00:03 As I often say, 00:04 this is my favorite segment of the program 00:06 where we get to talk to some really important people, 00:09 you the viewers. 00:11 And this is a friend of mine on the line 00:14 that is a music minister 00:15 in Springfield, Missouri 00:17 at the Crossway Baptist Church, 00:19 Mark Mathes, a wonderful songwriter 00:21 and singer and piano player. 00:23 I am honored to have you with us Mark Mathes. 00:25 Thank you for calling in. 00:28 Well, thank you. 00:29 It's good to be here. It's good to see you today. 00:31 Yeah, great to see you too. 00:33 Now, tell me what does music mean to you? 00:36 Oh, Tim, music means a world to me. 00:38 I've been singing since I was child. 00:41 My family, all sing. 00:43 And we would sing in the car on our way to church. 00:47 We'd sing at home. Sing with grandma and grandpa. 00:49 I've just been around music all my life. 00:51 It just really speaks to my heart. 00:53 Right. 00:54 And... You are... 00:55 How many are in your choir there at Crossway? 00:57 Oh, right now somewhere around 160. 01:00 That is awesome. 01:02 And you have an orchestra as well? 01:03 We do, yeah. 01:05 Now do you lead worship from the piano, 01:07 or do you stand and lead worship? 01:10 Most of the time I stand and lead worship. 01:12 But I do go to piano from time to time and play. 01:15 Nice, I love to have that flexibility. 01:16 That is awesome. 01:18 And you are a wonderful songwriter, 01:20 you have some songs... 01:22 What are some of the songs that you have written? 01:23 A lot of southern gospel songs. 01:25 Yeah, lots of southern gospel songs, 01:28 some that you might be familiar with. 01:30 Sometimes it takes mountain by the gate of could be. 01:33 Now, The Hoppers are singing a new song I wrote 01:36 called "Life is good". 01:37 Nice, yeah. 01:39 Great. Yeah. 01:40 Gold City says what? 01:42 Oh, they did, I believe in some other songs. 01:45 Right. Yeah, you know what? 01:46 It's always hard to think of songs 01:48 when you're put on the spot. 01:50 I know. I know from my experience. 01:52 Well, what about a favorite song 01:55 that you have, maybe that you haven't written. 01:58 Oh, in this, it's hard to pick out a favorite song 02:01 but, one that's really dear to me 02:04 "What a day that would be". 02:06 Oh, great, that's by Jim Hill and... 02:09 I think so. Yeah. 02:10 I remember whenever I was with the Spears. 02:14 Brock Speer used to love to sing that song, 02:17 and let's give that one a stamp right here, and so... 02:21 Okay.
