00:01 Welcome to Your Favorites By Request
00:02 with me, Tim Parton. 00:04 You've sent me your favorite songs 00:06 and I'm ready to play while you sing along. 00:10 And if you don't remember all the words, 00:12 don't worry, they're on the screen. 00:14 And now Your Favorites By Request. 00:19 Hi. 00:21 Welcome to Your Favorites By Request. 00:22 We would probably agree that 00:24 one of the most popular verses in the Bible is John 3:16, 00:27 "For God so loved the world 00:29 that He gave His only begotten Son, 00:31 that whosoever believes in Him should not perish 00:33 but have everlasting life." 00:35 God so loved, 00:37 what an amazing intimate and personal gift. 00:39 If you've risked showing and sharing love, 00:42 hopefully you know the feeling of having love 00:45 genuinely poured back to you. 00:46 As you would imagine 00:48 one of my favorite song themes is love. 00:50 There are thousands of secular love songs, 00:52 some of my favorites are from the '40s era. 00:55 But nothing beats a good old gospel love song 00:58 or a hymn to my savior. 00:59 So imagine how thrilled I was this week 01:01 to hear from Michigan and New Jersey 01:04 and out Washington State with requests for songs 01:07 that express the love of our precious savior. 01:09 And this one, for Allen in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, 01:13 a great old convention style song 01:15 called I Love My Savior Too. 01:23 Jesus, my heavenly King, loves me, I know 01:28 Praises to Him I sing, onward I go 01:33 Closely to Him I cling, blessings still flow 01:38 I love my Savior, too 01:43 I love my Savior 01:47 He loves me, too 01:52 I seek His favor 01:57 In everything I do 02:02 Walking with Him each day Lovelight doth shine 02:07 Doing His will always, never repine 02:11 Kneeling to Him I pray Thy will, not mine 02:16 I love my Savior, too 02:21 I love my Savior 02:26 He loves me too 02:31 I seek His favor 02:36 In everything I do 02:59 I love my Savior 03:04 He loves me too 03:09 I seek his favor 03:13 In everything I do 03:18 I seek my savior too 03:27 That's a lot of fun if you like that kind of thing. 03:29 Here's a great song, 03:31 Isn't the Love of JESUS Something Wonderful. 03:40 There will never be a sweeter story 03:45 Story of the Savior's love divine 03:51 Love that bro't Him from the realms of glory 03:57 Just to save a sinful soul like mine 04:03 Isn't the love of Jesus something wonderful 04:09 Wonderful, wonderful 04:14 O, isn't the love of Jesus something wonderful 04:20 Wonderful it is to me 04:26 Boundless as the universe around me 04:32 Reaching to the farthest soul away 04:37 Saving, keeping love it was that found me 04:43 That is why my heart can truly say 04:49 Isn't the love of Jesus something wonderful 04:55 Wonderful, wonderful 05:01 O, isn't the love of Jesus something wonderful 05:07 Wonderful it is to me 05:16 Wonderful it is to me 05:24 I like that song, wonderful love. 05:28 A lot of times, we wonder 05:29 if the lyrics of songs can really touch our life 05:32 like maybe even a sermon can, 05:34 and it's not really up for debate. 05:37 With just words, if it touches you, 05:39 it touches you, and you can't help it. 05:41 But the next song 05:42 is a song written by a very prolific writer 05:47 Charles Wesley wrote several hymns. 05:50 And one of the viewers sent me a book, 05:52 it's a companion to hymns 05:55 and it talks about And Can It Be, 05:58 and it's an example of how the lyrics can touch lives. 06:02 This says that, "Charles Wesley often told in his journal 06:05 how he made use of hymns in his evangelistic ministry. 06:10 The August 22nd, 1739 entry in Charles' Journal 06:14 tells how this hymn was used by the Holy Spirit 06:17 in the conviction and conversion 06:19 of a drunken servant of a Mr. Stewart. 06:25 This morning..." 06:26 The journal says, 06:28 "The work upon poor Robin appear to be God's work. 06:31 The words that made the first impression 06:33 were from the second stanza of And Can It Be 06:36 'Tis mercy all immense and free, 06:40 for oh my God it found out me.'" 06:43 Charles writes that this servant must... 06:47 "He now seems full of sorrow and joy 06:49 and astonishment and love." 06:52 So he's talking about the impact 06:53 that these lyrics had on the singer, 06:57 the listener of the words. 06:59 So this song is full of words, 07:01 I had to tell somebody has more words 07:03 in the Webster dictionary. 07:05 But they are great words, 07:06 and I hope that you can make sense of it. 07:08 If it's a favorite of yours, you will sing along. 07:12 The rest of you can just read along 07:14 and take in the meaning of these words. 07:24 And can it be that I should gain 07:30 An int'rest in the Savior's blood? 07:38 Died He for me 07:42 Who caused His pain? 07:46 For me, who Him to death pursued? 07:54 Amazing love! 07:57 How can it be 08:01 That Thou, my God 08:04 should die for me? 08:09 Amazing love! 08:12 How can it be 08:16 That Thou, my God 08:20 Should die for me? 09:05 Amazing love! 09:09 How can it be 09:13 That Thou, my God 09:16 Should die for me? 09:22 Long my imprisoned spirit lay 09:29 Fast bound in sin 09:32 And nature's night 09:37 Thine eye diffused a quickening ray 09:44 I woke, the dungeon flamed with light 09:51 My chains fell off, my heart was free 09:58 I rose, went forth, and followed Thee 10:07 No condemnation now I dread 10:14 Jesus and all in Him is mine 10:20 Alive in Him, my living Head 10:27 And clothed in righteousness divine 10:35 Bold I approach the eternal throne 10:41 And claim the crown, through Christ my own 10:48 Amazing love! 10:52 How can it be 10:56 That Thou, my God 10:59 Should die for me? 11:15 And we'll be right back. |
