00:01 Welcome back to Your Favorites By Request.
00:03 I enjoy singing by myself 00:05 because I alone know what I'm gonna do next. 00:08 And sometimes I even surprise myself. 00:10 But there's other than singing about myself, 00:13 my second best favorite thing to do is singing with somebody. 00:17 I have a great friend today. 00:19 Yvonne Lewis-Shelton has joined me. 00:21 Yvonne, wonderful to have you here. 00:23 Oh, it's so great to be here. Thank you for inviting me. 00:25 My pleasure. 00:27 We get a lot of requests for me to sing with people. 00:30 And so I thought you'd be the perfect candidate... 00:33 Ah, and you didn't get anybody else, right? 00:35 No. 00:37 My secret has been found out. 00:38 No, no, I'm honored. 00:40 You are... 00:42 Yvonne is the most delightful person. 00:44 She's just genuine, 00:46 just she's always on we say but it's not fake. 00:50 So we're just gonna have a great time singing, 00:53 continue singing along with us, all right? 00:55 And I'm just gonna ask a random question. 00:56 Okay. 00:58 Do you know anything about gardening? 01:00 Okay. 01:02 So up until about 10 years ago, 01:06 every plant I had would die. 01:08 I mean I just wasn't good. 01:09 But now I have some plants and they're living, 01:13 and I talk to them, and I water them, 01:16 and so do I know anything? 01:18 Not really, not scientifically, but I love my little plants. 01:22 I love that. 01:23 So you know, I like the idea of gardening 01:26 even when you have an apartment 01:28 and you can do that terrace thing. 01:30 I think that's so cool. Yeah. 01:32 I like that, potting, pots everywhere on my patio. 01:37 When I was a kid, 01:39 we live next door to Mr. and Mrs. Rayleigh. 01:42 He had the most beautiful garden, 01:45 and I would go over actually and help him in his garden. 01:49 I wasn't helping him. 01:51 I was being a hindrance. 01:52 But he was a gracious older gentleman 01:54 and then we had a little gooseberry bush in our backyard 01:59 and you know what a gooseberry is? 02:01 No. 02:02 They look like little grapes kind of, 02:04 little smaller than that. 02:05 But anyhow, I don't know why we're talking about this 02:07 other than the fact that I'm trying to segue 02:10 into a song about the garden 02:12 which really is really the wrong direction. 02:15 But there I go again. 02:17 I do want to say that this is for a precious friend, 02:20 Cathleen, out in Sunizona, Arizona 02:22 who requested this song. 02:24 I think we all know this. 02:40 I come to the garden alone 02:48 While the dew is still on the roses 02:56 And the voice I hear 03:00 Falling on my ear 03:04 The Son of God 03:08 Discloses 03:13 And He walks with me 03:18 And He talks with me 03:23 And He tells me I am His own 03:30 And the joy we share 03:35 As we tarry there 03:40 None other has ever known 03:48 Now you sing. 04:17 And He walks with me 04:22 And He talks with me 04:25 And He tells me I am His own 04:33 And the joy we share 04:38 As we tarry there 04:43 None other has ever known 04:54 I'd stay in the garden with Him 04:59 'Tho the night around me be falling 05:06 But He bids me go 05:10 Through the voice of woe 05:13 His voice to me 05:17 Is calling 05:23 And He walks with me 05:28 And He talks with me 05:33 And He tells me 05:36 I am His own 05:41 And the joy we share 05:46 As we tarry there 05:53 None other has ever known 06:10 Precious. Precious. Oh, it is. 06:12 That song is so special to me 06:14 because I sang it with my grandmother and my dad, 06:17 and it's just really special. 06:19 That is precious. 06:22 There's a precious scripture in Isaiah 53:4-6. 06:30 It says, "Surely He has borne our griefs, 06:32 and carried our sorrows. 06:35 Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 06:40 But He was wounded for our transgressions, 06:43 that's why He was bruised for our iniquities." 06:47 Upon Him was, "The chastisement that made us whole, 06:51 and with His stripes we are healed. 06:55 All we like sheep have gone astray. 06:56 We have turned, every one, to his own way. 06:59 And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." 07:04 There is a song I got a request for, 07:08 a hymn that I am not really familiar with 07:10 but I think that you might know a little better than I. 07:13 And the text of this somber hymn 07:16 compels us to gaze at the cross 07:19 until the depth of God's love overwhelms us. 07:24 This is such a pretty tune. 07:40 O sacred Head 07:43 Now wounded 07:48 With grief and shame 07:52 Weighed down 07:57 Now scornfully 08:01 Surrounded with thorns 08:08 Thine only crown 08:15 O sacred Head 08:20 What glory 08:24 What bliss till now 08:29 Was Thine! 08:32 Yet, though despised 08:37 And gory 08:43 I joy to call 08:47 Thee mine 09:18 Lo, here I fall 09:23 My Savior! 09:28 'Tis I deserve 09:32 Thy place 09:36 Look on me with 09:41 Thy favor 09:48 Vouchsafe to me 09:52 Thy grace 09:58 What language 10:01 Shall I borrow 10:06 To thank Thee 10:10 Dearest Friend 10:15 For in this 10:19 Thy dying sorrow 10:23 Thy pity without end? 10:31 O make me Thine forever! 10:39 And should I fainting be 10:47 Lord, let me never, never 10:55 Outlive my love 10:59 To Thee 11:05 Wow. That's rich. Wow. 11:08 It is sort of beautiful melody too. 11:10 Yeah. Really, it's kind of haunting. 11:12 It very paints the picture, you see it. 11:16 Yes. That's wonderful. 11:18 Yes. 11:19 So that's the great thing about music. 11:21 It can be used to paint the picture. 11:22 I was just telling you about the concert 11:24 that I went to 11:25 where they had done some experimental music 11:28 and well, I wasn't sure if they were really serious, 11:31 but they were very serious. 11:33 But it was just, but it did paint a picture 11:37 and kind of a... 11:39 I was concerned, 11:41 maybe what picture it was painting 11:42 but all that to say, music has such a way to... 11:44 It can move us and speak to us. Yes. 11:47 And that's the thing... It creates emotions. 11:48 I mean it just actually can move you to tears, 11:52 or it can make you laugh, 11:54 or I mean it actually can change your emotions. 11:56 Yeah. It's amazing. 11:58 Yeah. What a gift. 12:00 And as are these songs, these great hymns. 12:03 And this is a song that I want to send out to Paula 12:06 who interestingly enough, 12:08 she says she sings along on this program 12:12 while doing jigsaw puzzles. 12:13 Okay. 12:14 Now I've heard of like walking and chewing gum 12:17 at the same time. 12:18 Which I can't even do, 12:19 but she can sing and do jigsaw puzzles, 12:22 so that's pretty cool. 12:23 So if you can do it, I don't know... 12:25 Maybe it relaxes her. It might. It might. 12:27 Yeah. I don't... It could. 12:30 So anyway, I want to sing, 12:32 this is a great Fanny Crosby song. 12:37 You know it well.
