00:01 Hi, and welcome back.
00:02 Many of you have been watching sometimes may feel sorry for me 00:06 for the inability that I have of forming sentences. 00:10 Somewhere in between my brain and my mouth, 00:13 the words get confused. 00:14 And I have a little bit of trouble sometimes 00:16 and I'm working on that. 00:17 But I have friends who are brilliant songwriters 00:21 that can form sentences and write songs, 00:24 the lyrics of which are heavenly in my opinion. 00:28 And I have one of my friends on line right now, Dave Clark. 00:32 He's written several songs many that you've probably sung. 00:35 I'm gonna talk to him. 00:37 Let's see if he can give me some tips on how to talk. 00:39 Dave, are you there? 00:41 I'm here, Tim. How are you doing, sir? 00:43 Hey, I'm doing wonderful. 00:44 It is so great to see you. 00:46 I was just telling my friends 00:47 what a great songwriter you are. 00:49 Let's start off with maybe 00:50 some of the songs that you have written 00:51 that they may recognize. 00:54 Well, it depends who you listen to, I guess. 00:57 I've been doing it a long, long time. 00:59 And we wrote a lot of the stuff 01:01 for groups like For Him and Phillips, Craig and Dean, 01:04 and songs like Crucified with Christ, 01:07 Mercy Came Running, 01:09 This Is How It Feels To Be Free, 01:11 why, I'm not sure. 01:13 The irony is that I grew up in southern gospel music. 01:16 And last year was the first southern gospel single 01:19 I ever had. 01:21 Really? 01:22 And it was just kind of ironic but... 01:23 Now, how long have you been writing? 01:25 I wanted to write, 01:27 I felt like God called me to write from the time 01:29 I was a young kid. 01:30 I lived in Michigan. 01:32 Back in that day, we didn't have computers. 01:34 There was no other way to do it except move to Nashville. 01:38 So that's what I did, two weeks after high school. 01:40 I set out with the ugliest car in Michigan. 01:43 And by the time I got there, 01:45 I had the ugliest car in Nashville. 01:48 Cool. 01:49 Well, you felt right at home. 01:51 I did. 01:52 So you are also a musician though. 01:54 You brought that too to the table. 01:58 I played, you know, through high school and stuff, 02:02 and ended up my first professional music job 02:05 was riding on the same bus 02:07 that you rode on with the Spear family. 02:09 And I stayed there five years. 02:10 And I love being with them, 02:14 they were my parents' favorite group as a kid, 02:16 and it was a dream come true. 02:19 But I remember, one night, 02:20 we were doing the camp meeting in Iowa, Nazarene camp meeting. 02:24 And they did a song called, 02:26 pour through me about vessels have gone dry. 02:28 And even though I'd written a song, 02:30 I knew they would sing it to me. 02:32 They also sang the verse that night 02:34 that never get sung to the old hymn, 02:36 I'd rather have Jesus. 02:37 And that night, they sang: 02:39 I'd rather have Jesus to men's applause 02:41 I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause 02:44 I'd rather have Jesus than worldwide fame 02:45 And I knew who they were singing to. 02:47 We were in an industry 02:49 where the only way to gauge our success 02:51 was by men's applause. 02:53 And I went that week and resigned to Brock 02:55 and I just said, "God called me to write. 02:57 As good as you've been to me, 02:58 I don't know how I'm going to do it 03:00 but I've got to write songs." 03:01 Sweet. 03:03 Well, that's an awesome step of faith to take. 03:04 And I know that there are a lot of singers 03:06 and song writers in Nashville 03:09 who are trying to find their place, 03:11 and so it's a good thing to follow the calling of God 03:14 and to just put it all in His hands and trust Him. 03:17 And He certainly has been good to you. 03:19 I've seen your name on several billboard charts 03:22 and that's really, really cool. 03:24 And it's an honor to call you friend 03:26 to the extent that I am your friend at all. 03:29 But I do admire your talent and your gift, 03:32 and I encourage you to keep doing what you do. 03:36 Now you're also affiliated with a publishing company. 03:40 Are you still doing that? 03:42 Yes. 03:43 I am creative director for a company called Lillenas, 03:46 and they do a lot of church music 03:49 and we were blessed to get to work 03:51 with the Tim Parton arrangement 03:52 that came out last year with Michael Speck. 03:54 Right, cool. 03:55 I love the church. 03:57 And sometimes you call it core music, 03:59 sometimes it's inspirational music. 04:01 All my life, I have had one market in mind 04:04 and that's to write for where I felt like the church was. 04:06 Nice. 04:08 I love the ability to edify the saints through lyrics 04:10 that glorify God. 04:12 Sure. 04:13 So let's do a song 04:15 that maybe there's a favorite song of yours. 04:17 Anything you've written you like? 04:20 Probably, a writer always likes the last one they wrote, 04:24 and the best one is the one they're about to write, so. 04:28 But you know what? 04:29 Probably one that people might know 04:30 the most would be Christmas song. 04:33 And it was recorded about 20 years ago, 04:36 and every year since it's been recorded by another artist 04:40 in this past Christmas, Rascal Flatts recorded it, 04:43 so that was kind of exciting. 04:44 Cool. And so give me the title. 04:47 The title is, A Strange Way to Save the World. 04:50 Strange Way, all right. 04:51 Let's do it. 05:08 I'm sure he must have been surprised 05:15 At where this road had taken him 05:20 Cause never in a million lives 05:26 Would he have dreamed of Bethlehem 05:33 And standing at the manger 05:36 He saw with his own eyes 05:40 The message from the angel come to life 05:46 And Joseph said "Why me 05:50 I'm just a simple man of trade 05:54 Why Him 05:56 With all the rulers in the world 06:02 Why here 06:05 Inside this stable filled with hay 06:09 Why her, she's just an ordinary girl 06:16 Now I'm not one to second guess 06:21 What angels have to say 06:25 But this is such a strange way to save the World" 06:38 To think of how it could have been 06:44 If Jesus had come as He deserved 06:49 There would have been no Bethlehem 06:55 No lowly shepherds at His birth 07:02 But Joseph knew the reason 07:05 Love had to reach so far 07:09 And as he held the Savior in his arms 07:15 He must have thought "Why me 07:20 I'm just a simple man of trade 07:24 Why Him 07:26 With all the rulers in the world 07:32 Why here inside this stable filled with hay 07:39 Why her 07:41 She's just an ordinary girl 07:47 Now I'm not one to second guess 07:52 What angels have to say 07:56 But this is such a strange way 08:07 To save the World" 08:23 What a great song! 08:25 Wonderful, wonderful lyrics. 08:27 Dave Clark, you are amazing man. 08:29 Thank you very much and God bless you. 08:32 And I look forward to hearing more songs from you. 08:35 Tim, thank you so much and best of luck for your show. 08:38 And God is blessing on your whole staff there. 08:40 Thank you so much. Thanks, brother. 08:41 God bless you. Bye. 08:43 Bye-bye. 08:44 For Chuck and Gayle in Montana, and for Ellen in Virginia, 08:48 here are two more modern gospel songs 08:50 with beautifully crafted lyrics 08:52 depicting the second coming of Jesus Christ, 08:55 We Shall Behold Him and The Midnight Cry. 10:09 We shall behold Him 10:17 Yes, we shall behold Him 10:25 Face to face 10:30 In all of His glory 10:39 We shall behold Him 10:47 Yes, we shall behold Him 10:56 Face to face 11:05 Our Savior and Lord 11:13 The angel will sound 11:20 The shout of His coming 11:27 And the sleeping shall rise 11:34 From there slumbering place 11:42 And those who remain 11:50 Shall be changed in a moment 11:58 And we shall behold him 12:06 Then face to face 12:13 Yes, we shall behold Him 12:23 We shall behold Him 12:30 Face to face 12:34 In all of His glory 12:42 We shall behold Him 12:51 We shall behold Him 12:59 Face to face 13:06 Our Savior and Lord 13:14 When Jesus steps out 13:20 On a cloud to call God's children 13:26 The dead in Christ shall rise 13:32 To meet Him in the air 13:38 And then those that remain 13:44 Will be quickly changed 13:51 At the midnight cry 13:56 When Jesus comes again 14:05 I look around me 14:08 And I see prophecies fulfilling 14:15 And the signs of the times 14:20 They're appearing everywhere 14:26 I can almost hear the Father 14:32 As He says, "Son, go get my children" 14:40 And at the midnight cry 14:44 The bride of Christ shall rise 14:51 When Jesus steps out 14:57 On a cloud to call God's children 15:03 The dead in Christ shall rise 15:10 To meet Him in the air 15:16 And then those that remain 15:23 Will be quickly changed 15:29 We shall behold Him 15:35 Our Savior and Lord 15:54 Amen. 15:56 I have such sweet memories of New Year's Eve services 15:59 as a child when we would form a circle 16:02 around the church sanctuary 16:03 and sing this chorus 16:05 reminding each other of that blessed hope 16:07 that He is coming soon. 16:16 He's coming soon 16:21 He's coming soon 16:24 With joy 16:26 We welcome His returning 16:32 It may be morn 16:35 It may be night or noon 16:39 We know He's coming soon 16:46 Sing that with me. 16:48 He's coming soon He's coming soon 16:56 With joy we welcome His returning 17:04 It may be morn 17:08 It may be night or noon 17:13 We know He's coming soon 17:23 And if you believe that, 17:24 I think it's all the more important 17:26 to keep a song in your heart 17:28 because Jesus keeps us singing. 17:31 Jesus, Jesus, Jesus 17:35 Sweetest name I know 17:39 Fills my every longing 17:43 Keeps me singing as I go 17:54 Send me a song Then you sing along with me 18:05 You Favorites by Request La la la 18:11 La la la |
