00:01 Wow, I can't believe our time is just about up. But Dr. Anderson
00:03 how does orthopedic surgery fit into your model? 00:07 Well that's a great question and we're trying to figure that out 00:11 So we're sort of feeling that out as we go. In many ways, it's 00:14 the opposite of what we've done. You mentioned how it's so 00:17 equipment dependent. You know we have to drag along a ton of 00:20 equipment. It's technology dependent and it's very 00:24 expertise dependent. So it's the opposite in the sense that the 00:32 rest of our program is very locally driven. So we have local 00:36 employees, supervisors. Not a great need for you know visits 00:42 from Americans and sort of western influence. So that's 00:44 really the strength of the program. The reason orthopedics 00:47 is a passion of mine in these developing countries because it 00:51 makes such a difference. So there's so much trauma, there's 00:54 so many accidents. If you break your leg in the US and I don't 00:58 fix it, no big deal. Somebody else will fix it. It's going to 01:00 get fixed. There's no broken leg that goes unfixed for the most 01:04 part, but in these countries people have horrible open 01:07 fractures that are never treated They get infected. They get an 01:11 amputation and their life is changed forever, not just their 01:14 life but the life of that family for generations. So if dad can't 01:17 work it affects the kids. Their opportunities are less, 01:21 grandkids. You know it's a generational problem. So it's a 01:25 way to make a huge impact in many of these countries. So 01:28 we're trying to figure out how to do that. And probably the 01:31 best way to do that is to provide teaching instead of me 01:34 going over and doing it. Showing someone else how to do it. 01:36 Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. So you're equipping people from 01:41 afar. You're equipping them locally. You're going over there 01:44 This is incredible. I wish we had more time to discuss this. 01:49 But thank you guys for coming on and thank you for sharing 01:52 what's on your heart and your wonderful mission work that's 01:54 taking place. Thank you for joining us. Till next time 01:57 God bless you. 01:58 ♪ ♪ |
