00:21 Hello and welcome back to Praise. I'm Kelly Mowrer
00:24 Have you ever thought about how easy it is to sort of forget 00:28 about God when things are going well? When our lives are 00:32 relatively peaceful and comfortable we can sometimes 00:36 relax and just drift along, but when something drastically goes 00:40 wrong suddenly we're reminded sharply of how much we need 00:44 his protection and provision. Today we're going to spend some 00:49 time thinking about ways we can focus on God and follow him with 00:53 awareness and intention all of the time, not just when the hard 00:57 times bring him to mind. There are three ways we can define 01:01 what it means to follow, three different pictures. First to 01:05 follow can literally mean to walk right behind someone, to 01:09 follow in their footsteps, to go after them. Secondly, 01:13 following can mean to obey like we speak about following rules 01:17 or following instructions. And part of this definition can also 01:21 mean to cooperate with someone, to follow their advice. 01:24 Then thirdly, to follow can mean to copy like when we imitate 01:30 someone or copy someone's way of doing things or living. 01:34 All three of these pictures of the word following apply to our 01:40 connection to God. We need to walk closely in his steps. 01:44 We need to learn his ways and his instructions and live by 01:48 them and we need to study and copy his way of living. We need 01:52 the Lord to guide us and show us and teach us how to follow 01:56 him every day and every hour. 01:59 If We Ever Korean Men's Quartet 02:03 If we ever needed the Lord before, 02:06 We sure do need him now. Oh, we sure do need him now. 02:12 We sure do need him now. Oh glory, 02:16 If we ever needed the Lord before, 02:20 Oh, we sure do need him now. 02:23 We need him every day and every hour. 02:31 We need him in the morning, We need him in the night. 02:44 Oh we need him at the noonday When the sun is shining bright. 02:56 If we ever needed the Lord before, 03:00 We sure do need him now. 03:03 Oh, we sure do need him now. 03:06 Sure do need him now. Oh glory, 03:10 If we ever needed the Lord before, 03:13 we sure do need him now. 03:15 We need him every day and every hour. 03:24 We need him when we're burdened. 03:29 We need him when you're sad. 03:37 Oh we need him when your happy 03:43 And when our hearts are glad. 03:49 If we ever needed the Lord before, 03:52 We sure do need him now. Oh, we sure do need him now. 03:58 We sure do need him now. Oh glory, 04:02 If we ever needed the Lord before, 04:06 We sure do need him now. 04:09 We need him every day and every hour. 04:48 Just the time I feel that I've been caught in the mire of self 04:59 Just the time I feel my mind's been bought by worldly wealth, 05:10 That's when the breeze begins to blow. 05:17 I know the Spirit's call 05:22 And all my worldly wanderings 05:29 Just melt into his love. 05:34 Oh I want to know you more. 05:39 Deep within my soul 05:41 I want to know you. 05:44 Oh I want to know you, 05:46 to feel your heart and 05:49 and know your mind. 05:51 Looking in your eyes 05:53 stirs up within me 05:55 cries that say I want to know. 06:03 Oh I want to know you more 06:12 When my daily deeds 06:15 ordinarily lose life and song, 06:21 my heart begins to bleed 06:28 sensitivity to him is gone. 06:34 I've run the race 06:37 but set my own pace 06:40 and face a shattered soul 06:45 Now the gentle arms of Jesus 06:52 warm my hunger to be whole. 06:57 Oh I want to know you more. 07:02 Deep within my soul 07:05 I want to know you. 07:07 Oh I want to know you, 07:09 to feel your heart 07:11 and know your mind, 07:14 Looking in your eyes 07:16 stirs up within me 07:18 cries that say 07:19 I want to know you. 07:24 Oh I want to know you 07:28 and I would give 07:30 my final breath 07:32 to know you 07:33 in your death and resurrection. 07:38 Oh I want to know you more. 07:42 Oh I want to know you, 07:46 to know you more. 07:55 Oh I want to know you more. 08:20 As we pray to follow Jesus more and more closely, our prayers 08:26 also include our confession of our own helplessness. 08:29 We acknowledge to him how very much we need him to keep our 08:33 feet from stumbling and to keep us on the paths of righteousness 08:37 for his namesake. We'll never walk that path in our own 08:41 strength but God is available and present in our life, 08:46 guiding us every step. No matter how hard it is sometimes we can 08:50 always say with David, my help comes from the Lord. He will not 08:55 let my feet stumble. God is my keeper. 09:04 I will lift up my eyes to the 09:07 hills. From whence cometh my 09:10 help. My help cometh from 09:15 the Lord. The Lord who made heaven and earth. 09:21 He said, he will not suffer thy 09:26 foot, thy foot, to be moved. 09:30 The Lord which keepeth thee, 09:35 he will not slumber nor sleep. 09:39 For the Lord is my keeper, The Lord is my shade, 09:48 upon thy right hand, upon thy right hand, 09:56 No, the sun shall not 10:01 smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. 10:07 He shall preserve thy soul 10:11 even for evermore 10:18 My help, my help, my help 10:30 all of my help cometh from the Lord 10:46 ¤ ¤ 10:52 I will lift up mine eyes to the hills, 10:56 from whence cometh my help. 10:59 My help cometh from the Lord, 11:03 The Lord, who made heaven and earth 11:08 He said he will not suffer thy foot 11:14 thy foot to be moved 11:18 Lord which keepeth thee 11:21 he will not slumber nor sleep 11:26 For the Lord is my keeper 11:31 The Lord is thy shade 11:35 upon thy right hand 11:43 For the sun shall not smite thee by day, 11:49 Nor the moon by night. 11:53 He shall preserve thy soul 11:58 Even for evermore 12:05 My help, my help, my help, 12:16 all of my help cometh from the Lord. 12:23 My help, my help, my help 12:33 All of my help cometh from the Lord. 12:41 My help, my help, all of my help cometh from the Lord. 13:03 The Lord. All of my help cometh from the Lord. 13:27 In the well-known passage of faith in Hebrews we are 13:33 reminded of the many stories of so many men and women of God, 13:37 giants of faith who truly learned what it meant to lean 13:41 completely on God and find their strength in his power. 13:45 They weren't strong on their own and their lives certainly 13:48 weren't easy. But their faith in God gives us the encouragement 13:53 we need to run the race that lies before us with patience 13:57 looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith. 14:01 Learning to Lean Donna Shirley and Jack Crosby 14:03 Learning to lean, Learning to lean, 14:12 I'm learning to lean on Jesus. 14:20 Finding more power than I ever dreamed 14:30 I'm learning to lean on Jesus. 14:40 A joy I can't explain is filling my soul 14:50 Since the day I met Jesus my king. 14:59 His blessed Holy Spirit 15:04 Is leading my way. 15:08 He is teaching and I'm learning to lean. 15:15 Learning to lean, Learning to lean, 15:26 I'm learning to lean on Jesus. 15:36 Finding more power than I've ever dreamed, 15:46 I'm learning to lean on Jesus. 15:56 There's glorious victory 16:01 each day now for me, 16:05 As I dwell in his peace so serene. 16:14 He helps me with each task, If only I ask. 16:23 Every day now I am learning to lean. 16:33 Learning to lean, Learning to lean, 16:42 I'm learning to lean on Jesus. 16:52 Finding more power 16:56 than I've ever dreamed. 17:00 I'm learning to lean on Jesus. 17:17 Chorus of Faith Sandra Enterman 17:34 Sing it with your life, Sing it with your heart 17:38 Make melody with the words of your mouth 17:41 But mind that you listen Tell it to others 17:45 Hear the chorus of faith, Live the chorus of faith. 17:54 The first note of the song split the darkness 18:01 And was sung by the planets and stars 18:07 And their light spoke "Hallelujah" 18:13 And the words of the chorus Were sung by angels before us 18:21 Now come join in the tune. 18:27 Sing it with your life, Sing it with your heart 18:31 Make melody with the words of your mouth 18:34 But mind that you listen Tell it to others 18:38 Hear the chorus of faith, Live the chorus of faith. 18:44 Then in time Jesus came to be for us 18:54 And his coming 18:57 made our life a song 19:04 And his word is the chorus 19:07 Is the light that is burning 19:10 Is the truth beyond glory 19:15 Is the reason we sing. 19:20 Sing it with your life Sing it with your heart 19:24 Make melody with the words of your mouth 19:28 But mind that you listen Tell it to others 19:31 Hear the chorus of faith Live the chorus of faith. 19:38 Singing this song's what life is about 19:44 And if your refuse the stones will cry out 19:49 We do not sing that we might be more blessed 19:53 He loves us with passion, without regret 19:58 He cannot love more and will not love less. 20:05 Sing it with your life Sing it with your heart 20:12 Make melody with the words of your mouth 20:16 But mind that you listen Tell it to others 20:20 Hear and live the chorus of faith 20:24 Sing it with your life 20:25 Sing with your heart 20:27 Make melody with the words of your mouth 20:31 But mind that you listen 20:33 Tell it to others 20:35 Hear and live the chorus of faith 20:39 Sing it with your life 20:41 Sing with your heart 20:42 Make melody with the words of your mouth 20:46 But mind that you listen Tell it to others 20:50 Hear and live the chorus of faith 20:58 Hear and live the chorus of faith. 21:05 There's a beautiful, simple song of lifelong commitment with the 21:11 words I Have Decided to Follow Jesus, No turning back, 21:15 No turning back. Sources attribute this song to a prince 21:19 from a tribe in the northeastern part of India, likely written 21:22 sometime in the 1800s when missionaries first brought the 21:26 story of Jesus to that part of the world. When we make our 21:29 decision to follow Jesus, we're no longer walking alone. 21:33 He comes along side us and gives us everything we need to walk 21:39 safely. His word becomes a lamp to our feet and a light to our 21:44 path. 21:45 I Want to Follow you Rudy Micelli 21:47 Wherever ye may lead me I want to follow you 21:59 Through the valley of the shadow 22:05 Or through the mountains' breathless view 22:12 If the crowds applaud my progress 22:17 Or if they never know my name 22:26 I will follow you just the same 22:34 If you lead me through the desert 22:40 Where your voice seems far away 22:47 I will still believe you love me 22:53 I will listen and I will pray 22:59 For if the thousands rolled around me 23:04 or if I am the critics toys 23:11 I will need to know your still small voice 23:24 Lord I want to be your servant But I don't always know how 23:36 But you promised to be with me Lord I need you near me now 23:46 So let me see you in each moment 23:53 day by day and week by week 24:01 and I will follow you 24:11 Wherever ye may lead. 24:22 Lord I will follow you wherever ye may lead. 25:05 One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Psalm 16:11 and this 25:11 describes the beauty of walking with God, following his way, 25:16 loving others as he did and living connected to him as our 25:22 source of complete fulfillment. It says: You will show me the 25:27 path of life. In thy presence is fullness of joy, at thy right 25:33 hand there are pleasures for evermore. 25:50 ¤ ¤ |
