00:21 Hello, friends, and welcome to the 3ABN Worship Center
00:24 here in the beautiful winter Sabbath morning 00:27 and we know that the Lord is going to bless us. 00:29 Can we all say amen to that today? 00:31 Amen. 00:32 We have been blessed this week by the messages 00:34 that Dr. Dedrick Blue have preached. 00:38 He didn't teach, he didn't talk, 00:40 he preached the Word 00:42 and he taught in a wonderful way. 00:44 And we know this morning 00:46 that the Lord has a message in store. 00:48 An unusual titled one I've never heard before, 00:51 Drapetomania. 00:53 Say that with me, Drapetomania. 00:55 What does that mean? 00:57 That's why you need to stay tuned to find out. 01:00 Yesterday, it was about holy laughter 01:02 and the prior message that he began the series with, 01:06 here in our Foundation of Faith series 01:08 was the Coming Superstorm. 01:11 There is one more message 01:12 in this series of four messages 01:14 that he will be preaching this afternoon and titled 01:17 "They shall hunger no more" 01:21 Dr. Dedrick Blue has been in Ministry 01:24 more than 30 years. 01:25 He's been married 33 years, 01:27 he has three grown children and a lovely life 01:30 whom he publicly proclaimed, "I love my wife very much." 01:34 He's been a pastor-teacher, college administrator, 01:37 and his passion for Ministry also leads into the area 01:41 of dealing with affordable housing, health, 01:44 and educational disparities. 01:47 He's currently serving as the Dean 01:49 of the School of Religion at Oakwood University, 01:51 and he's a native of Boston, Massachusetts. 01:55 What a lot to remember! Amen. 09:07 Amen. Now don't get me wrong. 09:11 I like my house. 09:15 I love my wife. I like my job. 09:21 But I'm looking forward 09:22 to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, 09:25 because I have not seen and ear has not heard, 09:29 neither has it entered into the hearts of men 09:31 that thinks that God asked for prayer first. 09:34 Amen? Amen. 09:35 So yeah, this is a nice place to be, 09:37 and you look like you're all wonderful 09:39 and beautiful people. 09:40 But guess what, when we get to heaven, 09:42 you're gonna be even more beautiful 09:43 than you are now. 09:44 Amen? Amen. 09:46 Matter of fact, I was telling my wife the other day, 09:47 I can hardly wait to get to heaven. 09:48 When I get to heaven, 09:50 I'm gonna have hair back on my bald head once again. 09:52 When I get to Heaven, 09:54 I'm gonna have the body of Arnold Schwarzenegger, 09:55 I'm gonna be looking good, right? 09:57 So I'm looking forward 09:58 to the soon coming of Jesus Christ, 10:00 but not only that, 10:01 I'm looking forward to the end of sin. 10:03 Amen. 10:05 I'm looking forward to the vindication of God. 10:08 I'm looking forward to the triumph of truth. 10:11 I'm looking forward 10:13 to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. 10:15 Amen? Amen. 10:17 I want to tell you, this morning, 10:18 I have greatly enjoyed myself being here 10:21 at the Dare to Dream Network. 10:22 What a wonderful place! 10:24 And what a wonderful and tremendous 10:26 and important ministry this is. 10:29 For right now, there are people 10:30 who are sitting in their homes who are watching, 10:33 and there's who are sitting at home watching today, 10:36 I believe that the Holy Spirit allowed you to tune in today 10:40 because God has a message for you. 10:42 Amen. 10:44 As we spend a few moments around the Word of God today. 10:47 I'm gonna ask and pray that wherever you are 10:49 that you would open your Bibles and follow along with us. 10:53 God has a special blessing in store for you this day. 10:57 Let's bow our heads 10:58 as we approach God forward a prayer. 11:01 Our father in heaven, we thank You so very much, 11:06 for that wonderful song sung by Sister King today, 11:10 We shall behold him. Amen. 11:14 Face to face! 11:16 Oh, Lord, that's what we live for, 11:18 and that's what we long for. 11:20 As much we enjoyed this world, we're tired of this old world. 11:23 This old world is not our final home. 11:26 We're looking for a better city 11:27 whose builder and whose maker is God. 11:31 And so Lord, 11:32 because we're looking forward to, 11:34 would You also preparing us. 11:36 And so we ask Him praising in this time of preparation 11:40 that You would open our hearts 11:41 to be receptive to the moving of Your spirit. 11:45 And as we open Your world, dear Lord, 11:47 lead us and guide us into all truth. 11:50 This day send the spirit of the living God 11:52 and bind the forces of the evil one 11:55 and loose someone today from bondage. 11:59 May the words of my mouth 12:00 and the meditations of our hearts 12:03 be acceptable in Thy sight. 12:05 Oh, Lord, our strengthen and Our Redeemer 12:06 in Jesus name. 12:08 Amen. Amen. 12:14 I shall never forgive. 12:20 I was lying in my bed in my room... 12:26 about to go to sleep, 12:30 when all of a sudden I heard the voice 12:34 of about two little children calling my name. 12:38 "Dedrick! Dedrick!" 12:43 I turned around to see if anyone was there, 12:45 but there was no one in the room, 12:47 and so I turned back over to go to sleep. 12:51 But I heard the voices again, 12:53 calling my name "Dedrick, Dedrick," 12:55 and this time it sounded like more children. 13:00 I put the pillow over my head but it got loud, 13:02 and so I got up and went to the window to look outside 13:05 to see if someone were outside of my window, 13:08 but there was no one there. 13:10 I went to the back of the house 13:12 and opened the back window to see 13:13 if there was someone there, but there was no one there. 13:15 I got back in my bed 13:17 and put the pillow over my head 13:20 to drowned out the sound. 13:22 And all I could hear over and over again 13:24 were children calling my name, 13:28 "Dedrick! Dedrick!" 13:30 Louder and louder and more insistent. 13:34 That night, I did not really believe in God, I didn't. 13:39 I was an evolved atheist, I did not believe in God. 13:43 But you know something, 13:45 when you get scared all of a sudden, 13:46 you know how to believe in God. 13:50 Like when you're in a fox hole and folks are shooting at you, 13:52 you say, "Oh, God!" Right? 13:54 You're in school and you have to take a test, 13:56 and you don't know any answer, 13:57 "Oh, God." Right? 13:58 All of a sudden, I called up on the name of God 14:01 and the voice has stopped. 14:02 The next morning I got up and I went to my mother 14:04 and I said, "Mother, mother, I don't know what's happening, 14:06 I hear people calling my name at night." 14:09 And my mother just looked at me 14:10 and pointed her finger at me in her godly way says, 14:12 "Son, that's because you are not living right." 14:18 She said that devil is after you. 14:21 Have mercy. 14:24 You know, over the years I have learned something, 14:26 I've learned that there is a true statement 14:28 that was written in a book called "Great Controversy," 14:31 page 516, 14:34 and it says this, 14:36 "There is nothing 14:38 that the great deceiver fears so much 14:42 as that we shall become acquainted with his devices." 14:48 Satan is afraid of the fact 14:50 that we shall pull back the covers 14:51 and find out that really it is him 14:53 who is whispering in our ears. 14:55 It is really him 14:56 who is causing us the trouble and turmoil in our life. 14:59 He fears that more than anything else. 15:03 The title of this morning's message 15:04 is called Drapetomania. 15:07 Drapetomania. 15:09 Now, have you ever heard 15:11 of a mental illness called drapetomania? 15:15 Well, it was prominent 15:16 and quite prevalent back in the 1800s. 15:20 But if you would have checked your diagnostic manual today, 15:23 you would not find drapetomania in there anymore. 15:26 Right? 15:28 But that winter was considered to be very, very 15:29 severe condition and a serious condition. 15:33 What drapetomania was this? 15:36 It was an official psychiatric diagnosis of mental illness 15:43 that was described by an epidemic 15:47 in African Americans, only African Americans. 15:53 Drapetomania was the condition 15:58 that black slaves wanted to be free. 16:05 And so if you are a black slave on a plantation 16:08 and you wanted to be free, 16:09 if you had a compulsion to be free, 16:12 then you were considered to be mentally ill. 16:15 You were a drapetomaniac. 16:19 Listen to this description by Elias B. Caldwell. 16:22 He said, he said this about the slaves, 16:25 "The more you improve the condition of these people, 16:28 the more you cultivate their minds, 16:30 the more miserable you make them. 16:34 You give them a higher relish for those privileges 16:36 which they can never attain 16:38 and turn what we intend for a blessing into a curse." 16:43 So if a Black man want to be free, 16:45 he was called a drapetomaniac, 16:47 he was considered to be one who had a mental disease. 16:51 But I want to let you know this morning 16:53 that I'm a drapetomaniac and I'm a proud drapetomaniac. 16:58 And if drapretomania is a mental illness, 17:00 then I guess, I'm just crazy because I want to be free. 17:04 Amen. 17:05 You see, there's something 17:07 in the bosom of every human being 17:09 that desires freedom. 17:13 There's something that is in our bosom 17:15 that says that we are meant to be more than 17:17 what we are right now. 17:19 There's something inside of us that tells us 17:22 that we are not supposed to settle for the low life 17:24 that we are living at this present time. 17:28 And if drapetomania is an illness, 17:29 then let me be ill, I want to be free. 17:31 Amen. 17:33 I want to be free from the tyranny of Satan. 17:36 And I want to be free from the yoke of the devil. 17:40 I want to be a drapetomaniac 17:42 because I believe this morning 17:45 that God has determined that we shall be free. 17:47 Amen. 17:49 I believe that perhaps they made me someone 17:51 who is listening to me right now, 17:53 who desires freedom. 17:56 Freedom from sin 17:58 and freedom from the sin that does so easily beset you. 18:02 And freedom from the tyranny of devils and demons 18:05 in your life, drapetomania. 18:08 I've text this morning, refined a drapetomaniac, 18:13 in the book of Mark 5, in Mark 5, 18:16 we find a story of a man desiring to be free, 18:21 a drapetomaniac. 18:22 Mark 5, I'm beginning with verse one. 18:26 And the Bible says this, 18:29 "And they came over to the other side of the sea 18:33 into the country of the Gerasenes. 18:37 And when He, Jesus, was coming out of the ship, 18:40 immediately, they met Him a man out of the tombs 18:44 which had an unclean spirit." 18:49 Jesus has just crossed over to see that night. 18:51 And you'll remember 18:52 if you read the previous chapter 18:54 that night as Jesus got into the boat. 18:56 Satan whipped up a storm of satanic fury. 19:00 If you ever read the book "The Desire of Ages," 19:02 the writer of the book Ellen White says 19:04 that there was a storm that Satan whipped up 19:06 and he designed that storm to kill Jesus. 19:10 The disciples were panicking as water coming into the boat. 19:14 And all of a sudden in the midst of 19:15 that demonic satanic storm, 19:19 Jesus, 19:20 who is the Sovereign King of the universe-- 19:22 Amen. 19:23 Is not terrified by the storm, 19:25 instead He raises His hand up to the sky 19:28 and looks at it and says, "Peace, be still." 19:31 And then, immediately, 19:32 the winds whisper an apology to the Savior. 19:37 And immediately the sea becomes calm as glass 19:40 and gently rocks the Savior in the boat. 19:45 After that confrontation, 19:46 Jesus now comes over to the other side of the sea 19:49 and the air is fresh, and the morning is bright, 19:52 and sky is bluer because Jesus is there. 19:56 And the flowers are sweeter because Jesus is there, 19:59 and the birds are chirping more beautiful 20:01 because Jesus is there. 20:04 But then, all of a sudden, 20:05 the morning ear is pierced with the bloodcurdling scream. 20:11 The Bible says that as soon as Jesus got out of the boat, 20:15 they met Him a man who had an unclean spirit. 20:21 Here in the pages of scripture, "The Great Controversy," 20:24 is being played out in miniature. 20:27 Notice the contrast between the two. 20:31 Jesus stands there calm and erect and direct. 20:36 The man stands there bent, 20:38 and twisted, and nailed, 20:41 Jesus stands there cloved in humanity, divinity, 20:46 cloved in humanity. 20:48 And the man stands there 20:49 with his clothes ripped and torn. 20:53 The man's eyes are darting wildly 20:55 and Jesus eyes are calm and penetrating. 21:00 The man looks like 21:02 what every man will become because of sin, 21:06 but Jesus looks like what every man may become 21:10 because of the victory of Jesus. 21:14 The contrast just stopped, and the Bible says, 21:17 "This man is moved, and motivated, 21:19 and animated, and activated by demons." 21:24 Now I know that these days, 21:26 it's not polite to talk about demons. 21:29 It's seems old fashion in Christian circles. 21:32 It seems a little bit out of date, 21:34 and little anachronistic, 21:38 maybe we should confine demons to scary movies 21:42 and Hollywood tails. 21:45 These days, people tell you 21:46 that the devil does not really exist. 21:49 They are instead, 21:51 they were sociological forces that shape human behavior. 21:55 They say that the devil does not really exists 21:57 that he is merely a mythological creature 22:00 in the Bible used to demonstrate evil 22:03 and an alternative lifestyle. 22:07 They say that the devil does not exist, that instead, 22:11 it is only the darker side of your mind, the eared, 22:15 the undeveloped child, the ancient archetype. 22:19 But when I read my Bible, the Bible is clear, 22:23 the Bible says that, 22:24 "There are such things as unclean spirits." 22:27 And I want to let you know today 22:29 that Stephen King did not invent them, 22:31 and Hollywood did not create them. 22:34 For the Bible says in Revelation 16 22:36 that "Unclean spirits like frogs 22:40 are gone out into the world." 22:43 The Bible makes it plain 22:44 that these are unclean spirits are fallen angels 22:47 under the command of Satan 22:50 who was cast down from heaven 22:52 and he was now down here on earth. 22:55 These demons are spiritual beings. 22:58 For the Bible reminds us 22:59 that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, 23:03 but against principalities and against powers, 23:06 not flesh and blood. 23:07 I wish that the devil were flesh and blood. 23:09 I wish I could get my hands around his neck. 23:13 Come on now. 23:14 But unfortunately, the Bible says, 23:17 "There is a spiritual entity." These are spiritual beings. 23:21 Not only that, the Bible also says 23:23 that these spiritual beings are organized. 23:26 The Bible says 23:28 that they operate in principalities and powers. 23:31 In other words, 23:32 they organize themselves for warfare, 23:36 and they organize a strategy of attack 23:39 against the people of God. 23:42 And we are warned in Revelation 12:12, 23:46 "Woe therefore to the inhibitors 23:48 of the earthen of the sea, 23:49 because the devil has come down 23:52 on to us having great wrap, because he understands, 23:55 he has, but has short time." 23:58 And look what he does, look at what the demons do. 24:02 "They tempt the disobedience", Genesis 3:1. 24:06 "They inflict disease," Job 2:7. 24:10 "They removed good seed that is sowed in the heart," 24:12 Matthew 13:19. 24:15 "They sow tares," Matthew 13:38. 24:19 "They ruined body and soul," Luke 9:42. 24:23 "They lie," John 8:44. 24:26 "They instigate men to sin," John 13:2. 24:30 "And they preyed upon men and women," 24:33 1 Peter 5:8. 24:35 "Be sober and Be vigilant 24:36 because you have a survey like a lion roams about 24:41 seeking whom he may devour." 24:44 Demonic activity is real and demons are real. 24:48 And there is a rise in demonic activity 24:51 in the world today. 24:53 You know, during this past year, 2015, 24:57 there was a mass shooting everyday of the year 25:01 in the United States of America, 25:02 every day, every day. 25:06 Now, we don't hear about them all 25:07 and there is a reason why, 25:10 one of the reasons why you don't hear 25:11 about of them all because if people really knew 25:13 what was behind some of these mass murders, 25:15 they would be panic. 25:17 Some of these mass murderers 25:19 actually are being moved and motivated by demons. 25:24 The Oregon shooter 25:25 was into Satanism and into witchcraft. 25:28 Adam Lanza, 25:31 who shot up the children in Newtown, Connecticut, 25:34 was into witchcraft. 25:35 And you can go on and on and on. 25:37 When they go into the background, 25:40 they began to check 25:42 "What makes these people do what they do?" 25:45 There's only one answer that is left. 25:48 John 8:44 says that, "The devil is a liar 25:52 and a murderer from the beginning. 25:55 And demons are stalking the land. 25:58 And they've left unchecked 26:00 every single one of us 26:02 will fall victim to their prey." 26:05 It's only by the grace of God 26:07 holding back the winds of strive 26:09 until the servants of God are sealed. 26:12 And why do they attack? 26:14 Someone said, "Well, they attack." 26:16 But why? 26:17 Why on me? I'm not doing anything. 26:18 Why are demons picking on me? 26:20 Well, demons sometimes attack you 26:22 simply because you are. 26:26 You see, when God made us, He made us in his image. 26:31 Now I remember, I remember, 26:33 when my son was about this height, 26:35 there was somebody, 26:37 there is a little kid who got mad with me. 26:39 Right? 26:40 'Cause I told him to go sit down or something. 26:42 And so he couldn't hit me, 26:45 so he went and found my son and hit my son, 26:48 'cause my son looks like me, he's in my image. 26:51 I call my son-- I used to call him a "mini-me", 26:53 but now he is a-- 26:55 I guess I'm a mini him, he's like 6' 3", 26:56 and I'm only 6' 1". 26:58 Now he looks down on top my baldhead 26:59 and pass by top of the head. 27:00 But you're made in the image of the God, 27:03 all right. 27:05 And because you were made in the image of God 27:07 and Satan hates God, 27:09 he attacks you simply because you are. 27:13 Number two, demons attack you because sometimes, 27:15 you give them the right of access. 27:19 You give them the right of access. 27:20 For example, when you start to dabble in the Occult, 27:23 or false religions, or new age movement, 27:26 or sexual lifestyles that have not been 27:31 condoned by the Word of God. 27:35 You know, when I was growing up, 27:36 sin used to be called sin, 27:38 but now we have all kinds of cute names for sin right. 27:40 Don't we? 27:41 Back when I was-- I'm old guy, sin was just sin. 27:45 So lying was just lying, 27:48 but now lying is called prevarication. 27:52 Stealing was just stealing, but now stealing is called 27:55 a misappropriation of funds, right? 27:59 Cheating on your spouses is called cheating on yourself, 28:02 you're an adulterated... 28:04 you're a whoremonger, 28:05 but now it's called an alternative lifestyle 28:08 between two consenting adults, right? 28:11 You know, I mean, 28:12 the devil knows how to wrap it up, right? 28:14 And package it in such a way. 28:16 And so, the lifestyles 28:19 that were once condemned by society 28:22 based upon the Word of God are now condoned. 28:24 And if you speak out against it, 28:27 "There is something that is wrong with you." 28:32 Another way, any type of Satan worshiping, 28:36 whether we do music, or drugs, or alcohol, 28:40 any type of verbal or physical abuse 28:44 is avenue for Satan. 28:46 A promiscuous lifestyle and criminal activity, 28:48 or bringing a cursed object into your home. 28:53 Let me tell you something, I used to live in Thailand, 28:55 I was a student missionary in Thailand. 28:58 I remember leaving Thailand, and one of my students came 29:01 and they gave me a little metal, 29:03 and they said, "Here, teacher, this is for you, 29:06 this little metal will bring you luck." 29:08 And so, I took the metal, 29:10 and it had a picture of a monk on the outside, 29:12 some writing on the outside, some symbols on the back. 29:14 And I took it home and I said, 29:16 "Okay I'm gonna keep it as a beautiful keepsake." 29:17 But, you know, there's something about that metal 29:19 that never made me feel right. 29:22 I put that metal by my bed at night 29:24 because it was a little keepsake. 29:26 I started having strange dreams. 29:27 I said, "Something is not right with this thing, man." 29:30 I finally got that metal and I threw it out. 29:33 And when I threw it out, 29:34 there was peace in my home once again. 29:35 Amen. 29:37 Don't you know and understand that 29:38 there are certain objects that are cursed? 29:40 That's right. 29:41 Don't you know, for example, there are certain movies 29:43 that you can bring into your home that are cursed? 29:45 The people who made them, 29:47 put the curse on them when they made them. 29:49 They prayed to the devil when they were making them. 29:52 And if you don't believe that 29:54 the devil is about cursing people, 29:56 then you are sadly mistaken. 29:58 My wife was on a plane one day, 29:59 and she was sitting next to a man, 30:02 and as she sat next this man, 30:06 the man ordered his vegetarian meal, 30:08 and she ordered a vegetarian meal 30:09 and the stew just came 30:11 and brought her, her vegetarian meal, 30:13 and when she brought him his meal, 30:15 he said, "Oh, no, thank you." 30:16 So my wife was impressed that this man, 30:18 this good looking man was a vegetarian. 30:20 She said, perhaps, 30:22 he is a person of my same faith. 30:25 So she turned to him and said, "Sir, I see you're vegetarian." 30:28 He says, "Yes, I'm a vegetarian." 30:29 She says, "Well, I'm a vegetarian, too." 30:31 And so, she says to him, 30:34 "Do you practice vegetarian for religious reasons?" 30:36 He said, "Oh, yes, I do." She said, "Well, I do, too." 30:40 Right? 30:41 And so she said, "Well, I'm a Christian and I eat 30:45 'cause I'm trying to keep my body 30:46 as the temple of the Holy Ghost." 30:48 And he said, "Well, guess what, I'm a Satanist, 30:51 and I, usually, would eat my vegetarian meal, 30:54 but today I'm fasting and I'm praying 30:57 along with my brothers and sisters 31:00 for the destruction of Christian homes." 31:05 Let me tell you, another way that Satan gets into your life 31:09 and starts to harass you 31:10 is through this third party intervention. 31:13 There are some people who are ought to get you 31:17 and will try any means they can to put a curse on you. 31:22 Now if you don't believe this, 31:23 you need to go to certain parts of the world. 31:26 I was preaching a series one time 31:28 in a country on the other side of the world. 31:30 I won't name the country 31:32 because I don't want to characterize 31:33 all those people. 31:35 But I was there 31:36 and I was preaching on a back alley somewhere, 31:39 all of a sudden, the witch doctors came 31:42 and they wanted to put a curse on me. 31:44 And the whole time I was preaching, 31:45 they were standing around the outside, 31:47 just throwing curses, and yelling, and screaming, 31:49 and the people were terrified. 31:52 When I made my appeal to ask folks 31:54 to come to give their life to Jesus, 31:56 some people came and at that moment, 31:58 the witch doctors could contain themselves no more, 32:00 and they lunged at me, 32:02 as if they were going to try to tear me apart. 32:05 And the elders and the Deacons grabbed them 32:07 to hold them as I was still making my appeal. 32:10 And finally, I say it in the name of Jesus, 32:13 the name of Jesus, "Shut your mouth 32:16 and go back to where you came from!" 32:18 And they shut up and sat down and walked away. 32:21 Sometimes, demonic harassment occurs 32:25 because there were other people 32:26 who were trying to put things on you. 32:29 Sometimes, demonic harassment occurs 32:31 because of things that have transpired in your family. 32:35 Ain't it? 32:36 I come from a long land of spiritual people. 32:41 I had a great grand daddy, who was a preacher, 32:44 but my father wasn't, his son wasn't. 32:48 But my great grand daddy was a powerful preacher, 32:50 built one of the largest Baptist churches 32:52 in North Carolina, right? 32:54 On the other side, I had a great grand daddy 32:57 who never was a ordained minister, 32:59 but he was a powerful preaching elder, 33:01 everyone, always called in to preach 33:03 I never met either one of those men. 33:05 Now listen, 33:08 the call of ministry skipped a couple of generations, 33:11 but it fell on me. 33:13 I read in the Bible, just like God has, 33:16 the levied sin, those who are set aside for peace to it, 33:19 I also believe that God has people 33:22 who He calls to ministry. 33:24 Amen. Am I right? 33:26 There are families who are set aside for ministry 33:29 because somewhere way back in the olden days, 33:32 grand daddy or great, great, great, great, 33:33 great, great grand daddy said, 33:35 "Lord, bless my children and my children 33:38 and my children's children's children." 33:40 Well, just like them, there was somebody praying for me 33:42 before I was born, 33:44 there may be somebody in your background 33:46 or in your life 33:48 who dedicated themselves to the enemy of souls, 33:50 who was praying for you before you were born as well. 33:54 And maybe, just maybe 33:55 the demonic harassment that is in your life 33:58 is the result of the generational curse. 34:01 Now I know some people don't believe 34:03 in generational curses, 34:04 but generational curses are biblical. 34:06 How do I know, because when Adam sinned, 34:08 he passed the generational curse 34:10 on to all of us, isn't that right? 34:14 Soul is set, so perhaps. 34:16 The devil is in your life in one of these ways. 34:20 So this man, the Bible says, 34:22 "This unclean spirit was living amongst the tombs." 34:26 And it says here that, "No man could bind him, 34:28 no, not with chains." 34:30 Listen to it, verse 4, 34:32 "Because He had often been bound with fetters and chains, 34:38 and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, 34:41 and fetters were broken in pieces." 34:43 And it says, "Neither could any man tame Him." 34:48 Hm-mm. 34:49 Listen, those fetters and those chains 34:53 represent society's attempt 34:58 to control demonic behavior. 35:03 We use police to control behavior. 35:08 We use psychologist and psychiatrist 35:10 to control behavior. 35:13 We call it deviant behavior, characteristic disorder, 35:17 multiple personality disorder, we throw drugs at it 35:20 and we make laws forward, 35:22 but we refuse to understand 35:25 that something's can't be treated by drugs and laws, 35:28 isn't that right? 35:30 And if a demon is controlling you, 35:32 then no teacher can tame you, no parent can stop you, 35:35 no spouse can prevent you, no judge can order you, 35:38 and no preacher can pray you through. 35:40 Amen? Amen. 35:42 Am I right? 35:44 Because it says, "Often times, often times, 35:47 he broke the chains." 35:49 And then it says, "And day and night, 35:51 he was always in the mountains and in the tombs crying, 35:55 cutting himself with stones," 35:56 notice here, that when demon start to activate 36:00 and move into your life, 36:03 it often manifests itself in self-destructive behavior. 36:09 You see, Satan wants to destroy your life. 36:11 And the one thing he cannot create his life, 36:13 and so he would attempt to destroy the life 36:16 that God has given to you. 36:17 So if you are feeling suicidal today, 36:20 or you were in some sort of self-destructive behavior, 36:23 that is sapping the life out of you, 36:25 you need to know and understand 36:26 that that is not of God that is the work of the enemy. 36:31 Now, I don't have much time so I'm gonna have to move on 36:36 'cause I want to get into a good part. 36:37 I don't believe in glorifying the devil. 36:40 I believe in giving Jesus pray. Amen. 36:43 Amen. 36:45 So listen, this man was in a bad state of affairs 36:49 or awful way to go. 36:51 It says though in verse 6, 36:53 "But when he saw Jesus a far off, 36:57 he ran a man and he worshipped him. 37:01 When he saw Jesus a far off, he worshipped him." 37:05 Now something strange about this text 37:07 and I missed it the first time I read it. 37:09 When I went back and I read it again, 37:10 then I saw it more clearly. 37:11 It says, it says this, "When the man saw Jesus, 37:14 the man worshiped." 37:17 Now notice the demons don't worship. 37:21 It's impossible for demon to worship 37:23 because worship is heartfelt praise 37:24 an admiration toward God, 37:26 or worship emerges out of a heart of phrase 37:28 and joy and thanksgiving, right? 37:29 Isn't that right? So demons cannot worship. 37:32 So it says, that when this man saw Jesus, right, 37:35 I can imagine that the demons who were possessing him 37:38 were holding him back and saying to him, 37:40 "I dare you not go worship Jesus," right? 37:44 But it says here, "When the man saw Jesus, 37:47 he couldn't help himself." 37:48 Amen. Amen. 37:50 You see, if you are caught 37:52 in the throes of some demonic possession, 37:55 all you have to do is keep looking at Jesus. 37:58 You might be being harassed, but the demons cannot hold you. 38:01 Am I right? 38:03 All you have to do is turn your eyes upon Jesus 38:05 and look would fall on his wonderful face 38:07 and the things of earth will grow strangely dim 38:09 and the light of his glory and grace. 38:11 The Bible says, "He worshiped." 38:14 He worshipped. Now, I want to tell you. 38:18 You might not have much left inside of you, 38:21 but whatever you have left inside of you, 38:24 if you have to catch a glimpse of the Savior 38:26 move in the direction of God 38:29 for there is help in the direction of Jesus. 38:31 There is hope in the direction of Jesus. 38:33 There is victory in the direction of Jesus. 38:36 Amen. Praise God. 38:38 How do I know? 38:40 Next few minutes let me just share this with you. 38:42 I have many things to share with you. 38:43 You cannot bear them all now. So let me share a few things. 38:50 I grew up in a Christian home, 38:52 but I was far off from being a Christian, far. 38:57 I guess my, my first introduction into, 38:59 into, into the occult was a little game 39:02 called Kreskin's ESP. 39:05 And it had a little pendulum 39:06 and you could hold the pendulum up 39:08 and you would ask it questions, and then it would move, 39:11 it would move this way for yes, and that way for no. 39:13 And then, it will go around in circles for maybe. 39:17 If you held a perfectly still, 39:18 it wouldn't move back and forth. 39:21 In the same way, then when people play 39:22 a Ouija board, 39:23 you know, you don't have to do holding your hands 39:25 perfectly still, it'll move all by itself. 39:27 I thought this was fascinating, and I thought this was fun, 39:30 little did I know and understand, 39:32 what forces were behind it. 39:37 I grew up in a single parent household, 39:38 and my father wasn't then, you know, I grew up sort of, 39:42 not liking my father too much, I hated my father. 39:44 So when I went to church and people would say, 39:46 "Oh, we have to love our heavenly father," 39:48 I think to myself, "How in the world 39:50 can I love a God, 39:51 a heavenly father who I've not seen, 39:53 and I can't love the earthly father 39:55 who is right here, who I see. 39:58 It was right there and my young heart 39:59 that Satan begin to sow the seeds of rebellion 40:02 and hatred against God. 40:04 So I say this to you, listen to me carefully, 40:07 you don't have to be old to be under the influence of demons, 40:10 demons affect children as well. 40:13 He attacks them at the time of their weakness 40:15 and in the time of their youth. 40:18 In my youth, I loved musicians, I've loved music. 40:21 My father was a musician and I loved, 40:23 I loved to play the drums 40:24 and I would sit there all day long 40:25 and, and play drums 40:27 and I have nothing against drums. 40:28 Drums are just an instrument like any other instrument. 40:31 They can be used for good or used for evil. 40:34 But I've also come to know and understand, 40:36 just like you can make a piano, give glory to God, 40:38 you can make it give glory to the devil as well. 40:40 I've come to know and understand 40:41 that there were times when I was beating that drum 40:43 that something else was working. 40:45 I would find myself beating the drum for hours 40:48 and wake up five hours later 40:51 and not know what happened to the time. 40:55 It's about that time also I started becoming involved 40:58 in an martial arts and Chinese philosophy. 41:02 So I started practicing these things, 41:04 and then as I started moving into the, 41:06 into the realm of telekinesis, 41:08 I wanted to make things move with my mind 41:11 and I would sit there and concentrate on things 41:13 until they can move. 41:15 And then I want to get into telep, telepathy 41:19 and sit there and think thoughts 41:21 and try to put my thoughts inside somebody's head. 41:24 And I would sit there on the train 41:26 and I would see a pretty girl, I would think to myself, 41:29 "Now, you get over it, come over here and talk to me, 41:31 you come over here and talk to me, 41:32 you come over here and talk to me. 41:34 I'm sending you the message come over here and talk to me." 41:37 And guess what? 41:39 She would come over and talk to me. 41:40 And I said to myself, "Oh, what great power I have!" 41:43 Little did I understand how Satan works, right? 41:46 While he was putting the thought in my mind, 41:49 he was also putting the thought in hers. 41:51 It was not my power all, 41:53 it was his power is the puppeteer 41:55 making both of us act. 41:57 Amen. 41:59 It was about that same time, 42:01 that I started hearing the voices. 42:04 First, it was the children in my room, 42:06 and then the voices got louder and more distinct. 42:09 Finally, I'd be walking down the street 42:12 and I would hear the voices say to me, 42:14 "Take that man and kill him. 42:15 Take his head and smash it into the ground. 42:18 Kill him! Kill him! Kill him!" 42:22 It became so bad 42:24 that when I would walk down the street 42:26 and I would see a church, 42:27 I would cross on the other side of the street 42:30 so I wouldn't be on the same side of the street 42:33 as the church. 42:37 One day, one day, I got so scared. 42:43 I didn't know what to do. 42:47 My mother said to me, 42:48 "There's a revival going on in church, 42:49 I want to you to come to that revival." 42:52 "Mom, I ain't going to revival." 42:54 "You need to come to the revival." 42:56 And so for the first time in years, 42:59 I found myself standing at the back of the church. 43:03 And when the preacher made the appeal, 43:05 I found myself strangely walking down to front 43:10 because for the first time in my life, 43:12 I had caught a glimpse of Jesus. 43:15 Amen. 43:18 I never forget the day, when I was getting baptized 43:20 as I was getting baptized, 43:22 I said the story of the other night 43:23 as I was getting baptized. 43:25 I went to the church that day. 43:26 Before I had got to church, 43:28 somebody actually stabbed me in the back, 43:30 on my way to church, 43:31 someone stabbed me in the back on my way to church 43:33 'cause see, Satan will not give up without a fight, 43:35 stabbed me in my back on the way to church. 43:37 But I went to church anyway with the wound in my back. 43:41 When I've got to church 43:42 that the demons were still speaking in my ear 43:45 yelling at me, "Get out of here! 43:46 Get out of here! Run out of here! 43:48 Scream! Scream! Scream!" 43:49 As I got into the pool, I will never forget my, 43:51 my pastor, my pastor held his hand over my head 43:54 and used the past to say good things about you. 43:56 "Oh, I'm we're so glad. 43:57 This man is here to be baptized, 43:59 he loves the Lord." 44:00 My pastors stood and said, "I don't believe that, 44:02 I just don't believe this." 44:07 But the demons were still yelling in my ear 44:10 until he said, 44:12 "I have baptized you in the name of the Father 44:15 and the Son and the Holy Ghost." 44:17 And I went under the water and, immediately, 44:20 when I went under the water, the voices stopped. 44:24 Come on now. Amen. 44:25 Amen. 44:27 When people talk about the role of demons, 44:30 I don't talk theoretically. 44:33 I talk from personal experience. 44:36 I have learned that you can't play around with the devil. 44:40 You can't tiptoe around evil. 44:42 You got to call sin by its right name. 44:45 You've got to stand up for the truth of God. 44:48 And when God opens a door, when God makes an opportunity, 44:52 when he provides a way, 44:54 you need to run in the direction of Jesus. 44:57 The man ran in the direction of Jesus. 45:00 When he saw Jesus, he said, "This is my hope, 45:04 there's something burning inside of me 45:07 that wants to be free. 45:08 I refused to be slave anymore. 45:11 Before, I'd be a slave, I'll be buried in my grave 45:15 and go home to my Lord and be free. 45:18 I'm a cryptomaniac." 45:20 The man ran in the direction of Jesus. 45:23 Well, listen, when the man fell at the feet of Jesus 45:27 and worshipped. 45:29 As he opened his mouth, the demon spoke. 45:33 The demon said, "Jesus, what have we to do with You? 45:36 You've come here to torment us." 45:39 Let me tell you something, 45:42 you might be home right now watching this television. 45:45 And the Lord is speaking to you at this very moment. 45:49 But even as you catch a glimpse of, of Jesus, 45:53 the demons are speaking through you. 45:56 You might be even be cursing the television set right now, 46:00 looking at me calling me a liar. 46:03 But I'm here to tell you that whatever is left inside of you, 46:08 Jesus heals the faint as plea. 46:10 Amen, yes. 46:11 He, he has the humblest call. 46:13 Praise God in our belief. 46:15 There's nothing. 46:16 His arm is not too shorten that he cannot save, 46:18 and His ear is not so heavy that He cannot hear. 46:22 If you call upon Him now, 46:24 He will save you for who so ever calls 46:26 upon the name of the Lord will be saved. 46:28 But pastor, I have tried 46:30 but when I do that, the demon stopped me. 46:32 Here's the thing I like about Jesus. 46:34 Jesus looks at the, at the man who has the demon, 46:38 and the demon is cursing at Jesus, 46:40 but Jesus does not respond to the demon. 46:44 Jesus responds to the need of the man. 46:48 Hallelujah! 46:50 Aren't you glad? 46:51 Aren't you glad that when you mess up, 46:53 God looks at you still, He looks beyond your faults, 46:57 and he addresses your needs? 46:59 Amen. Amen. 47:01 And so He hears the man's unspoken request 47:04 because he sees his humble heart. 47:07 And Jesus says, "In the name of the Father, 47:11 come out of the man." 47:13 Amen. 47:16 Wherever you are at this moment, 47:20 I declare to you that Jesus can and will deliver. 47:28 I read in the Bible that although, 47:33 the devil is the head, although the devil operates 47:36 under principalities and powers, 47:39 Jesus is the head of principalities and powers. 47:41 Amen. Amen. 47:44 I read in the Bible 47:46 that when the enemy shall come in like a flood, 47:50 the Lord will rise up a standard against, you know... 47:52 Praise God. 47:54 I read in the Bible that "The angels of the Lord 47:57 and camps around about them that fear him 48:00 and God delivers them." 48:04 I read, "The greater is He that is in you 48:07 than He that is in the world." 48:10 I read, I read, "If God before you, 48:14 who can be against you." 48:15 Amen. 48:17 I read in the Word of God that, 48:18 "No weapon found against you shall prosper." 48:24 And I believe that. 48:27 God is able. 48:29 But you've got to make up in your mind 48:30 that you weren't off the plantation. 48:33 You know, when the emancipation and proclamation was signed 48:35 and the 13th amendment in 1865 giving the slaves freedom, 48:40 you know, some slaves chose to stay on the plantation 48:44 'cause they felt more comfortable 48:46 to stay on the plantation and when it was to go free. 48:49 You might not know, 48:50 what's on the other side of freedom. 48:52 You might be comfortable right now, 48:54 but that comfort always comes with a price. 48:57 Get up and make your way to Jesus. 48:59 Amen. 49:00 I conclude in the last few minutes 49:01 with this little story, 49:03 there's one illustrator staying for you, 49:05 drapetomania. 49:06 Now, I don't know about you 49:09 but I grew up in a rough neighborhood. 49:13 And my little rough neighborhood, 49:15 we sometimes had people who work the neighborhood, 49:17 they were called insurance men. 49:20 Now, you know, who an insurance man is? 49:23 An insurance man is you either pay the insurance man 49:26 or they'll break your face. 49:30 So I was in a school and there were gangs 49:32 there are gangs that operated in my school. 49:34 And the leader of this one gang his name was Louis King. 49:37 Louis King, was a bad man. He was a bad boy, bad boy. 49:40 He was so bad, that he and his friends 49:43 bragged about killing an old man for 50 cents. 49:46 And they were in the school as the insurance men, 49:48 they were collecting insurance money off of everybody. 49:52 But fortunately, they had never bothered me until one day, 49:54 I went to the bathroom and I went to the bathroom, 49:56 and there in the bathroom was Louis King. 49:58 And Louis King, comes over to me and he says, he says. 50:01 "Hey, man! You've got some money on you." 50:03 I said, "I don't have any money on me." 50:04 He said, "You got some money," 50:06 and "I don't have any money on me." 50:07 He says, he says, "Give me a nickel." 50:09 Back then, a nickel was a lot of money, 50:10 I'm old man, nickel's a lot of money back then. 50:12 He says, "Give me a nickel. 50:13 If you don't give me a nickel, I'll break your face," 50:15 and he pulled out his knife and he held it up 50:16 and held his knife up on me, so I found a nickel. 50:18 "Here, Mr. Louis King," 50:20 So he said, "Next week, I want a dime." 50:24 So the next week, I'm in school minding my own business, 50:27 and Louis King looks at me, he's pointing at me. 50:28 He says, "You got money, my money, that money?" 50:30 I tried to avoid him, 50:31 but he caught me in the hallway, 50:33 "Where's my money? Where's my money? 50:34 If you don't give me my money," 50:36 he said, "I'm gonna break your face. 50:37 Where's my dime?" 50:38 He pulled out his knife and I said, "Oh, okay Mr. King, 50:40 here's your dime." 50:43 "Next week, I want a quarter." 50:45 Right? 50:46 'Cause listen, that's how, 50:48 that's how the devil operates, isn't it? 50:49 Right? 50:50 He starts off with a little bit, 50:52 but he keeps asking for more, 50:53 that's how he wiggles his way into your life, 50:54 isn't that right? 50:57 So he came back and I gave him a quarter. 50:58 "Next week, I want 50 cents." 51:00 Next week, I want a dollar." 51:02 Now, I'm terrified to death 51:03 like everybody else in the school until finally, 51:06 he gets up to about five dollars. 51:09 The only way out of getting the money, 51:10 I was going to the bottom of my mother's purse, 51:12 trying to find the loose change. 51:14 Until I sat there and thought to myself, 51:17 "My mother works hard for her money 51:18 and Louis King is doing nothing but taking my mother's money. 51:21 He's not going to take my mother's money anymore. 51:24 So I'm gonna go back to school 51:25 and I'm going to tell Mr. Louis king, 51:27 'No, you can't have any more money.'" 51:29 So I would back to school 51:30 and I felt pretty good about myself. 51:31 He says, "Where's my money?" 51:33 I said, "I'm not going to give you any more money." 51:35 He said, "Well, then, I'll break your face." 51:38 He says, "After school, I'm gonna get you," 51:41 for I am in school all day long 51:43 and the clock is ticking down tick, tick, tick, tick. 51:45 It's getting closer, and closer to the time, 51:47 the school is getting ready to get out. 51:48 And Louis King is standing there looking at me, 51:50 "I'm gonna break your face, I'm gonna break your face." 51:52 And so finally, as the bell rang, 51:54 I ran down the stairs. 51:55 I'm going to dash out the door, be the first one out the door 51:58 before Louis King can get me, but the principle stopped me. 52:01 Alright? 52:02 Louis King caught up with me so, 52:04 they opened the door and I ran, 52:06 I decided to take the long way home 52:08 around the big wall of the mission church. 52:10 But just as I've rounded the wall, 52:12 guess who was waiting there for me? 52:14 Louis King. 52:16 He said, "Now, you don't have my money, 52:17 so I'm gonna break your face." 52:19 And he says, "By the way, I'm not going to dirty my hands 52:21 but you have to let one of my boys 52:22 take care of you." 52:24 He said, he said, he said, "Thomas, take care of him." 52:25 Now Thomas came at me like a raging bull," right? 52:28 He's going to hurt me and I was so afraid, 52:31 I didn't know what to do. I just started swinging. 52:34 I don't know I could fight and he went down. 52:37 Amen. 52:38 He said, "Well, you took care of him, 52:40 but you can't take care of Tony." 52:41 Tony came at me and I was so afraid, 52:43 I just grabbed his head like this 52:44 and I wouldn't let it go and I just swung them around, 52:46 swung him around until finally he fell down. 52:50 Louis King said, "Well, listen, 52:51 you took of this one and you took at that one, 52:53 but you can't beat all of us." 52:54 And so, at that time, 52:56 the whole gang jumped on top of me. 52:58 And they began beating me, and kicking me, 53:01 and stomping my head into the ground. 53:03 And I've thought, "I was dead for sure." 53:06 Isn't that just how the devil does? 53:08 Right? 53:10 He piles up on you. 53:11 He kicks you when you're down. 53:13 He waits till you're at your most vulnerable moment 53:15 and then, he stomps on you. 53:17 But just when I thought all hope was lost, 53:20 I've heard footsteps coming, big heavy footsteps. 53:24 And it was the footsteps of fat Mike. 53:28 Fat Mike was the leader of a rival gang. 53:31 Fat Mike looked over and saw Louis King beating on me 53:34 and he said, "King, what you doing?" 53:35 King says, "I'm just beating this guy down." 53:38 Fat Mike said, "Well, leave him alone." 53:41 And Louis King says, "Who's gonna make me." 53:44 And fat Mike said, "I said, 'Leave him alone.'" 53:47 Now fat Mike was all by himself, 53:48 King had his whole gang. 53:51 "Who go and make me?" 53:53 Fat Mike said, "I say, 'Leave him alone.'" 53:58 And Louis King said, "What?" 54:01 Fat Mike said, "I say, 'Leave him alone.'" 54:09 And fat Mike looked down and he says, 54:10 "Get up, get up, get up." 54:12 "I can't get up, he's got his foot on my head." 54:14 He said, "Get up, get up." 54:16 "I can't get up, he has his foot on my head." 54:18 Fat Mike, said, "Leave him alone." 54:22 And at the command of fat Mike, 54:24 big bad Louis King dropped his head 54:28 took his foot off my head and said, "Okay." 54:32 Fat Mike looked down at me and said, "I said 'Get up.'" 54:37 You know, what I've learned from that story? 54:39 I learned this 54:41 that all the host of all the demons 54:45 and all the world can come after you, 54:48 but it only takes one Jesus, just one Jesus, 54:53 Jesus by himself is able to defeat all the host 54:57 of all the enemies in hell. 54:59 And if you would just trust him and give your life to him, 55:03 he looks down at you and says, "What are you doing down there? 55:06 That's not where you were supposed to be. 55:09 That is not your place. 55:11 There is a better place. 55:12 I have a higher destiny for you, 55:14 a greater calling for you, get up." 55:18 Listen, Louis King took me. 55:21 He put his arm around me. 55:23 He took me to, to the bathroom 55:25 and washed the blood off of my face and sent me home. 55:29 And he said to me, "Listen, 55:31 if you have the message what you would gain, 55:34 well, you come and see me." 55:37 I came back to school, 55:39 I saw Louis King, in the classroom. 55:42 All right? 55:43 But now, I'm not walking in my power, 55:45 I'm walking in the power of fat Mike. 55:48 So he looks at me, right? 55:50 And I look at him, 55:51 and Louis King simply drops his head. 55:54 Listen, when you're walking in the power of Jesus, 55:57 no weapon formed against you can prosper. 56:00 The devil is powerless against you. 56:02 God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above 56:06 that which you could think or ask 56:08 if you trust in his power. 56:11 Today, no matter where you are no matter what you doing, 56:14 God wants to set you free. 56:16 He wants to lose those bonds, 56:18 there is no sin that He cannot forgive. 56:21 There was no chain that he cannot break. 56:24 There was no bondage that he cannot lose. 56:27 If you will only give him a chance, 56:30 he will set you free today. 56:32 In the name of Jesus in the name of Jesus, 56:36 for there is no other name given among men 56:38 whereby we might be saved, but in the name of Jesus. 56:42 Tell that devil, 56:44 "You've got your walking papers now 56:46 'cause I'm a drapetomania. 56:47 I'm crazy about my Jesus. 56:50 I'm crazy to be set free. 56:53 And I'll never go back again, into your bondage." 56:55 Let's pray. 56:56 Father in heaven right now, that person whoever they are, 56:58 where ever they are 57:00 in the name of Jesus set them free, 57:02 come into their homes, and, and to their hearts right now, 57:05 push back the forces of the enemy, 57:07 send your angels that excelled in strength 57:09 to put a head a protection around them. 57:12 Breathe upon them by the life of God, 57:15 and allow them to cast their grace upon Jesus, 57:18 and run in the direction of salvation and victory. 57:21 For Lord, we know that you are our God and our savior. 57:25 In Jesus name. 57:27 Amen.
