00:19 Hi, and welcome again to praise, I am Kelly Mowrer.
00:23 I live in Allentown, Pennsylvania 00:25 and recently I read a really neat story 00:28 that came out of this area during a revolutionary war. 00:32 In the town of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, 00:34 there lived a simple, humble minister 00:37 by the name of Peter Miller. 00:40 Peter had a church there, 00:42 and there was also a neighbor there who gave Peter 00:45 every bit of trouble he possibly could. 00:47 He harassed him, harangued him, 00:49 gave him no end of heartache. 00:52 This neighbor became involved in treason 00:55 and was eventually arrested and sentenced to be hanged. 00:59 Immediately, Pastor Miller started out 01:02 to walk 70 miles on foot to Philadelphia, 01:07 to plead for his life. 01:09 General Washington met with Pastor Miller, 01:13 heard his plea, and said "I am sorry, 01:15 I cannot grant your pardon for your friend." 01:19 "My friend?" said the Pastor. 01:21 "This man is the worst enemy I have." 01:24 Washington was astonished. 01:25 He said, "Your worst enemy? 01:27 You walked 70 miles to plead 01:29 for the life of your worst enemy? 01:32 That puts the matter 01:33 in a completely different light, 01:35 and I will grant his pardon." 01:37 When I read that story, I thought about how-- 01:40 when we were the worst enemies of God. 01:42 He came far more distance 01:45 than 70 miles to save our lives. 01:48 Listen as E.T. plays "I heard an old, old story. 01:52 Our savior came from glory. 01:54 How He gave His life on Calvary, 01:56 to save a wretch like me. 01:58 I heard about His groaning, 02:00 His precious blood's atoning. 02:03 And I repented of my sin, and won the victory. 02:06 A victory in Jesus, my savior forever. 02:10 He sought me and He bought me, 02:13 with His redeeming blood. 02:15 He loved me before I knew Him. 02:18 And all my love is due Him. 02:20 He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood." 05:46 The Bible tells us 05:47 that while we were yet sinners, 05:49 Christ died for us. 05:51 And the victory that we have is only through Jesus. 05:55 There's a story told about a dark and stormy night. 05:59 The lady was crossing Lake Michigan on a boat, 06:02 and the lightning and the thunder 06:03 and the rain made her extremely nervous. 06:06 When the lightning would flash, 06:07 she could see the jagged rocks, 06:09 jutting out above the surface of the lake and, 06:12 fearfully, she asked the captain, 06:14 "Do you know where all the rocks 06:15 are here out in this lake?" 06:17 "No," the captain replied, 06:20 "I don't know where all the rocks are, 06:22 but I do know where it's safe." 06:34 There's a lighthouse on the hillside 06:39 That overlooks life's sea 06:44 When I'm tossed, it sends out a light 06:50 That I might see 06:55 And the light that shines in darkness now 07:00 Will safely lead me on 07:05 If it wasn't for the lighthouse 07:10 My ship would be no more 07:17 And I thank God for the lighthouse 07:24 I owe my life to Him 07:28 For Jesus is the lighthouse 07:34 And from the rocks of sin 07:38 He has shone a light around me 07:45 That I could clearly see 07:50 If it wasn't for the lighthouse 07:56 Where would this ship be? 08:04 Now everybody that lives around us 08:09 They say, tear that old lighthouse down 08:15 Don't you know the big ships don't sail this way anymore 08:21 There's no use of it standing round 08:26 Then my mind goes back to that stormy night 08:32 When just in time, I saw the light 08:38 It's the light from that old lighthouse 08:43 That stands up there on the hill. 08:47 And I thank God for the lighthouse 08:54 I owe my life to Him 08:59 For Jesus is the lighthouse 09:05 And from the rocks of sin 09:10 He has shone a light around me 09:16 That I could clearly see 09:21 If it wasn't for the lighthouse 09:28 Where would this ship be? 09:32 If it wasn't for the lighthouse 09:38 Tell me, where would this ship be? 10:19 Time measured out my days 10:26 Life carried me along 10:33 In my soul I yearned to follow God 10:41 But knew I'd never be so strong 10:47 I looked hard at this world 10:52 To learn how heaven could be gained 11:00 Just to end where I began 11:05 Where human effort was all in vain 11:16 Were it not for grace 11:23 I can tell you where I'd be 11:30 Wandering down some pointless road to nowhere 11:38 With my salvation up to me 11:44 And I know how that would go 11:51 The battles I would face 11:58 Forever running but losing the race 12:05 Were it not for grace. 12:15 So here is all my praise 12:21 Expressed with all my heart 12:29 Offered to the friend who took my place 12:36 And ran a course I could not start 12:42 And when He saw in full 12:47 Just how much His love would cost 12:55 He still went that final mile between me and heaven 13:03 So I would not be lost 13:11 Were it not for grace 13:20 I can tell you where I'd be 13:27 Wandering down some pointless road to nowhere 13:34 With my salvation up to me 13:40 And I know how that would go 13:47 The battles I would face 13:54 Forever running but losing the race 14:02 Were it not for God's grace 14:09 Forever running but losing the race 14:18 Were it not for grace. 14:42 The Bible tells us that satan is like a roaring lion, 14:45 seeking whom he may devour. 14:47 Satan doesn't want us feeling the victory of Jesus. 14:51 He doesn't want us knowing safety and the love of God. 14:55 He wants to discourage us and bring us down. 14:58 And when he tries to discourage each of us 15:00 with thoughts that maybe our sins are just too big 15:04 for God's grace to fully cover, 15:06 we need to remember what Paul wrote to Timothy. 15:08 Paul wrote, this is a faithful saying 15:12 and worthy of all acceptation that Christ Jesus 15:17 came into the world to save sinners, 15:20 of whom I am chief. 15:22 And remember, that John specifically tells us, 15:26 that God doesn't forgive us because somehow we deserve it. 15:30 John writes, your sins are forgiven you, 15:33 for His name's sake. 15:37 There to my heart was the blood applied 15:45 Glory to His name 15:53 Down at the cross where my Savior died 15:57 Down where for cleansing from sin I cried 16:01 There to my heart was the blood applied 16:05 Glory to His name 16:10 Glory to His name 16:14 Glory to His name 16:18 There to my heart was the blood applied 16:22 Glory to His name 16:27 I am so wondrously saved from sin 16:31 Jesus so sweetly abides within 16:35 There at the cross where He took me in 16:39 Glory to His name 16:45 Glory to His name 16:49 Glory to His name 16:53 There to my heart was the blood applied 16:57 Glory to His name 17:01 To His glory, to His glory 17:05 Glory to His name 17:11 Come to this fountain so rich and sweet 17:19 Cast thy poor soul at the Savior's feet 17:26 Plunge in today and be made complete 17:34 Glory to His name, His name 17:42 Glory to His name 17:46 Glory to His name 17:51 There to my heart was the blood applied 17:55 Glory to His name 17:59 Glory to His name 18:06 Glory to His name 18:17 Wasn't that awesome? 18:18 There to my heart, was the blood applied, 18:21 glory to His name. 18:24 There was a once a little girl who was blind. 18:27 She was 8 years old. 18:28 And she sat down and she wrote her first poem. 18:31 Oh, what a happy soul am I, although I cannot see. 18:36 I am resolved that in this world, 18:38 contented I will be. 18:41 That little girl went on to write 18:43 over 8,000 hymns during her lifetime. 18:46 Her name was Fanny Crosby. 18:49 She once said, "I seem to have been led 18:51 little by little toward my work. 18:53 And I believe that the same fact will appear 18:56 in the life of anyone who will cultivate 18:58 such powers as God has given him. 19:02 And then go on bravely, quietly, but persistently, 19:07 doing such work as comes to His hands." 19:11 Fanny was friends with three United States Presidents, 19:15 President Van Buren, President Polk 19:18 and most especially, President Grover Cleveland. 19:22 Long before he became president, 19:24 Grover Cleveland was secretary to the institution 19:27 of the blind, where Fanny taught. 19:30 And he copied out many of her poems for her. 19:33 And from the White House, years later, 19:36 President Cleveland wrote to Fanny, 19:39 "It is more than 50 years ago 19:41 that our acquaintance and friendship began. 19:44 And ever since that time, I have watched 19:47 your continuous and disinterested labor 19:50 in uplifting humanity and pointing out the way 19:53 to an appreciation of God's goodness and mercy." 19:58 Listen now as Dave and Marlene Colburn 20:01 play the very first hymn of Fanny Crosby 20:04 to gain worldwide favor, 20:07 "Pass me not, O gentle savior, 20:10 hear my humble cry. 20:12 While on others thou are calling, 20:15 do not pass me by. 20:17 Let me at your throne of mercy, 20:20 find a sweet relief. 20:23 Kneeling there in deep contrition, 20:25 help my unbelief." 24:13 He chose me before the world was known 24:19 He chose me to be His very own 24:27 He made me then let me choose my way 24:34 I chose to move away 24:40 He loved me when hope had taken wing 24:45 He loved me when I lost everything 24:53 He bought me 24:55 Redemption's work was done 25:00 Through Jesus Christ, His Son 25:08 Who shall separate me 25:13 from the love of God 25:19 Shall dreams of tomorrow 25:25 pain, or sorrow 25:31 Can the need of food or earthly possessions 25:38 A threat of war, or man's oppression 25:45 In all these things 25:51 Victory is our reward 25:57 Victory is our reward 26:03 through Jesus Christ, our Lord 26:13 Of this I am sure 26:18 That neither death, nor life 26:22 Nor angels, nor principalities 26:28 Nor powers, nor things present 26:34 Nor things to come 26:40 Not height, nor depth 26:46 Nor any creature 26:49 Shall separate me from the love of God 27:00 Of this I am sure 27:05 That neither death, nor life 27:09 Nor angels, nor principalities 27:16 Nor powers, nor things present 27:21 Nor things to come 27:28 Not height, nor depth 27:33 Nor any creature 27:36 Shall separate me from the love of God 27:47 Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. |
