00:01 Hi. Welcome back.
00:02 In music, there are four parts, soprano, tenor, 00:06 actually soprano, alto, tenor, bass. 00:09 And I think I know at least one person 00:11 of each of those categories. 00:13 But today, I have a special friend 00:15 whose name is Jeff Pearls, 00:16 he's the bass singer, the low voice. 00:19 And low voices used to scare me, 00:21 but I grew up and got over it. 00:23 I want to talk to Jeff and see what he thinks about music. 00:27 And let's see if he's on the line, 00:28 all right? 00:29 Jeff Pearls. 00:31 Hey, Tim, how are you today? Hey, I'm doing great. 00:33 And you're looking great. Good to see you. 00:35 Good to see you, too. It's been a while. 00:37 Yeah, it has. Now you live in Nashville area? 00:41 Yes. Nashville, Tennessee. Great. 00:42 And you are the bass singer 00:44 for the King's Heralds, correct? 00:46 Yes, that's true. Awesome. 00:48 And you travel nationwide, worldwide. 00:51 Worldwide. Awesome. 00:52 And how long has there been a group 00:54 and how long have you been with them? 00:56 Well, the group started in 1927. 00:58 So we're starting our 90th year continuous ministry this year, 01:02 celebrating 90 years. 01:04 And I have been with the group starting my 13th year. 01:07 Thirteenth. 01:08 But you're older than 13, so you've been probably 01:10 with some other groups before that? 01:12 That is correct. Yeah, yes. 01:13 I was with the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet 01:16 before King's Heralds, 01:18 before that I was with the Palmetto State Quartet. 01:19 Neat. 01:21 So this is what you do for a living. 01:23 This is it. 01:24 And now I will let the people know 01:26 that as we're taping this, it's in the morning. 01:29 And I know that bass singers love mornings 01:32 because you get that natural resonance 01:35 that only sleep can provide, 01:38 but sometimes sleep deprivation also allows it, 01:41 I don't know how that works. 01:42 That's true, there's a fine line there. 01:45 Well, that's cool. 01:47 Now you have a history of being of ministry, 01:50 your father was a minister, wasn't he? 01:51 Yes, he was. 01:52 He had his own music ministry for many years. 01:55 And we sang together as a family 01:57 while I was growing up. 01:58 So music has always been a part of my life. 02:02 I can't remember a time 02:03 when I wasn't singing or wanting to sing. 02:06 And I can't remember a time 02:07 when I wasn't around music in some way, shape, or form. 02:10 Neat. Well, in fact, 02:12 that kind of leads into this next question, 02:14 what does music really mean to you? 02:18 That's a great question. 02:20 Music is something 02:23 that has always been there in my life, 02:25 as I just stated. 02:27 And music can do wonderful things. 02:31 Music can lift you up when you're feeling down, 02:34 it can make you happy when you're feeling sad. 02:36 It can even make you 02:38 forget about your problems for a while. 02:39 Oh, that's good. 02:41 That's very cool. Yeah. 02:42 And that's one of the things 02:44 that we as the King's Heralds tried to do 02:48 with every audience that we sing to, 02:50 we recognize that each audience is unique, 02:52 and that each member of our audience 02:54 is dealing with something because if you're... 02:58 you know, as I say, 02:59 if you're breathing you are dealing with something. 03:03 And so our job is to just try to bring them 03:07 into the presence of the Lord 03:08 and just make them forget about their problems 03:11 and introduce them to The One that can solve their problems. 03:14 Absolutely. 03:15 That's one of the things I love about gospel music, 03:17 Christian music. Yes. 03:19 Because I can listen to the radio 03:20 and I can listen to secular music. 03:22 And I can... it can take me places. 03:25 But Christian music is the only thing 03:27 that can take me and keep me 03:29 where I need to be and where it's going to... 03:32 I can take it away with me and feel much better 03:35 and it's life-changing for sure. 03:37 That's awesome. Absolutely. 03:38 And you know what, Tim, just a little bit, 03:42 I didn't fully appreciate gospel music 03:46 until I met the Lord 03:48 and had a relationship with Him. 03:49 Yeah. 03:51 Because it's all about Him. 03:53 And if you don't know the one that you're singing about, 03:56 then gospel music will be just another art form to you. 04:00 You're right. You're right. 04:01 And I honestly, 04:03 we both know people who it's a job to them. 04:07 Yes. 04:08 But that's hopefully one day those words will sink in 04:11 and they'll understand 04:13 and make that commitment to Christ for sure. 04:15 And that's what... 04:16 that's what ministry is about, you know, we don't judge them, 04:20 we just, we hope that it connects one day for sure. 04:23 Well, since we both love music 04:26 and since this is a program about music, 04:29 do you have a song that you like? 04:30 A favorite song maybe? 04:32 You know, I think one of the... 04:34 my favorite songs that combines so beautifully 04:35 what we've been talking about 04:37 is the old song, what a friend we have in Jesus. 04:39 Oh, yeah, we love that song. Very special song, yes. 04:42 Can you tell me in any particular reason 04:44 why it's special or just for that fact. 04:46 You know, Tim, 04:47 we all go through periods in our life 04:49 where, you know, maybe we were raised in church, 04:53 maybe we weren't walking, 04:56 there was a phase of our life 04:57 when we weren't walking with the Lord 04:59 as closely as we knew we should. 05:01 But in the back of my mind, 05:04 always this particular song would come to mind 05:07 and it would always remind me 05:08 no matter how far away I got from the Lord 05:11 that He wasn't mad at me. 05:13 He was there with His arms open wide saying, "Come on home". 05:16 Absolutely. 05:18 And, you know, 05:19 it's just one of those songs 05:20 that just has a very special place in my life 05:23 because of some of the things 05:24 that I have experienced and been through 05:26 and God has been there for me 05:28 and has been a true friend as He is to all of us. 05:31 Yeah. That is wonderful. 05:32 That's beautiful, Jeff. Thank you for sharing that. 05:35 And let's sing this. 05:36 Sing along, at home, all right? 05:47 What a friend we have 05:51 In Jesus 05:56 All our sins and grieves to bear 06:04 What a privilege 06:09 To carry 06:13 Everything to God in prayer 06:21 O what peace 06:24 We often forfeit 06:30 O what needless pain we bear 06:38 All because we do not carry 06:48 Everything to God in prayer 06:55 Have we trials and temptations? 07:04 Is there trouble anywhere? 07:12 We should never be 07:16 Discouraged 07:21 Take it to the Lord in prayer 07:29 Can we find a friend 07:33 So faithful 07:38 Who will all our sorrows share? 07:46 Jesus knows 07:49 our every weakness 07:55 Take it to the Lord in prayer 08:06 That was to me... Great job, Jim. 08:08 Oh, man, great job yourself. 08:09 Thank you very much. I love you, brother. 08:11 Thank you. Love you too, brother. 08:13 And I look forward 08:14 to seeing you down the road, all right? 08:15 Yes, sir. Absolutely. Be safe. 08:17 Have a great day. Keep the faith, brother. 08:18 Thanks. Bye-bye. You too. 08:20 Here's a request for Bernice in Maine. 08:21 We don't hear from Maine very often, 08:22 but here's a wonderful song 08:24 that simply just brags on Jesus. 08:26 He's the lily of the valley. 08:38 I have found a friend in Jesus 08:41 He's everything to me 08:43 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 08:48 The Lily of the Valley in Him alone I see 08:53 All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole 08:58 In sorrow He's my comfort 09:00 In trouble He's my stay 09:03 He tells me every care on Him to roll 09:07 He's the Lily of the Valley 09:10 The Bright and Morning Star 09:12 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 09:45 Hallelujah 09:46 He's the Lily of the Valley 09:49 The Bright and Morning Star 09:51 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 09:56 He will never, never leave me 09:59 Nor yet forsake me here 10:01 While I live by faith and do His blessed will 10:06 A wall of fire about me 10:09 I've nothing now to fear 10:11 From His manna He my hungry soul shall fill 10:16 Then sweeping up to glory 10:19 To see His blessed face 10:21 Where rivers of delight shall ever roll 10:26 He's the Lily of the Valley 10:29 The Bright and Morning Star 10:31 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 10:36 He's the fairest 10:38 of ten thousand to my soul 10:50 Once I was straying 10:56 In sin's dark valley 11:02 No hope within 11:05 Could I see 11:13 They searched through heaven 11:19 And found a Savior 11:25 To save a poor lost soul 11:32 Like me 11:38 O what a Savior 11:45 O hallelujah 11:51 His heart was broken 11:57 On Calvary 12:03 His hands were nail scarred 12:09 His side was riven 12:15 He gave His life-blood 12:21 For even me 12:28 Death's chilly water 12:33 I'll soon be crossing 12:39 His hand will lead me 12:46 Safe o'er 12:51 That I'll join the chorus 12:57 In that bright city 13:03 And sing up there 13:06 Forever 13:10 And evermore 13:15 O what a Savior 13:21 O hallelujah 13:27 His heart was broken 13:33 On Calvary 13:39 His hands were nail scarred 13:45 His side was riven 13:51 He gave His life-blood 13:57 For even me 14:17 Send me your song 14:18 Then you sing along with me 14:27 Your Favorites 14:28 By Request La la la 14:33 La la la |
