Good on you, thank you. 09:11 Then, I opened up some mail 09:13 from the West Coast bumper sticker. 09:18 The maker of all things loves and wants me, Bookmarks. 09:22 If you need a bookmark, 09:23 I've got a lot of these 09:25 and I'd be happy to share one with you. 09:26 What's the deal? I know everybody's excited. 09:28 I am too about this one universal truth. 09:31 When it's reduced to a simple sentence, 09:33 it simply declares, 09:35 the maker of all things loves and wants me. 09:39 But today, we're going to put 09:42 the pedal to the metal we're about over this series. 09:45 It ends next week. Don't miss it. 09:46 It's a joyous climax next week. 09:49 But today, if you get this part, 09:53 by that I mean, if you can comprehend 09:55 what we are about to share, 09:57 and I'm really jazzed about sharing it with you. 10:00 If we get this, we're talking about... 10:03 We're talking about moving, sharing the truth, 10:05 the maker of all things loves 10:07 and wants me to a militant level. 10:10 Master this as the master did. 10:15 And you'll never be the same 10:16 and neither will your little world be the same. 10:18 So let's go. 10:20 You are the everlasting Father, God, we know that. 10:23 You are the maker of all things, Lord Jesus. 10:25 We also know that. 10:28 Make it clear what we are about to share. 10:31 Let us get it. 10:33 We humbly pray in Jesus' name. 10:37 Amen. 10:41 So, when the maker of all things was here, 10:44 He mastered this Himself. 10:46 I want to watch Him. 10:48 Bringing down the strongholds, that's the title. 10:50 Is that the title? Yep. 10:51 Bringing down the strongholds. 10:55 I want to run a picture by you. Okay. 10:58 I'm going to shoot these by you so fast, 10:59 you may miss them, but that's okay 11:01 because I'm going to go to only one gospel. 11:02 I'm not going to go to Mark. 11:04 I'm not going to go to Matthew. Let's not go to John. 11:06 Let's just go to the single gospel of Luke 11:08 and watch the master who is a maker of all things 11:12 mastered this strategic maneuver. 11:14 Here we go. 11:16 We're going to start with Luke 3:21-22. 11:19 When all the people were being baptized, 11:21 Jesus was baptized too, 11:23 beautiful baptism in Genesis and sisters, 11:27 to friends and Jesus 11:28 looking forward to that baptism this afternoon. 11:31 When all the people were being baptized, 11:32 Jesus was baptized too. 11:34 And as He was, what's the word there. 11:37 Now, this is not any sort of praying. 11:38 You're going to find out, 11:40 this is not any sort of praying, 11:41 we can all pray. 11:43 Now I lay me down to sleep. 11:44 I pray the Lord, my soul to keep. 11:45 No, now this is not that kind of praying. 11:47 This is militant praying. 11:48 You will find out about it in a second. 11:51 And, as he was praying, heaven was opened up. 11:54 The everlasting Father responds 11:56 and the Holy Spirit descends on Him in bodily form. 11:58 It wasn't a dove, but it looked like a dove 12:00 and a voice came from heaven and here comes the Father. 12:02 You are My Son whom I love, with You I am well pleased. 12:06 And this afternoon, as He did it this morning, 12:08 the same Father announced 12:09 you are my daughter in whom I am well pleased. 12:13 I love you. All right. 12:15 So it opens up with this, with this weapon, 12:18 this militant weapon in the battle 12:21 to share the good news, 12:22 the maker of all things loves and wants me. 12:24 Here's Luke 5:16, 12:25 Jesus often withdrew to lonely places. 12:27 And what did He do often? 12:29 He prayed. 12:30 Here's Luke 6:12, "One of those days, 12:32 Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray 12:35 and He spent the entire night praying to God." 12:37 Mercy, keep going. 12:39 Here's Luke 9:16, 12:41 "Taking the five loaves and the two fish 12:43 and looking up to heaven." 12:44 What's He going to do now? He's going to pray. 12:46 "And He gave thanks 12:48 to the everlasting Father and broke them." 12:50 Two verses later. 12:51 He's still praying, verse 18 of Luke 9. 12:53 "Once when Jesus was praying in private, 12:56 His disciples were with Him." 12:57 I got to ask you right here. 12:59 Wouldn't it be something 13:00 if they had invented YouTube 13:01 back when Jesus was here, 13:03 because wouldn't you love to watch a video clip 13:06 of Jesus praying. 13:07 How many would love to see that? 13:09 Huh? Jesus praying. 13:10 Can you imagine the effect on you as you listen? 13:14 His disciples are blown out of the water. 13:17 You watch they're going to come to Him, 13:18 and they're going to ask Him. 13:20 Luke 9:28, "He took Peter and John and James with Him. 13:22 He went up onto a mountain to pray." 13:27 How many times has He been doing this? 13:28 Keep, keep watching. Luke 11:1. 13:30 Here they come, "Now one day 13:32 Jesus was praying in a certain place. 13:33 And one of His disciples said to Him, 'Lord, 13:35 I want You to please teach us how to pray." 13:37 Just tell me, teach us how to do what You're doing. 13:40 We're so moved by this. 13:42 Oh, we got to get it. We're going to watch Him. 13:44 Here's Luke 22 now. 13:46 This is, they've just finished the Lord's supper. 13:48 They're heading out the door and Jesus stops. 13:51 And He says, yo, wait a minute, guys, Simon, Simon. 13:55 But He's talking 13:56 to the whole group as you'll see. 13:57 "Simon, Simon, 13:59 Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 14:03 But I have prayed for you" singular now, "Simon." 14:09 Oh my. 14:12 Less than 24 hours later, He'll be dead. 14:15 This is three hours later in Gethsemane. 14:17 Luke 22:41, "And he withdrew 14:19 about a stone's throw beyond them, 14:21 and He knelt down and He prayed. 14:25 Tomorrow morning. He'll be on the cross. 14:26 He will pray twice that we know of. 14:28 Twice in the Gospel of Luke. 14:32 And here comes, Jesus said it just 14:34 before they raised the cross, 14:35 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, 14:38 they do not know what they are doing." 14:41 And He's talking to the Father, He's praying. 14:42 Every time you call out on Abba, Father, you're praying. 14:46 And He does it not just when they raised Him. 14:48 Just before he dies, these are His last words. 14:51 I would love to come to the end of my life 14:54 with these words on my lip. 14:55 Luke 23:46, And Jesus called out 14:57 with a loud voice. 14:59 This is not a whisper. 15:00 This is megalaphone in the Greek. 15:02 This is a booming shout, 15:04 "Father into Your hands I commit My spirit." 15:08 And He dies. 15:10 But not to leave Easter out, late Sunday, 15:14 He's raised and He's walking down the road 15:16 with two friends of His. 15:19 They have no idea who He is. 15:21 There was a mantle over His face, 15:22 perhaps I don't know. 15:23 Maybe their eyes were so blurry, 15:25 they're so heartbroken. 15:26 They have no idea that it's Jesus. 15:29 He walks that whole way from Jerusalem to Emmaus. 15:32 And He's gonna walk on by, 15:34 they said, no, no, no, no, no, you got to come in, you cannot. 15:38 Friend, whoever, 15:39 friend you got to come in please, 15:41 have a little supper with us, spend the night here. 15:43 You'll be on your way in the morning first thing. 15:45 And when He was at the table with the two of them, 15:49 He took bread. 15:50 He gave thanks 15:52 like they had seen Him do before 15:55 and He'd begin. 15:56 He began to give it to them. 15:58 And in that instant, 15:59 they look at each other, their eyes wide. 16:01 Wait a minute, wait, wait, wait, 16:02 have you ever say, ever seen anybody do this? 16:03 It's gotta be Jesus. He's gone, gone. 16:07 Twelve times in the Gospel of Luke, 16:10 the militant weapon. 16:11 You say, well, Dwight, this is just, you know, 16:13 praying before. 16:14 He goes, yo, don't you make that mistake? 16:17 Whatever's happening here 16:18 is hugely strategic to a certain form of prayer. 16:23 The maker of all things has learned the art. 16:27 And He's now going to invite us to exercise the art. 16:30 Could it be, here's the question? 16:32 Could it be that the war that 16:33 you and I are in is a war that is, 16:36 that is, it is shaped by rules of engagement? 16:46 Now, every civilized war, 16:47 and that seems like an oxymoron, civilized war, 16:50 but every civilized war they are codified 16:54 and mutually agreed upon rules of engagement, aren't they? 16:57 Like if you're one of the soldiers 16:59 and you got that, 17:00 you got that machine gun pointed down the road 17:02 and somebody comes down a road, a whole band of people 17:04 and there's a white flag in the front. 17:05 What are you supposed to do? Use that as a target practice? 17:07 No, that's a white flag. 17:09 What does that mean? They're probably surrendering. 17:11 They are unarmed. Let them come. 17:15 Same soldier, you got that machine gun 17:16 pointed down the road 17:18 and here comes a white flag again, 17:19 only it has a red crescent on it, 17:22 or it has a red cross on it. 17:24 What do you automatically know? 17:26 Medical personnel on the battlefield, 17:28 let them through. 17:30 The rules of engagement, 17:32 have you ever heard of the Geneva Convention? 17:35 You know, I've heard that all my life, 17:37 but just found out this week and studying that 17:39 it actually came into being in 1864, 17:42 the Geneva Convention. 17:43 You'll never, you never take a hostage out of a prisoner. 17:46 You never kill the prisoner. 17:47 If they're sick, it doesn't matter 17:48 which side they're on, you'll minister to their needs. 17:52 Rules of engagement, every war. 17:54 So here's the question. 17:56 Could it be that this militant praying 17:58 that Jesus has just modeled for us 18:00 is somehow crucial 18:02 to the rules of engagement in this cosmic, 18:04 in this conflict, galactic, this global conflict 18:09 we call the great controversy. 18:11 Could it be, militant praying is crucial? 18:15 Oh, there is nobody that 18:16 I know that has done more careful thinking 18:19 on this subject of the rules of engagement 18:22 than our friend John Peckham. 18:24 He's a theologian that teaches over here 18:25 in the theological seminary at Andrews University. 18:28 He has written the very well reasoned book, 18:33 Theodicy of Love. 18:36 I want to let him do a little teaching right now 18:39 when it comes to rules of engagement. 18:41 So with your permission, I'm going to take you to where, 18:44 where John wants to take us. 18:46 I want you to go to the Book of Job please? 18:48 Come on. You have your Bible here. 18:49 We're going to the Book of Job. 18:50 He sees the rules of engagement in a way I'd never seen before. 18:56 I want you to see Job 1, Job 1, everybody knows Job, Job 1. 19:01 There it is. Okay. 19:02 Now drop down, drop down to verse 6. 19:04 So this story is going to unfold 19:06 in front of our eyes. 19:08 And we're looking for rules of engagement. 19:09 What's going on here. 19:10 There is a war going on, 19:12 where we live in the midst of it, by the way, 19:13 where we are assembled right now, 19:15 the forces of both light 19:17 and darkness are arrayed right here. 19:19 You are surrounded with angels. 19:21 Some are evil, some are good. 19:24 And they're both playing for your attention right now. 19:27 Don't let him hear this. 19:29 Keep him distracted. Keep him distracted. 19:31 Don't let them find this out. 19:33 And the other angels of saints, don't listen to that. 19:36 You listen carefully. 19:37 You're going to be given a weapon here, use it well. 19:41 Okay? So this is Job 1:6, one day... 19:44 Let's put on the screen as well. 19:46 "One day the angels came," and by the way, 19:48 this is a mistranslation in the NIV. 19:49 God bless them. 19:50 They met well because they think that 19:52 there are only angels 19:53 and human beings in the universe besides God. 19:55 But the writer of Job, 19:56 which I believe was Moses himself 19:59 carefully uses the words. 20:01 Bene, which is plural for Ben and Ben means son. 20:04 So Benjamin is the son of my right hand. 20:07 Bene high Elohim, sons of Elohim. 20:12 That's Almighty God. 20:14 He apparently has children all over this universe. 20:17 Children, the sons of God came to present themselves. 20:22 The children present themselves 20:25 before the Lord and Satan 20:28 because there's no name of Satan back then, 20:30 we've turned it into a name, it's the Hebrew name. 20:32 The Hebrew word is Satan. 20:34 It means accuser. 20:35 Satan shows up. Why? 20:37 Because it is a heavenly council. 20:39 Now, I want you to watch this. 20:40 This is so amazing. He shows up too. 20:44 And guess what? He's allowed to show up. 20:47 Rules of engagement, let him in. 20:49 Let him in. 20:51 They're still working this thing out. 20:53 And He has a council to guide him. 20:54 God does. Okay, next verse. 21:00 And the Lord said to Satan, when he came walking in, "Yo! 21:06 You see my man Job down there?" 21:09 Isn't he something? 21:11 This makes you smile every time, doesn't it? 21:13 I've never had a friend like Job. 21:15 Well look it. 21:18 Oh, you haven't seen him. 21:19 Oh, no. 21:22 Satan says, "No, no, no, no, no. 21:23 I know I've been roaming across the earth. 21:24 I know I've been going back and forth. 21:27 You can be sure, I know who you're talking about." 21:29 God says, "Well then come on, 21:31 tell me what you think about him. 21:32 Have you considered my friend, my servant job. 21:35 There is no one on the planet like him. 21:38 He is blameless and upright. 21:39 A man who fears God and shuns evil. 21:43 Do you like him?" 21:46 Satan shoots back. 21:48 And this is the key verse. 21:49 The whole book is based on this. 21:50 And the answer to this question. 21:52 "Does job fear God for nothing?" 21:56 Satan replied. 21:59 Whoo, there's some rules of engagement 22:00 happening in here. 22:02 We'll catch him. 22:03 Does he fear God for nothing? Come on God, give me a break. 22:06 "Have you not put a hedge around him in his household 22:09 and everything he has? 22:10 You have blessed the work of his hands, 22:12 so that his flocks and his herds 22:13 are spread throughout the land." 22:14 He's a wealthy boy, 22:16 but now listen, "God, do me a favor, 22:18 stretch out Your hand 22:19 and You strike everything he has, 22:21 and He will surely curse you to your face." 22:24 Because the rules of engagement 22:26 so far have indicated that 22:27 when a man is faithful to God, 22:29 God will be faithful right back to him. 22:30 And that man oftentimes will prosper. 22:33 And God will not withhold that prosperity. 22:35 No, you stop that rule. I'm appealing. 22:37 I'm appealing for a change in the rule. 22:39 I'm asking you to touch him. 22:41 I'm asking you to work him over and notice how God responds. 22:45 But the Lord said to Satan, "Very well." 22:49 Okay. 22:50 All right. 22:52 Very well then, 22:53 remember this is council, everybody's listening in. 22:55 The intelligentsias from the universe 22:57 have gathered in the throne room. 23:00 Very well then, 23:02 everything he has is in your power, 23:03 but listen to me carefully, 23:06 on the man himself do not lay a finger." 23:08 Do you understand? I got it. 23:12 "Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord." 23:18 Amazing, the intelligentsia 23:22 of the universe are having a council. 23:25 There are obviously rules of engagement for the war 23:29 over planet earth and Satan has just said, 23:32 I want to modify one of those rules. 23:35 Peckham on the screen, John Peckham. 23:37 Here we go. 23:38 "In Job, the Satan," all right, that's Satan, 23:41 "the accuser possesses power to work evil in this world 23:46 as its temporary ruler." 23:51 Yeah, you're right. 23:52 Adam and Eve did acquiesce to your deception. 23:56 You want to claim rulership of this planet. 23:58 We will allow it on a temporary basis. 24:02 You will not rule this planet forever, 24:03 read my lips. 24:05 But He's been given the permission 24:09 to consider himself ruler. 24:12 But only, you only going to rule 24:15 within the limits that are openly negotiated 24:18 and modified before the heavenly council. 24:20 Everybody here witnessed to that? 24:21 We got it. 24:23 All right, you can go. 24:24 Don't you dare touch him. 24:26 You touch his stuff. 24:29 Lucifer's gone, disappeared. 24:35 Do you know what the greatest value 24:37 in the universe is right now? 24:39 The greatest value in the universe, 24:43 what do you think it is? 24:45 In the whole universe? 24:47 You might be inclined to say love. 24:49 And if you did I say it wrong. 24:52 Do you know what the greatest value 24:53 in the universe is right now? 24:55 Listen carefully. It's free choice. 25:00 It has to be free choice. 25:01 You can't have love without free choice. 25:03 Love in order to be genuine love 25:05 must not only give you the right to say yes. 25:06 It must also give you the right to say, to say no. 25:11 Free choice, that's a rule of engagement. 25:16 God cannot force you to obey Him. 25:18 Satan cannot force you to sin against God. 25:22 Neither one. 25:23 They've agreed. 25:24 They've agreed for this war. 25:27 Human free choice must never be tampered with, 25:31 did you get it? 25:33 Everybody say I around the council, 25:35 it's locked in. 25:36 You cannot tamper with free choice. 25:41 Whoa! 25:43 Rules of engagement. You suppose... 25:44 Do you suppose that would be a rule of engagement? 25:47 I think it is. I think we need to put it down. 25:49 They're only going to be two of these. 25:50 The militant one is coming up next, 25:52 but you have to start with this premise. 25:54 The universe is operated on free choice. 25:58 You are free to make any decision you want 26:01 and neither side can stop you from making that decision. 26:06 Be my guest. 26:08 Oh, so here are the four, 26:13 Job has freely chosen to live in relationship 26:18 with the everlasting God. 26:20 God is immensely proud of Job. 26:23 Man, if you see my boy Job. 26:26 And by the way, I need to tell you, 26:27 God is immensely proud of you. 26:29 He's watched the withering assaults that 26:32 you have endured 26:33 at the hands of the dark forces of Lucifer. 26:36 He has witnessed it all and you stood there. 26:39 You have held your ground 26:41 and God has leaned over to Gabriel, 26:42 and He said, Hey Gabriel, isn't she something? 26:46 She is something. 26:47 Look at her, standing 26:49 all the pressure of that moment. 26:52 And she's still holding her ground for me. 26:56 Keep an eye on that girl. 26:58 Keep an eye on that boy. 27:00 He's somebody, He's a keeper, watch him. 27:05 God is proud of Job. 27:06 He's proud of you, but it's free choice value. 27:11 The numero uno value in the universe is free choice. 27:16 And so when Satan walks into that council room, 27:23 hardy as he is, takes the empty seat for him. 27:29 He said, I want to tell you something, your honor. 27:34 You know why the man is loyal to you? 27:37 Because you have not given him free choice. 27:38 Oh, yes. 27:39 Free choice is the big value in your kingdom. 27:41 I understand that. 27:42 We both agreed to that, 27:44 but you are not letting him exercise free choice. 27:45 You know what? You're a sugar daddy. 27:46 That's why you are heaping your blessings upon him. 27:49 And he is just reveling on all those goodies. 27:52 Of course, he's chosen you. 27:54 You let me take those blessings away 27:56 and I'm going to show you. 27:57 I'm going to show you that 27:59 free choice is going to me cursing you 28:02 and turning his back on you. 28:04 You see what's going on in that council room. 28:07 It's really a heavenly council. 28:09 Job describes it as a council. 28:13 The rules of engagement. 28:15 Rule number one, free choice. 28:18 God says, okay, take him down. 28:21 Don't touch him. 28:23 Satan comes back a few. 28:24 Who knows how long later, my seat's still empty. 28:29 Yeah. 28:30 You said you're the ruler of the world, 28:32 temporarily we're giving you that seat. 28:35 How to go down there? 28:37 That Job man, isn't he some? 28:39 I told you, I just told you, he is not going to buckle. 28:44 Lucifer says, "Yeah, sure. 28:45 You can touch the stuff around a person. 28:47 But flesh for flesh, if you just touch his flesh, 28:49 I'm telling you it is over. 28:51 He will curse you that, no free choice." 28:54 God says, "All right." 28:55 He looks around the council. 28:57 "You okay with modifying the rules the second time?" 28:59 They nod, here's the deal. 29:02 "You can touch him, but you cannot kill him. 29:05 I have to have a witness speak of for me. 29:10 You keep him alive. Do you understand? 29:13 Go." 29:16 The rest of the book is what happens after that. 29:21 Whoa. 29:22 Wow. What's happening here? 29:24 Here's what's happening? 29:25 Put Peckham on the screen again. 29:27 These parameters or rules of engagement 29:29 are the product of negotiation 29:30 within the context of a courtroom dispute, 29:33 and might then be 29:34 thought of as covenantal rules of engagement, 29:37 which are binding on both parties." 29:41 Keep reading. 29:42 "These rules of engagement 29:43 are not unilaterally set by God." 29:46 Okay, children. 29:47 Here are the rules now, number one, number two. 29:49 Okay, David, I got daddy's rules. 29:50 No, they are not. 29:52 The intelligentsias 29:53 are setting the rules in collaboration 29:56 and in dialog and twice now Satan 29:58 has stepped in and said, 30:00 "I want the rules changed again. 30:01 It's not fair. 30:02 I want the rules changed again." 30:05 These rules of engagement are not unilaterally set by God 30:08 but are subject to negotiation before the heavenly council. 30:14 What's so fascinating for me 30:17 is how John has spotted 30:18 these rules of engagement in the New Testament as well. 30:22 Places I never would have thought to look, 30:24 but I'm going to run them by you so fast. 30:26 We've just been in Job, but take a look at these. 30:28 Okay. 30:29 So here are some rules of engagement 30:30 in the New Testament, 30:32 the devil's claim, while tempting Jesus. 30:34 And we did the, you know, the light saber last week, 30:36 we did the temptation of Jesus together. 30:38 "The devil's claim, while tempting Jesus, 30:40 'Hey, I will give you 30:41 all this world's domain and glory, 30:45 for it has been handed over to me 30:47 and I give it to whomever I wish.' 30:50 "You know, what's amazing to me on this? 30:55 Is that God lets it go. 30:57 Okay. Okay. 30:59 You're the ruler of the world for a while. 31:02 Okay. Here is another one. 31:05 The explicitly arranged nature of Jesus's temptation, 31:08 including the statement. 31:10 When the devil had finished every temptation, 31:13 he left Jesus until an opportune time." 31:15 Watch this. 31:16 When the devil comes to you, he cannot do this to you. 31:18 He cannot come up to you and say, 31:19 hey, you're going with me. 31:22 You're on top of the temple now with me. 31:24 Look down, I hope you're not, 31:25 I hope you're not getting dizzy with heights 31:27 because that's where I have you right now. 31:30 That's illegal, you can't touch me. 31:33 The devil cannot touch you. 31:35 He can't walk into your room, 31:37 pop the top off of that bottle of beer 31:41 and hand it to you and say, come on now drink. 31:44 Come on. 31:46 He can't do that. 31:48 He can tell you to take the bottle. 31:50 He can tell you to pop the lid, but he can't make you drink it. 31:55 He can't put it in your face. Come on. 31:57 He may use a friend of yours to do that. 32:00 No, no, he's got, he's got allies. 32:03 You've met him, but He cannot bodily touch you. 32:08 But somebody's revised these rules. 32:11 He's got Jesus on top of the temple. 32:13 Temptation number three, he has Jesus on a mountain 32:15 and he's done this wizardry, So he has an IMAX screen. 32:18 And he goes like, watch this Jesus, 32:21 the whole world now, 32:23 all the gutters, 32:28 all the slime brushed out of the picture. 32:33 It's just this gorgeous planet. 32:35 And by the way, this is what I, this is what I rule. 32:38 You bet on me. 32:39 You got it. 32:41 That's where you can do that. He can't do that to you. 32:44 Take you somewhere. No, no, no. 32:47 Somebody has altered the rules of engagement again 32:51 when they incarnated maker of all things is among us. 32:54 And now He's being bodily taken to places 32:57 and then told to respond. 32:59 God says, "Let him do." 33:00 "No, no, no, no," the angel said. 33:02 Let him do that. 33:03 Watch how Jesus will handle this. 33:05 You see the Father trusts. 33:08 He trusts Jesus. 33:10 I need you to know that Father trusts you too. 33:12 He trusts you, watch this. 33:15 Hey, watch the girl now, watch, watch. 33:17 He trusts you. 33:20 It's your call. 33:23 Wow. Keep going. 33:25 The demons 'response to encountering Jesus, 33:27 revealing time parameters: 33:28 'What business do we have with each other, Son of God? 33:31 Have you come to torment us before the time?" 33:33 Look at, we know how much time we have. 33:35 Why are you here now? 33:36 You want, you're trying to pick a fight now. 33:38 Somebody has set some parameters of time. 33:41 Wouldn't you like to know what those were? 33:43 Keep going. 33:44 The statement that the devil knows, 33:45 he has only a short time. 33:47 Revelation 12:12, how true he knows what you don't know. 33:50 He's out. He's running out. 33:53 The fact that Jesus 33:54 could do no miracle in Nazareth, 33:56 except that He laid His hands 33:57 on a few sick people and He healed them. 33:59 You know what the rule of engagement is? 34:01 Because Jesus could walk into any village He wants. 34:03 You come here. 34:04 Come here, be just like a Pentecostal healer. 34:07 Gabe, gotcha. 34:08 And next, gotcha. 34:10 He could have healed 34:11 the whole village, but He cannot. 34:12 The rule of engagement is 34:14 if they do not believe if there's no faith, 34:16 this miracle worker has no grounds for exercising 34:20 that power in our midst. 34:22 And by the way, the miracle worker 34:23 was not exercising His own power. 34:25 It was all borrowed. 34:26 The same power that you'll have 34:28 as you walk with God, same power. 34:32 Wow. Keep going. 34:34 Paul's explanation that Satan hindered him. 34:36 Satan, those are his words, Satan hindered me. 34:39 I would have come, but Satan hindered him 34:41 and his traveling companions 34:42 from going to the Thessalonians as desired. 34:45 What's going on here? There's one more. 34:46 And I want to go to this one, kind of zoom in, 34:48 and this is our last text, zoom in here. 34:50 "Jesus' statement to Peter, 34:52 'Satan has demanded permission to sift you." 34:56 And if you have a translation that says you, it's you all. 35:02 And isn't that amazing? 35:04 Satan has asked for permission. 35:07 You can't just walk in here and do that. 35:09 No, I want these. 35:11 These are the 12 closest friends 35:12 He has, partners on earth. 35:14 I want access to them. I want full blown access. 35:16 None of this little pushyfooting around 35:18 and keeping me at bay. 35:19 I need to get at them. 35:20 I'll take all 12 of them. I'll take one of them. 35:22 He's gone. I already have him. 35:24 Satan was... 35:25 Judas has already sold out to Satan. 35:26 I got one, I want the other 11. 35:28 I want the other 11. 35:30 Satan has asked for permission. 35:32 How did you know Jesus? 35:34 Holy Spirit must have told Him, you got a battle on your hands, 35:39 it's not just you they're fighting for, 35:41 they're going for everything you've touched, 35:43 including these 12. 35:45 They already have one Look out for the 11. 35:49 Whoa! 35:51 In fact, let's just take a look at it. 35:53 Come on, Luke 22, let's read that verse again. 35:56 Luke 22, Jesus speaking, "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked, 36:01 requested permission to sift all of you as wheat." 36:06 NIV is correct there. 36:07 All of you, He's going to put you 36:09 through the grinder. 36:11 Simon, Simon, Satan has asked permission. 36:16 And by the way, isn't this like Satan, 36:18 what did He do? 36:19 What did He do in the council room in Job 1? 36:22 He says, "Let's revise the rules." 36:23 What's he doing right near the end of Jesus' life? 36:25 He says, "Let's revise the rules. 36:26 I want access to all of these. Do you understand? 36:28 You're not playing fair if you don't give me access?" 36:31 And God keeps revising the rules. 36:33 He said, "Okay, no farther." 36:36 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat." 36:46 Peckham again. 36:47 "There will be times 36:49 when God must not be exercising all His power." 36:54 He has to pull it in. 36:55 Come on, pull it in. 36:57 We've got to equalize this little more, pull it in. 36:59 "And the enemy must be afforded some genuine freedom, 37:03 power and jurisdiction 37:05 that is not removed capriciously, 37:08 but is governed by some rules of engagement 37:11 known to both parties, 37:13 the details of which are not revealed to us." 37:16 Something's going on again. 37:18 Of course, he's going to kill the Messiah. 37:20 We understand that, 37:22 but he has a bigger net he wants to throw, 37:24 and he's asked permission, can I have access to these guys 37:29 without interference 37:30 from your juniors? 37:36 All right. 37:39 Ron Clouzet in his wonderful book, 37:41 just came out last month, brand new. 37:43 Title of the book, "In the Name of Jesus: 37:44 Power to Pray for People and Places." 37:47 I'm going through it in our house of prayer 37:49 grow group on Wednesday nights, 37:50 you can join it. 37:52 Yeah, you can join the study. 37:53 You'll need to join the grow group as well. 37:56 Clouzet wring here, "Simon, Simon, 38:00 Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat." 38:04 Now Clouzet is going to react to this. 38:05 Keep, there's one more verse. 38:06 "But I, Jesus says, 38:09 I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. 38:14 And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." 38:18 Somebody was praying for Peter that night. 38:21 Somebody was praying for Peter. 38:24 I wonder if He prayed for Judas, 38:25 but Judas went too far. 38:28 Couldn't get him back. 38:31 I have prayed for you. 38:37 Ron Clouzet, "Both Satan and Jesus knew Peter 38:40 better than He knew himself." 38:42 Is that true about you and me too? 38:44 They do, they know us better than we know ourselves. 38:46 "If he could get Peter, 38:48 a leading disciple of Jesus to apostatize, 38:52 Satan could boast that God's promises 38:55 and government were just as bad as I've been telling you 38:57 since the beginning of this war." 38:59 Haven't I told you, look at, 39:00 you got this guy that's the closest 39:02 he's ever had anybody to him, 39:04 and look at what has turned out to him. 39:06 I'm telling you, I've been right all along, 39:08 you liar, you liar, 39:14 but that's Satan for you. 39:16 No other disciple that we know of prayed for Peter that night. 39:19 You think any of the others were praying for Peter? 39:21 Nope. 39:22 The intercessor that made an efforts that night, 39:25 that day was guess who? 39:28 It's Jesus. 39:31 Oh man, we should just love it if Jesus pray for you? 39:36 I mean, if Jesus would put my name on His lips 39:39 and I would hear that I would melt 39:42 and I would give my life to be true to that prayer. 39:45 I would give my life to be true to that prayer. 39:49 Guess what? 39:51 He prays for you every day. 39:54 Prove it. Okay. 39:56 I will. 39:57 Hebrew 7:25. 39:59 Write this down and never forget it. 40:00 Hebrews 7:25. How does it read? 40:02 "Therefore Jesus is able to save completely 40:05 those who come to God through Him 40:07 because he," what's the next word? 40:10 What's the next word? 40:12 Always. How long is always? 40:15 Is it the 24 or the 7? 40:18 It's 24/7, isn't it? 40:20 He will always live to intercede for you and me. 40:25 "Simon, Simon, Satan, Satan has wanted you, 40:30 but the maker of all things wants you more." 40:33 And I have loved you, He hates you. 40:36 I have loved you and I'm going to show it 40:38 to you by dying 40:39 if you were the only one to die for on this planet. 40:42 I have loved you more than he. 40:48 Wow. 40:50 Therefore is able to save to the uttermost. 40:54 Jesus always lives to make intercession for you and me. 40:59 Simon, Simon, Shauna, Shauna, 41:02 Alex, Alex, Dwight, Dwight, 41:06 Satan has asked for you, but I want you more. 41:11 And I love you. 41:14 And if you give Me permission, I'll save you. 41:20 No, yes. 41:23 Wow. 41:25 And this, my friends, 41:26 is the provocative second rule of engagement. 41:30 They're just two of these, free choice is one, 41:31 this is number two. 41:34 And here's how it works. 41:35 I will show you before I put it up on the screen. 41:37 Here's how it works. 41:39 When God places a man on your mind, 41:41 when God places a woman on your mind, 41:43 when God places a teen on your mind, 41:44 when God places a child by name on your mind, 41:47 do you know what God is doing? 41:48 He's saying, I need some help right now. 41:51 I need some help right now. 41:52 I need you to pray for this person. 41:56 I need you to intercede, please. 42:00 The person doesn't know that I'm doing this. 42:04 The person has no idea that you would respond to this. 42:07 The person is under attack by the enemy right now, 42:11 this person is off limits to me right now, 42:13 according to the rules of engagement. 42:15 But I need you to pray for her, pray for him. 42:20 And don't stop praying until I tell you. 42:24 That's what's going on. 42:26 Simon, Simon, I have prayed for you by name 42:32 when you are converted. 42:36 Wow, because you see God who knows, 42:42 he's not being prayed for by her, 42:44 he's not being prayed for by him. 42:46 God, if God were to show up right that yo, excuse me. 42:51 What brings You to this corner of the neighborhood? 42:53 Did anybody? 42:54 I don't hear anybody even calling for You. 42:55 Isn't that funny? 42:57 Nobody here is even thinking about You, 42:58 nobody in this room right now, You do not belong here. 43:01 Do you understand? 43:02 You remember the great values of free choice. 43:05 This is Your value and we are free to inform You. 43:08 You are not wanted in this place. 43:10 God knows He is not wanted. 43:12 God knows He is not chosen by anybody in that room. 43:14 But do you know what God has? 43:16 He has one more rule of engagement 43:18 and He throws it down on the table. 43:19 I know she's not praying for Me and to Me. 43:23 I know he's not praying for Me or to Me, but guess what? 43:28 I have a personal friend 43:30 who is praying for her right now. 43:33 That friend is begging me to do something in her life. 43:39 And to honor my friend, 43:43 Simon, Simon, I have prayed for you. 43:46 To honor my friend I am here. 43:51 What was that word again? 43:53 Did you use aidos with me? 43:54 I met that to be aidos for you, goodbye. 43:59 He's gone. 44:01 You know why? 44:02 Second rule of engagement, scribble this down. 44:06 First let me show you a line 44:08 from the great apocalyptic classic 44:10 that defines this war that we're in. 44:12 I'm gonna show you the line. 44:13 Then I'm gonna show you the rule. 44:14 Here's, here is the great controversy line, 44:17 just one sentence. 44:18 Write this number down 5:25, 5:25, 5:25. 44:21 It is a part of God's plan to grant us an answer 44:24 to the prayer of faith, 44:26 that which He would not bestow did we not ask. 44:30 There are some prayers 44:32 that will never be answered until they are prayed. 44:38 You've been carrying that prayer 44:40 in your heart for a long time. 44:41 Well, you know, I got to pray for her. 44:42 I'll get back to it. 44:44 I got to pray for him. Man, and I'll get back to it. 44:45 There are some prayers they will never be answered 44:47 unless the prayer is prayed 44:51 and that prayer releases 44:53 God to do what He could not do 44:56 had He not been asked. 45:00 You know what it's called? 45:02 Proxy prayer. 45:03 Never forget it. 45:05 Proxy prayer. 45:06 When God comes to you and He says, 45:08 I want you to pray for her. 45:09 I want you to pray for him. I want you to pray. 45:12 He's asking you to step in as a proxy. 45:14 You say, Dwight, what's a proxy? 45:15 Or they use this in law all the time 45:16 in the courtrooms proxy this, 45:18 proxy that, proxy is a substitute. 45:19 I'm stepping in on behalf of this individual. 45:22 And I will pray for her. I will pray for him. 45:25 And I will pray until I see that 45:28 God has intervened and save this person. 45:33 My, my, my, my, my, are you serious? 45:37 Simon, Simon, 45:42 I pray for you. 45:45 Wow. He's serious. 45:52 You know what? 45:54 You know the deal with our praying, don't you? 45:57 Here's how we pray, you and me. 45:59 We cry like this little baby to God. 46:01 God, I need more stuff. 46:02 I just need stuff. 46:04 God, give me this, give me this. 46:05 God, give me this, give me that. 46:07 God, do this for me. God, save me here. 46:08 Get me through this exam. 46:09 Get me through life. 46:11 God, just keep doing stuff for me. 46:13 Our prayers are the most self-centered 46:15 monologues on the planet. 46:17 Why? 46:19 Because that's all I'm thinking about. 46:20 This militant weapon represented 46:22 by the line on the screen. 46:24 Proxy prayer is declaring that 46:27 when I turn my attention off of me 46:29 and I focus in on you, 46:31 I release supernatural nuclear power intervention 46:37 because that Almighty can say, Dwight's praying. 46:40 You got a problem with this. 46:41 He's praying, you know, he's praying 46:45 and God steps in. 46:49 Proxy praying that's what it is. 46:52 George Mueller, Ron Clouzet tells this story that 46:55 I learned with George Mueller, 46:58 wild and partying young man in his early twenties, 47:01 somehow in all that partying, He met Jesus, unbelievable. 47:06 He met Jesus and He gave his heart to Jesus. 47:08 He became a friend of eternal. 47:12 And he was so burdened 47:14 for the orphans, the street kids. 47:16 They were all over England at the time. 47:17 And he said, "God, I got to raise up 47:19 these orphanages." 47:21 And so he said, "But here's the deal. 47:22 I'm not going to ever, ever, 47:23 ever ask for a penny, a shilling. 47:26 I'm not going to ask for it. 47:27 I'm going to depend on you moving other people 47:31 to give and I'll receive that way." 47:34 He spent his life never asking once publicly or privately. 47:38 Give me something, 47:40 give me little help for my ministry. 47:41 Never once. 47:43 By the end of his life, 47:45 he raised the equivalent of $150 million 47:48 without ever asking for a penny. 47:50 150 million, this university 47:53 would love to have that. 47:58 He never asked for a penny. 47:59 He prayed for it. 48:02 But when He was 39, 48:03 he remembered five of his buddies 48:04 during those wild partying days, 48:06 five buddies. 48:07 And he knows them by name. 48:09 And He says, "God, 48:10 I'm going to begin praying for these boys. 48:11 They are my friends. 48:13 I'm going to pray that you save them." 48:15 And he began at the age of 39 48:17 praying every single day for these five. 48:20 And after 18 months, one of the boys got saved. 48:23 He came to Jesus. Hallelujah. 48:25 Now he's got four to pray for. 48:27 And he prays with his heart every single day 48:31 for these four by name five years more. 48:35 And another one of his friends becomes a Christian. 48:37 Now he has only three buddies to be praying for. 48:40 And now he's praying with all of his heart 48:42 and somebody once asked him, 48:43 you know, when you're praying, what are you thinking? 48:46 And he said, and I'm quoting him now. 48:47 "I hope in God. 48:49 And I look for the answer." 48:50 That's what I'm doing. 48:51 I'm just hoping in God and looking for the answer. 48:54 And after five years 49:01 and another six that's 11, 49:06 number three gets saved. 49:09 Now decades go by, hold on, decades go by, 49:12 Mueller will live to be 93 years of age. 49:14 For 54 years he's been praying from 39 to 93. 49:17 He's been praying for these two friends. 49:19 And just before Mueller dies, 49:23 the fourth one comes to Jesus. 49:26 Hallelujah. 49:27 And a few years after his death, 49:29 the fifth one came. 49:31 Isn't that something? 49:32 Oh, wait, what was that? What was that line? 49:33 What was that line from Great Controversy. 49:35 It is a part of God's plan to grant us, 49:36 in answer to the prayer of faith, 49:38 that which He would not bestow did we not thus ask. 49:41 Do you have some people that 49:43 need to go on your permanent list, 49:47 an intercession before the Almighty? 49:50 And by the way, when you pray for 49:52 whoever it is you're praying for, guess what? 49:54 Who else is praying? 49:56 Jesus is praying for her. 49:57 Isn't Jesus praying for her too? 49:59 So that's you and Jesus. 50:00 That is a majority in this universe. 50:02 You and Jesus always in majority. 50:05 You never pray alone. 50:07 Jesus is already at it. 50:10 He just needs a human to say, I give you permission. 50:14 Please save her. Wow. 50:19 Here is a part of God's plan to grant us an answer 50:21 to the prayer of faith 50:23 that which He would not bestow did we not thus ask. 50:26 Proxy, praying. 50:28 That's your weapon that you go home with today. 50:31 Put a little list together. 50:33 You don't have to have 100 people on it. 50:36 You don't have to have 30 on it. 50:39 Start out like Mueller. 50:41 Maybe five is too much for you. 50:43 You got four lost people, you know, three? 50:47 Anybody have two? 50:49 Just put the names of some people 50:50 that you long to see Jesus intervene in 50:52 and know that the rules of engagement 50:54 have been holding Him back because she doesn't want it, 50:55 he is not asking for, 50:57 but I am begging you Jesus, save him now. 51:01 Just pray that way with two on your list 51:05 and put God to the test. 51:07 See if He will not open the windows of heaven 51:09 and pour out on that friend of yours one day, 51:12 all the pent up salvation power 51:16 that has been waiting to save that boy, 51:18 save that girl. 51:21 Does this make sense to you? 51:24 Is this guy confusing to you? 51:26 Well, I don't know what to do now? 51:29 Now you leave. 51:30 You leave with what the maker of all things demonstrated that 51:34 He mastered and it is Simon, Simon, 51:37 I am praying for you. 51:40 Private proxy praying. 51:42 Let's go to the connect card here. 51:44 pm church.org/connect. 51:46 Here we go. 51:47 I want to pray like Jesus, Lord. 51:49 I just want to pray like You. 51:50 I want prayer to be my natural response to life. 51:52 Box two. 51:53 I am deeply grateful to learn Jesus, 51:55 Hebrews 7:25, 51:56 that you pray for me day and night. 51:58 I put a check mark there. 51:59 Box number three, 52:01 I want to prepare a select list of people. 52:02 I will join Jesus in praying for 52:04 until God answers my prayers. 52:07 Truth and advertising. 52:10 The devil knows about your list. 52:15 So he'll set up your little worship moment 52:17 alone with Jesus to somehow just 52:23 a little fog, whatever it is, I forgot. 52:26 Oh man, I forgot today. 52:27 What was I thinking? 52:29 Oh, by the way, when you remember, 52:31 you don't have to do 52:32 when you're having worship in the morning, 52:33 you can do it anytime during the day. 52:35 If you only got two names that shouldn't be too tough. 52:39 But I'm telling you 52:40 it's the discipline of coming back. 52:42 George Mueller, I'm in awe, 52:45 54 years of coming back to a list 52:48 that gets smaller and smaller. 52:52 But He learned that his Father was dependable. 52:56 And the Father who gave all the money 52:58 $150 million worth to Him is the Father 53:01 that would be at work at these five. 53:04 And he never quit. 53:06 Don't you ever quit? 53:07 There's somebody that needs you to be praying for her today. 53:11 Need you to be praying for him today. 53:13 And it may be that right now a name popped into your mind. 53:16 That's the Holy Spirit right there. 53:18 Just take that name. 53:20 The moment you said there's somebody, 53:22 Holy Spirit, I should be praying for. 53:23 Boom, it just popped into your mind. 53:26 What do you need him? 53:27 To write it on a piece of paper and handed it to you? 53:29 Hand it. 53:30 No, you got the name already. 53:33 Get another two or three and hang on to this list 53:36 until Jesus comes or your prayers are answered 53:38 whichever comes first. 53:40 Does that make sense? 53:42 Oh, Father, rules of engagement, 53:44 it makes all the sense in the world now to us. 53:47 Thanks to Job and Jesus. 53:51 Free choice, 53:52 we wouldn't have it any other way. 53:53 No, we wouldn't. 53:56 But proxy praying, that's what Jesus mastered. 53:59 And the master of all things loves and wants me. 54:01 And I want to master 54:03 what the master of all things has mastered. 54:06 Let me be, 54:07 let it be a proxy prayer I pray. 54:11 For you I am praying. 54:13 Oh, what a friend we have in Jesus. 54:15 For you, I am praying, my friend. 54:17 I am praying for you. 54:19 I am praying for you. 54:22 Amen. 54:32 What a friend 54:35 We have in Jesus 54:40 All our sins and griefs to bear 54:48 What a privilege 54:51 To carry 54:55 Everything to God in prayer 55:03 O what peace we often forfeit 55:10 O what needless pain we bear 55:18 All because 55:20 We do not carry 55:25 Everything to God in prayer 55:31 I like you guys to stand. 55:33 Blessed Savior 55:36 Thou hast promised 55:40 Thou wilt all our burdens bear 55:48 May we ever 55:51 Lord be bringing 55:55 All to Thee in earnest prayer 56:02 Soon in glory bright unclouded 56:09 There will be 56:12 No need for prayer 56:17 Rapture praise and endless worship 56:23 Will be our sweet portion there 56:34 For you, I am praying 56:38 For you, I am praying 56:42 For you, I am praying 56:46 I'm praying for you 56:51 For you, I am praying 56:55 For you, I am praying 57:00 For you, I am praying 57:05 I'm praying for you 57:15 I want to take an extra moment to thank you for joining us 57:17 in worship today. 57:19 It's by the continuous support from viewers like you 57:21 that we're able to bring you this program. 57:23 Today, I want to invite you though 57:24 to share with us 57:25 how this ministry has blessed you. 57:27 I get inspiring notes, emails from viewers, 57:29 literally all over the world telling me, look, Dwight, 57:31 God has been blessing me this way. 57:33 He's been doing this. 57:34 I would love to hear from you as well. 57:36 Just visit our website, you know it, 57:38 newperceptions.tv 57:40 and click on the contact link at the top of the page. 57:42 Send me a note. 57:43 Let me know what God has been doing 57:45 right now in your life. 57:47 Once again, thank you for being with us today. 57:50 I hope you join us right here next time. 57:52 And until then, may the God of grace journey 57:54 with you every step of the way. |
