 Four hundred and ninety years! 03:33 Excellent, guys. Good work. 03:35 In a few weeks time 03:37 these clues will help us to understand 03:39 a beautiful prophecy about Jesus. 03:42 Meanwhile, in today's Bible story, 03:44 we'll learn about another mysterious prophetic message. 03:48 I can't wait to find out more about that. 03:51 So remember, the Bible explains itself. 03:54 Jeremiah, what clue do we have in our jewel box 03:56 to help us understand symbolic prophecies? 04:02 Dig deep. 04:04 So we don't need to go outside the Bible to understand 04:07 what the Bible has to say. 04:09 We have to dig deep 04:11 into different parts of scripture 04:12 to find out the meaning of some symbols. 04:15 It's gonna be a wonderful journey of discovery. 04:18 It's the best treasure hunt you'll ever go on. 04:20 We don't even have to be good at maths 04:23 to understand time prophecies. 04:25 One day equals one year. 04:27 That's pretty simple, isn't it? 04:28 Uncle Daniel, Braedan's here. 04:30 You're right. Braedan, welcome. 04:33 Thanks, Uncle Daniel. 04:34 I'm so glad that it's a Sabbath once again. 04:37 We've actually got a brand new song 04:39 that's called "This is the day the Lord has made." 04:41 It's a Sabbath song. Let's sing it together. 04:48 This is the day the Lord has made 04:52 He calls this day His own 04:56 Let us be glad, and welcome Him 05:01 This Sabbath to our home 05:06 Let us be glad and welcome Him 05:11 This Sabbath to our home 05:16 Braedan, can we sing "Books of the Bible?" 05:18 Ooh, wow! 05:19 That's a challenging one, but we'll give it a go. 05:26 Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua 05:33 Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel 05:36 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles 05:42 Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs 05:47 Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon 05:51 Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel 05:57 Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos 06:00 Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk 06:06 Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi 06:11 Matthew, Mark, Luke and John Acts 06:16 Romans, 1st and 2nd Corinthians 06:18 Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians 06:22 1st and 2nd Thessalonians 06:26 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James 06:31 1st and 2nd Peter 1st and 2nd, 3rd John 06:35 Jude and Revelation 06:36 That's the Old and New Testament 06:38 Amen! 06:41 Can we sing "What so ever?" 06:43 We can sing that song. It's a really good one. 06:51 What so ever things are lovely 06:55 What so ever things are pure 06:59 What so ever things are just and of good report 07:03 These are the things to think about 07:07 What so ever things are honest 07:11 What so ever things are true 07:15 What so ever things have virtue and are excellent 07:18 These are the things to think about 07:23 These are the things to think about 07:26 These are the things to think about 07:33 Thanks for singing with us, Braedan. 07:35 Now, Dr. John has another story for us. 07:38 Hello, boys and girls, I'm Dr. John. 07:40 And I'm so happy to see you, 07:42 and I'm so happy to see the boys and girls 07:45 watching on their televisions right across the world. 07:49 David Douglas was born in Scotland 07:53 and as he grew up he had one passion. 07:57 He loved trees. 08:01 And wherever he went, he would plant a little tree, 08:04 and when he left school, they said, 08:06 "I think you're going to have to work with trees." 08:09 So he got a job in a garden 08:11 and he was so good at growing trees. 08:15 They said, "We want you to go all the way across to America 08:19 and explore and bring home some new trees." 08:22 Oh, boy! 08:24 That was a job he really wanted and off he went. 08:29 And he was travelling in the woods 08:32 and he didn't know that Indians were stalking him. 08:37 They've never seen a white man before. 08:40 And all of a sudden they jumped out at him. 08:43 He was not only good at trees, he was a very good runner, 08:48 and he started to run as fast as he could 08:52 and they couldn't keep up with him. 08:53 But he was carrying a box on his bag called a vasculum 08:58 for carrying little seedlings. 09:00 And that was bumping on his back 09:02 and there was one Indian who was catching up with him 09:05 and when he was just about to grab him, 09:08 he suddenly stopped, bent down, 09:10 and the Indian went ahead of a hill, splat. 09:15 And then the rest of the Indians caught him. 09:18 And they sat him down 09:20 and they looked at him 09:23 and they said, "We've never seen a white man before. 09:26 We'll give you some food." 09:29 So they gave him some fruits, some fish, 09:31 and it wasn't very good. 09:33 And he was feeling upset in the tummy. 09:36 And in his bag, he asked for some water. 09:41 He did something that absolutely amazed them. 09:46 He got his medicine. 09:48 And when I pour this in, 09:50 it'll look as though it's boiling 09:52 'cause Indians all thought that it was boiling. 09:55 And he put it in 09:58 and he stirred with his, 10:00 "How could he put his finger in boiling water?" 10:04 And then he drank it. 10:08 And they said, "He is magic." 10:11 We'll show you 10:12 all the strange trees in America. 10:16 And, you know, he found a tree 10:19 that was a beautiful big tree. 10:21 He just loved the tree like that. 10:24 But he then found a tree 10:26 that is now named after him, it is called the Douglas fir, 10:31 and it is the most popular Christmas tree 10:35 in the whole world. 10:37 He decided that he would take one home. 10:40 And he got a little seedling just like that, 10:44 and he wrapped it up, he put it in his vasculum, 10:48 and he took it all the way back to Scotland. 10:52 And when they looked at it, 10:55 and they saw in the roots there was gold. 11:00 He's got it from an area where there was gold. 11:03 And they said, "Look at the gold." 11:05 And you know what he said? 11:07 "I'm not interested in looking at the gold. 11:10 I'm only interested in looking at the tree 11:13 because the tree 11:14 is more precious than the gold." 11:19 And, you know, the Bible has a lot to say about trees 11:22 and they are very, very important. 11:25 Because right in the very first book of the Bible, 11:30 it talks about the tree of life. 11:32 And the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 11:37 And through the Bible, it talks about Abraham 11:41 resting under a great big oak tree. 11:45 And Jesus talks about different types of trees 11:49 and in the very end of the Bible, 11:50 that talks about the tree of life. 11:54 And trees are things that people used to worship 11:57 but God said, "It is a symbol of My strength and My love, 12:03 and it's a symbol of eternal life." 12:05 Because when we get to heaven, 12:08 we will eat from the tree of life. 12:12 And God has given that tree special powers. 12:16 Remember David Douglas, the man who loved trees 12:21 and risked his life to give us beautiful trees. 12:24 Thank you, boys and girls. 12:26 Hello, again. Ready for our Bible study? 12:29 Open your Bible to Daniel Chapter 5, 12:31 in readiness for today's story. 12:33 Who would like to offer a prayer 12:35 to ask the Holy Spirit to be with us 12:37 as we study our Bibles today? 12:38 I will. Thank you, Sai. 12:41 Dear God, thank You for these Bible stories. 12:45 Please send Your Holy Spirit to help us understand 12:49 what we read. 12:50 In Jesus' name, amen. 12:52 Amen. 12:53 Chemiah, what did we learn about last week? 12:56 That God humbled the king for seven years. 12:59 Yes, He did. 13:00 And did King Nebuchadnezzar 13:02 finally submit to God's control? 13:04 Yes. Yes. 13:06 Nebuchadnezzar ruled till he was old, 13:08 his son took over the throne 13:10 and then Nebuchadnezzar's grandson, King Belshazzar 13:13 became co-ruler of the kingdom. 13:16 Belshazzar knew about his grandfather's experience 13:20 of being humbled by God for seven years, 13:22 but he was young, 13:24 self-centered, and rebellious. 13:26 He liked big parties and getting drunk. 13:29 Our story today starts in Daniel 5:1. 13:34 Could you please read that, Bethany? 13:37 Oh, "Belshazzar, 13:39 the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords 13:43 and drank wine in the presence of the thousand." 13:46 That's not a very upright king, is it? 13:48 But it didn't stop there. 13:51 In drunk and defiance of God, King Belshazzar commanded 13:54 that the gold and silver vessels taken 13:56 from the temple in Jerusalem by King Nebuchadnezzar 13:59 to be brought out. 14:01 They put intoxicating wine into the holy temple vessels. 14:05 Belshazzar, his lords, his wives, 14:07 and his concubines all drank from them 14:09 and mocked God by praising the god of gold and silver, 14:13 bronze, iron, wood, and stone. 14:16 Now, that was an act which forced God to respond. 14:20 Let's see what our torchlight, Mrs. White's book 14:23 Prophets and Kings, page 530 shines on this. 14:28 Would you please read that, Caleb? 14:29 Sure. 14:33 "In that last night of mad folly, 14:35 Belshazzar and his lords had filled up 14:37 the measure of their guilt 14:39 and the guilt of the Chaldean kingdom. 14:42 No longer could God's restraining hand ward 14:45 off the impending evil. 14:48 Through manifold providences, 14:50 God had sought to teach them reverence for His law." 14:54 Then a really scary thing happened. 14:57 Bryce, could you please read about that in verse 5? 15:03 "In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand appeared 15:06 and wrote opposite the lampstand 15:08 on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace, 15:11 and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote." 15:14 God sent King Belshazzar, a text message 15:17 written on the wall with a bloodless hand. 15:20 What a party stopper. 15:22 You can see from our picture here 15:23 that it certainly would have given everyone a fright. 15:26 Can you read that in verse 6, Chemiah? 15:32 "Then the king's countenance changed, 15:34 and his thoughts troubled him, 15:36 so that the joints of his hips were loosened, 15:39 and his knees knocked against each other." 15:43 Can you imagine that? 15:45 The king's knees knocking together. 15:47 He was really scared. 15:49 He screamed for those useless astrologers, 15:52 Chaldeans and soothsayers 15:53 and offered them a purple robe, a gold chain, 15:56 and even a third place in the kingdom 15:59 if they could interpret the writing on the wall. 16:01 But do you think they could? 16:03 No! No, they couldn't. 16:06 Panic broke out. 16:07 They were drunk and screams of terror, 16:09 as the letters glowed larger and brighter 16:12 so much so that the queen mother heard about it 16:14 and came into the banquet hall to try to settle the situation. 16:18 She told Belshazzar to call Daniel in. 16:21 So Daniel was brought in before the king. 16:24 The king had heard about 16:26 Daniel's ability to interpret dreams 16:28 in relation to his grandfather King Nebuchadnezzar. 16:32 Jireh, will you please read 16:34 what the king said to Daniel in verse 16? 16:39 "And I have heard of you, that you can give 16:43 interpretations and explain enigmas. 16:47 Now if you can read the writing 16:49 and make known to me its interpretation, 16:52 you shall be clothed with purple 16:54 and have a chain of gold around your neck, 16:56 and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." 17:00 Daniel had a reputation for solving mysteries, 17:03 riddles, and puzzles. 17:04 That's what explaining enigmas means. 17:07 Daniel was an elderly man at this point. 17:10 He had been in Babylon for nearly 70 years, 17:13 and he remained faithful to God amidst all the attractions 17:17 and luxurious lifestyles of the palace court. 17:21 According to historians, 17:22 Belshazzar was co-ruler of Babylon with his father. 17:26 So do you think Daniel was excited about 17:29 being made the third ruler in the kingdom? 17:32 No! 17:34 Let's find out. 17:35 Sai, can you please read about that in verse 17? 17:40 "Then Daniel answered and said before the king, 17:44 'Let your gifts be for yourself, 17:46 and give your rewards to another, 17:49 yet I will read the writing to the king, 17:52 and make known to him the interpretation.'" 17:56 Daniel told the king that he could keep his gifts 17:59 and went to give him a family history lesson. 18:02 Aunty Leah, could you please read that in verses 18-20? 18:05 Yes. 18:07 "O king, the Most High God 18:09 gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, 18:11 and majesty, glory, and honor. 18:14 And because of the majesty that He gave him, 18:16 all peoples, nations, and languages trembled 18:19 and feared before him. 18:20 Whomever he wished, he executed, 18:23 whomever he wished, he kept alive, 18:25 whomever he wished, he set up, 18:27 and whomever he wished, he put down. 18:30 But when his heart was lifted up, 18:31 and his spirit was hardened in pride, 18:34 he was deposed from his kingly throne, 18:36 and they took his glory from him." 18:39 And, Bethany, could you please read verse 21? 18:43 "Then he was driven from the sons of men, 18:46 his heart was made like the beasts, 18:47 and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. 18:50 They fed him grass like oxen, 18:52 and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, 18:54 till he knew that the Most High God 18:56 rules in the kingdom of men, 18:58 and appoints over it whomever He chooses." 19:00 Then Daniel gave Belshazzar addressing down in verse 22. 19:05 He accused Belshazzar of refusing 19:07 to humble his heart, 19:08 even though he knew of all the supernatural things 19:11 that had happened to his grandfather, 19:12 King Nebuchadnezzar. 19:14 Caleb, could you please read verse 23 19:17 where Daniel continues to rebuke Belshazzar? 19:20 Sure. 19:21 "And you have lifted yourself up 19:24 against the Lord of heaven. 19:26 They have brought the vessels of His house before you, 19:29 and you and your lords, and your wives, 19:31 and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. 19:34 And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, 19:38 bronze and iron, wood and stone, 19:40 which do not see or hear or know. 19:43 And the God who holds your breath in His hands 19:46 and owns all your ways, you have not glorified." 19:49 Daniel told Belshazzar 19:51 that the fingers of the hand was sent from God 19:54 as a direct result of his God defying behavior. 19:57 Verse 25 tells us that this mysterious bloodless hand 20:01 write the words "MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN." 20:05 Then Daniel gave the interpretation. 20:07 Daniel uses the word "PERES" in his explanation. 20:11 This is the singular form of the word "UPHARSIN." 20:15 Bryce, could you please read the next two verses, 20:18 verses 26-28? 20:23 "This is the interpretation of each word. 20:25 MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, 20:27 and finished it. 20:29 TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, 20:31 and found wanting. 20:32 PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, 20:35 and given to the Medes and Persians." 20:37 So as promised, 20:38 Belshazzar commanded that Daniel be clothed with purple, 20:42 with a gold chain around his neck. 20:44 And he proclaimed Daniel, the third ruler in the kingdom. 20:47 The only problem was 20:49 that the kingdom didn't even last that night. 20:52 As Daniel was explaining 20:54 the mysterious writing on the wall, 20:56 the Medes and Persians were already at work 20:58 diverting River Euphrates 21:00 which ran through Babylon wine opening in the wall. 21:04 Cyrus marched his soldiers up the drained riverbed 21:07 and through the huge metal river gates 21:09 that had been accidentally left open. 21:11 Amazingly Cyrus's ability to enter Babylon 21:14 because the gates were left open that night 21:17 was prophesied around 150 years earlier by the Prophet Isaiah. 21:22 So we know that God was in control 21:25 as Cyrus conquered Babylon. 21:27 You can read about that in Isaiah 45:1-5. 21:32 Chemiah, can you please tell us 21:33 what happened next in verses 30-31? 21:40 "That very night Belshazzar, 21:41 king of the Chaldeans, was slain. 21:44 And..." 21:47 Darius. 21:48 "Darius the Mede received the kingdom, 21:51 being about 62 years old." 21:54 Let's turn to Proverbs 16:18. 21:59 And read our memory verse together. 22:01 This is a warning about pride. 22:03 It also talks about a haughty spirit 22:06 which means being conceited, stuck up, or snobbish. 22:10 Are we ready to do that? 22:12 All right, let's read it together. 22:14 "Pride goes before destruction, 22:17 and a haughty spirit before a fall." 22:21 Sadly, King Belshazzar demonstrated 22:23 how true that proverb really is. 22:26 His pride led to his own destruction 22:28 that very night and his haughty, 22:30 conceited spirit led to the fall 22:33 of the Babylonian Empire. 22:35 So let's remember to stay humble 22:38 and give God the glory 22:39 for all our achievements and prosperity. 22:43 Thank you for joining us in our Bible study. 22:45 The daily devotional goes into more depth 22:48 on our study today. 22:49 Here's how you can obtain your copy. 22:55 What do you want? You bored? 22:58 Yes. 22:59 Look what I got. 23:03 Whoa! 23:04 Look at that. Cool. 23:06 Where did you get these? 23:09 adaywiththeking.com. 23:12 Uncle Daniel, what are we going to learn about next week? 23:15 Well, next week, we're going to learn about 23:18 what happened to Daniel 23:19 after the night Babylon was captured. 23:22 We have an amazing animal story 23:25 which will strengthen our trust in God 23:26 in all circumstances. 23:29 I like animal stories. 23:31 It's time to say our memory verse. 23:33 All together. 23:35 "Pride goes before destruction, 23:38 and a haughty spirit before a fall." 23:42 Proverbs 16:18. 23:45 Some Bible verses are warnings. 23:47 They are given to protect us 23:49 and to save us from making fools of ourselves. 23:52 Janina, what did you learn about the King this week? 23:55 I need to stay humble like Jesus. 23:58 Yes. 23:59 Jesus is our example in everything, 24:02 and we don't need to brag and boast. 24:04 And Jesus also gives us 24:06 the power to follow His example, 24:08 because we can't do anything good without Him. 24:11 Aunty Leah, I think it's time to close our worship time. 24:14 Already? 24:15 Can we sing the blessing song to the children at home? 24:18 Yes, we can. Ready, everyone? 24:25 May God bless you and give you 24:30 And fill your heart with love 24:35 May God guide and protect you 24:40 And watch you from above 24:46 And Sabbath after Sabbath 24:51 We greet the day of rest 24:56 The day that King of glory 25:01 Has sanctified and blessed 25:06 Goodbye, my friend, till we meet again 25:11 For another Day with the King 25:17 Goodbye! Happy Sabbath! 25:28 I know Jesus loves me because He first loved me. 25:38 I know Jesus loves me 25:39 because He's coming to take me home with Him. 25:47 I know Jesus loves me because He died for me. |
