00:01 Welcome back to your Favorites by Request.
00:03 Thanks again for sending in your requests.
00:06 I have a dear friend with me today, John Lomacang,
00:09 he is a wonderful singer, wonderful pastor,
00:12 and a wonderful friend, he really is,
00:14 because as long as we've got music in common,
00:16 you're automatically in with me, all right?
00:18 Praise the Lord.
00:20 So it didn't take much, did it?
00:21 Good to be here with you, Tim.
00:22 I am proud to have you here.
00:24 And, you know,
00:26 music to me is such a consolation,
00:32 and it's a privilege
00:34 to be able to sing about the Lord.
00:35 That's right.
00:36 And there's something else that is a sweet consolation
00:39 that I kind of want to sing about and that is prayer.
00:42 That's right.
00:43 And that's...
00:45 This is a great little song
00:47 that I think, you know, what I'm thinking,
00:50 I'll just let you sing it, okay?
00:51 Okay.
01:05 How long has it been
01:10 Since you talked with the Lord
01:15 And told him your heart's
01:20 Hidden secrets
01:24 How long since you prayed
01:29 How long since you stayed
01:33 On your knees
01:36 Till the light shone through
01:42 How long has it been
01:47 Since your mind felt at ease
01:52 How long since your heart
01:57 Knew no burden
02:01 Can you call him your friend
02:06 How long has it been
02:11 Since you knew
02:13 That he cared
02:16 For you
02:21 How long has it been
02:26 Since you knelt by your bed
02:31 And prayed to the Lord
02:35 Up in heaven
02:39 How long since you knew
02:44 That he'd answer you
02:48 And would keep you
02:51 The long night through
02:58 How long has it been
03:03 Since you woke with the dawn
03:08 And felt that this day
03:13 Is worth living
03:18 Can you call him your friend
03:23 How long has it been
03:28 Since you knew
03:31 That he cared for you
03:42 And here's a beautiful Ralph Carmichael song,
03:46 A Quiet Place.
03:48 I'll play and then you can sing, all right?
04:24 There is a quiet place
04:31 Far from the rapid pace
04:37 Where God can soothe
04:41 My troubled
04:46 Mind
04:49 Sheltered by tree and flow'r
04:55 There in my quiet hour
05:01 With Him my cares
05:06 Are left
05:09 Behind
05:14 Whether a garden small
05:20 Or on a mountain tall
05:25 New strength and courage
05:31 There I find
05:38 Then from this quiet place
05:44 I go prepared to face
05:50 A new day with love
05:56 For all mankind
06:09 That is such a gorgeous song.
06:12 I love that. What a picture it paint.
06:13 I mean, you talk about a lyric going so well with the melody,
06:18 that's masterpiece.
06:20 You know, when I hear it, I think of a guy standing,
06:22 I'm from New York.
06:23 Okay, I think of a guy standing at the window
06:25 on a busy fall day where he can just hear
06:29 the rumble of the underground train,
06:31 the horns of the cabs,
06:33 the clicking of people's heels
06:35 as they're rushing off to work, and he's saying to himself,
06:37 I really don't want to go out there.
06:40 And he turns around
06:41 and there he just sees his Bible.
06:44 And he slides over to it and sits down,
06:47 and as he opens the Word,
06:49 it's like the street sounds fade away...
06:51 Everything fades away.
06:52 In that quiet place. That is beautiful.
06:53 And then after that he says,
06:55 now I can go prepare to face
06:57 a new day with love for all mankind.
06:59 Yeah, you're exactly right.
07:01 Maybe I should produce that video.
07:02 Maybe you should.
07:03 That is interesting wherever you're from
07:05 that's kind of the picture you would,
07:07 you know, you would put yourself in
07:09 whatever scenario that you're...
07:11 The busy city of New York.
07:13 Yeah, you could do a busy city, or you could even do a farm,
07:16 you know, where all the animals are groaning, you know,
07:18 loud and you just want to get somewhere away from it all.
07:22 You know, there are times when I...
07:26 I think, I'm sure in everybody's life,
07:28 where we do things we wish we wouldn't have done,
07:30 said things we wish we wouldn't have said.
07:33 And again there's an opportunity
07:35 that we have to get away
07:38 and say "God, forgive me."
07:43 And regroup and start over.
07:46 He loves to allow us the privilege
07:48 of pushing the reset button.
07:50 And this song talks about that,
07:51 it's an old Albert Brumley song, he says...
07:54 Ev'ry time I do a deed
07:58 I shouldn't do
08:01 Every time I say a word
08:05 I shouldn't say
08:09 Let me tell you what I do
08:14 And it brings a blessing too
08:18 I just steal away somewhere
08:23 And pray
08:28 I just steal away
08:33 I just steal away
08:39 And I ask the blessed Lord
08:44 To lead the way
08:49 I just steal away
08:54 I just steal away
09:00 I just steal away somewhere
09:06 And pray
09:12 Christ, the Savior, always hears
09:16 And answers prayer
09:20 And He gives me
09:22 Many blessings ev'ry day
09:28 So when I have tried and failed
09:33 I've failed to pass the test
09:37 I just steal away somewhere
09:42 And pray
09:48 I just steal away
09:55 I just steal away
10:01 And I ask my blessed Lord
10:06 To lead the way
10:12 I just steal away
10:19 I just steal away
10:25 I just steal away
10:30 Somewhere
10:32 And pray
10:42 It's good.
10:43 That's a new one to me too, but the message is perfect.
10:47 Because sometimes you got to get away,
10:49 I've seen people in the workplace
10:52 because I was, as I said, raised in New York City,
10:54 but I lived in, you know, California too,
10:57 seems like most of the places I lived were hustle and bustle.
10:59 And even though we live here in this little Thompsonville,
11:02 West Frankfort like at the border,
11:04 there is still hustle and bustle.
11:06 You think, wow, the trees, little cattle here and there,
11:09 a lot of green grass and just broad land,
11:13 but sometimes you just have to steal away.
11:15 Absolutely.
11:16 You've to shut the world down because you know
11:17 we live in a constant,
11:19 it's like a blender or sometimes a vortex.
11:22 It's like I could see that little raspberry,
11:24 my wife bought one of those blenders
11:26 where she makes me these nice smoothies now
11:28 and I really appreciate it.
11:30 And getting a lot more natural,
11:32 but I could see that little berry
11:34 just falling in there before you know
11:35 it's mixed up with everything,
11:36 you can't tell where the berry begins
11:38 and where it ends.
11:39 That's how life is sometimes.
11:40 Yeah, you're exactly right.
11:42 You can't tell where your day begins
11:43 and somebody else's day and I need this right away,
11:45 and I get a text and I get a phone call,
11:46 I got an email and it's all merging together.
11:48 Right.
11:49 And sometimes you have to say, what happened to Tim?
11:52 He just had to steal away and pray.
11:53 Right.
11:55 And then God puts it all...
11:56 God puts it all back into perspective.
11:58 And it's vital that we do that.
11:59 I mean, we must realize the importance of doing that.
12:02 That's right.
12:03 One of these days,
12:04 it won't be necessary for us to do that.
12:06 That's true.
12:09 Struggle and strive will be through,
12:11 and busyness will be through, and will have real purpose,
12:15 but until then we're just going to keep on
12:19 finding opportunities to steal away and pray.
12:22 There's a song called Until Then,
12:24 we might as well sing it, all right?
12:25 Let's sing.
12:41 My heart can sing
12:45 When I pause to remember
12:50 A heartache here
12:54 Is but a stepping stone
12:59 Along a trail that's winding
13:05 Always upward
13:09 This troubled world
13:12 Is not my final home
13:19 But until then my heart
13:25 Will go on singing
13:30 Until then with joy
13:35 I'll carry on
13:39 Until the day my eyes
13:45 Behold the city
13:49 Until the day
13:53 God calls me home
13:59 I'm gonna let the people at home sing that.
14:31 Now sing along.
14:33 But until then my heart
14:38 Will go on singing
14:44 Until then with joy
14:48 I'll carry on
14:53 Until the day my eyes
14:58 Behold King Jesus
15:03 Until the day
15:05 Until the day
15:07 God calls me home
15:14 And one more verse.
15:15 This weary world
15:18 With all its toil and struggle
15:22 May take its toll
15:25 Of misery and strife
15:29 The soul of man
15:32 Is like a waiting falcon
15:37 When it's released
15:39 It's destined for the skies
15:45 But until then my heart
15:50 Will go on singing
15:53 We gonna keep on singing
15:56 Until then with joy
16:01 I'll carry on
16:05 Until the day my eyes
16:11 Behold the city
16:16 Until the day
16:20 God calls me
16:24 Home
16:27 Calls me home
16:32 Amen. Amen.
16:34 You know that day is coming, that day is coming,
16:36 that's the beautiful thing about this song,
16:38 that day is coming and it's until
16:40 and you look at all the challenges of life,
16:42 until, and so that until is not prerequisite.
16:46 Is that the right word?
16:47 That until is not a word to sidetracked us,
16:50 but that until is a word to keep our hope going.
16:53 Right, absolutely.
16:54 Like that wax candle.
16:55 Preparation word, anxiety word,
16:57 it's indicating that there's something coming up.
16:59 That's right.
17:00 My good friend who's now resting in Jesus,
17:02 Pastor CD Brooks said,
17:03 "Our message is an evacuation message."
17:05 Right.
17:07 And this is an evacuation song, keep on going until.
17:09 Praise God with that too.
17:11 Exactly. Right, yeah.
17:12 I think we have time for another song
17:14 and so let's do this.
17:16 I think this is old Thomas Dorsey tune,
17:19 Precious Lord Take My Hand,
17:21 and talking about leading us on until that day, so.
17:43 Precious Lord, take my hand
17:47 Lead me on, let me stand
17:52 I am tired, I am weak
17:56 I am worn
18:00 Through the storm
18:03 Through the night
18:05 Lead me on to the light
18:10 Take my hand, precious Lord
18:14 Lead me home
18:17 Tim, hit it.
18:19 When my way grows drear
18:23 Precious Lord linger near
18:28 When my light
18:30 Is almost gone
18:37 Hold my hand lest I fall
18:41 Precious Lord, hear my call
18:46 Take my hand, precious Lord
18:50 Lead me home
18:55 When the darkness appears
19:00 And the night draws near
19:05 And the day
19:07 Is past and gone
19:14 At the river I stand
19:18 Guide my feet, hold my hand
19:23 Take my hand, precious Lord
19:28 Lead me home
19:32 Just take my hand
19:35 Precious Lord and lead me home
19:46 John, thank you for being my friend.
19:48 Thank you for singing along.
19:49 Be sure and email me at tim.parton@3abn.org.
