00:02 Hello there, happy Sabbath.
00:03 Come on in.
00:05 We're about to meet with the King.
00:40 Hello, I'm Uncle Daniel.
00:42 And we have a special worship time plan today.
00:45 It's our sincere desire that these worship times
00:47 will draw you very close
00:49 to our Savior and best friend Jesus.
00:52 So we welcome you along with Auntie Leah
00:55 and the children here with us.
00:57 Hello, Uncle Daniel.
00:58 This is just my favorite time of the week
01:00 because I get to put
01:02 all the busyness away for the week
01:03 and spend special time with Jesus and rest.
01:06 Can I say hello to some children from Tasmania
01:08 who watch A Day with the King?
01:10 Yes, you sure can.
01:11 Who are they?
01:13 Michaela, Eli, and Hannah from the Sheffield area.
01:16 Hello.
01:19 We'd love to hear from you
01:20 and find out a little about you.
01:23 Do you have any good new stories
01:24 you'd like to share with us?
01:26 Well, why don't you email us at the address on the screen?
01:30 Alesha, would you please say a prayer for us?
01:34 Sure.
01:36 Dear, Father in heaven,
01:38 thank You for caring for us during the past week.
01:42 Please forgive us where we have let you down.
01:47 Please give us a fresh start this Sabbath, in Jesus name.
01:52 Amen. Amen.
01:54 Thank you, Alesha. That's all right.
01:56 Auntie Leah, do you have a special gem for us today?
01:59 I sure have.
02:00 But first,
02:02 let's briefly review what we've discovered
02:04 on our treasure hunt for Bible gems.
02:06 These help us understand prophecy.
02:08 The Bible explains itself.
02:10 We don't need to go outside the Bible
02:12 to interpret prophecy.
02:14 Many prophecies have already been fulfilled.
02:17 This should encourage us
02:18 and give us confidence in the Bible
02:20 as the divine word of God.
02:22 All the messages in the Bible, including prophetic messages,
02:26 are given to point us to Jesus
02:28 and all that He's done for us and continues to do for us.
02:31 The most important point
02:33 to remember about Bible prophecy
02:35 is that it points to the work of Jesus
02:37 as our Savior, our helper, and our best friend.
02:41 And the most amazing of all, he has sent a special message
02:44 just to you in these last days of this earth's history.
02:48 Jesus offers you an amazing opportunity
02:51 to serve Him.
02:52 Let's find out our Bible gem.
02:54 Bailey, would you please save
02:56 a very special gem we have today?
02:58 Sure.
03:00 Wow, look at that.
03:02 How amazing!
03:03 I hope the loveliness of this Bible gem
03:06 reminds you of Jesus.
03:07 Bailey, what's the Bible reference?
03:16 Acts 2:17 and 18.
03:19 Bethany, would you please read that for us?
03:22 "'And it shall come to pass in the last days,' says God,
03:25 'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh.
03:28 Your sons and daughters shall prophesy,
03:30 your young men shall see visions,
03:32 your old men shall dream dreams.
03:36 And on My menservants and on My maidservants,
03:39 I will pour out My Spirit in those days
03:41 and they shall prophesy.'"
03:43 Did you hear that?
03:44 Who did God say
03:45 He would give the prophetic gift to
03:47 in these last days, our day?
03:50 Sons and daughters, menservants and maidservants.
03:55 Are you a son or daughter?
03:56 Yes.
03:58 The term maidservants and menservants
04:00 refer to young women and young men,
04:03 teenagers like Daniel and Ellen White
04:06 who chose to follow Jesus with all their heart.
04:09 Think about this.
04:10 What if God wanted you to share a message with others?
04:13 Would you be obedient and ready to do that?
04:16 Can you say with Isaiah,
04:18 "Here I am. Send me."
04:20 During these Sabbath hours,
04:22 think about what you might need to do
04:24 to get ready for such a role if God called on you.
04:27 So remember, stay close to God.
04:30 You never know if He will choose you
04:32 to be His messenger with a special dream
04:34 or vision to bless and help someone.
04:37 Thank you, Auntie Leah.
04:38 What an amazing prophecy
04:40 and what a privilege to be a part
04:42 of sharing the gospel.
04:43 Do you want to help Jesus share the good news
04:46 about His soon return?
04:48 Yes. Yes.
04:49 Uncle Daniel, Braedan is here to sing with us.
04:52 Yes, he is.
04:53 Welcome, Braedan.
04:55 Thanks, Uncle Daniel.
04:56 Hi, everyone.
04:57 Now I hear that you're going to be
04:59 looking at Nehemiah today in your Bible study.
05:01 This song is about what Nehemiah said
05:03 to the people who were trying to distract him
05:05 from building the wall.
05:06 And it's called "I'm working for the Lord."
05:13 Oh no, I can't come down
05:16 No, no, I can't come down
05:20 Was Nehemiah's cry while rebuilding Zion's wall
05:24 Oh no, I can't come down
05:28 Oh no, I can't come down
05:31 No, no, I can't come down
05:35 I'm working for the Lord We are building up His kingdom
05:39 Oh no, I can't come down
05:44 Braedan, can we please sing "Remember the Sabbath"?
05:46 That's a great choice. Let's sing it together.
05:53 Looking forward, looking back
05:55 We're going to keep on track
05:57 Looking forward, looking back
05:59 We're going to keep on track
06:01 Looking forward to salvation Looking back on God's creation
06:06 We'll remember we're to keep God's Sabbath holy
06:12 Looking forward, looking back We're going to keep on track
06:16 Looking forward, looking back
06:18 We're going to keep on track
06:21 Looking forward to salvation Looking back on God's creation
06:26 We will worship our Redeemer every Sabbath
06:33 Braedan, can we sing "Give your heart to Jesus"?
06:35 That's a great song to finish off with.
06:37 Let's sing it together.
06:43 Give your heart to Jesus
06:46 He is calling you
06:51 Give your heart to Jesus
06:54 He is calling you
06:59 Give your heart to Jesus
07:02 He is calling you
07:07 Give Him your heart today
07:15 Give your heart to Jesus
07:18 He is calling you
07:23 Give your heart to Jesus
07:26 He is calling you
07:31 Give your heart to Jesus
07:34 He is calling you
07:39 Give Him your heart today
07:46 Thanks, Braedan.
07:47 I love singing songs about Jesus.
07:49 It's time to join Dr. John for another amazing true story.
07:54 Hello, boys and girls. I'm Dr. John.
07:56 And it is so good to have you again.
08:00 And hello to all the boys and girls
08:02 watching right around the world.
08:05 You know, way across in America
08:07 in the Appalachian Mountains,
08:09 there was a group of people who used to meet for worship
08:14 every Sabbath.
08:16 And they were so poor, they didn't have a church.
08:20 And every week, they would say,
08:22 "I wish we had a church."
08:24 They had to hire a hall.
08:27 And they had to put the chairs out,
08:28 and then they had to pack them up
08:30 every Sabbath the same,
08:32 who got no money.
08:35 And then one day,
08:37 a little old lady came to the pastor.
08:40 And I'm gonna put on the pastor's hat.
08:43 And she said, "Pastor,
08:45 I'm not very rich.
08:47 But I've got a little block of ground
08:50 and there is just enough room to put a church there."
08:55 And the pastor said, "You are so kind."
08:59 And, you know, they saved up their money,
09:02 and they built the church
09:04 on the little block of ground in one corner
09:08 because the rest of the block
09:12 had a great big mountain of dirt.
09:17 And they said that we can just get the church in there.
09:21 And they were looking forward so much 'cause next Sabbath
09:25 was going to be their very first time
09:29 they worshiped in their new church,
09:31 and they were really excited.
09:37 The pastor was standing outside the church.
09:40 And he was just painting
09:43 and making sure everything looks good.
09:46 And the car stopped and out came
09:51 the building inspector.
09:54 Now the building inspector did not like Christians.
10:00 And he said, "I've come to inspect the church."
10:04 And so he went inside and he looked at the doors.
10:08 He made sure that they opened and shut.
10:11 And he said, "Maybe I can find something wrong
10:13 with the windows."
10:14 So he rattled the windows.
10:17 "Maybe there's not a fire escape exit sign."
10:20 So he looked around,
10:22 everything was right.
10:25 He was looking for trouble.
10:27 And so he said,
10:32 "Where are you going to park the cars?"
10:39 And the pastor said,
10:41 "We'll park them out in the street."
10:45 "No, you won't.
10:46 You must have a car park.
10:48 You will not open your church.
10:51 You will not worship there until you have a car park."
10:56 "We haven't got a car park."
10:58 "Too bad.
10:59 Goodbye."
11:01 "Oh, please."
11:02 "No!" And he went away.
11:04 And the pastor was so unhappy.
11:06 And he said, "We'll have a prayer meeting."
11:09 And all church got together
11:10 and they prayed for three hours.
11:13 And then they said,
11:15 "We will open our church on Sabbath,
11:18 God will do a miracle."
11:20 And the pastor was standing outside
11:22 and a truck stopped.
11:23 And out came a man with a dirty hat,
11:26 a rough face and overalls.
11:28 And he said, "Are you the pastor?"
11:32 "Yes, I am."
11:35 "I need some dirt.
11:36 You've got a big pile of dirt.
11:39 Can we have it?"
11:40 "Oh, yes, you can."
11:41 "I'll pay you for it."
11:43 "Will you really?"
11:44 "I'll pay you lots of money.
11:46 And I'll turn it into a car park."
11:48 "Oh, really?"
11:50 And so he called his men,
11:52 and they got the bulldozers and the trucks,
11:54 and they shifted all the dirt.
11:56 And the pastor was watching.
11:59 And the foreman was there.
12:01 And when it was all finished,
12:04 there was a car park
12:06 and there was a proper road and painting and lights.
12:11 And the pastor said, "Thank you so much.
12:14 God has answered prayers."
12:17 And the builder said, "You're welcome."
12:20 And on Sabbath, the pastor said,
12:23 "Welcome to our new church.
12:26 God has blessed us.
12:28 We have faith to move a mountain."
12:32 And that is what God loves.
12:34 He loves people who have faith to move mountains.
12:39 Thank you, boys and girls.
12:41 Welcome to our Bible study.
12:43 Got your Bible ready?
12:44 Chemiah, would you please pray and invite God's Holy Spirit
12:48 to be with us as we study our Bibles?
12:50 Sure.
12:53 Dear Jesus, thank you for our Bibles.
12:55 Please send your Holy Spirit to guide us.
12:58 In Jesus' name, Amen.
12:59 Amen.
13:01 We had a lot of twists and turns
13:04 in our intriguing Bible story last week, didn't we?
13:07 Who was the queen in last week's story?
13:10 Esther. Yes.
13:12 And what did Queen Esther do that was so important?
13:15 Esther saved the Jewish people.
13:17 Yes.
13:18 Those who decided not to return to the homeland
13:21 under the decree of King Cyrus and King Darius
13:25 faced their own mountains of difficulties
13:27 just like Zerubbabel did
13:29 when rebuilding the temple of Jerusalem.
13:32 About 70 years
13:33 after the first exiles returned to Jerusalem
13:36 and after Esther's time as Queen,
13:39 Artaxerxes longer madness came to the throne.
13:42 During his long rule,
13:44 King Artaxerxes showed considerable favor
13:47 to God's people.
13:48 He had two Jewish friends whom he trusted completely.
13:52 These were Ezra the scribe,
13:54 and Nehemiah, the king's cupbearer.
13:57 Through his association with these God-fearing men,
14:00 he learned about the God of heaven,
14:02 and he recognized that God had given their men
14:04 a special work to do.
14:07 Now Ezra, a very skilled scribe,
14:10 lived among the Jews in Babylon.
14:12 Do you know what a scribe does?
14:14 He writes things.
14:15 Yes, Ezra collected all the scriptures
14:18 he couldn't had copies made
14:20 so that the people everywhere could read them.
14:22 There were no printing machines in those days.
14:25 They copied the scriptures carefully by hand.
14:29 Ezra worked tirelessly to revive people's interest
14:32 in the scriptures.
14:33 He also talked freely with the king
14:35 about the power of God
14:37 and the divine purpose in restoring the Jews
14:39 to Jerusalem.
14:41 In a letter to Ezra in 457 BC,
14:44 King Artaxerxes issued the third and final decree
14:48 for the restoration of Jerusalem.
14:51 Open your Bibles to Ezra 7:13.
14:55 And would you please read that for us, Bethany?
14:59 "I issue a decree
15:01 that all those of the people of Israel
15:03 and the priests and Levites in my realm,
15:05 who volunteer to go up to Jerusalem,
15:07 may go with you."
15:08 God put it in the king's heart to be very generous.
15:12 He gave Ezra gold and silver,
15:14 and the people in priests in Babylon gave money
15:17 to help with the many expenses in rebuilding Jerusalem.
15:21 Most importantly though,
15:22 this decree restored to the Jewish people
15:25 the legal right to self-govern.
15:28 Let's read verse 25.
15:29 Thanks, Caleb.
15:34 "And you, Ezra,
15:35 according to your God-given wisdom,
15:37 set magistrates and judges who may judge all the people
15:42 who are in the region beyond the River,
15:45 all such as know the law of your God
15:48 and teach those who do not know them."
15:51 The King also made it unlawful
15:53 to require taxes from the Jewish priesthood
15:56 who served in the temple.
15:58 The king also instructed Ezra
16:00 to teach God's laws to the people.
16:02 Before heading out on the journey to Jerusalem
16:05 accompanied by 2,000 Jewish exiles,
16:08 Ezra prayed for God's protection.
16:11 There were robbers along the way
16:13 who could steal the silver and gold they carried.
16:16 The king would have sent soldiers with them
16:18 to protect them,
16:19 but Ezra had told the king that
16:21 God would take care of those who served Him.
16:23 Ezra also took several copies of every book
16:26 that the previous prophets had written.
16:29 That was much of what we call the Old Testament.
16:32 His goal was to place God's word
16:34 in the hands of the people of Israel.
16:37 When he arrived,
16:38 he began a careful cleanup of the sin
16:40 that had invaded the lives of the Jews.
16:42 One major event was separating the Jews
16:45 from the foreign women they had married.
16:47 These foreigners worshipped idols,
16:50 which was the heinous sin that led the Israelites
16:52 into captivity in the first place.
16:55 Ezra taught the people God's Word for some time.
16:58 God blessed Ezra's labors with the spiritual revival
17:01 among the Jews in Jerusalem and surrounding Judaea.
17:05 Meanwhile,
17:06 back in King Artaxerxes' palace,
17:08 Nehemiah, another Jew who loved God,
17:11 was working as the king's cupbearer.
17:14 Sai, do you know what a cupbearer does?
17:17 He tastes and drinks the king's food
17:21 to test if it has poison in it.
17:23 Yes, that's right.
17:24 A very dangerous job, don't you think?
17:27 Well, every mealtime, you risk dying.
17:30 But Nehemiah did his job cheerfully and faithfully.
17:34 One day, Nehemiah heard
17:35 that the rebuilding work at Jerusalem
17:37 had almost ground to a halt.
17:40 He prayed earnestly
17:41 and asked God to open up the way
17:43 if he was meant to go and help rebuild Jerusalem.
17:47 Nehemiah was so sad
17:48 and by the news that even the king noticed.
17:51 The king's servants were to always look happy
17:54 in the king's presence
17:56 or he might order them to be put to death.
17:59 Let's find out what happened.
18:01 Turn to the book of Nehemiah,
18:03 the next book in the Bible after Ezra,
18:06 and we'll start with Bryce
18:08 and will read Nehemiah 2:2 to 5.
18:12 Bryce, could you please read verse 2?"
18:16 "Therefore the king said to me,
18:18 'Why is your face sad, since you are not sick?
18:22 This is nothing but sorrow of heart.'
18:24 So I became dreadfully afraid."
18:26 And, Chemiah, verse 3.
18:30 "And said to the king, 'May the king live forever!
18:33 Why should my face not be sad, when the city,
18:36 the place of my fathers' tombs, lies waste,
18:39 and its gates are burned with fire?'"
18:43 And, Jireh, verse 4.
18:48 "Then the king said to me, 'What do you request?'
18:51 So I prayed to the God of heaven."
18:54 And, Sai, verse 5.
18:56 "And I said to the king, 'If it pleases the king,
19:00 and if your servant has found favor in your sight,
19:03 I ask that you send me to Judah,
19:06 the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it.'"
19:10 King Artaxerxes kindly agreed.
19:12 So about 13 years after Ezra went to Jerusalem,
19:16 Nehemiah journeyed there.
19:18 The king also provided Nehemiah with official letters
19:21 and soldiers to protect him as he traveled.
19:24 He even gave Nehemiah a letter for Asaph,
19:27 the keeper of the king's forest.
19:29 Asaph was ordered to provide
19:30 as much timber as Nehemiah asked for
19:33 to build the city walls and gates
19:35 and for his own house.
19:37 When Nehemiah arrived at Jerusalem,
19:39 he secretly rode around the city by night
19:42 to assess the huge task of rebuilding the wall.
19:45 And daunted by what he saw,
19:47 he spoke with the priests, nobles, and officials.
19:51 Auntie Leah, could you please read
19:53 Nehemiah's proposal in verses 17 and 18?
19:56 Sure.
19:58 "Then I said to them,
19:59 'You see the distress that we are in,
20:02 how Jerusalem lies waste
20:03 and its gates are burned with fire.
20:05 Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem,
20:08 that we may no longer be a reproach.'
20:11 And I told them of the hand of my God
20:14 which had been good upon me,
20:16 and also of the king's words that he had spoken to me.
20:19 So they said, 'Let us rise up and build.'
20:22 Then they set their hands to this good work."
20:25 So every family was allocated a section of the wall,
20:28 and they all worked together.
20:30 As before the opposition was back,
20:33 mocking them and trying to stop the work.
20:36 One mocked, "Even a fox could knock the wall down."
20:39 But when their taunts didn't work,
20:41 Sanballat, a Samarian leader
20:43 tried to lay a trap to kill Nehemiah.
20:46 Five times he sent messengers to entice Nehemiah
20:49 to come for talks in the plain of Ono.
20:52 And five times, Nehemiah refused.
20:55 Bethany, could you please read Nehemiah's reply
20:58 in chapter 6:3.
21:01 "So I sent messengers to them, saying,
21:03 'I am doing a great work so that I cannot come down.
21:06 Why should the work cease
21:08 while I leave it and go down to you?'"
21:10 Let's have a look at our torchlight.
21:12 Mrs. White's writings in Prophets and Kings,
21:15 page 645, to see what it shines on this.
21:19 Thanks, Caleb.
21:21 "Amidst great discouragement, Nehemiah made God his trust,
21:26 his sure defense.
21:27 However, craftily the plots of Satan
21:30 and his agents may be laid,
21:32 God can detect them and bring to naught
21:35 all their counsels.
21:37 And response of faith today
21:38 will be the response made by Nehemiah,
21:41 'Our God shall fight for us,'
21:43 for God is in the work,
21:45 and no man can prevent its ultimate success."
21:48 Just like Nehemiah,
21:50 the Apostle Paul was very positive
21:52 even in distressing circumstances.
21:55 Let's turn to Romans 8:31
21:58 and read the second part together for our memory verse.
22:04 Okay, let's read.
22:06 "If God is for us, who can be against us?"
22:10 Amen.
22:11 God prospered their efforts.
22:13 After lying in ruins for nearly 90 years,
22:17 6:15 tells us
22:19 they finished rebuilding the walls
22:21 in just 52 days under Nehemiah's leadership.
22:26 That's less than two months.
22:28 They also made doors for all the city gates
22:31 with timber provided from the king's forest,
22:33 and soon the city was secure.
22:36 This was cause for celebration.
22:38 Ezra read from the scrolls to the assembled crowd,
22:41 the people wept when they heard how far they had drifted away
22:44 from following God.
22:46 But the ever positive Nehemiah encouraged them to rejoice
22:50 as they renewed their vows to follow God's Word.
22:53 So they praised God for all He had done
22:55 in restoring their homeland to them.
22:58 We've been on quite a long track,
22:59 haven't we?
23:01 In everything we see,
23:02 how lovingly God watches over us
23:04 and is always ready to help us.
23:06 Now here's Matthew and Calie to remind us
23:09 how to obtain the devotional
23:11 that goes with today's Bible study.
23:17 What do you want?
23:18 Are you bored?
23:20 Yes.
23:21 Look what I got.
23:24 Whoa!
23:26 Look at that!
23:28 Where did you get this?
23:31 ADayWithTheKing.com.
23:34 Thank you, Matthew and Calie.
23:36 Let's go over our memory.
23:39 You can say it too.
23:41 "If God is for us, who can be against us?"
23:45 Romans 8:31.
23:48 Now there's a promise to give us confidence
23:50 that Jesus will deliver us out of all our troubles.
23:53 You know Jesus has already proved to us
23:56 that He's stronger than Satan?
23:58 Bailey, what did you learn about the King today?
24:01 If I keep trusting in Jesus,
24:03 I can get the victory over my sins.
24:05 Wow, that's so true.
24:06 Victory is promised to us.
24:08 All we have to do is trust Jesus
24:11 and obey His Word
24:12 through the strength that He freely gives us.
24:14 Just ask.
24:15 It's so simple.
24:17 Uncle Daniel, it's time for our blessing song.
24:19 Yes, it is.
24:21 May you be a blessing to someone this Sabbath
24:24 as Jesus has blessed you.
24:26 Ready, everyone?
24:32 May God bless you and keep you
24:37 And fill your heart with love
24:42 May God guide and protect you
24:48 And watch you from above
24:53 And Sabbath after Sabbath
24:58 We greet the day of rest
25:03 The day the King of glory
25:08 has sanctified and blessed
25:13 Goodbye, my friend, till we meet again
25:19 For another day with the King
25:23 Goodbye.
25:25 Happy Sabbath.
25:35 I know Jesus loves me because He's blessed me
25:38 with amazing family and friends.
25:44 I know Jesus loves me
25:46 because He keeps me safe from day to day.
25:54 I know Jesus loves me because He gave me animals.
