00:20 Hello I'm Kelly Mowrer, and welcome to Praise.
00:23 I love the beauty of David song in Psalm 103, 00:27 where he writes, "Bless the Lord O my soul, 00:30 and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 00:33 Bless the Lord O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. 00:38 You know, it's pretty amazing and pretty sad, 00:41 how easily I and we all forget the benefits 00:45 and the blessings of God. 00:47 We probably, occasionally remember 00:49 and take note of the extraordinary blessings 00:52 but I know that far too often 00:53 I'm going through my days without conscious awareness 00:56 and thankfulness to God for all the blessings 00:59 that are following me minute by minute. 01:02 And unless we intentionally mark 01:03 and remember His blessings. 01:05 If we make our stones of remembrance, 01:07 how much it affects our walk with God 01:09 when we don't do that. 01:10 First, He can cause us to doubt. 01:13 We forget how He's led us in the past 01:15 and that leaves us feeling unsure 01:17 that He's with us in our present circumstances, 01:20 also it can affect our prayers. 01:22 Paul tells us to have no anxiety about anything, 01:25 but with prayer and thanksgiving, 01:27 to make our requests knowing the God. 01:30 But how can we thank Him for His blessings 01:32 if we're not bothering 01:33 to even notice and remember them. 01:36 Today we're going to think especially 01:38 on the blessings of God, 01:39 and how we can come to Him as our friend, 01:43 talking with Him in prayer, 01:45 as we bring Him our request 01:47 with prayer and thanksgiving. 01:49 Remembering how He's led us 01:51 and cared for us in the past. 01:53 Here is Denise Barclay, 01:55 someone I'm always blessed to hear 01:57 and she's singing a very favorite song of mine, 01:59 He'll do it again 02:04 You may be down and feel the God 02:10 Has somehow forgotten 02:15 That you are faced with circumstances 02:20 You can't get through 02:26 Right now it seems that there's no way out 02:31 And you're going under 02:36 But God's proven time and time again 02:41 He'll take care of you 02:46 And He'll do it again 02:52 He'll do it again 02:57 If you just take a look 03:00 At where you are now 03:03 And where you've been 03:06 Hasn't He always come through for you 03:13 He's the same now as then 03:18 Oh, You may not know how 03:21 You may not know when 03:23 But He'll do it again 03:29 God knows the pain that you're going through 03:34 And He knows how you're hurting 03:40 You see he knows how your heart 03:45 been broken in two 03:50 Oh but He's the God of the sun, 03:53 stars and the moon 03:56 And He is your Father 04:00 If He can calm the storm 04:04 He'll find the way to take care of you 04:11 And He'll do it again 04:16 He'll do it again 04:22 If you just take a look 04:25 At where you are now 04:28 And where you've been 04:31 Hasn't He always come through for you 04:38 He's the same God now that He was then 04:41 Oh, yes He is 04:44 You may not know how 04:46 You may not know when 04:48 But He'll do it again 04:53 Oh, he'll do it again 04:59 He'll do it again 05:04 If you just take a look 05:07 At where you are now 05:10 And where you've been 05:13 Hasn't He always come through for you 05:20 He's the same God now that He was then 05:23 Oh, yes He is 05:25 You may not know how 05:28 You may not know when 05:31 But He'll do it again 05:35 Yes you may not know how 05:41 Or you may not know when 05:47 You may not know how 05:50 You may not know when 05:53 But He'll do it again 06:19 How long has it been 06:25 since you talked with the Lord 06:30 And told him your heart's hidden secrets 06:42 How long since you prayed? 06:48 How long since you stayed on your knees 06:57 till the light shone through 07:06 How long has it been 07:12 since your mind felt at ease? 07:17 How long since your heart knew no burden? 07:28 Can you call him your friend 07:34 How long has it been since you knew 07:44 that he cares for you? 07:53 How long has it been 07:59 since you knelt by your bed 08:03 And prayed to the Lord up in heaven 08:15 How long since you knew 08:20 that He would answer you 08:26 And He would keep you 08:31 the long night through 08:38 Tell me how long has it been 08:45 since you woke with the dawn 08:49 And felt like the day is worth of living 09:01 Can you call him your friend 09:07 How long has it been 09:14 since you knew that he cares, 09:18 since you knew that Jesus cares for you 09:25 Since you knew that he cares, 09:30 since you knew that Jesus cares 09:34 Oh, yes He does since you knew, since you knew, 09:40 Since you knew, oh 09:49 since you knew 09:55 that Jesus cares for you 10:06 for you 10:16 As I travel around the country 10:17 speaking and giving concerts, 10:19 I love to share stories and historical settings, 10:23 the lessons from the past 10:24 that can help us in the present. 10:26 And I find it songs become so much more meaningful to me 10:29 when I know what happened in the life of the writer 10:32 that led to the song being written. 10:35 I've been asked several times if I know of hymns 10:37 that were written out of a joyous experience, 10:40 so many of them seem to be written 10:42 in the dark nights of the soul 10:44 and they are a wonderful comforting testimony. 10:47 But there are songs of joyful praise too. 10:50 And one of them comes from a lady 10:51 who clearly knew God as her personal friend. 10:54 Over 100 years ago, 10:56 a 37 year old housewife named Andy Hox 10:59 living happy and fulfilled as a wife 11:02 and a mother was working around her house one day 11:04 when she was suddenly overcome 11:05 with a sense of nearness of God to her. 11:09 And she felt like she didn't want to ever go 11:11 another moment without this 11:12 awesome awareness of God as her friend. 11:15 She was so moved with the love and joy 11:17 of that moment that she sat down 11:19 and wrote these words, I need the very hour, 11:22 most gracious Lord. 11:24 No Tender voice like Thine can peace afford. 11:28 She gave the words to her pastor Robert Lowry 11:31 who added the chorus and the tune 11:34 and the song was first published in 1872. 11:37 Many years later Andy lost her beloved husband 11:40 and suddenly she had a very new 11:43 and real insight into the gift 11:44 that God had given her in that song she wrote 11:47 I did not understand it first 11:49 why this hymn had touched 11:51 the great throbbing heart of humanity. 11:53 It was not until long after 11:56 when the shadow of great loss felt over my way 11:59 that I understood something of the comforting 12:01 power in the words which I have been 12:03 permitted to give out to others, 12:05 in my hour of sweet sovereignty and peace. 12:09 Listen as my friend E.T. Everett plays 12:11 "I need thee every hour." 16:17 It's only me Lord 16:24 It's only me 16:28 Seems like I call you everyday 16:34 And You always know what I will say 16:42 But You take the time to help me see 16:46 The kind of person I should be 16:49 You always listen 16:55 Here I stand so small and frail 17:02 So afraid that I might fail 17:07 But You fill my heart with happiness 17:10 You care for me with tenderness 17:13 It's only me Lord 17:18 It's only me 17:26 Lord I love You 17:29 Take my heart 17:33 Help me live right from the start 17:38 Thanks for bearing all my pain 17:44 And making bright my day again 17:49 It's only me Lord 17:55 It's only me 18:01 It's only me Lord 18:07 It's only me 18:26 Joseph Scriven was born in Ireland in 1819. 18:29 He graduated from Trinity College, 18:31 and was engaged to be married. 18:33 But on the night before his wedding his fiancé drowned. 18:37 And Joseph was devastated and actually left Ireland, 18:40 moved to Canada where he became a teacher. 18:43 Several years passed and he met another young woman 18:45 named Eliza and after sometime they became engaged. 18:49 But shortly before their wedding Eliza also died. 18:53 After the death of his second fiancé 18:55 Joseph joined the Plymouth Brethren and spent his life 18:59 helping the aged members of the community 19:01 and during this time Joseph's mother 19:03 who was still living back in Ireland wrote him a letter 19:06 about how discouraged and depressed she felt. 19:10 Joseph responded back to her and to try to comfort her 19:14 and encourage her, he wrote a poem in that letter, 19:18 that said, what a friend we have in Jesus 19:21 all our sins and grief to bear, 19:24 what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer. 19:28 Oh, what peace we often forfeit 19:30 and owe what needless pain we bear, all because 19:35 we do not carry everything to God in prayer. 19:43 What a friend we have in Jesus 19:53 All our sins and griefs to bear 20:02 What a privilege to carry 20:11 Everything to God in prayer 20:21 O what peace we often forfeit 20:29 And O what needless pains we bear 20:40 It's all because we do not carry 20:50 Everything to God in prayer 21:05 Are we weak and heavy-laden 21:14 Are we cumbered with a load of care 21:24 Precious Savior still my refuge 21:34 Take it to the Lord in prayer 21:44 Do thy friends despise forsake thee 21:52 So take it to the Lord in prayer 22:03 In His arms He'll take and shield thee 22:16 Thou will find a solace there 22:33 Take it to the Lord in prayer |
