00:02 I want to spend my life mending broken people I want to spend
00:15 my life 00:35 I want to spend my life mending broken people I want to spend 00:47 my life 02:54 I love that old Doris Aker's tune, there's a sweet, sweet 02:58 spirit in this place. 03:03 I just had that song on my heart and thought we need to 03:06 get it out there. 03:08 So this is a 3ABN special, special, special. 03:14 And it's special because you have, of all the things that 03:19 you could be doing, you're taking time to just pause and 03:24 be a part, to watch, but more than watch, because you're 03:30 going to be singing along with me, I hope. 03:33 And it's always special when I sit down and play, and you 03:36 know, life gets so busy, and I didn't mean that because it's 03:40 me playing that's special, but my life gets so busy that, 03:44 believe it or not, there are other things that I know how to 03:47 do besides play the piano. 03:50 And there will be days that go by that I don't sit down and 03:54 just take a moment to play. 03:57 So when I get a call to come be a part of a program like this 04:03 that is just worshiping the Lord and praising him, doing 04:08 what we love to do, gather around the piano and seeing his 04:12 praises, I am all for it. 04:15 So I hope you are comfortable, and if you need to get a glass 04:21 of water so that you can keep your voice nice and lubricated 04:29 so you can sing out, I invite you just to make a joyful 04:34 noise. 04:38 Let's sing this, A Lily of the Valley. 04:44 I have found a friend in Jesus. 04:49 He's everything to me. 04:51 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. 04:57 The lily of the valley, in him alone I see all I need to 05:03 cleanse and make me fully whole. 05:07 In sorrow he's my comfort, in trouble he's my stay. 05:13 He tells me every care on him to roll. 05:18 He's the lily of the valley, the bright and morning star. 05:23 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. 05:29 He all my grief has taken and all my sorrows born in 05:34 temptation. 05:35 He's my strong and mighty tower. 05:38 I have all for him forsaken and all my idols torn from my 05:44 heart. 05:45 And now he keeps me by his power. 05:49 Though all the world forsake me and Satan tempt me sore, 05:54 through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal. 05:59 He's the lily of the valley, the bright and morning star. 06:03 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. 06:17 Oh, he will never, never leave me nor yet forsake me here 06:23 while I live by faith and do his blessed will. 06:28 He's a wall of fire about me and I have nothing now to fear. 06:33 With his manna he my hungry soul shall fill. 06:39 Then sweeping up to glory to see his blessed face where 06:44 rivers of delight shall ever roll. 06:49 He's the lily of the valley, the bright and morning star. 06:53 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. 06:58 Yes, he's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. 07:11 That is so fun. 07:12 That song was written in the mid-1800s by Charles William 07:18 Fry. 07:19 Charles was a bricklayer and a successful contractor and a 07:22 musician. 07:24 Charles was a Methodist layman and one day he witnessed abuse 07:29 against the Salvation Army as they were establishing their 07:33 ministry in 1878 and he offered to serve as a bodyguard for the 07:38 Salvation Army workers. 07:40 The next day Fry and his three sons arrived with their 07:45 weapons. 07:46 Listen to this, which consisted of two cornets or like 07:51 trumpets, a trombone and a small tuba which they played 07:56 between fighting off the troublemakers. 07:59 Their music attracted a crowd and thus the first Salvation 08:03 Army band was formed. 08:04 Now I think that's a great way to defend is using your 08:12 instrument, using something positive against a negative, 08:16 right? 08:17 One of my favorite scripture verses is Deuteronomy 33-27. 08:21 The eternal God is thy refuge and underneath are the 08:26 everlasting arms. 08:28 And I like to contemplate what it means to find refuge in our 08:34 Heavenly Father's arms in times of fear or trial and to allow 08:39 God's peace to replace all my anxiety. 08:43 And that's why I love this song Leaning on the Everlasting Arms 08:48 of God. 08:52 What 09:03 a fellowship, what a joy divine Leaning on the everlasting arms 09:12 What a blessedness, what a peace is mine Leaning on the 09:20 everlasting arms I'm leaning, leaning, safe and secure from 09:33 all alarms. 09:36 I'm leaning, yes I'm leaning, leaning on the everlasting 09:46 arms. 09:49 Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, leaning on the 09:58 everlasting arms. 10:02 Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day, leaning on the 10:10 everlasting arms. 10:13 I'm leaning, I'm leaning, I'm safe and secure from all 10:24 alarms. 10:26 I'm leaning, yes I'm leaning, leaning on the everlasting 10:37 arms. 11:08 Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from 11:21 me, yes I'm leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms. 11:33 So think about it, what have I to dread, what have I to fear, 11:39 leaning on the everlasting arms. 11:45 I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, when I'm leaning 11:51 on the everlasting arms. 11:56 Yes, I'm leaning, leaning, I'm safe and secure from all 12:07 alarms. 12:09 I'm leaning, yes I'm leaning, leaning on the everlasting 12:21 arms. 12:23 I'm depending on you Lord, to always be there for me. 12:31 That's why I'm leaning on the everlasting arms of... 12:44 That is a firm foundation we can always trust, lean on the 12:51 arms of God. 13:10 There's no other name like Jesus, tis the dearest name we 13:19 know. 13:21 Tis the angels' joy in heaven, tis the Christians' joy below. 13:30 Sweet name, dear name, there's no other name like Jesus. 13:41 Sweet name, dear name, there's no other name like Jesus. 13:51 And there's no other name like Jesus, when the heart with 13:59 grief is sad. 14:01 There's no other name like Jesus, when the heart is free 14:08 and glad. 14:10 Sweet name, oh lovely name, there's no other name like 14:19 Jesus. 14:20 Sweet name, dear name, there's no other name like Jesus. 14:35 Tis the hope that I shall see him, when in glory he appears. 14:42 Tis the hope to hear his welcome, then my fainting 14:50 spirit cheers. 14:54 Sweet name, dear name, there's no other name like Jesus. 15:04 Sweet name, dear name, there's no other name like Jesus. 15:23 It makes me want to sing, oh how I love Jesus, oh how I love 15:36 Jesus, oh how I love Jesus. 15:45 Because he first 15:56 loved me, there is a name I love to hear, I love to sing. 16:05 It's worth, it sounds like music in my ear, the sweetest 16:15 name on earth. 16:18 Oh how I love Jesus, oh how I love Jesus, oh how I love 16:35 Jesus. 16:37 Because he first loved me, 16:48 it tells me of a Savior's love, who died to set me free. 16:58 It tells me of his precious blood, the sinner's perfect 17:08 plea. 17:11 It tells of one whose loving heart can feel my deepest woe, 17:22 who in each sorrow bears a part that none can bear below. 17:36 Oh that's why I love my Jesus, oh how I love Jesus, oh how I 17:56 love Jesus. 18:03 Because he first loved me. 18:14 I just want to take a moment, I really feel impressed to do 18:17 this, just to take a moment and pray. 18:19 That last verse, it says, it tells of one whose loving heart 18:23 can feel my deepest woe, who in each sorrow bears a part that 18:29 none can bear below. 18:31 You may be going through something as you're watching 18:35 this and you're trying to sing these songs, but whatever 18:40 you're facing seems to be bigger than this song, even 18:47 than Jesus. 18:49 Friend, let me tell you, Jesus can bear whatever you're going 18:55 through. 18:56 So I just want to pray for us for a moment, for you, for 19:00 whatever you're facing. 19:03 Father God, I thank you that you can go beyond time, you can 19:08 go ahead of time, and you can meet us in our very moment of 19:14 time that we are in need. 19:19 When we can't find anyone else to lend an ear, when we can't 19:24 find any doctor to give us a cure or even a hope. 19:31 Father, we can trust that you are the healer. 19:36 We trust that you know exactly what we need. 19:43 We trust that you can meet those needs according to your 19:47 riches and glory, whether it be physical need or a material 19:52 need, a financial need, a friendship mended, a 19:59 relationship, a husband and wife, a marriage relationship 20:02 that needs mended. 20:06 You are able, and so I just ask in Jesus' name for whatever our 20:14 viewers, our dear brothers and sisters are going through right 20:17 now. 20:19 I pray that you would restore their hope in you, restore 20:23 their song in you. 20:25 Lord, we love you, we know you've got the whole world in 20:30 your hands. 20:31 All the resources are yours. 20:34 So we claim as children of the King, we just claim your 20:40 promises. 20:41 So I want to say thank you, Lord. 20:44 Thank you for answering prayer, for hearing our prayer, and 20:47 thank you for hearing these songs as we sing them to you. 20:50 We are encouraged to. 20:53 We love you, God. 20:56 Amen, amen. 20:59 Louise Stead grew up in England and immigrated to America in 21:04 1871 where she started a family, and a few years later, 21:10 she was away visiting family back in England while her 21:14 husband remained in the States, and he drowned actually trying 21:20 to save their young son. 21:24 Life brings heartache to each of us, and sometimes it affects 21:30 our trust in God. 21:31 We ask why such terrible things happen, and it was shortly 21:37 after her husband drowned that Louise Stead wrote these words, 21:45 Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him, how I've proved him o'er and o 21:52 'er, Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, oh, for grace to trust 21:59 him more. 22:01 Whatever you're going through, you can trust. 22:05 Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus Just to take him at his word 22:18 Just to rest upon his promise Just to know the saith the Lord 22:33 Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him How I've proved him o'er and o 22:47 'er Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, Oh, for grace to trust 23:01 Him more. 23:08 Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust His 23:17 cleansing blood, And in simple faith to plunge me Neath the 23:28 healing, cleansing flood. 23:33 Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him, How I proved Him o'er and o'er. 23:45 Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, Oh, for grace to trust Him 23:59 more. 24:04 Yes, tis sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self 24:16 to cease, Just from Jesus simply taking Life and rest and 24:29 joy and peace. 24:34 Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him, How I proved Him o'er and o'er 24:46 and o'er. 24:48 Oh, Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, Oh, for grace to trust 25:04 Him more. 25:39 A wonderful Savior is Jesus, my Lord, A wonderful Savior to me. 25:58 He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock Where rivers of 26:09 pleasure I see. 26:15 He hideth my soul in the cleft of that shadows a dry, thirsty 26:29 land. 26:30 He hideth my life in the depths of His love And He covers me 26:45 there with His hand And covers me there with His hand. 27:05 O wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord. 27:13 He carries my burdens away. 27:19 He's holding me up and I shall not be moved. 27:28 He's giving me strength day by day. 27:35 He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock that shadows a dry 27:46 thirsty land. 27:49 He hideth my life in the depths of His love and He covers me 28:02 there with His hand. 28:08 And covers me there with His hand. 28:19 With numberless blessings each moment He crowns and fills with 28:27 His fullness divine. 28:31 I sing in my rapture O Glory to God for such a Redeemer as 28:42 mine. 28:48 When clothed in His brightness transported I rise to meet Him 28:57 in clouds in the sky. 29:02 His perfect salvation His wonderful love I'll shout with 29:12 the millions on high. 29:19 He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock that shadows a dry 29:30 thirsty land. 29:34 He hideth my life in the depths of His love and He covers me 29:51 there with His hand. 29:59 And He covers me there with His hand. 30:23 Hey man, isn't that encouraging? 30:25 Such a personal song filled with reminders of God's 30:30 individual love for His children. 30:32 He loves each of us, just like each of us was His only child. 30:39 And that's the joy of having a personal relationship with our 30:43 Heavenly Father. 30:45 The psalmist David did something similar when he wrote 30:49 the 23rd Psalm. 30:51 It's full of me's and my's. 30:54 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my 30:58 life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. 31:02 Ah, I love that. 31:03 The me's and my's. 31:15 A pilgrim was I and a wandering. 31:21 In the cold night of sin I did roam when Jesus the kind 31:29 shepherd found me. 31:32 And now I am on my way home. 31:38 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days, all the 31:47 days of my life. 31:51 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days, all the 31:59 days of my life. 32:06 He restoreth my soul when I'm weary. 32:12 He giveth me strength day by day. 32:18 He leads me beside the still waters, and He guards me each 32:27 step of the way. 32:30 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days, all the 32:39 days of my life. 32:43 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days, all the 32:51 days of my life. 32:58 Oh, when I walk through the dark, lonesome valley, my 33:06 Savior is gonna walk with me there, and safely His great 33:14 hand will lead me to the mansions He's gone to prepare. 33:24 And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever, and I 33:31 shall feast at the table spread for me. 33:46 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days, all the 33:55 days of my life. 33:59 All the days, all the days of my 34:18 life. 34:19 Amen. 34:20 Isn't that great news? 34:22 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me. 34:24 Most of us have that scripture memorized, and it's easy to let 34:29 the words escape without grasping their magnitude. 34:35 One of the reasons that I love songs and these hymns in 34:39 particular is their poetry, their rhyme, their repetition. 34:44 It helps us remember... 34:45 Unlock a beautiful repetition. 35:14 That's what drives those songs and choruses into our spirit to 35:21 where when we're walking down the road and walking through a 35:24 trial, when we need to tell a friend, it's like sending them 35:29 a card. 35:33 me. 35:34 He leadeth me. 35:34 He'll lead you. 35:35 He'll lead you. 35:36 It doesn't have to be some ornate explanation, just a 35:41 simple phrase that repeating that. 35:45 So anyway, I know that that's old English, even like, He 35:49 leadeth me. 35:51 We don't use that today, but I can break it down for you. 35:55 He leads me. 35:57 That's it. 35:58 If you need direction or clarity, ask Him. 36:02 He'll lead you. 36:03 If you've lost your vision or your purpose, ask Him. 36:08 He'll lead you. 36:09 I love that. 36:11 Isn't that great? 36:12 He really will. 36:14 I've experienced His leading so many times because I have 36:19 stopped after I've tried everything else. 36:22 Seriously, tried everything else. 36:26 And I prayed, God, I don't know what to do. 36:30 Lead me. 36:30 Lead me to the right people. 36:32 Lead me to the right job. 36:33 Lead me to the right decision. 36:36 He will do it. 36:37 He is faithful. 36:39 That's why we have the privilege of going to Him in 36:42 prayer. 36:42 Oh, what needless pain we bear. 36:45 Oh, because we don't go to God in prayer. 36:47 He will lead you. 36:48 So that's why I love this song. 37:18 He leadeth me, O blessed thought, O words with heavenly 37:26 comfort fraught. 37:32 Whate'er I be, still tis God's hand that leadeth me. 37:42 He leadeth me. 37:46 He leadeth me. 37:50 By His own hand He leadeth me. 37:56 His faithful follower I would be, for by His hand He leadeth 38:18 me. 38:19 Sometimes mid-scenes of deepest gloom, sometimes where Eden's 38:28 flowers bloom, by waters calm or troubled sea, still tis 38:36 God's hand. 38:43 He leadeth me. 38:45 He leadeth me. 38:49 By His strong hand He leadeth me. 38:55 His faithful follower I would be, for by His hand He leadeth 39:07 me. 39:15 Lord, I would clasp Thy hand in mine, nor ever murmur, nor 39:23 repine, content whatever lot I see, knowing tis God's hand 39:33 that leadeth me. 39:36 And when my task on earth is done, when by God's grace the 39:45 victory's won, oh, even death's cold way, I will not flee, 39:57 since God through Jordan He leadeth me, He leadeth me by 40:15 His strong hand. 40:17 He leadeth me, His faithful follower I want to be. 40:28 For by His hand He leadeth me. 40:54 Yeah, He leadeth me. 40:56 Trust Him, He'll lead you. 40:59 Though life is always changing, God assures you that He is 41:04 steadfast, He is dependable. 41:06 And we learn that what seems so important in life is really 41:13 insignificant when compared to knowing that Jesus never fails, 41:18 Jesus never leaves us. 41:21 This comforting hymn of prayer describes the evening of life 41:26 when the sun of our life is going down and the peace of 41:31 God's presence through that time. 41:33 This is a kind of an obscure hymn, but I love the message. 42:28 You know what? 42:28 Abide with me. 42:32 Abide with me. 42:35 Fast falls the even tide. 42:41 The darkness deepens. 42:45 Lord, with me abide. 42:50 When other helpers fail and comforts flee. 42:59 Help of the helpless, O abide with me. 43:11 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day. 43:19 Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away. 43:27 Change and decay in all around I see. 43:38 O thou who changest not, abide with me. 43:55 I need thy presence every passing hour. 44:02 Thy grace can foil the tempter's pow'r. 44:14 Who like thyself, my guide and strength can be. 44:23 Through cloud or sunshine, O abide with me. 44:33 I like the verse says, I fear no foe with thee at hand to 44:40 bless. 44:42 Ills have no weight and tears no bitterness. 44:49 Where is death's sting? 44:52 Where graved thy victory? 44:57 I triumph still if thou abide with me. 45:13 Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes. 45:20 Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. 45:30 Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee. 45:40 In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. 47:05 I need thee every hour, most gracious Lord. 47:15 No tender voice like thine can peace afford. 47:28 I need thee, O, I need thee, O, bless me now, my Savior. 47:44 I come to thee. 47:58 I need thee every hour, stay thou near by. 48:07 Temptations lose their pow'r when thou art nigh. 48:17 I need thee every hour in joy or pain. 48:27 Come quickly and my 48:35 grief is vain. 48:39 I need thee, O, I need thee, every hour I need thee. 48:56 O bless me now, my Savior. 49:01 O bless me now, my Savior, 49:13 to thee. 49:22 And I need thee every hour. 49:28 Teach me your perfect will and your rich promises in me. 49:37 Fulfill, I need thee every hour, most holy one. 49:50 O make me thine indeed, thou blessed Son. 50:00 I need thee, O, I need thee, every hour I need thee. 50:16 O bless me now, my Savior. 50:23 I come 50:30 to thee. 50:43 It's so important for us to practice the presence of God. 50:53 We will pray that God be with us and wrap his arms around us 51:04 and protect us and shield us. 51:08 But then we're moving around so fast that it's not that he 51:14 can't keep up with us, but that we just, we wander off. 51:22 Our mind wanders off and our actions don't portray someone 51:28 who is being held by God and who is needing him to draw near 51:33 to us. 51:40 his presence. 51:43 And there's such a comfort in knowing that he is faithful to 51:48 be there. 51:54 a writer woke up and thought, wow, these words rhyme and sky 51:59 and fly and bye-bye and apple pie. 52:02 No, these were songs that these words, people were going 52:06 through things when they wrote these words. 52:09 So I just encourage you to meditate on these songs and be 52:15 encouraged that when you sing these songs, he will draw close 52:19 to you. 52:22 love when you do. 52:23 And I'm going to take just a moment and grab a drink of 52:27 water and then we'll come right back and we'll sing a couple 52:30 more songs. 52:30 All right. 52:31 Thanks. 52:31 We'll see you soon. |
