And my little niece she said no 20:01 Auntie Marlene, nothing's coming on. My cousin who was right with 20:04 me she said, what are we going to do? I said I don't know, I 20:07 said I don't know what to do. And I didn't want to be 20:10 flustered I just said let's pray We always pause for prayer and I 20:13 prayed. You know customers would come from all over to be 21:47 with us and everyday phones still ring and you're not 21:52 going to reopen? 21:53 And I said no, I'm doing something better now. I found 21:54 something better. I needed something better. I was offering 21:57 something better to the world but deep down inside I was not 22:00 happy because I was regaining my weight, my diabetes, 22:03 everything was kind of going whack. Pushing a kitchen is hard 22:07 and when you're financially strained, it's difficult to 22:10 be able to 22:12 bring in all the help that you need and so you know I just 22:15 had to make some decisions. It was a tough one for my customers 22:18 but it was the best one for me at that time. 22:20 Yes, that's like a footprint of the beginning of the journey 22:26 where the Lord has led you now through this great journey. 22:29 So you mentioned that you yourself were helping the sick 22:34 but yet you were struggling with some illnesses. So you came to 22:40 the conclusion you know this is the Lord's doing. 22:42 And you did not... 22:43 ..Sometimes we tend to blame God and not accept it but you 22:50 came to terms and you said okay Lord, I accept this as your will 22:54 for my life today. Because with the Lord. There's always 22:58 something better. 23:01 Now it's interesting what you're saying because some people may 23:07 be going through the same thing at this point in their lives but 23:08 you understood the Lord was leading you to do this but then 23:12 you had to understand the Lord was telling you that's enough 23:15 now. There's something else for you to do. 23:18 Okay, we want to know the challenges you face and what 23:20 motivates you to continue. You didn't give up. 23:26 You know it's a lot because you know when you think about 23:29 challenges everyone's going through something, everyone's 23:33 going through. My brother told me yesterday he said Marnie I 23:36 saw a slogan that says Everyone's going through 23:38 something so be kind you know. Smile. You know I've gone 23:41 through divorce since I've seen you guys. I've gone through the 23:44 loss of my parents, everything changed. I'm now living single 23:49 you know. So it's different but I (skips) financial challenges 23:53 the support of having a spouse there with you. That can really 23:57 be very challenging because many nights you're lying in bed 24:00 saying Lord I need you to really be real with me and I'm right 24:03 there talking to Him for real. I'm like listen I need to be 24:06 real with me because I just real pressed going through 24:08 challenges and so as we would have gone through 24:12 those challenges with the shop. 24:14 Just about eight months or nine months before I shut down I had 24:23 lost the weight again, praise God and I had everything 24:27 under control and everybody kept asking how are you going to lose 24:32 weight? I said the same way I lost it 20 years ago, 23 years 24:35 ago but they wanted a physical and I had this opportunity to do 24:40 the news for one of my friends and on the news that night it 24:44 said the Bahamas where I live and that's the Bahamas, the 24:47 Bahamas as a whole, we are number six in the world for 24:51 obesity and number one in the Caribbean. It hit me, it hit me 24:56 like a ton of bricks. I said what not impossible. So I went on 25:00 Google and Hey Google who's number one in the Caribbean for 25:05 the fattest in the Caribbean. He said, the Bahamas. So I did 25:09 a whole TikTok on it and it went viral all over my island and 25:13 people were calling and saying are you for real? That is not 25:16 true. And I said Yes it is. (That's amazing) Yes, it's sad. 25:20 It's sad. You know we brag about a lot of things here in 25:23 the Bahamas. We brag about best water. I know you guys may have 25:30 the best water. We brag about a whole lot of stuff and that 25:33 gives me the opportunity to share, I let people know we've 25:38 got a lot to brag about but we are not bragging about. We can 25:42 brag about being the best this and that, I said, but we should 25:45 be ashamed to be number one in the Caribbean as the fattest 25:49 nation. That's a shame That's nothing to brag about. 25:52 So I use that as my 25:54 thrust. Usually, people say why are we number one? We're number 25:59 one because we eat bad, we eat poorly you know. And so that led 26:03 me to where I am today in this new program I'm now operating. 26:08 You know I admired the fact that the Lord is working with you and 26:13 in your life and you have the strength because you've gone 26:17 through so many losses and emotionally 26:20 you feel almost beat down and many people 26:26 have struggles just like you in those areas. You know losing the 26:32 business because of the pandemic and all these things that have 26:34 happened. Life is no longer as it used to be. It's like you 26:40 have to guess as to what's going to happen next. But the loss of 26:46 your marriage, your trying to restart yourself, get your 26:50 health back. And there are many people that we want to claim our 26:57 health again and a lot of times we don't have the courage or the 27:00 support or maybe we just don't have the self-esteem to do it. 27:07 So how did you find the self esteem to value yourself so much 27:14 and give the attention that you were giving to your clients 27:18 because they were sick and you did everything for them? Like 27:22 the song says you were spending your life mending broken people 27:25 but yet a broken person was serving broken people. So tell 27:30 us how did that mending come around. 27:32 I love that song by the way. (me too) I actually bought the 27:35 soundtrack for that song, it's in my car. I bought it from... 27:40 You know as a prayer line, when I was going through all the 27:47 that, all the challenges I was going through at one point I 27:51 shut my shop down, I didn't go to church for two years I'm 27:54 embarrassed to say but I was still worshipping the Lord. It 27:57 just that I was not ready for the condemnation of the people 28:01 looking on and condemning, whatever you felt like they were 28:05 going on in their minds and their thoughts. You know, you 28:07 felt like you could just hear those thoughts. 28:08 Are you saying that we would be judging you (giggles)? 28:14 Sister let me tell you though. Now that I've gone through it 28:16 I have so much more compassion for a person who is going 28:21 through. And you know sometimes God has to carry us through in 28:23 order for us to realize and have the compassion and love for a 28:28 person who is going through and I realize I didn't want to go 28:32 through it but I went through it for a reason. And so I really 28:37 got closer to the Lord. He told me many times, Marlene you've 28:39 got to have faith. You thought you were close to me but you're 28:43 not. And I realized as I went through that, I wasn't as close 28:47 through as I thought I was. I wasn't, uh, my faith was weak. 28:51 you know and so I really learned I tell you when I'm down to my 28:56 last dollar I'm not going to worry about it because that is 28:57 not my problem. That is your problem. That's where I'm at 29:03 right now and you know what else I did and I invite our listeners 29:08 to do that today. I went through every prayer of 29:11 scripture I could find. I went through every promise I could 29:14 find. That's my next book, a book with all of these promises 29:20 that God gave. And I was just reading those promises back to 29:23 him. And I found every book on prayer I could find, ABCs of 29:27 Prayer, Prayer Warrior, every book...Let me tell you something 29:30 ABC, I said listen you have any more books over there? 29:32 isn't it simple... The ABC directors said 29:38 I'll see if I can find some more Every book, every book, every 29:43 sermon. That's all I wanted to know. How can I get my prayers 29:45 answered by God? How can I get into the throne room and really 29:48 have His attention. Because we want His attention. And I read 29:52 something today from the Spirit of Prophecy, beautiful quote. 29:54 She said you know sometime we rush, we're in haste. We don't 29:58 spend time. And so I (skip) those who are going through, 30:02 get on your knees and before you say anything just be quiet and 30:06 just listen. Let Him minister to your soul, let Him speak to 30:09 you and you'll be okay. That's what I would like to say to you. 30:13 You're going to be okay. (skips) you're going to be stronger and 30:19 wiser and you're going to be happy and God will make you 30:22 whole again because that's what He wants. He's coming for whole 30:25 people. Got you, man. You're going to be just fine. 30:30 Amen. Well listening to you I see that and hear that you are 30:36 a woman of prayer and it's a vital part of your life right 30:41 now. Tell us. Even in prayer you have long and short goals for 30:49 your ministry, Something Better. What are those? Can you share 30:52 some of those with us what you are praying about as far as 30:56 goals for your ministry. 30:57 Right now we are really in prayer because our studio here 31:00 I wish I could take a virtual shot so you could see. It's 31:03 small. But I'm using it. I'm never one to worry about, you 31:07 know sometimes we...I'm not going to get started because I 31:09 don't have everything. I_ But I would like to see a bigger 31:14 studio because I can't invite too many guests to cook along 31:16 with me because my table's too small. So that's our short-term 31:20 goal. But my long-term goal pastor is to see a lifestyle 31:23 center here in the Bahamas. I was teaching a class. You know 31:27 I have a virtual lifestyle program. I have a virtual 31:29 lifestyle program that I run now so we have people from all over 31:34 the world who Zoom in, in the morning. My day starts at four 31:36 o'clock. And five o'clock we're in class for three or four hours 31:40 and one day I just said you now I said we need a lifestyle 31:44 center. We really need one and so I'm praying that God will 31:48 grant me the finances and this ministry Something Better that 31:52 we can see that here. Our people are so sick here in the Bahamas 31:55 I mean like I get passionate. And my sister says I want to be 31:58 as passionate as you. I says yes Cathy you're going to be 32:01 as passionate as me. These people are so sick and we have 32:05 no place to facilitate them, we have no place to house them. So 32:08 we need a video facility in the city and we need one in the 32:12 country and our country would be our Family Islands. So that's 32:15 really my long-term goal. I've been visiting the Family Islands 32:17 by way of soap-making contests for the government and giving me 32:20 an opportunity to view and survey where God would have me 32:24 to go with this project. So that's my project. I have my 32:27 plans drawn already. I just need the funding. So (skips) 32:32 Wow! Praise the Lord. Those are wonderful goals and goals with 32:35 ministry in mind to help people improve their health. And be 32:40 careful what you pray for. You are able to look back and see 32:48 how the Lord has led you and is preparing you for this next 32:52 phase of ministry. 32:54 I definitely want to go to her lifestyle center in the Bahamas. 32:57 Sure. I'll go for the water therapy, please. What is your 33:05 antidote for healthier living Miss Marlene McKinney? 33:09 You know health is a treasure. And I know for a fact that we 33:16 got to make sure that we have an opportunity to reverse these 33:22 little illnesses. So I would first of course say the eight 33:25 laws of health. You know that's definitely part of it. Proper 33:29 nutrition and exercise and water and sunlight and fresh air and 33:32 rest and all of these factors. And having a really good 33:35 personal relationship with the Lord. And then there's another 33:39 antidote. Having great community a great community. We need that 33:44 community social...You know I was following the Harvard study 33:49 It's an 85-year-old Harvard study. The longest study ever. 33:53 Right? And this study shows that we need a community. We need 33:58 social, what's the word, fitness I love it and so that made me... 34:04 Yeah because you know something, unfortunately people don't 34:07 realize that we are dying, we are right now dying because of 34:12 loneliness, because of lack of fellowship and so if I was the 34:18 tell people...you know of course we have to commit to those eight 34:21 laws of health, that's beautiful we have to commit to those 34:24 things but definitely we need social, that community is very 34:28 important. 34:29 That connection is very important and you know I watch 34:34 your programs, not all of them of course, but some of your 34:37 programs I've been able to watch on your Facebook platform and 34:43 you do exercise, you do health seminars, you interview people, 34:49 you laugh, you get so excited. You're just living what's in 34:57 your heart. You're sharing it with the viewers. So... 35:02 I have to say this Idalia. (What do you have to say) I have to 35:04 say this because it is true, it is true. So even this morning 35:09 She went to the washroom, to the restroom and your program was 35:16 on. You were doing some bread and you said the way you know 35:21 that the dough is good is if it comes back at you and then you 35:28 say well you need to know what's in your bread in the store. And 35:31 then you said Hey I like Google and then you say hey Google and 35:35 so the interesting thing is that our son gave us one of those 35:38 little Google things and the little Google thing said, Yes, 35:42 I don't know the answer to that but I can tell you this about 35:44 and it talked about the bromine and emulsifiers, and I said she 35:51 activated our Google all the way from the Bahamas. But I learned 35:56 something. Yes, you did that. You did that! 36:03 We're connected. We're community 36:05 I use it a lot. This thing is at our fingertips. Why aren't we 36:08 using it? Come on. Before this time we had to go to the library 36:12 and get lots of books. You don't need those anymore. 36:19 I have to say, I did learn something because you were 36:21 talking about those dough conditioners, I think it was. 36:26 and so there's danger, the stuff they're putting in there. It 36:29 says it can trigger asthma situations and other health 36:33 problems and so you share helpful information. I mean 36:37 people are learning how to make bread but they are also learning 36:40 the danger of some of the ingredients in the store-bought 36:44 breads. So thank you so much. We appreciate what you're doing. 36:47 As you can see your virtual program is being heard in the 36:53 Dinzey household. So, please share with our viewers what on 36:56 earth are you doing with the virtual program? What do you do? 36:58 Well, we have a beautiful video. We can put it up there because 37:02 our time's going to run ahead of us and it will show you 37:04 basically what my virtual program's like. 37:06 Excellent. Let's go to the video 37:08 What time is it? The right time to look good and feel good. 37:12 It's challenge time. Get on board with certified health 37:16 coach Marlene McKinney. What time is it? Life-changing time. 37:48 Join the challenge. Get on board 37:53 All right. Good very good. 37:56 Thank you. So it's a virtual program I started over a year 37:58 ago. We have people as far as Australia. Our lady in Australia 38:02 is our biggest loser. She's lost 80 pounds so far. Life changing 38:07 She's been transformed and we have some photos of persons who 38:10 have done the program and I guess we can put those pictures 38:13 up now. We have a few. That's myself and my sister. I'm on the 38:20 left, my left your right I guess and that would be my sister 38:22 Kathy who would have been here today but she chickened out 38:24 (laughter) So that's at the bottom of the picture. We're 38:31 just showing the _. This is my cousin Paula. She's been 38:33 a part of the program from when we started. She's lost 50-plus 38:38 pounds and just (skips). Now this young lady, Dr. Percefiny 38:44 about two months and so she's just losing and doing so great. 38:50 There are other photos. You can always go on over to Facebook 38:56 YouTube and of course Something Better Today you can find those 39:00 there before and after journeys those who have participated in 39:04 our virtual...But it's not just weight loss. It's weight loss, 39:06 it's diabetes, it's heart disease. Many people have come 39:09 to us with all forms of illnesses, cancer, and all over 39:14 the world. That's the beauty of being virtual...(laughter) 39:20 You know in reference to what you said that we need to be in a 39:25 community you know together. You know the virtual get together's 39:31 are excellent. Of course, we all know that nowadays there's a 39:35 log of isolation, there's a lot of depression and a lot of 39:41 things that the people are going through and yet one of them is 39:43 their health, they need to improve their health or our 39:48 health and we also are interested in losing weight just 39:51 as there are people that are interested in gaining weight 39:54 because there are some folks that write to us and say you are 39:58 always sharing you know how to lose weight, I need to gain 40:01 weight so okay there's something for everyone. 40:04 So it's not just a losing weight program but an overall improving 40:10 your health program. 40:11 No, it's not just weight loss. We have persons who have joined our 40:15 program for diabetes. We've gotten their numbers under 40:18 control. We have people who have oh my goodness cancer 40:24 unfortunately very important. We have persons with high 40:26 cholesterol, high blood pressure so it's quite a wide range of 40:29 program that we run. It's a virtual lifestyle center. It's 40:32 just that it's virtual and you can do it from the safety of 40:34 your home. 40:36 Mm-hmm, amen. So in the virtual lifestyle center, is it lectures 40:41 or you do some hands-on things that they see. 40:43 She does everything (everything) 40:47 My morning starts really early so I'm in bed with the chickens 40:51 so I start with our exercise at five. We do a full hour and a 40:55 half of first aerobics and then resistance and pushups and all 41:00 that kind of stuff. We try to be healthy and live a little longer 41:02 and have a better quality of life. In addition to that then 41:07 we gave a lecture or a cooking demo. We have an actual schedule 41:11 where the schedule shows them what happens each day and what 41:15 happens each hour. Then we end with chair aerobics for people 41:18 who have mobility issues or persons who just prefer to not 41:22 do the stand-up exercise. And I'm doing all this, I'm doing 41:25 all this, halleluiah Jesus. 41:27 That is in my book. Get a copy of my book. I have several books 41:31 and (skips)at this time. I have a cookbook, the one I started 41:37 with that I came to 3ABN with. Vegetarian Delights by Marlene 41:43 McKinney. Then since then, I have the new book which is 13 Steps to 41:48 A Thinner You. All of these are available on our website and 41:51 of course at amazon.com 41:53 and then of course I have My Journey to Something Better, In 41:57 Search of Something Better Today a compilation of stories. 42:02 and testimonies how God brought us through to something better. 42:05 And how... at this time with Daniel Fast. A lot of people 42:09 don't know how to do it. This is a cookbook that has just a few 42:12 recipes, simple, easy to follow and just enjoyable. 42:16 Oh so there's a lot to see there in your website, this is good 42:19 very good. So you are leaving in the minds of people to...we're 42:24 going to go to the information on how to contact you in a 42:27 moment so we're letting folks at home know that get ready to 42:33 write it down or take a picture of it if you can those of you 42:36 that on TV and those that are on radio you need to record it or 42:39 write it down quickly and if you cannot get it you need to 42:42 contact us at 3ABN and so yes Idalia. You have any more 42:47 questions that you... 42:48 Well I think that the health ministries has a special place 42:52 now in the times that we're living in. I mean Christ's 42:55 return is imminent. 42:57 Jesus Christ is coming soon so how would you say this is 43:01 related or helps people understand the awareness of the 43:05 second coming. Is it important? 43:07 Most definitely. You know I have a beautiful quote from the 43:11 Spirit of Prophecy. I love this quote. It says the mind does not 43:14 wear out nor does it break down So often on account of diligent 43:18 employment and hard study as on account of eating improper food 43:22 at improper times. Really if we pay careful attention to those 43:27 laws of health you know we being definitely reap the ill rewards 43:33 of that and so we really need to be taking better care of 43:36 ourselves. There is definitely a connection between the two. 43:39 The apostle Paul tells us that if you want to be successful in 43:43 reaching a high standard of Godliness we must be temperate 43:46 in all things. And that not just our eating. This is a lifestyle. 43:49 It's everything, it's everything And people say well I already 43:56 did that. It's not about the food, it's about everything what 43:58 we eat, when we sleep everything so we must really keep our lives 44:01 in perspective and do the best we can to be one with God 44:06 because He wants us to be one with Him. He's trying to save us 44:08 Gospel's saving and (skips) even if God don't come through 44:13 for you, you keep on praising Him anyhow. 44:14 Marlene the time is going fast. and there's only a few minutes 44:20 left but you have so much more. What other ministry do you 44:24 operate and how did you get involved with it and how do you 44:27 meet the financial challenges that your ministry faces just 44:32 like any other ministry. I mean what...Tell us. We want to know 44:35 everything. 44:37 As you know we have soap making. I know if they go to our website 44:42 they can see all of our soap making. I've taught thousands of 44:44 persons how to make soap. Thousands. This lady Grace who's 44:49 on the screen 44:50 right here has started a business as a result of the 44:52 classes that I have taught her. And she is still running a 44:56 business years later, many years later. So I teach soap making. I 45:02 do sell soap but not as much as I teach. I love to teach. But 45:05 teaching it is my passion so my largest class just last week 45:11 with one group of Zoom class was 200 persons, 200 persons. And so 45:16 I'm teaching a class almost every Sunday, every other Sunday 45:19 but as my time allows and my energy allows. And I'm always... 45:23 guess what, guess what God wants I'm getting to travel to every 45:28 Family Island throughout the Bahamas teaching soap-making 45:31 for my government. And so that's a free vacation. Whenever I need 45:35 a rest God says (skips)_ because she needs a break. 45:40 And you know it helps to fund our ministry because it's not 45:42 easy being a ministry. And if you're out there thinking of 45:45 going into ministry you're going to get (skip) I'm baling in. 45:49 Many times I did that. I'd go looking for a job. I can't do 45:52 do this no more. Twenty-four years, I am done. But you know 45:55 God comes through, He comes through and so you can find 45:58 means and ways of doing this. So not just soap. I teach a lot 46:01 of different classes, soap making, lip balm, skincare 46:05 products you know. You've got to take care of in and out both 46:09 in and out you know. So I haven't bought soap in 17 years 46:13 and I got to share a story I know times short but I got to 46:16 share. You know 17 years ago when I started making soap I 46:20 called my mom. I said, Mom I want to learn to make soap. 46:22 She says what? My grandfather made soap. Not my grandfather, 46:29 her grandfather. (skips). She must have gotten it from 46:34 Papa. And I'm no I just woke up and wanted to make soap so I'm 46:40 teaching my granddaughter how to make soap and she just loves it. 46:42 She's going to be nine just a few days from now and she's like 46:45 Nana, I love being here._ You made soap today and 46:49 deodorant tomorrow and lip balm I'm just teaching her everything 46:51 You pass it on. We've got to pass it on. If we don't pass it 46:57 on then what's going to happen. That gift that you have. You're 47:00 passing it on to other people it's going to die with you. 47:04 Let's stop doing that. Our gifts are going to buried in the grave 47:08 with us. God don't like that. That's being selfish. Just open 47:12 those hands and give. (skips) just give it. Happiness will 47:17 come, completeness will come, the finances will come just when 47:21 you need it most. So I hope I inspired someone today with that 47:25 Giving. Give. 47:27 You are an encouraging person. We're going to have to tell you 47:31 that. Give us 30 seconds of why make soap. Is there something 47:35 wrong with the soap that you find in the store? I know there 47:39 is but can you tell us what's the problem with the soap? 47:42 It's not soap. It's detergent. So we're making soap. When we 47:48 make our soaps you know we use oils. We use coconut, olive. 47:53 You're moisturizing and healing your skin. When you get those 47:57 harsh detergents in the food store or the grocery store, 47:59 wherever you're purchasing them from they are harsh. They're not 48:01 good for us and they are stripping the skin of moisture 48:05 and it's not healing. So what's you're bathing in is actually 48:09 detergent, it's not soap. 48:13 Thank you very much. 48:15 That's very interesting. 48:16 I'll get some soap for you guys and we'll put it in the mail. 48:17 Now I have to go take a bath now (laughter) 48:25 We appreciate, send it, we'll be happy to receive it. 48:28 I will, I will _ tomorrow and I'm going to put it in the 48:33 mail. So get me your address and you will get something 48:35 better in the mail. 48:37 Amen, well thank you. 48:39 Let me ask you a quick question here. You're traveling around 48:43 the area for your country but if someone wants to invite you to 48:46 come and do a seminar to teach how to do some cooking or any of 48:52 those things you do. 48:53 I'd be more than happy to. I do speaking engagements, cooking 48:57 classes, soap making, all of the above and I just can't come to 49:02 the U.S. just yet, I'm still on lockdown there but I can travel 49:05 everywhere else and I've done it. I've gone to Europe to teach 49:08 soap making in Switzerland, Germany, and England 49:11 and I had a good time so... 49:14 I wouldn't mind being able to go to the Bahamas and recording the 49:16 program over there, you know. 49:22 My real dream is that 3ABN would come to me. Let's do this, 49:26 I just want to say thank you so much to 3ABN for this 49:32 opportunity. I really believe that we can do virtually 49:35 anything except to virtually get married. But I really believe 49:39 that we can virtually do anything. With God all things 49:42 are possible. All things are possible to them that believe. 49:46 Somebody, I hope you're being encouraged to just keep going 49:51 don't give up. Don't give up. 49:55 Amen. We're all in our journey right? And the Lord is there 49:58 with us in our journey and He will encourage us and He will 50:01 give us everything that we need. He is always available. We 50:06 just need to make time for the Lord and know what our needs are. 50:11 Not necessarily know what our needs are. The Lord will reveal 50:15 to us and He will help us. Well I don't know what journey you're 50:18 in and what struggles you have but I'm sure you also have 50:23 praises at home. God has been good and He's been faithful and 50:27 He's always made provision for our every need. So praise God 50:32 for the ministry of Something Better Today and thank you 50:38 Marlene. We're going to share your contact information so the 50:41 folks at home can you know follow up from this interview. 50:43 Yes and I also would like to say you know go to the website, find 50:46 out the information. We're going to share it in a moment. I hope 50:50 you are ready. And if you cannot get it all you can contact us to 50:54 get it. But you know she does seminars. You can join in. She 50:59 gets up early in the morning for exercise. You can do the whole 51:01 health program virtually. This is fantastic. I don't think I've 51:05 ever heard of that before Idalia A virtual wellness course that 51:10 you can take. Also the books. She has some wonderful books, 51:13 cooking books to get you going on a better journey for health. 51:17 And so we're going to come back in a moment and have some final 51:21 comments by her but we will see you in a moment. 51:24 If you would like more information about Something 51:29 Better Today you can reach them at P.O.
